Perfume Review: Élisire Jasmin Paradis (Franck Salzwedel/ Alberto Morillas) 2015+ One Ticket to Paradise Draw

My love of rich, opulent fragrances factors mightily in to my love of Winter, and I seldom miss an opportunity to swaddle myself in ambers, incenses, and attars once the temperatures start dropping. But I also find myself reaching for florals; it could be that I miss the flowers in my gardens, or maybe it’s an antidote to the heavier fragrances I douse myself in, and this winter, the floral perfume I’m craving most is Jasmin Paradis, by Elisire.

Jasmin Paradis was released along with four  other  fragrances (our reviews of  Ambre Nomade, Eau Papaguena and my reviews of Elixir Absolu and Poudre Desir; I just love this line).

Creative Director Franck Salzwedel  launched his own perfume house, Elisire in 2015. Mr. Salzwedel is no stranger to perfumery (the French painter is based in New York is the former creative director for Acqua di Gio and Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb). He developed Jasmin Paradis with Master Perfumer Alberto Morillas of Firmenich, who is  one of  my favorite perfumers. Jasmine is one of my favorite notes; my Fate was sealed. It was love at first jasmine-laden waft.

The description of Jasmin Paradis on the Élisire website references a Mediterranean garden under a clear blue sky; I’ve never had the pleasure of visiting any part of the Mediterranean, but the first spray transported me instantly to Southern California, where I lived most of my adult life.

OVERGROWTH by photographer Parker Fitzgerald and floral designer Riley Messina

Jasmin Paradis opens with a burst of orange blossom and bergamot, as playful and exuberant as sunshine sparkling on the ocean. It’s very easy to imagine yourself in paradise, surrounded by such heady and intoxicating scents. Grapefruit and petigrain act as a scented anchor of sorts, enhancing the exuberance while keeping it from becoming overpowering.

But of course this is a paradise built around jasmine, and our leading lady is not about to let anyone else steal her glory. I thought perhaps the unabashedly bright citrus opening might be hard for the jasmine to live up to, but I should have known better. The creators of Jasmin Paradis didn’t reach the top of their field by chance. The heart of this fragrance is jasmine set like a flawless diamond, with nothing but her myriad facets to dazzle with.

You get the first hint of jasmine as a shimmer in the air around you. It smells like jasmine dancing in the wind, as though you were passing by a vine in full bloom. A richer jasmine note blooms further on in the development of Jasmine Paradis, deepening the fragrance and rounding it out, stopping just short of becoming indolic. I caught a hint of astringency at this stage, which adds elegance and has a grounding effect. As the jasmine deepens, the incense base of Jasmin Paradis warms up to greet it.

Having shined so beautifully in her solo, the jasmine is now content to share the stage. What was once bright and shining slowly begins to glow and smolder, a little more mysterious as she melds in to frankincense, but no less beautiful.

OVERGROWTH by photographer Parker Fitzgerald and floral designer Riley Messina

I have dozens of jasmine-centric perfumes; jasmine is the note most likely to lead me into temptation. I thought I’d finally reached saturation point, but it looks like I’ll have to find a way make a little more room on the shelves.

NOTES:  Neroli Bigarade, Sicilian Bergamot, Orange Blossom and Pink Grapefruit, developing into a radiant bouquet of Jasmin Sambac, Jasmin Petals, Paradisone and Mate Absolute, Incense, Ambrox, Olibanum and Musks

DISCLOSURE:  My review is based on a sample gratefully received from Mr. Franck Salzwedel, of Élisire. Sillage is discreet as befits an extrait and longevity is overnight.

Art Direction: Michelyn Camen~ In addition to photos from Franck, I used images from OVERGROWTH A photographic collaboration between Riley Messina and Parker Fitzgerald exploring humanity, beauty and nature. • I love that Tammy’s review evokes for me a meditteranean garden full of Orange Blossom trees and jasmine under a blue sky! I am a big fan of scenst that incorporate the fresh and bright scent of citrus with florals, and this scent sounds amazing. Like Tammy I have never been to the Meditteranean but this scents like this one help me to fell like I there through scent and imagination, I would love to go to Capri or Bora Bora and until I can get to those places I will continue to live vicarously through the scents I wear to transport me there! I live in the USA and would love to win Jasmine Paradis! I also liked Elisire on facebook under CJ Williams. USA

  • I am also in love with Jasmine. It’s in so many fragrances, but I never get bored of it. It truly is the grand dame of perfumery! Jasmin Paradis particularly appeals to me because of the interesting mate accord and the incense note, which is one of my favourites. All of the Élisire perfumes sound incredible, so I’d love to get my hands on the sample set. Lately I’ve been dreaming of Fiji. The January blues have started to set it, I guess. I live in Canada, thank you.

