HOUSE OF MATRIARCH 15 Minutes of Fame Times Square Reuter's Billboard

If you are a reader of ÇaFleureBon, chances are you are already familiar with  Christi Meshell, the Seattle Natural Perfumer who creates luxe botanical perfumes under her award winning artisan brand House Of Matriarch. If you live, work or have visited New York City, you can't miss the interactive billboard that crawls up the side of The Reuter's Building at 3 Times Square.  On any given day you will see advertisements for iconic brands such as Nike, Victoria Secrets, Honda, and  Revlon but never before has an Indie American  perfume company captured the attention of 89 million jaded New Yorkers, who thought that they had seen everything. Natural Perfumery rose to new heights Thursday January 4, 2016 at 3:49 P.M., when "per-fumum" (the Latin word for perfume meaning through smoke) literally curled around the 22 stories of the one of the  most highly visible icons of New York City that welcomes 1.5 million people a day.

  • Knowing how hard Christie has worked for this moment, she rightly deserves this honor. Single handedly Christie has elevated Natural Perfumery to new height!
If selected I would like to try CoCo Blanc. Thank you for such a generous draw.

  • My big congratulations to Christi and House of Matriarch. I’ve been following everything on Christi’s developing of the House. New bottles look nice, videos that are on House of Matriarch’s YouTube channel, too. The newest advertising in NYC deserves full attention. It is nice to see such a wonderful success. Needless to say, perfumes are spectacular, wondrous. I haven’t tried the newest perfumes. They must be an essence of the same beauty I know from Christi’s “early works”. Trillium is my choice. Thank you. I am in the EU, Croatia.

  • I love that natural perfumery is so widely available nowadays and that there are growing numbers natural perfumes available at the perfume stores and webshops For many years I’m using natural skin care and natural perfumes. The last few years I’m also using niche perfumes, which are not solely natural, but still the natural perfumes are my favorites. So I’m happy with the wide availability. I would love to win Sex Magic. Thank you Christi for this awesome draw and congratulations on selling at Nordstrom. I live in The Netherlands, EU.

  • I’m really happy for the brand and that natural perfumery is getting a bit of much needed spotlight! Synthetics are great sure, but nothing beats the depth and complexity of natural ingredients. But I must say that I’m also always a bit afraid when a small indie house starts developing into more of a niche house, that the house will become more conformist. I’ve seen it happen with other houses and it always saddens me. I hope Christi will stay strong and keep her nonconformist attitude!

If I win I would like a bottle of Forbidden please, it sounds like just my thing! I’m in Finland, EU.

  • How exciting for House of Matriarch to gain such exposure! 🙂 I live in Australia and if I win I’d love to try Orca – it sounds magnificent. I think the Times Square advertisement is really important – it reminds people (in a time of increasingly synthetic fragrance formulations) that natural perfumes are still alive and vibrant and have so much to offer the wearer. Some of my favourite perfumes and perfumers work with naturals only and they have a life-force and complexity that isn’t matched by synthetics. It’s great that the Times Square ad campaign for House of Matriarch is helping to spread the word about natural perfumery!

  • What a generous draw – thank you Christi and Cafleurebon! While it’s wonderful to see a natural perfume house featured so prominently, it also makes me feel a little like a secret is being shared with the world ;). There’s such a range of misconceptions about natural perfumery. Yes, it can can be softer, more variable and harder to predict how it will work with your skin, but the sheer richness and depth of a well-blended natural is pure alchemical joy :). As someone who is getting increasingly frustrated with some of the nitro-powered synthetics out there, I love to see naturals getting the recognition they deserve. Way to go Christi, and I wish you nothing but success 🙂
As for which of these tempts me most, I have to throw my vote in for Orca. Real ambergris adds such unique notes and dimensions, and I would be very excited to own a bottle of this one. It’s usually out of my price range, and despite lots of sampling I’ve yet to find a sea scent that works for me. Perhaps this will be my mermaid moment :))
Finally, I’m in Canada, home of many beautiful Orcas :). Please include me in the draw!

