On the 15th March this year, Atelier Cologne will be celebrating it's fifth anniversary. The perfume house is renowned for its devotion to cologne but more fragrances, using an unprecedented 15-20 percent concentration of essential oils. Creative Directors Sylvie Ganter and Christophe Cervasel have created a new olfactive family, the 'Cologne Absolue'. To mark this anniversary, Atelier Cologne are launching Pomélo Paradis, composed by Ralf Schwieger. As with every previous fragrance, this latest offering arrives with a descriptive vignette, something to whet the olfactory appetite and set the scene… “Was he a fool to drive all night just for a chance to see her? Perhaps it was adrenaline and the lack of sleep, but as he pictured moments they had been together, the word destiny stuck in his mind. The coral sunrise burned bright and he drove faster. There was no choice but to see her again.”

That coral sunrise is the perfect place to start with Pomélo Paradis. Imagine a bright orb rising over distant mountains, staining the snowy caps with peachy light. Hanging in the air is a cool blast of perfect, bitter-sweet citrus, the clarity of which is stunning. It instantly refreshes the spirit and makes the mouth water. As sunlight starts to creep across the plains below, it highlights the glimmering roof of a silver car, sending up a trail of dust as it hurtles towards the distant silhouette of a fairground, still shadowed beneath the rocky peaks. Slowly, with a paintbrush loaded with gold ink, the arc of the ferris wheel is gilded in sunbeams and the light starts to penetrate into the tents and amusements of the fair. There rises the most delicious aroma of candy floss and orange peel, of fizzy sherbet and red and white swirled sugar lollipops
.From inside one of the tents steps a woman, her red hair burnished to bronze in the sunlight. She moves into the freshness of the morning, a tall glass of steaming mint tea cupped between her hands. She watches the dust trail as it draws closer and closer, her heart fluttering with hope. Could it be him? She stands in the full gaze of the morning sun, waiting…

Pomélo Paradis is a joyful celebration of citrus in all its bright, sparkling glory. After the initial blast of sharp grapefruit and mandarin, the scent becomes more like petals crusted in sugar, blossoming beyond straightforward citrus cologne and into a conceptual vision of a fairground- before anyone has arrived to kick up dust. The sweet spin of a candy floss machine, clouds of pink and peach dissolving into lemonade, mint leaves steeping in Pomelo juices.
Hints of rose and orange blossom cradle Pomélo Paradis' heart and warmth from the amber gives it surprising longevity. There is a certain thrill to be had inhaling this concoction, an adrenaline rush akin to whirling around and around on the back of a golden gilded carousel pony. Or perhaps the pattering of a heart filled with hope and love, that inexplicable connection between two people about to be reunited.
If you enjoy sunny citrus scents Pomélo Paradis is paradise indeed and a fitting tribute to Atelier Cologne's success story It is an absolute pleasure to wear; fresh, shimmering and instantly is mood lifting, especially this frigid winter with its bone chilling winds, with just a spritz, I dream of warm spring day in Paris and a ride on La Grand Rue de Paris.
