Hellenist Les Bras de Morphée (In the arms of Morpheus) was selected as a finalist at the Fragrance Foundation Awards France 2025, in the category “Best Niche Fragrance – Brand under 5 years”—a significant recognition for a creation suspended between wakefulness and surrender, where dreams begin to take hold. Hellenist was launched in 2024 by founder and creative director Jean-David Jacoby to share his love of Greece and the art of fragrance creation. Hellenist is proud to be a true Mediterranean house, inspired by Greece and made in France; all its components come from the Mediterranean region, with a strong commitment to environmental impact. Carlo Amen is the artist on their labels. His “neo-cubist” approach, as he likes to call it, allows him to represent a part of his reality without being encumbered by it. His flat surfaces, lines, and faces become the naive expression of his observation of contemporary society.

I sprayed Hellenist Les Bras de Morphée one late afternoon after receiving it. I found myself entranced by the world of Hellenist, a brand that echoes the spirit of Hellenistic times, infusing the essence of Greece into every bottle. The first thing that hit me was violet leaf and peach, sunny and uncomplicated. It’s the kind of opening that makes you smile—fresh, slightly green, a little effervescent. The peach gives it a soft, ripe fruitiness without slipping into candied territory; the violet leaf keeps it grounded in a leafy, almost mineral brightness. Immediately, I was on a terrace—no agenda, only light and easy conversation.

As it warmed on my skin, the heart architecture slowly revealed itself. Orris renders a regal powderiness with a rooty, slightly woody depth and a velvety texture. Steeped in rich legend, it has been said that Orris was favored by Aphrodite herself. The violet in the heart is gentler than the top, less overtly floral and more reminiscent of twilight—soft, reserved, and somehow conspiratorial. Hazel wood drifts through these notes quietly, adding a dry, nutty woodiness that keeps the composition honest. It doesn’t shout; instead, it feels hypnotic. I could almost feel the arms of Morpheus, god of dreams, cradling me.

The drydown is where Les Bras de Morphée finds its authentic voice. Vanilla and tonka bean melt into each other, creating a warm base that feels nostalgic rather than dessert. Think of a late-afternoon pause in a small café —comfortable, intimate, slightly saccharine but perfectly balanced by the earlier wooded notes. Cashmeran whispers through the finish, lending an elegant, textile-like softness that sits close to the skin. The result is quietly seductive: the scent hugs you rather than projecting loudly into the room.

On my skin, it lasted well into the evening— before settling into a subtle, intimate aura that I could catch in occasional whiffs the next morning. Hellenist Les Bras de Morphée feels versatile. It’s at home in a relaxed weekend scenario, a stroll through a coastal village, an afternoon of gallery hopping—but also translates well to quieter evening moments: an intimate gathering, or simply curling up with a book. It’s not the sort of perfume to dominate a room or demand attention; rather, it enhances the moment, like a good soundtrack to a private scene.

Suppose you’re familiar with the powdery-orris style of fragrances. In that case, this sits in that lineage but with a breezier, Mediterranean tilt—less heavy than classic orris-centric perfumes, more playful than austere. The interplay of green violet leaf and hazel wood gives it a slightly more contemporary wearable edge compared with older, more formal orris compositions.

Les Bras de Morphée is quietly enchanting and disarmingly unique… refined and slightly nostalgic, yet modern, with a classic heart.

Notes: violet leaf, peach, heliotrope, orris, violet, hazelwood, vanilla, tonka bean, cashmeran

Disclosure: I purchased a bottle of Hellenist Les Bras de Morphée; thoughts and words are my own.

  • I live in the USA, and I’m intrigued by Sandi’s mention of a “velvety texture” that comes through in the perfume. Very curious to smell what that’s like!

  • Hellenist Paris is a brand I never heard of so thank you Sandi for highlighting this Les Bras de Morphée.
I love orris and peach but never thought of them together, but Sandy notes it’s breezy like the Mediterranean. I hope Luckyscent gets it soon, I definitely want to check out more.

Les Bras de Morphée seems like it might be earthy, and it seems like it would be more interesting than designer fragrances which might be of this style. I really like the combination of fruitiness like peach in combination with iris, and I like violet leaf and violet flower in fragrances. Also, I’m intrigued to try it when Sandi mentions that it’s a powdery-orris style of fragrance, but with a breezier, Mediterranean tilt. Please count me in! I live in MD, USA.