  • Congratulations Christi on growing your business, your billboard in Times Square, and getting into Nordstrom’s! These are no small feats and I have been following you since Blackbird. If I won I would love either Coco Blanc or Sex Magic and I live in the US. Thanks so much for this draw and it’s an amazing accomplishment for Christi! 🙂

  • This is Fantastic! Congratulations Christi and House of Matriarch on the Times Square billboard and Nordstrom. I think it’s great that there is a possibility to push natural perfumey back into mainstream and give people the option to experience it. I would love to have Coco Blanc. I am in the US (Boston) . Thanks for the draw!

  • I think think is SO SO marvelous!!! Cheers and applause from me!! I’m thrilled with the rise of both natural and artisanal!!

I like many HOM frags, but if I was fortunate to win this draw, Devotion would be my pick as it’s chock full of my fave notes and I’ve not tried it – people I know with similar taste to me love it (and others – it’s sure hard to choose!). In the US

  • Congrats on a spectacular and well-deserved achievement (and very stylish ad!:)! I think it’s about time that natural perfume brands catch up with natural cosmetic ones and get more recognition. It’s a trend that is here to stay for good (after all, what’s better than being close to nature?:). House of Matriarch is a very well-crafted luxury line and perfect to introduce more people to natural perfumery!
My choice would be Coco Blanc. I live in Canada. Thanks for the draw!

  • This is an exciting time for natural perfumery and independent small perfume lines in general, especially in the US, which is where I live. Beauty should be available to all so that the opportunity for the life enhancements of exquisite quality perfumes can blow the minds of those who have never had the experience. What better place than Nordstrom, where the perfume SAs will actually make you a sample, and Times Square. Great scent for all! Very classy billboard, btw. Congratulations Christi & House of Matriarch! I would love to win a bottle of Trillium, I’m so ready for spring. Thanks Christi and CaFleurebon for the opportunity.

  • I think this is terrific and it’s about time. I always look for new perfumes among naturals and niche first and have found some beautiful fragrances. Then, if I hear good things, I will branch out. To be blunt, there is too much out there that calls itself perfume and st nothing but smelly, synthetic, swill. -Sorry, I tend to get worked up about the subject.- I am happy that natural perfumery, specifically House of Matriarch. has been able to broaden it’s appeal.

    I would love Orca.
    Live in the US.

  • I am super excited about the outlook on natural perfumery and small perfume brands in general! I think the development of the online perfume community and the internet in general has played a huge role in helping spread the word. I would love to win Orca, and I am in the US. Thank you!

  • It is great that wonderful perfumers like Christi Meshell are elevating natural perfumes, and more people are discovering these amazing scents. if I were to win one of her beautiful scents it would be devotion. thanks for the draw cafleurebon and Christi Meshel.
    I am from America

  • Natural perfume is coming on strong these days. It just smells “different” many times than traditional formulas. I would like Black No. 1 if I win this. USA

  • I think this is really just the perfect time for natural perfumery to blossom in the main stream with all of the focus lately on the dichotomies between the science/gmo and organic/local vibes. A lot of people are looking back to more minimalist roots – living with and on the land, and I think people with those mindsets in particular can appreciate natural perfumery.

Being from Washington State originally, I love to see how much the Pacific Northwest has influenced House of Matriach’s creations. So many of these scents look amazing, I had a really difficult time deciding which I might like if I were lucky enough to win. I think I’d like to try Orca. Thanks for this great draw, I’m in the US.

  • How far HOM has come! And how amazing to see natural perfume rising right alongside. Black No. 1 is intoxicating, and I would be in 7th heaven with a bottle of my own. Thanks for the draw (US).