  • Tammy’s review reminded me of smelling jasmine on the streets everywhere in Southern California, and from time to time in Seattle when the season is right. Jasmine is one of my favorite florals, so I would love to win the bottle of Jasmin Paradis. Right now, with all the cold weather we’ve been having, anywhere warm sounds like an exotic paradise! I’m in the US.

  • Jasmine, mate, and incense sound so interesting together! I was born near the beach but now live in the mountains and really miss the sight and sound of the coast. I often use the sound of the ocean to fall asleep when I have insomnia. I’d be happy in just about any tropical beach location right about now, surrounded as I am by snow! I live in the USA and would love to win Jasmine Paradis! I also liked Elisire on facebook. Thank you for the draw!

  • I also love jasmine perfumes, Tammy. Living part of the year in Asia, I have a lot of jasmine to smell, especially at dusk when the petals really begin to release their scent. This perfume sounds like it could be a recreation of this effect. This whole line sounds great, I went back and read the other reviews which I somehow missed. Please put me in the draw for a bottle of Jamine Paradis. I also liked their FB page. I am in the US. Thanks for the lovely description and the draw.

What a fascinating review about Jasmin Paradise. Jasmine is our National Flower & is a very famous flower, has great respect used in many ways like in tea, garland, perfumes and its oil for health benefits. Jasmine can easily blend with any note in perfumery. It has a strong yet sweet, pleasing and romantic fragrance, which is very common in flowers which bloom only at night.
Thanks for the draw & opportunity to participate in the draw. Liked Elisire Page on facebook.

  • This review almost reads like a poem! “My Fate was sealed. It was love at first jasmine-laden waft.” I love Jasmine. The paradise I would like to visit right now, would be Hawaii. I would love to win a bottle of Jasmin Paradis! I live in the US.

  • I love jasmine, the very essence of spring. The combination with mate and grapefruit is very unique and intriguing.
I have never tries Elisire fragrances and I would love to. Thank you for the draw and greetings from Norway.
I liked Elisire on Facebook. The paradise I would love to visit is Jamaica.

  • “A Mediterranean garden under a clear blue sky” sounds like a perfect paradise to visit, perhaps not now in the winter, but it is the best place to go in June.
Jasmine and incense together sound so surprizing, I am curious about the smell!
Thanks for the draw. I live in the EU.

  • I love the smell of jasmine which happens every spring where I live. I think the review in combination with the photographs creates an ambiance where Jasmin Paradis would abound. The paradise I would like to visit right now would be Australia. Thanks for the draw. I live in the USA.

  • acquiredtaste says:

The incense in Jasmin Paradis appeals to me. I live in Malaysia and would love to visit Italy.

  • fazalcheema says:

The Mediterranean region continues to inspire perfumes and some of them like Acqua di Gio are actually ones I enjoy. Franck working on the Acqua di Gio project and it seems natural that Élisire Jasmin Paradis has Mediterranean inspiration, too. The paradise I would like to visit is Hawaii. I am in the US.

  • cardinalmind says:

I currently live in the US and would love to win the 50ml bottle of Jasmin Paradis.
There’s something in the jasmine notes that transports me back to my home country, Philippines. I can clearly see a hot day but you’re in a garden surrounded by flowers. Very relaxing

  • Tammy could be a scent twin, I too look forward to winter and dousing myself in rich, opulent incense and ambers, and jasmine is my favorite flower in perfumery (rose being a given.) A shimmering jasmine with frankincense sounds divine and I would love a bottle, I’m in the US Midwest. Since we aren’t having winter this year, just day after day of bleak wet fog and dreariness, I would love to go to ANY tropical paradise, sign me up. Thanks for the dreamy review and lovely draw.

  • Jasmine! I love jasmine in all its facets–sultry and indolic or green and fresh. Tammy says this has incense and I definitely need an incense/jasmine perfume that I would wear in Tahiti, my tropical paradise. I would love a bottle of Jasmin Paradis and I live in the USA.

  • I love nearly every note listed in this fragrance, and I could use some cheerfulness and sunshine to get me through this grey Seattle winter. I’ve still never been to Hawaii and it’s not too long of a flight for me, so that would be my tropical pick. I’m in the US and my choice would be the bottle of Jasmin Paradis. Thanks!

  • GrandmaGaga says:

I love the image of jasmine and incense in this perfume. The paradise I would love to visit is somewhere I have always dreamed of going…Morocco! So exotic, both the sights and smells! I am in the US and would love the chance to win a bottle of Jasmin Paradis. Thank you for the giveaway.

  • I love jasmine and I love incense, but… separately. I would never thought they can be combined together and I am dying to try the result!