  • Orris, tonka, vanilla, after a sunny violet and peach opening on an open terrace? Yes, please! I have not been to Greece (yet) do this will need to tide me over until I get there. A lovely review and scent. I’m in the US, thank you

  • Hellenistic sounds just lovely. “quietly enchanting and disarmingly unique…” is how I would like to come across. I am in the US.

I have seen interviews with Jean-David Jacoby all 4 offerings from the house have been on my radar for a while to try. This description makes it sound really nice and comforting. The fruity opening with the airy orris sounds great! This one out of the four had my most interest! Thank you for offering a sample!

  • First I want to say I love the idea of a scent enhancing the moment instead of being loud and dominant ( there is a time and place for both). I’m intrigued by the house being Mediterranean using materials from that area. Greece is a beautiful place. Les Bras de Morphee sounds like a beautiful fragrance. I love a peach note. I also enjoy the powdery facet orris brings to a scent. The base of vanilla tonka bean and cashmeran sounds lovely. A fragrance with the vibe of a warm day in Greece i imagine would be elegant and serene which is the idea i get from reading this piece. I am definitely curious about this house and looking. forward to trying it. I’m in Pennsylvania USA

  • Thank you for donating 5ml for the drawing! The review makes this sound so wonderfully meditative and transporting: Now that we are in the cold time of year, this gentle journey to a soft, warm fresh place sounds very welcome. I love that this is not the usual bright, sharply citrus interpretation of the Isles, but a more laid back soft vibe. I need more laid back in my life! I do live in the USA.

What really sparks my interest in Hellenist Les Bras de Morphée is how effortlessly it blends storytelling with sophistication. I’ve never experienced this brand before, but the idea of a fragrance inspired by Greece and crafted with that kind of Mediterranean soul instantly draws me in. It feels calm, intimate, and quietly confident, like something you wear for yourself, not for attention. But, the thought of tonka bean and vanilla hitting me on that dry down………………………my goodness. lol

  • What a transitory description. The floral, buttery, root like nutty woodiness and nostalgic dry down of a cafe pause. This sounds like heaven something I’d wear even in moments of solitude. I live in NY, USA

I live in the USA. What drew me to Sandi’s review of Les Bras de Morphée is the way she describes its quiet intimacy — the feeling of being “cradled in the arms of Morpheus” with violet leaf and peach softening into orris and tonka. I’m intrigued by how it balances that powdery classical elegance with a modern Mediterranean lightness — like drifting between wakefulness and dreams on a sunlit terrace in Greece.

  • I’d love to be wearing this at a cafe overlooking the ocean in Greece. I love that it is long lasting. I love orris centered fragrances, all these notes are some of my favorites. Thanks for the chance to try this. USA.

  • What a beautiful and poetic review! The story of Les Bras de Morphée by Hellenist and Suzy Le Helley truly feels like being embraced by dreams. I love how you described its elegant, timeless aura and the creative vision behind it—it sounds like a fragrance that captures both serenity and imagination. Thank you for this inspiring write-up and the chance to win such a dreamy creation!

  • That sunny violet leaf and peach opening sounds wonderful, and it’s a combination I don’t think I’ve experienced. The violet seems to be the lynchpin of this whole composition, present throughout and the through-line to the orris heart. I like the way it’s used here to give the powdery texture a green cast. Wonderful. (Also, love Carlo Amen’s spartan bottle design.)

Thank you Sani for the giveaway offer of a decant of Les Bras de Morphée! I love orris in fragrances, and a breezy Mediterranean spin on this note sounds wonderful. I have dreamed about visiting Greece for so many years. I’d love to wear this fragrance both as I plan my trip and then when I arrive.

Thanks for the graceful and myth-rich review! The Hellenist Les Bras de Morphée seems to capture that dream-embrace beautifully—violet leaf and peach opening into a heart of buttery iris and nutty hazelnut, then settling into a soft cashmeran-tonka-vanilla lull. I loved how the powdery violet and rooty iris dance together, creating a scent that feels both cosy and contemplative. The dry-down’s gentle warmth reminds me of drifting into a calm evening, wrapped in plush fabric and quiet thoughts. I’d love to try Les Bras de Morphée!
