If you are a fan of  Parfumerie Generale fragrances click your mouse. The man behind the brand, Pierre Guillaume is one of the most talented perfumers working today and is becoming an icon of modern perfumery.  His skill is such that any fragrance he creates, whether gourmand, aquatic or animalic is always well blended, artistic and unconventional.  Pierre is an independent industry.  He owns Huitieme Art Parfums, Phaedon and introduced the Collection Crosiere, a reinvention of aquatics at Esxence in March 2015.   A we have reported he is expanding the Collection Croisière with three new scents including Metal Hurlant  which debuted at  Pitti Fragranze 2015.

According to Pierre he was inspired by a “A motorcycle trip across the USA on the legendary Route 66. With Métal Hurlant (“Howling Metal”), ride a Harley at full throttle on an asphalt ribbon. The smell of glinting chromes, a fresh paint job, a steel bodywork and rubber tires blend with gasoline and leather, whipped by the hot Arizona wind… Born to be wild”

Imagine a chrome decorated leather jacket, Ray Ban Aviators and denim shorts. Metal Hurlant starts in black and silver chrome.  There’s  no hint of sweetness, yet the fragrance is smooth and comfortable.

There is enough bad boy in the composition that will attract women and men to you like crazy. So spray with care, because you will be noticed.

Leather can be sueded, animalic , floral, even  have spicy, or  gourmand nuances in perfumery.  Metal Hurlant is an animalic leather fragrance for those who like daring yet wearable scents. The emphasis is on wearable. I have to state that, I’m wearing Metal Hurlant in the middle of summer without any trouble.

It was so hot these past few  weeks where I live in Turkey,  that wearing a fragrance like Metal Hurlant should feel like a heavy leather jacket in 100 degree heat and feel oppressive, but it isn’t  at all.  For many, leather is usually associated with masculine, (think of Marlon Brando, Harrison Ford, James Dean, Richard Roundtree as Shaft), then there is an unexpected turn in the road.  A really sexy girl pulls up.

As you head towards to middle phase, plastic floral like lilac joins the ride. On skin, Metal Hurlant has something even more to offer… The sexy girl transforms into Ghost Rider riding his motorcycle through the flames!

The base notes evolve into a near skin scent, velvet and musky. Metal Hurlant is a perfect example that it is the artistry of the perfumer not just the ingredients.  Pierre Guillaume’s latest creation has pretty common notes but it is so brilliantly blended that the effect is totally distinctive and original. The longevity and sillage is moderate and can be worn all day to work as well as  to parties.

I stopped taking marketing copy seriously years ago, they often mislead. Pierre Guillaume is not one to deceive. He has too much integrity.   Metal Hurlant is indeed like “riding a Harley at full throttle on an asphalt ribbon. The smell of glinting chromes, a fresh paint job, a steel bodywork and rubber tires blend with gasoline and leather”; finally truth in advertising.

Disclosure: I received Metal Hurlant for review; opinions my own

  • Sounds good, and I would like to win this to try out with some of my biker mates! I will report back! Lol
I live in the UK. Favourite leather wearing actor is Charlie Hunnam, SOA fame.
Unfortunately I have not had the chance to try any of Pierre Guillaume’s sent yet! Cheers!

  • Very interesting review. I would like to win this perfume, because I like the leather scented perfumes. My favorite leather wearing movie stars are Arnold Schwarzenegger, Nicolas Cage, Gaspard Ulliel, and Gong Li. I have never tried any fragrance from Pierre Guillaume. I live in Europe. I’m a registered reader. Thank you for the draw!

  • I totally would not have seen the floral element in this! As far as a leather-wearing celebrity, I cannot say… I don’t follow celebrities too much, or what they wear. Terrible, I know! US resident, and thankful for the draw.

  • What a generous contribution! I am a huge huge huge fan of Pierre Guillaume’s work. This leather fragrance sound like one not to be missed. Like Kim, I don’t follow celebrities, but I do like the images chosen for this article. Thank you for the draw!! USA.

