One of the most fruitful partnership in all of perfumery is between Creative Director Joe Garces and perfumer Aurelien Guichard for Robert Piguet. Ever since M. Guichard participated in the renewal of Baghari in 2006 theirs has been a true partnership which has lead Robert Piguet back to a position of prominence. One of the things which makes it work so well is that there is a very simple communication between Mr. Garces and the artist who will realize the vision. For their latest it is once again simplicity which leads to something special. Mr. Garces realized there wasn’t a rose centered fragrance within the Robert Piguet collection. By asking that question of M. Guichard Rose Perfection de Robert Piguet resulted.

Rose is often the star, of a fragrance, but it usually carries a significant supporting cast. For Rose Perfection M. Guichard took a different tack by stripping away everything else and just blending Bulgarian Rose with different rose absolutes. This results in a surprising synergy where each rose component simultaneously enhances and contrasts the other.

Bulgarian rose (rosa damascena) contains a pronounced spicy facet and that is what is on display in the earliest moments. I also find the Bulgarian version of rose to be warmer than other varieties and that is also at work in the opening. Then it seems like there are a number of other rose facets which start to interact. There is a heady sweet aspect which contrasts the natural piquancy. There is a pronounced sparkle and that contrasts a subtle jasmine-like quality. In and out, the ebb and flow of Rose Perfection seems to contain everything you like if you’re a rose fragrance lover. It is an ever evolving fragrance and it never seems to stand still until the very end when a bit of musk grabs it in a bear hug. Over the final phases of development Rose Perfection becomes a little more human and less perfect but still memorable.

Rose Perfection has overnight longevity and above average sillage.

flawless-diamond

Rose Perfection is as simple a fragrance as you could imagine; it is just rose. While in a lesser artist’s hands just rose could be pedestrian. In M. Guichard’s hands it is an examination of rose as if it was a priceless diamond asking you to examine it from all angles searching for a flaw. The best part of Rose Perfection de Robert Piguet is that search is fruitless as it is a flawless gem of the highest quality.

  • I had a chance to sample this and fell in love immediately. I love Rose fragrances for many reasons, There are s many different variation of roses and rose fragrances that sometimes its very hard to pick one favorite. This is one of the nicest Rose fragrances i have had the pleasure of smelling.

  • Carole Fallon says:

My favorite rose is the beautiful yellow ‘Graham Thomas’. Highly scented golden English rose.

  • Oh, this is a must sample for me. Piguet Visa & Baghari are among my favorite fragrances, and rose is among my favorite notes.

What I like about rose is that is it utterly common yet there are so many unique rose fragrances. I’d put my current obsession, LAP Safran Troublant, in the category of a unique take on rose.

  • My favorite rose is Rose de Nuit, for its dominatrix side. I also like MDCI Rose de Siwa a lot, a fresh pale rose, lovely.

  • I’ve never found a rose fragrance that entranced me, but roses were my father’s favorite flower, and a good hardy rose bouquet always turns my head. They really are stunning flowers, but they must be hard to replicate in perfumery, because rose scents, to me, always smell “bottled” and synthetic. That’s why I’m so intrigued by this review. I’d love to have the chance to experience a finely crafted, true rose scent. Thanks for the review and the draw! Robert Piguet fragrances are always wonderful classics.

  • I love Lumiere Noire pour Homme by Francis Kurkdjian. Gorgeous, fantastic minimalistic rose! He does a wonder every time he creates a perfume!

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  • I like my rose to be dark and sultry, with a slight fruitiness to it. Guerlain’s Nahema is probably my favorite so far, closely followed by FM’s Une Rose.

  • I love rose because it’s such a versatile note in perfumery; it can play sweet, dark, fruity; blends well with heavy materials like oud and spice or be whipped into a beautiful floral froth with lighter blossom. A well composed rose soloflore is a gorgeous treatment and I look forward to trying out the Robert Piquet version. Thanks for the review and the draw! I’m in the US.

  • My favourite Piguet fragrance is Bandit followed by Cravache. I am looking forward to trying Rose Perfection! Thanks for the draw!

  • I like a deep heavy rose scent it makes you Feel as if your in the very middle of the bloom as it opens with dew drops on the petals and a good rose layers well

  • Farawayspices says:

My favorite rose is from my childhood backyard. They were beautiful, plump yellow roses with such a distinctively yellow-rosey scent. Smelling the difference between the flower on the shrub, the cut flower in a vase, and the fruity overripe scent of the petals as they curled backwards, right before they would start to fall…it fascinated me as a child.

My favorite Piguet so far is Fracas.

  • I’ve loved Calypso ever since I tried it. I like the Tuscany rose. Thank you for this draw. I am a US reader.

  • Chapeau Clack says:

How do I love thee… Ta’if rose is the crowning jewel of my olfactory garden, followed closely by the greatest shape shifter of all times, the Damascena.
As for my favorite Piguet creation, it’s the stunning Bandit.