  • Natural perfumery has made quantum leaps since the 80’s and it is thrilling to see Christi take HOM Panther quantum leap forward! I applaud also Nordstrom who has welcomed several natural lines over the past years. A congrats and a thank you, for widening the visibility of natural perfumers and for the incredible journey HOM has made! Whenever a natural perfumer is successful, I find it widens the appeal and curiosity of other toward natural perfumery. Undoubtedly there are people unaware of natural perfumers or who might believe it is patchouli for hippies- a lingering misconception which sure the Reuter’s display will help to dissipate.

I would choose Madrona, as an homage to the Pacific Northwest, HOM’s and my beautiful home.

  • I believe this has to be the first time a Natural Perfume brand has been featured on Times Square. Nordstrom is not so generous in providing shelf space and House of Matriarch must have shown tremendous potential to be approached by Nordstrom and even be blessed with Times Square marketing. I checked the website for the new packaging and it is really amazing, reminds of that Islamic architectural design elements.

I believe Natural Perfumery will continue to grow because first of all, there is a newfound focus on nature, esp. given the damage to the nature as a result of modern lifestyle. Second, mainstream perfumery will continue to replace natural essences with synthetic elements which will provide natural perfumers with a great marketing positioning that they still focus on natural essences which are deeper and more complex.

For this draw, my choice will be Black No. 1. thanks a lot for the generous draw and congratulations Christi on your Nordstrom debut. It is quite an achievement. I am in the US.

  • I love House of Matriarch and followed their relaunch and wish them all the best to get the widespread recognition they deserve. Personally I prefer natural perfumery, because it can touch me deeper than most other.
I would choose Orca, it is a wonderful subtle Amber scent.
Thanks for the draw and I am in Germany.

  • Firstly Congrats to christi – totally amazing and well deserved, a coup in many ways. I think the perfume world has been shown many more facets of natural perfumery these last few years and it’s a series of events, almost cosmic in its approach to recognition. It’s like an idea that gets planted in one thing, then appears in another and suddenly it’s everywhere. Lol. We don’t want to lose the mystery here girls 🙂 but you get my flow I’m sure. Christ go for the big heights and take the world by storm! I’m an Orca lover and I’d love to experience the creation in perfume. I’m in New Zealand.

  • Wow!!! Congratulations Christi!! House Of Matriarch is one of the best indie perfume houses I have no qualms blind purchasing and ordering to Paris. She is a wonderful person and I am sure there are even more exciting things to come…
I live in Europe and would love to win Orca..
Thank you and I wish I were in New York to cheer for Christi Meshell

  • marcopietro says:

Congratulations Christi for the new media exposure. I’m happy if more people approaching the natural perfumery.
Black no.1 Would be my choice.
    I live in Italy.
    Thanks!

  • Wow! This is an incredibly beautiful review. And I love the videos so much. I always prefer the natural perfumes, those are so fabulous, like the nature itself. If i would as lucky to win, my choice would be Coco Blanc. Thank you for the chance.

  • The House of Matriarch has fragrances I really like. Natural perfume is here to stay and it’s pages like this that’s gotten the word out. I would pick Coco Blanc for the draw. 🙂 USA

  • Awesome to see HOM get the exposure it well deserves. Using natural products to create great fragrances are the epitome of a great perfumer. I wish all perfumers were certified natural perfumers and did not have to resort to using synthetics so much these days.

If I win I would like to choose Orca. Thanks and Mahalo for the draw from Hawaii. Congrats Again and continued success HOM!

  • How exciting to get this kind of exposure!! Christi is amazing and her creations excellent! I have tried quite a few and I must say Coco Blanc is my favorite!

  • Elizabeth T says:

What a moment! I wish I could have seen it in person.

House of Matriarch perfumes are so well done, and I love that they are all-natural. Some synthetics don’t do well with my nose (they stick out like a sore thumb) so I love love love all natural perfumes. My favorite is Bohemian Black. I would love to win Trillium if it were my lucky day!