  • I would like to have this because it promises to be a wearable leather. It’s hard to beat Marlon Brando in “The Wild One”. 🙂 I have not tried any of this line yet but have been dying to since the release of those first four earlier in the year. US

  • if Pierre’s marketing copy delivers exactly what the product is, it is awesome..i wish all marketing is like this..instead of authentic statements, too much focus is on creative descriptions that may impress but also confuse..this leather and harley davidson-inspired creation is something i would def. love to try . thanks for the draw. I am in the US

  • BostonScentGuy says:

What a generous draw! I am taken in by the phrase “daring yet wearable,” and the promise that somewhat “normal” ingredients are arranged in an elegant fashion. I’m a big fan of Guillaume, particularly the hay-ey, woody goodness of Bois Blonds. For a leather-wearing star, I have to stick with the classic choice of James Dean. I’m in the US.

  • I’ve been looking forward to the release of Metal Hurlant ever since I heard about it (here!) because I’d rather smell asphalt and gas and rubber and leather than almost anything else I can think of.

When considering leather-clad celebs my mind goes first to Rob Halford of Judas Priest fame in his biker drag.

My favorite Pierre Guillaume so far is Cuir d’Iris.

    U.S.

  • I’m always excited when a new Pierre Guillaume scent is launched so Metal Hurlant is no different, especially since it promises to be a wearable leather! My favorite actress in leather is Kate Beckinsale and favorite PG perfume would still have to be Iris Taizo, one of the first round of scents I bought from the line. I’m in Taiwan =)

  • mouse clicking because I love Coze, corps et armed and querelle. Anything by Pierre Guillaume is always worth sniffing. I like leather perfumes and this sounds great especially because you can wear it in the heat.Amelia Earhart wore leather well and Tom Cruise in Top Gun
    I live in U.S.

  • I love leather fragrances and I have a special love affair with Tabac Blond. Cuir Cannage has surprised me, too and is now one of my go-tos in my wardrobe. Metal Hurlant does sound like something I’d love.
Alannah Myles in her Black Velvet video first came to my mind. I think she was smoking hot in this clip and really setting leather in the right context and mood.
My absolute favorite from Pierre Guillaume is Bois de Copaiba. I think it is a superb take on Guerlain’s beauty L’Heure Bleue.
    I’m from Austria.

  • I’m not a biker, but I suffer the charm of many movie immortal icons with motorcycle like a distinctive element of their virility.
In addition “Metal Hurlant” was one of the French comics magazines most revolutionary of the 80s, it was with Italian “Cannibale” the best on the market.
To read this review is a dip in my memories of young protester and Berkan’s prose is as always very charming. If I think of a movie star dressed in leather, the first image that comes to me is Halle Barry in cat woman, Sex nth power!
    I live in Italy.
    Thanks!

  • I would love to try Metal Hurlant because it sounds like something right up my alley and Pierre Guillaume’s perfumes are so interesting and beautiful. I really loved Aomassai.

Charlize Theron is my favorite leather wearing actress,
Thanks so much for this wonderful chance! USA

  • The motorcycle imagery has hooked me! I definitely would love to try Metal Hurlant. Chrissie Hynde is one of my favorite leather-wearing artists–the photo of her in the red leather jacket on the cover of the Pretenders first album is iconic. Alas, I’m such a noob that I don’t yet know any Pierre Guillaume fragrances! I’m in USA.

  • If there is gasoline, this fragrance has great possibilites. I tried to think of a famous female in black leather. I just don’t think there is a woman that doesn’t look good in black leather. I have smelled the Entre ciel et mer. usa

  • If it smells like a Harley and a leather jacket, Metal Hurlan is definitely worth trying and enjoying. Favorite leather movie star:James Dean and singer: Joan Jett.

Favorite fragrance from Pierre Guillaume is Praline De Santal.

I am a registered reader from the EU.

Thank you very much! Wish you all the best!

  • Sounds wonderful! I’m always up for a leather and gasoline perfume. My first thought when leather-clad actor was mentioned was of David Bowie in Labyrinth. I’m in the US and Liqueur Charnelle is my favorite PG scent.

  • Leather is one of the notes I love most in perfumes, therefore Metal Hurlant is right up my alley. The leather and the idea of a bike and total freedom is exactly what I would need right now as I pass through very stressful times.
My favourite fragrance from Pierre is L’Ombre Fauve and my favourite leather wearing singer is young Axl Rose.

I am from EU. Thannks for the draw!

