New Perfume Review: Diptyque Geranium Odorata and Eau de Lavande + Les Eaux for Summer Draw

Diptyque, based in France, is a fragrance house that I really appreciate. Their scents are interesting and unique, with a lot of personality, and I have several in my collection. I was very interested to try two new entries into their collection "Les Eaux", Geranium Odorata and Eau de Lavande. Les Eaux is broken into two collections, Les Hespéridées, which are citrus-based Eaux de Cologne, and Les Florales, which are floral Eaux de Toilettes. Geranium Odorata and Eau de Lavande are both in the Les Florales collection.

"Rose Geranium" by Chris Carter

I love rose geranium, and Geranium Odorata opens with a pich-perfect blast of  that tingly rose-but-not, almost medicinal geranium note. Pretty quickly the fragrance becomes peppery, simmering around the edges of the crisp, leafy geranium. I adore a good peppery perfume, and this one kept me quite happy during a pretty summer day. As the fragrance wears, a bit of soft sweetness emerges, creating a warm drydown that had my nose down my shirt more than once. This one is a candidate for being added to my Diptyque collection; I could imagine just throwing it on when I want something a bit beyond cologne but not heavy. The longevity is pretty good, too.

Notes: Bergamot, Geranium Bourbon, Rose geranium, Pink peppercorn, Tonka bean, Haitian vetiver, Cedar

"The Lavenders" by Margaret Berg

Eau de Lavande is a simple, but excellent take on lavender. I'm a little perplexed by it, actually. Made of lavender absolute and essences, plus spices like cardamom and cinnamon leaf, it wavers between a nice sleepy time lavender and a rousing spice scent. I can't stop smelling my hand. It's more than a skin scent but is definitely snuffleable. I found the far drydown a tad sweet, and probably wouldn't wear it in hot weather. I'm going to wear it to bed tonight, and I imagine I'll have great dreams.

Notes: Absolute lavender and essential oils, Coriander seed, Cinnamon leaf, Nutmeg

I received my samples from the San Francisco Diptyque boutique. The fragrances are available in 100 ml for $98 or 20 ml roll-on for $48 on the Diptyque website, at  select stockists, and boutiques.

The kind folks at the boutique gave me an extra set of samples to send to any reader in the US. Leave a comment letting us know which of these you think you'd like, if you have a favorite Diptyque fragrance, and where you live.

I’m in the US, and I think Geranium Odorata would be a perfect summer scent. L’eau de Tarocco doesn’t seem to get much love or attention but I like it a lot in hot weather.

  • I cannot make up my mind which one sounds better to me…I am drawn to the Eau de Lavande. Something comforting soothing about Lavender that always fits the bill. My favorite Is Eau de Lierre, its green and awesome in the summer. Great reviews, now I want to try these even more. 🙂

This would be my first foray into the Diptyque line & I would probably try Geranium Odorata first…tingly..leafy…peppery & sweet…however, they both sound amazing! US resident.

  • I would love to try Geranium Odorata. Tam Dao is my favorite Diptyque fragrance, and I am in the US.

  • Jennifer Witt says:

I would take either the Geranium or the Lavande! They both sound fabulous and Diptyque is my kryptonite. If I had to name a current favorite I would say Philosykos Eau de Parfum as it is entirely unique and I’m nearly finished with my full sized bottle of it. I live in the US.

  • I have been eyeing Eau de Lavande for a while now, and would love to try it. My favorite Diptyque is probably Volutes, but I also love Eau Duelle and 34.

Thanks for the giveaway! I live in the US.

  • I would love to try the Eau de Lavande. I’ve never tried a Diptyque fragrance. I live in the US.

Thank you for this article. The illustrations are beautiful!

I think I would like them both, but am especially intrigued by a lavender spice concoction. Several Diptiques have my heart but my favorite is still Philosykos. Thanks for the reviews and the draw, I’m in the US.

  • After my failed attempts at finding the last remaining bottle of Nicolai pour homme (my go-to lavender), I was told that eau de lavande might make a suitable alternative. I’d love to try it.

My favorite of the line would have to be Philosykos.

Thanks for the draw. I’m in the US.

  • I sniffed Geranium Odorata last week, and immediately realized it could be my favorite from the line. I live in the US.

Just commented but forgot to mention I’m a U.S. reader. Sorry about that !

  • I loce Diptyque so much , it’s hard to choose a favorite. I guess I wear L’Ombre Dans L’Eau the most, so maybe that is my favorite, but I’m almost equally in love with Philosykos and Tam Dao. Of these new scents, I would love most to try Eau de Lavande. I live in the US.

  • I love lavender scent so that is the one I think I would gravitate to. This time of year my favorite Diptyque is my big bottle of L’Eau. I am in the US.

  • I love Eau Duelle and Tam Dao, and would be very happy to win these samples. I grow scented geraniums and they are my favorite summertime pick-me-up.

Volutes is my favorite Diptyque by far. Just yesterday I saw a comment somewhere else about Geranium Odorata and would love to try it. I had disliked Rose Geranium for years after spilling a bottle of essential oil, but I really love the note and am ready to get back in the proverbial saddle! In the US.

  • I’ve adored many Diptyque scents, from Tam Dao to the florals such as Do San and Ofresia. The candles are all delightful, too.
The lavender scent sounds amazing. Their take on geranium intrigues me. When done correctly, geranium is beautiful. When not, it can be over the top medicinal. Balance is the key and I’m hoping Diptyque’s version will be as stunning as their other creations.
I’m in the US. Thank you for this opportunity!

  • My fave Diptyques are Philosykos and Tam Dao – they fill different cravings. I’d be more inclined to try Geranium Odorata.

Thanks for the draw! I am located in the US.

  • I’ve heard good things about Geranium Odorata and would love to try it. I don’t have much experience with Diptyque, so I don’t have a favorite. Thanks for the chance. U.S.

  • Yes I have a favorite, it’s Eau Duelle. And I’d welcome winning this sample set. U.S.

  • I have a number of favorites: Philosykos, Eau Moheli, Olene.

I’m sure both of the fragrances discussed in the review are excellent. I am leaning towards Geranium Odorata.

    Live in the U.S.

  • 2014 finds me in a geranium kick so that is the one I’d like to try, Geranium Odorata. My fave from the line now is Tam Dao. 🙂 U.S.

  • ah, geranium. i am just finding this note for myself (by falling in love with malle’s geranium pour monsieur, expensively enough. ack!) would love to try the diptyche’s interpretation. so patty p — which other geranium fragrances would you recommend i try?

  • Leaning toward the Geranium Odorata, in spite of being a devoted lavender lover, whether straight, herbed, floral, spiced, or sweetened. But I am craving geranium. My fix: DSH Feuilles–it has a fantastic geranium note. My current Diptyque favorite is Tam Dao. Massachusetts.

  • I would like to try eau de lavande ven though I’m not a fan of lavender in fragrances but Diptique blends fragrances seemlessly needless to say. My fav. is Tam Dao and Philosykos.
    USA thanks

I think I’d like Geranium Odorata. My favorite Diptyque fragrance is a Choisya Mexican Orange candle and I live in the US.

  • Fazal Cheema says:

  • I’m in the US. I’m a lavender junkie, so I’d most like to try that scent. I have several Diptyque fragrances, but my favorites are Oyedo and Eau de Tarrocco. Thanks for the draw!