I’m in the USA. Thank you for this generous draw. So glad to see all-natural perfumes showing their face in Times Square!

  • Congratulations Christi and HOM. Maybe natural fragrances are growing so much because natural elements are disappearing and so its good having snapshots of smells..especially ones that evoke memoires. Im interested in all the fragrances but perhaps Orca, Cocoa Blanc or Sex Magic. Any would be great to try. Thanks for chance:)

  • The high-end market for “organic” and natural goods is still growing rapidly, so I am not surprised that natural perfumery is also experiencing increasing levels of exposure and success recently. I’ve never tried any perfume by House of Matriarch, but I really love the beautiful presentation of the products… that bottle looks glorious splashed across a huge billboard in Times Square! Very covetable. Congrats to Christi on the continued success. It’s clearly a labor of love. I’d pick Coco Blanc if I was lucky enough to be the winner. I’m in the US, thanks for the draw!

  • I live in Brooklyn, NY and would’ve loved to witness the Times Square billboard! How exciting for the House of Matriarch and natural/independent niche perfumery, congratulations Christi! Not a fan of cold NY winters and looking forward to spring already so although I’d love to own so many of her scents, if I was to win this generous draw I think I would choose Trillium. Thank you for the chance!

  • How cool is this….I would have loved to seen for my own eye. Amazing how fast times flies and how much House of Maitriarch has grown. Naturals are exciting and seem to have come a long way in quality long lasting fragrances. HOM has created some of the most creative fragrances and is always exciting to watch grow. Congrats. Coco Blanc would be a beauty for me. In the USA. Thanks a million.

  • Diana Devlin says:

Oh my, these scents sound breathtaking! I am just starting to collect natural fragrances/perfumes. I think in our world of mass marketing, people are craving unique perfumes. Especially those that are more natural.
I was just in the city tonight but not near Times Square. I would have loved to see this billboard!

If I win, I would choose either Black No. 1 or Coco Blanc.

  • Congratulations on bringing natural perfumery to NYC Times Square What a sight that must have been!! I would like to win Orca or Coco Blanc I live in Canada and would love to experience house of matriarch

  • The rise in the popularity of natural perfumery comes at a time when, in the mainstream (and the not-even-all-that-mainstream) market there’s a never-ending release of flankers, reiterations of the same-old same-old stuff, and derivative ‘innovations’ – enough to frustrate even the most dedicated ‘fume head. So I think people seek out originality and creativity, which is frequently found in natural perfumery; it also appeals to peoples’ desire to know what they’re putting into – and onto – themselves. It also makes me feel that little bit closer to the natural world, as silly as that may sound (I live in the city and at times feel sort of disconnected, I guess is the best way to put it, from the natural environment, if that makes sense).

Were I lucky enough to win, I’d love to try Forbidden – sounds like an intriguing take on tuberose. Thanks for such a generous draw! (I’m in Australia).

  • Wow, a billboard iin Times Square…that’s a big deal! Congratulations on this, as well as breaking the “department store barrier” that has existed for natural perfumers. I would love to know more about how that was achieved. I have never tried any of these scents, but from the description my choice would be Trillum. Thank you for the draw. USA

  • bunchofpants says:

I only recently discovered natural perfumery myself, and it’s really exciting to see the talents of fantastic natural perfumers being widely recognized and supported.

I would love to win Orca. I’m in USA.

  • Before meeting the ÇaFleureBon site I confess I did not care much for the natural perfume and I was very skeptic about the durability , longevity and projection. After reading many different articles here I got interested by natural perfumes and today I’m really looking for this kind of perfume and now I believe that natural perfumery is a good trend .
I would like to win Orca.
    I’m in USA.

  • I love natural perfumes. I am very intrigued by the complexity of these fragrances. I would love to see how these transformed and blended with my own body chemistry.