  • “Metal Hurlant is an animalic leather fragrance for those who like daring yet wearable scents.”

I love leather scents and this one sounds fantastic! I honest can’t think of my favorite leather wearing star. My fav scent from Pierre would have to be Iris Oriental. I’m in Canada and thank you for the draw

  • Looking forward to another wearable leather, so far only Equipage fits the bill for me. Favorite actress wearing leather would be Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman. My favorite(s) from the PG line would be Indochine, Ilang Ivohibe, and Tubereuse Couture. I live in Singapore. Thanks for the draw

  • This sounds great – I don’t currently have any leather in my (fragrant) wardrobe. I like the smell of burnt rubber…smoke….asphalt. Dry smells. I was very fortunate to be able to sample the perfumer’s ENTRE CIEL ET MER, and just died for it. My favorite leather wearing movie star would have to be Olivia Newton-John at the end of “GREASE!” I’m in NYC in the USA, and thanks for the chance xxoo

  • Metal Hurlant I wonder how a masculine smell like leather interacts with flowery notes and musky ones and make a girl sexy and ghost rider at the same time. Favorite artist in leather actress Michelle Pfeiffer in Catwoman’s leather bodysuit, simply amazing.

  • Forgot to mention I have not experienced up till now any PG perfume creations. I am a registered reader in EU and I thank you both for the lovely review and generous draw as well.

  • I think Madonna would be my favorite leather wearing celebrity. I love leather scents and I have two of Mr. Guillaume’s scents and really enjoy most of his work. Poudre de Riz is probably my favorite. A leather fragrance by PG is not to be missed! I’m in the UAE and I wish he would get a distributor here!

  • I’d love to try Metal Hurlant because I’m a leather lover, but most of my leather perfumes are rather polite (more suede than leather… and definitely no asphalt!) – it would be great to try something a little more daring. I think my favorite leather-wearing star would be Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones – nerdy but adventurous. I haven’t had the chance to try anything from Pierre Guillaume yet, but I’d love to change that! I’m in the US

  • I would love for my husband to try this. His Harley is his baby, so maybe this would be the perfect scent. My favorite perfume with a touch of leather is by PG, … I’m going to mangle the name, but is it La Nuit de Oisseau (you can see I never took French), a gorgeous perfume. I can’t improve on the Steve McQueen image. I am in the USA. Thank you.

  • Valentine Girl says:

My favorite leather wearing celebrities have to be Joey Ramone & the rest of the Ramones. What can I say, but I am still a punk rocker at heart; Gabba gabba hey! But I have been intrigued by this scent since Michelyn first alluded to it in her Esxence postings — I love the smell of leather and was drawn in by the reoccurring theme of the wearability of it, even with soaring temperatures. Aromas of gasoline, leather, rubber yet evolving to a musky skin scent actually reminds me more of Henry Winkler as the Fonz from Happy Days, working on his bike in the garage & always having girls hanging off him. I really like Cologne Grand Siècle and agree that masterful blending can take common notes and make them extraordinary. USA resident.

  • Sounds like a fantastic fragrance. I’m okay with leather scents. I’ve had some great ones, but also some bad as well. But I like the notes in this one. It feels like something that would work great with my skin. I can’t really think of leather wearing celebs, but I do love people that wear leather pants. I’ve also never tried a scent from Pierre. I’m in Canada

  • The best time for wearing leather perfumes is yet to come!!! I mean autumn in her full misty, rainy and melancholic swing! I am a fan of leather-centered fragrances, but I cannot wear them all year round. I am curious to find what makes Metal Hurlant that much wearable.
Johny Depp and Jon Bon Jovi. Need to say more?
However, it is really hard for me to chose just one favorite fragrance made by Pierre Guillaume. Felanilla, Intrigant Patchouli and Drama Nuui are so far my top 3.
I am in Bulgaria (EU). Thank you for the draw!

  • This sounds like a great fall and winter signature scent. I love authentic leather fragrances. They just make me feel so bold and sophisticated. I also love the bottle designs as well. Very sleek and elegant. My fav leathery celeb would have to be Catwoman! Now she knows how to work leather! I haven’t tried any of Pierre’s fragrances yet, but I definitely will in the future

    I’m international. In Canada