A paradise I want to visit now is Sri Lanka. Thank you for the draw. I liked Elisire Fb page.

  • I like the way this makes me want to try a jasmine scent, even though the only one I’ve ever had really is a Chinese soap! I LOVE that the review mentions the astringency of the scent at one point because I really enjoy that in my perfume [and also in food lol]. I like that place where things make you pause and contemplate them instead of always being ‘likeable’ or easy to enjoy.

Also I like the poetic langauge of the flowers/plant, it makes me think of Shelley, haha. I’m a big poetry person.

I’m in the USA, and I liked Elisire on facebook. I love the description of Ambre nomade!! I would want to try the five sample set. The Eau Papaguena also sounds so interesting.

Also, I love that photo of the woman under flowers, like the Lady of Shalott. So beautiful! They have real skill.

  • Great review. It’s very intriguing combination of notes with mate. Jasmin, neroli and orange blossom turn it very feminine with touches of amber. Very unexpected smell probably that turns it very unique. Compositions that has incense or olibanum always keeps me very excited to try.
Thank you for the draw. I live in the USA.

  • I loved Tammy’s descriptions of jasmine taking me to more of a Pacific exotic location rather than the usual association with the mysterious East…a light hearted whimsical approach I thought and if I look up and reach I might catch the lingering words in the air above me 🙂 It made me want to go back to my beloved Fiji where all of these compositions would feel at home. I am in NZ. Thanks or Vinaka as said in Fiji for a generous draw

  • cinnamon tree says:

I am intrigued about Elisire fragrances for quite some time and now, when my expectations have built up, I am almost afraid they won’t be as beautiful as I think, but it’s definitely time to try them. Jasmine Paradis and Eau Papaguena sound wonderful.

I live in Europe, but at the moment I would like to be in Hawaii 🙂

  • concertslover says:

Initially looking at the bottle I thought this was a feminine perfume. Even the notes lean towards the floral with jasmine being so present with a touch of musk. I’m definitely ready to try this floral scent since spring already feels here (although now I have jinxed it)
    From USA

Like to try the bottle of Jasmin Paradis.

  • The fact that it reminded Tammy of southern Calif. intrigued me. I grew up there and am curious if it would trigger a memory for me. I typically prefer gourmande fragrance, but would love to win the Jasmine Paradis. Maybe it would bring a touch of spring into this dreary winter. I live in the U.S. Thanks for the draw.

  • Wonderful review! If I could I would very like to visit to the Hawaii islands. These perfumes are all sounds very nicely. Jasmin Paradis sounds very interesting and beautiful. Thank you for the draw. I live in Europe.

  • Miss Almond says:

I’d like to visit any paradise that is “built around jasmine”, the most subtle, powerful and feminine flower possible. I’m still looking for my perfect jasmine fragrance and the sample set which includes Jasmin Paradis would be a great and pleasant surprise for me. I live in the EU, thanks for the review and the draw.

  • doveskylark says:

I’m curious about the different stages of jasmine, especially the astringent one.
My idea of a paradise would be Kerala in southern India.
    I liked Élisire on Facebook.
I’d love to win the bottle of Jasmine Paradis.
    I live in the USA.

  • I love the image of jasmine dancing in the wind. Jasmin Paradis sounds lovely and I would love to try it, as well as other Elisire fragrances. I like Elisire on Facebook. I live in Europe, thanks!

  • I have probably never tried a jasmine-centric fragrance. But I am attracted to smell jasmine flowers anytime I pass them. great to know that this brand is so young but cooperating with famous perfumers. I liked Elisire on FB as Ľubica K. I am in EU. I would like to be at Bermuda just now.

  • The scent of jasmine reminds me of my grandma’s perfumes and probably this is what I love most about this flower. Jasmine and mate notes sound unusual and refreshing. They must go really well together!
I liked Elisire on facebook. Thank you for the draw. EU.

  • I love the review and the photos. “The heart of this fragrance is jasmine set like a flawless diamond, with nothing but her myriad facets to dazzle with.” – this sounds so exciting, so beautiful! I am still looking for a jasmine perfume which would smell like a fresh bouquet of flowers. I want it to be 100% romantic. Is Jasmin Paradis going to be The One?

Many thanks for so lovely draw. I live in Europe.

  • Chiming in late to say how much I enjoyed reading about Jasmin Paradis. I also am tempted often by jasmine fragrances. The pink jasmine vine which blooms in late winter in southern California is the end-all-be-all of my jasmine dreams. I hope one day I will find a perfume that captures its perfect beauty. Here in the southwest US we had a sunny day (at last), but I would still love to visit a tropical beach someday. Fiji is on my bucket list. 🙂