  • Congtatulations for the beautiful and talented Christi Meshell, from my favorite Seattle, for this amazing success!!! For me the House of Matriarch interactive billboard in NY is a huge step forward for the entire niche industry 🙂 I would love to smell Coco Blanc in Poland where I live 😉

  • Ive been exploring natural perfumery for a couple of years now..
This brand stands for the biggest part of My natural collection! Its great to see the journey of this brand 🙂 new bottles are gorgeus
Im supercurious about both Orca and Albatross, one if those would be My choice.. Thanks for a great draw and congratulations to Christi Meshell for her great success!

  • girasole638 says:

How exciting for HoM and Christi and what a great step forward for natural perfumery! I’d love to wear Coco Blanc! (I’m in the US)

  • I’ve always been a fan of natural perfumery, so I’m really happy it has broadened its appeal. My choice has to be Coco Blanc! I’ve wanted to smell it for the longest time. I’m in Canada and thank you so much for the draw!

  • I like this “grand opening” of natural perfumery to a wider marketplace and I congratulate this bold attempt that Christi Meshell did (an excellent marketing move the advertisement in NY city, time square, Reuters’ billboard) congratulations and all the best cause you deserve it. House of Matriarch is one of my beloved perfume Houses and in case I win I would love to experience Coco Blanc.
Thank you for the generous draw! I am a registered reader living in EU, Greece.

  • At first I was leaning toward Orca, but I think I would choose Devotion. They both sound so cozy! 🙂 Before I explored on a whim, I had never heard of natural perfumery. I did not know there were more options beyond the giant brands in fragrance departments. Hopefully this advertisement allows more people find out about niche perfumery and join the hobby. I live in the US.

  • I love the pure and realistic qualities of natural perfumes. I’m a big fan of them. I’ve been really enjoying the increase in houses that make such fragrances. As others have mentioned, I would really like Coco Blanc.

I’m a Canadian reader and thanks so much for this draw.

  • I was excited to note that House of Matriarch is now available at Nordstrom, and I’ll have to make a little trip south to sniff all of them. I may be too late for the drawing, but if not, I’d choose Orca. I’m in the US.

  • Congratulations Christi! Love the billboard and also your partnership with Nordstrom! Thank you for taking natural perfumery into the stratosphere!

Often I find that natural perfumes tend to be viewed as “hippy” or “green” or “indie” without the luxury and chic attributes that are generously given to perfumes that contain synthetic fragrances. I love that House of Matriarch transcends what we normally view as a natural fragrance house. HofM is natural, yet luxurious, elegant, and high-end, yet has a sense of mystery and magic! I love it! This is all a testimonial to Christi’s hard work and dedication to the craft.

I love the name House of Matriarch. The name conjures up visions of strong and beautiful women throughout history – their mystery, their magic, their feminine allure and strength.

I wish Christi lots of success!

I read all the reviews of HofM’s fragrances on CaFleureBon and read each description on the website. What a difficult choice, but I am really drawn towards TRILLIUM. What a gorgeous name and the description sounds wonderful!

Thank you for the generous draw. I live in the USA.

  • I would love to win Coco Blanc which has long been one of my favorite scents from the House of Matriarch. I think natural perfumery has come a long way since I’ve been following the industry because they hold their own alongside synthetic products as far as longevity and complexity go and many people want to avoid non-natural products all else being equal. I am in the U.S. Thank you for the draw!

  • Congrats to House of Matriarch! I have not tried any fragrances from the house, but I’ve heard about a lot of them. I’ve learned more and more about natural perfumes as my fragrance journey has gone on. I do own a few, which I like very much. I’m definitely a supporter. Coco Blanc would be my pick! It sounds amazing.

I’m international (Toronto). Thanks for the draw!

  • Matriarc is one of the best natural perfumery house that I’ve expirience. I love natural perfumes and I am very intrigued by the complexity of these fragrances. Congrats to House of Matriarch for an amazing collection!
    I would choose Coco Blanc.
    USA
