Andrea Rubini and perfumer Cristiano Canali of Mane are back with their latest collaboration Idìlios. Having blasted us into the stratosphere with the rocket fueled Zen of Hyperion, Idìlios takes us on a new journey its a moment in time that you bathe in, letting its subtle beauty reveal itself as you move through the soft vanilla dreams with osmanthus tinted sunglasses on yet it connects with the meditative incense elements of Hyperion’s quieter moments. Idìlios lingers in the air around you like those magic late summers days, the kind Don Henley sang about in ‘Boys of the Summer’. It’s a light beauty, that’s tinged with a musky darkness, whose melody is played in soft pastel tones, feeling joyful, but like all the best love songs there’s an edge of darkness, a something more, a lost love that someone you can never forget. Idìlios gives you a stunning space to dream this past dream in.

Peach glows like the sun as Rubini Idìlios opens you feel its soft rays of sweet mandarin burst with zest as plumes of a rich woody creamy smooth vanilla roll in like dense clouds enveloping this peach like sun. Idìlios feels like happiness, memories of past summers captured in a blissful way. The vanilla here is outstanding, you get to experience the full sensation of vanilla bean, all it’s velvety and creamy with a milky warmth wrap around you giving it a baked goods feel. This is the real vanilla deal here, it’s has all the depth and darkness of the vanilla bean and three different extractions were used. Bergamot’s citrus freshness mixes in a touch of sour to this rich vanilla, thickening it up into a custard density. Powdered vanilla feels like its been lightly dusted over the peachy fresh sun giving Idìlios a gourmand feel but it’s definitely not a gourmand gourmand perfume. There’s a subtle freshness that haunts the edges of Idìlios, a gentle tone of green tea, just adding a subtle shade to the mix as Cristiano Canali brings in a counter point and teases out a more tropical summer vibes summoning flowers to bloom. Osmanthus with its apricot sweetness adds a thickness to the peach juices while champaca conjures the pulp of the peaches flesh. A drizzle of honey swirls with a light narcotic floral feel that seeps into the vanilla, adding more body to its stunning texture. Champaca’s headiness is weaved into the rich woody complex vanillas as soft lilac and jasmine facets whisper of dirty and innocent summers love desires.

Rubini Idìlios balances all these rich materials in an elegant way. Wearing it gives the sensation of being in a moment that gradually unfolds, like to a memory or a dream unfolding in slow motion. The body of Idìlios has a substantial richness, yet its ethereal, cloud like delicacy makes it feel weightless, soft powdery plumes haunt the air around you as you move, its more complex scents are reserved for those who you allow to come closer.

The perfume slowly reveals more as it dries down, Cristiano Canali has used textures throughout the Rubini line the oily slick feel of Nuvolari comes to mind with its fiery petrol and leather rearing to go. Idìlios is much softer it captures that sensation of pushing through clouds, with a clever use of coconut and the vanilla bean extract conjuring this textural magic. Powdery isn’t quite the right world, this feel thicker somewhere between the density of cotton candy without its static and cotton wool yet drier and somehow creamy. There’s a lactonic feel never leaves Idìlios, it’s there throughout soaked in the soft seductive memories of the fruits and florals haunting you like a memory of a kiss that makes you dizzy inside. Plumes of musks add to this softness, yet it’s the complexity from Cristiano Canali’s vanilla extractions that gives Idìlio san alluring depth. It’s softly milk and woody, as if blonde wood had the structure of cream and you were cradling it in your hands. Its magic melts over you, continuing that sensation of moving through clouds. The coconut jungle essence extends florals’ tropical feel keeping that undeniable summery feel you get from the instant Idìlios hits your skin.

