One of my all time favorite fragrances is Frapin 1270, launched in 2002 and which was reformulated by Perfumer Sidonie Lancesseur in 2010 (very close just a bit lighter). P Frapin and Co, known for their exquisite cognacs was founded in 1270 and when Frapin 1270 debuted, this one fragrance opened the door for the many boozy and wine inspired fragrances which would follow. I own the original bottle and formulation.

Their perfumes can fly under the radar, unless there is a star perfumer behind it, (1697 by Bertrand Duchaufour 2011) and Speak Easy by Marc-Antoine Corticcchiato of Parfums D'Empire (2012). I don’t believe Nevermore will fly under the radar with its raven wings, as it is an ode to poet Edgar Allen Poe, when on the poet’s birthday, January 19th, a mysterious visitor left three red roses and a flask of Cognac on his tomb. Maison Frapin has drawn inspiration from this legend to create a new olfactory narration. Frapin chose perfumer Anne-Sophie Behaghel, a relatively unknown young perfumer, who created fragrances for Liquides Imaginaires to interpret the enigmatic gesture of the stranger, into a dark, baroque universe, purple roses and amber liquid …
The notes include rose, amber, aldehydes, florazone, nutmeg, black pepper, Atlas cedar and saffron.
Frapin Nevermore is available now at Jovoy Paris in France in 100 ml Eau de Parfum and will be launched to select stockists in September.