  • My favorite Piguet is Cravache and followed really close by Bandit. Thanks for the draw. I live in the US.

  • I must have read the question wrong when I posted my comment. I thought you were asking about our favorite rose perfumes. lol.
My favorite Piguet would be Fracas – still one of the best tuberose-centered perfumes around.

  • When I was a very little girl, my grandmother used to dry roses from her garden to use in potpourri. It was a white rose and had been there for decades. It’s not a formal cultivar as far as I know. Alas, I’ve never smelled another scent even remotely like it.

  • bandit — hands down.
but i also like fracas a lot — even though usually tuberose is not my thing. but in fracas it has something fuzzy-peachy that i find intoxicating.

this rose perfection sounds — oh, perfect, eh?

    🙂

  • My favorite is the old pink moss rose. There was a bush, now long gone, next to an outbuilding of the old hardware store in the town where I grew up, and another in the yard of a Victorian house where I used to work. That one is still there even though no one looks after it anymore.

  • Another Bandit fan here. Favorite rose that is a tough one, love the heritage roses. Top runner is Gertrude Jekyll’. Would love this rose, thanks for the draw.

  • I love roses, but I don’t know any breeds specifically. My favorite Robert Piguet is Bandit. Thanks for the draw!

  • My favorite roses in perfume are bulgarian rose and taif rose. Rose Perfection sounds just perfect. My favorite Robert Piguet until now is Calypso.

Thanks to Joe Carces, Aurelien Cuichard and Cafleurebon for this wonderful draw.

  • One of my favorite roses currently is the 19th century rose Baron Girod de l’Ain, which I grow in my garden. Thanks for such a great draw!

  • I haven’t found a favorite rose yet, there are so many good ones I’ d love to have them all! From Robert Piguet I own and like Visa a lot!

  • My favorite Piguet scent is Bandit! I love rose perfumes, generally the darker the better. Thanks for the generous draw!

  • I happen to wear Fracas today. As it is the only Piguet fragrance I know (so far) this would be my favorite Piguet.
    Thanks for the draw!

  • I love roses and have squeezed them into my garden everywhere…we have Blue Moon, Mr Lincoln, Eiffel Tower. I don’t care about colour, only scent, so it’s the old fashioned type.
The only Piguet I have tried is Baghari, but would love to sample this Rose!

  • Fazal Cheema says:

Bulgarian rose continues to be my favorite because i am a fan of rose fragrances (both masculine and feminine). My favorite Piguet Fragrance continues to be Fracas which is again centered around a flower though Bandit and Knightsbridge come close. In fact, Knightsbridge also has dense floral elements, possiby due to iris.

  • I love Une Rose by Frederic Malle. Gorgeous, fantastic rose!
My favorite Piguet perfume is always Baghari, the perfume of my mother.
    Thanks for the giveaway!

  • My favourite rose is ‘Gertrude Jekyll’ which is deep pink and wonderfully fragrant and can be grown as a shrub or a small climber. Like the previous commenter my favourite Piguet perfume has always been Baghari.

  • “Forever Young” red roses are the breed that I love the most!
I live in EU. Thanks for this draw !

  • My favorite is Bulgarian rose due to the spicy aspect. I like that Rose Perfection focuses mainly on the rose itself…simply perfect!
Thank you for this amazing draw!

  • My favorite roses are David Austin. They are beautiful, fragrant roses bred for the garden. Love them!

  • Sara Boorman says:

There is a rose called ‘Sheila’s Perfume’. It reminds me of my mother who loved roses so it is my very favourite. I also love Chai by Robert Piguet because it is so unusual.

  • It’s hard to pick just one rose, but a current favorite is a floribunda called ‘Hot Cocoa’. And David Austin English Roses of course. As for Piguet perfumes, I don’t have one favorite, but I like Baghari, Visa and Bandit.

  • I adore white roses – Rosa alba. And I like Fracas and Bandit, though these are the only Piguets I know so far!

  • I grow roses, so I’ve definitely got some favorites – “Colette” is magnificent, “Abraham D’Arby” smells like roses mixed with lemons, and the pink Knockouts scent our entire garden. Sigh. Just when they’re forecasting snow…

  • Honey Perfume is my favorite rose… divine. I like Fracas, but not on me. Would love to try other Piguet scents. I am in the US.

  • I love tea rose. I love Fracas by Piguet. I remember years ago thinking it was so strong, and now I just love it. I had to mature into such a beautiful perfume, I guess!

  • I love shrub roses for their value in the landscape – they give a pop of color and will bloom all summer! Unfortunately they don’t have the smell that the other varieties have. I’d love to smell Rosa damascena in real life, hopefully one day I will! Thank you for the draw, I live in the US. This perfume sounds lovely.

  • leathermountain says:

I wish I knew enough breeds of roses to have a favorite! Cultivating a diverse rose garden is, for now, still a dream. I really love Bandit and Baghari. I’m most familiar with the EdP’s, but I have smelled them at parfum concentration. Both are stunners, but I think that Baghari is really transformed, given so much extra body and resonance, as an extrait. So, Baghari. Thank you so much for this wonderful draw. I am in the US.