Other subtle darker facets of the florals reach through the clouds, osmanthus’ supple suede like facets give a buttery nap texture to the coconut vanilla clouds. As this gentle musky darkness works to keep the sweeter aspects of Idìlios in check. It’s a lovely counter point to the early peachy sweetness and brings out a lot more the vanillas lesser-seen facets giving Idìlios an amazing complex depth. Champaca also adds to this muskiness, but more in a loved and lived in way, its fleshy feel provides a more bodily subtle sensual muskiness, like the bodily warmth that lingers in clothing that’s just been removed. It’s a very subtle sensation that you only smell as you get intimate with Idìlios in the air it gives off a subliminal sexy vibe. Idìlios surrounds you like a soft cloud that’s shimmering with darkness and light.  It is composed in subtle tones with a gentle muskiness playing a beautiful harmony to the sweeter melody of the peach and vanilla. The green tea feels more present here, its subtle modulation gives a fresh dryness, that sun warmed feel that’s a step past dry again making you feel that Idìlios is all about the summer. Andrea Rubini and Cristiano Canali have given us in Idìlios a vanilla perfume like no other, simply calling it a vanilla is a disservice as its so much more. Idìlios is a sweet dream that you can be lost in and return to unlike those lost loves of the boys of the summer. Utter magic!

Notes: Mandarin, Bergamot, Peach Jungle Essence, Champaca, Osmanthus, Green Tea Essence, Coconut Jungle Essence, 3 Vanilla Bean Extractions, Musks.

  • O wow Idìlios sounds gorgeous. J’s writing is beautiful and really evokes this fluffy complex perfume. The bottle design is also lovely and really gives an idea what the perfume is all about. Vanilla and peach would usually not immediately draw me in, but I’ve smelled Rubini perfumes before and if those are anything to go by, this will be a complex and real layered fragrance experience. • Rubin fundamental and Hyperion are my two favorites. Idilios sounds amazing a pastel vanilla with muskiness EU

  • I like Rubini Odenaturae and the work of Cristiano Canali. Based on J’s review Idìlios sounds like a well balanced peachy osmanthus based scent with gentle muskiness.l and sweet vanilla. I live in EU.

  • Scent Splits in the states carries their fragerances. I have decanters of Tambour, Fundamental and Nuvolari. Each is a sensory story unto itself, inviting not just wear, but full immersion.

Wearing Fundamental is like donning a surreal landscape. It’s familiar yet disarmingly abstract.

Tambour was an olfactory hell ride that I would not like to impose on anyone.

Nuvolari reminds me of Gasoleather which I love, but often find difficult to wear in public. Both are utterly unique, but I would choose Gasoleather over Nuvolari if I decided to upgrade to a full bottle. It’s only because Gasoleather dries down into a fruity Ombre Leather-esque musk.

  • The cloud-like, ethereal texture of Idìlios strikes me most-balancing creamy vanilla (from three extractions) with peachy sweetness, osmanthus florals, and a subtle musky darkness, evoking dreamy summer memories without being overly gourmand. I live in Poland, EU.

  • I’m from NY this sounds like my dream in a fragrance. Vanilla floral peach soft fluffy goodness, I can’t even imagine what a stunner this would be. Can’t wait to try this!!!

  • Nice review, Mr. J! It’s wonderful what a small perfume shop in a small town, Treviso, can do. We thank Andrea Rubini and his brilliant perfumer, Sig. Canali. After the wonderful Hyperion, they bring us Idilios, an ode to harmony: after the storm, calm. Perfect for this end of summer: light, airy, but with a touch of darkness. If the opening with peach, aided by mandarin and osmanthus, appears, then the vanilla (how much play vanilla gives and will give this year, right Mr. Cortichiatto) in all its splendor: velvety, creamy, fuzzy, rich with its different extractions. Beautiful muskiness to finish, reminding us of the sun that bathed our skin this summer. I live in Spain, EU.

  • Kristof Raemdonck says:

J’s review makes Idìlios feel like late summer in a bottle. Peach upfront. Then three kinds of vanilla that promise a smell that is soft and airy. I love the hint of osmanthus and champaca for that warm, skin-like glow. Green tea and coconut will keep it fresh, but not sugary. The musky cloud idea, creamy and musky, really speaks to me.
Thanks for the draw! I’m in Porto, Portugal (EU).

  • I’m rarely interested in sweet or fruity fragrances, but from J’s review this sounds different. The use of almost-natural coconut to replace lactones looks really interesting and paired with vanilla and osmanthus it can recreate a velvety texture without the chemical facets that aldehydes often have. Besides the technicalities, the perfume sounds like a warm hug from a beloved one, and I’m looking forward to try it! I’m from Italy (EU)

  • You got me at “Andrea and Cristiano have given us in Idilios a vanilla perfume like no other” , i’m intrigued right now. Lactonic, vanilla, softly milk and woody, utter magic indeed. I would live to try it, i’m in the EU.

