Drybar Salon in Tribeca Photo: Drybar
“I love blow-drying my own hair,” said nobody ever. Like most naturally curly-haired girls, I dread blow-drying my own hair. Not to mention, I am awful at it.
I refuse to pay $65 -$150 to have my hair blown out at an overpriced a Fifth Avenue, New York City salon; I won't go to the local discount chair where I'll end up with tangled snarly strands that frizz as soon as I walk out the door.

Enter Drybar, a chain of blow-dry only salons with locations in California, New York City, Texas, Georgia, Arizona, Illinois, Massachusetts & Washington DC. Blowouts are $40 a pop, and include complimentary drinks and snacks (the mimosas and ginger-snap cookies are my personal favorite). I’ve been to a few Drybar locations in New York City, but the Tribeca Drybar is my favorite. There are several hairstyles to choose from, with cute cocktail inspired names including The Cosmo (big curls), The Mai Tai (beach loose curls), The Cosmo-Tai (a combo of beachy big curls), The Southern Comfort (lots of volume with a slight curl), The Straight Up (straight and sleek), The Uptini (an updo), the Manhattan (straight and sleek with a flip), and the newest style – The Dirty Martini (bed-head messy). My favorite is The Mai Tai, which has multiple variations (“loose” Mai Tai or “tight” Mai Tai).

Besides price and convenience, my favorite thing about Drybar is consistency. I have been to Drybar around 20 times now and almost every time I’ve had a different stylist. Regardless of the Drybar stylist, I can ask for a “Cosmo” and it will be perfect each time and look exactly the same. I was told that this is because Drybar stylists go through rigorous national training programs, so the results are uniform regardless of geographic location. If you are addicted like me, you can buy packages at a discount (or ask for gift cards from everyone for holidays).

For those of you that don’t have a Drybar location nearby, you should consider moving (just kidding! sort of…). Joking aside, Drybar has full line of styling products and tools to help you achieve the perfect blowout at home. The haircare products are sulfate free, paraben free and never tested on animals. They are available on QVC, (love those three easy payments), Sephora or TheDrybar.com.

My favorite is the Detox dry shampoo, which in my experience can make a Drybar blowout last up to 5 days in even the most humid weather. Don't have the bucks for highlights? Try Drybar’s Gold Mine Shimmering Leave in Conditioner which adds dimension to even the flattest hair color and has a light summery floral scent.
Disclosure: I wasn’t compensated for this review with complimentary blow drys or Dry Bar hair products