  • A rose by any other name is just not a rose. For me, any rose is an olfactory treat but I do love the Bulgarian. I’ve morphed through the years from Fracas to Bandit. So hard to have an absolute favorite when they are both so exceptional, so unique. I’m always being asked “what are you wearing.” I welcome the opportunity to try Rose Perfection. By the way, the photograph of the bottle nestled on the roses is sensational!

  • I have grown up with the scent of the Bulgarian roses – mainly Rosa damascena and Rosa centifolia breeds. However, when I went to Eltville in Germany last year, I visited the rose garden in the castle and I fell in love with an intensely scented yellow rose called Gold Duft. The fragrance it emitted was dominating in the otherwise pretty smelling garden. It was like rose water with vanilla cream and quince jam! Amazing!
I am a fan of Bandit and it will always be a first choice when I’m craving leather fragrance!

  • I have grown to love rose scents recently!! My favourite roses are the damascena ones and my favourite RP fragrance is Fracas!

  • I have been wearing Fracas and Bandit since the 70’s, I believe they were hard to find for a few years after that. My bottles are from the early 90’s. I loved to mix a little Civet Oil from Alyssa Ashley (remember the musk, civet and ambergris oils?) Tamed the tuberose trail a little, but men always complimented me. Also like the new formulation of Bahari. The rose/jasmine combo is rich and rewarding. I loved the contrast between the feminine and heady Fracas, and then the devil in Bandit. I only wore Bandit at night, and when I was looking for trouble or causing trouble. I do adore the dark Ta’if rose, and generally like most rose perfumes. Rose Perfection sounds like a “perfect” addition to a very special House.

  • I love Bandit, but also admire Baghari, another rose! I have yet to find my absolutely perfect rose, however — maybe this will be it! I live in the U.S…in case it matters. 😉 Thanks!

  • I love wild roses and I love moss roses, but I think the David Austin variety of garden roses are my favorite, with Sharifa Asma and Gertrude Jekyll being my favorites of the bunch.

My favorite Piguet depends on my mood; Visa when I’m feeling feisty, and Baghari when I need to behave myself!

Thanks for the chance to win; rose is my favorite note and this one sounds like it was well-named!

  • My fav. roses are Turkish rose and Rose Taif. I appreciate Robert Piquet’s Fracas but just can’t wear it.
    USA
    Thanks

  • I admire roses for their beauty, but I’m not that familiar with them to identify/comment on which breed they are.

My favorites of the Piguet house are Futur and Fracas.

  • I’m not very knowledgeable on types of roses, but I do love the Ta’if.
My favorite Piguet perfume is Casbah. Thanks for the draw!

  • I LOVE Taif rose (Damask Rose) it’s so rich and powerful. giving out a nice dense fresh rose scent. just beautiful!

I’m in Thailand so International =)

  • I like Rosa centifolia more than Rosa damascena, but most of all I adore wild roses growing on Baltic dunes where I live.
As for Piguet my choice is Bois Noir.

  • maysamassimo says:

My favorite Piguet fragrance is definitely Fracas. Actually, it’s one of my all time favorite fragrances. Thanks for the draw!

  • I love roses of all varieties, but Bulgarian rose is my favourite, it’s so rich and deep. Thank you for the draw!

  • I like both Futur and Cravache – it’s a draw:) I’m afraid I don’t know the different species of rose: I tend to enjoy the smell of dark red-crimson roses the most…

    (I’m an ‘international reader)

  • I like Bulgarian rose, I have some faint memory, if I only could point it. I have not sampled perfumes by Piguet yet, but Fracas and Bandit are high on my list.

  • Someotherspring says:

I LOVE ‘Blossom’ by Piguet, even more than the classic Fracas, which of course, is flawless. My best rose is Turkish: feminine but powerful!

  • Chris Schaefer says:

We grow roses only for their scent. Such a variety! I love my garden. I think that layering rose on rose is exquisite. I love the heirloom roses and when I purchase an absolute I love the Moroccan Rose the most. Then I digress…..

I am in the US. Thanks for the draw.

  • This sounds lovely! I love all rose scents (that I’ve tried thus far!) but I think my favorite would be the wild roses that live on the dunes near the ocean where I grew up. Such lovely memories!

  • I have no smelled all the roses, but the turkish rose is a divine smell. Something about make me enjoy it. I believe le labo uses some of oils from turkish rose in their perfumes. The bulgerian rose in Piguet sounds very interesting, as I enjoy that touch of spiciness.

    USA

  • I’m not that familiar with different types of roses, but the Bulgarian rose with its spiciness and jasmine-like quality sounds like what I would like. Thanks for the draw!

  • I received a bottle of Visa as a gift and really like it. I don’t use it often but when I do, I always get compliments.