  • Never tried anything from this house, but thanks to Cafleurebon, I have a chance to test perfumes that I would normally miss! Idìlios sounds like a nice tropical, exotic escapade when I think of the combination of champaca, green tea, osmanthus and coconut!

    Thank you! EU reader here

  • It strikes me that seemingly contrasting descriptions are used, fresh dryness, both subtle sensual and sexy vibes, rich yet ethereal, darkness and light. I think by the notes, it me be a nice scent. I live in the EU.

  • The complexity of the composition can be found in the writing of the review. This makes me want ro experience this fragrance and the tale described by the notes.I live in Greece, EU.

  • AromaAdventurer says:

What strikes me most about Idìlios is the balance J describes between richness and lightness. The nuanced use of vanilla, expanded by peach, osmanthus, and champaca, makes it sound more like an atmosphere than a simple gourmand. It seems to capture both joy and melancholy, a dreamlike space suspended between light and shadow.

  • A summery fragrance painted in pastel tones sounds wonderful as we head into autumn. And this sounds like a vanilla-lover’s vanilla, using three different extractions and conjuring the “full sensation of vanilla bean”, while still wearing light and airy. This texture and balance in a vanilla-forward fragrance is intriguing.

    I’m in the USA.

  • Idilios sounds like a very pleasant scent. I like the unique bottle design and interested to see how peach and vanilla combo will be like. Thanks

    From Ca

  • This perfume seems a pink fluffy cloud in the sky during summer. And now I’m hoping it will rain osmanthus and scented hugs.
I would take this journey to the sky, from Hyperion to Idilios and stay there.
    Thank you for this opportunity!
    Smiles from Italy, EU.

  • I have not tried anything from Rubini, but I must say that I have read great things about their fragrances, so I am sure this one will live up to the brand’s reputation! Thanks! Europe

  • Some months ago I was in Andrea’s perfumery in Mantua and talking a bit with him he ended up letting me smell one of the many versions of what would become Idillios and it was beautiful! Vanilla and fruits are not my (usual) cup of tea but that sample smelled like heaven, with natural coconut and peach and a rich but soft osmathus. I didn’t have the occasion to try the official release but from J’s review it sounds like it has the same vibe! From Italy, eu

  • What strikes me most about this review is the way it treats the perfume as more than just a scent—it becomes a shifting landscape of textures, emotions, and memories. The reviewer dwells less on listing notes and more on describing sensations: clouds you can push through, cotton candy without static, the warmth of clothing just removed, the dizziness of a remembered kiss. This language makes Idìlios feel alive, unfolding like a dream or a fleeting moment rather than a fixed composition. The recurring play between lightness and depth—airy clouds contrasted with musky darkness, sweetness tempered by subtle sensuality—gives the impression of a fragrance that never settles, but instead moves fluidly between moods. What’s most compelling is how the reviewer emphasizes touch and texture as much as smell, making the perfume feel tactile, almost bodily, and therefore deeply intimate.

Thanks for the giveaway ! Based in the EU

  • Thanks for the dreamy feature! Idìlios feels like stepping into a pastel-lit memory of summer—peach and coconut intertwine with sun-kissed mandarin and bergamot, then velvetous osmanthus, champaca, and green tea add lush floral-woodsy layers. The vanilla (drawn from three extractions) brings a creamy cloak that softens everything, while gentle musk and a whisper of darkness give it warmth and a touch of mystery. It’s light yet substantial, joyful yet edged with longing. I’d love to try Idìlios!
    Cheers from WI, USA

  • bottled.memoire says:

This narrative effectively captures the essence of a fleeting summer romance. It evokes a sense of warmth, youthfulness, and gentle intimacy, reminiscent of a cherished memory. The described object serves as a poignant reminder of a moment when everything seemed perfectly aligned, mirroring the sensation of sunlight on the skin and the shared glances between two individuals. The experience is akin to the initial taste of a pear while immersed in a daydream, a desire to prolong the feeling, even as the day draws to a close.
