Philtre D’Ambre is Parfums Artimíque’s latest release and continues their journey with perfumer Cristiano Canali of Mane. With Philtre D’Ambre they take us by the hand and lead us into the night through the alleys and streets of old Venice. It’s also a move separating itself from the light playful summery trilogy of the first releases, Jasmin Gyokuro, Coconut Blanket and Shower & Smoke. This is signified by the design too, with Parfums Artimíque Philtre D’Ambre coming in a new matte black box, maybe this is the start of a new trilogy of perfumes? Philtre D’Ambre is a marvelous entrance into Parfums Artimíque’s enigmatic side.

Rich spices fill the air with a slightly charred smoke give Philtre D’Ambre a seductive dark opening. A deep rich honeyed rose blossoms in this spiced darkness with sweet citruses flickering like lights from candles on old city walls. A dusting of nutmeg gives age to this scene that unfolds around you as the perfume like the rose, blooms from your skin. Cristiano Canali has created a stunning Venetian lagoon accord that sketches out these old Venetian walls lapped and aged by salty sea water; you can smell this mineralic cool watery stone which plays as a beautiful counterpoint to the warm honey spiced rose. It’s both warm and cooling, like a soft sea breeze making you hold your lover closer as you walk through the small passages and cobbled streets of Venice as this scented adventure into the night unfolds.

There’s a quiet wildness from Mane’s Red Seaweed pure Jungle Essence, it’s feels prominent yet controlled, giving that little hint of mystery and excitement lingering at the edges of Parfums Artimíque Philtre D’Ambre like a glimmer of danger in your lovers eye. It’s also delicious, feeling like a sea-salted gourmand, I’m not sure quite what, but I want to taste it to know it fully. It makes Philtre D’Ambre addictive for me to smell. A subtle dry hay facet brings you back on the paths, with a hint of dankness in the dark again transporting you into the past. Yet those subtle delicious gourmand facets make it feel very contemporary; Cristiano Canali has cleverly composed Philtre D’Ambre with contrasting elements that intertwine in a stunning way. The rose grows dark with an alluring warmth from clove, it’s a sizzling dark spice that teases out more subtle and complex nuances. A soft smokiness rises from this spiced warmth with labdanum and myrrh forming a balsamic rich amber incense, that weaves and teases its way through the rose making its petals feel like soft velvet. Myrrh candies the rose, making it feel like a dark gem that you have stumbled upon as you wind through the dark alleys as your lover draws closer.

Philtre D’Ambre’s lush incense dry down wraps around you like a lover’s arms, its honey rose petals drape over you as this swirl of sweet kisses ranging from rich chocolate to playful fruity ones tease you in an intoxicating haze of incense smoke, feeling smooth yet packed full of complexity that pops out giving subtle variations through the wear. This perfume feels darkly luxurious, as deep chocolaty patchouli merges with a warm glow of tonka bean, giving the incense a delicious velvety sensation. Again, more of the beautiful Mane materials are on show with Orcanox©, Mane’s newest ambroxan variation, creating this super diffusive aura with gentle sweet musky almost furry warmth still humming with a light spice. Philtre D’Ambre is already packed with well-balanced rich materials. I love the soft fizz of the resins with a gentle vanillic sweetness giving a subtle allure to the dark, soft smoke haze. You can still feel the salt-licked stone of  the watery city, mise-en-scène, which smells addictive and alluring. It’s sexy and refined yet with incense smokiness, Philtre D’Ambre creates a mysterious dream-like feel of infinite space as new love unfolds around you lost in old city walls of Venice with the water lapping the stone beneath.

This new perfume from Parfums Artimíque is a beautiful and unique take on amber, the salty mineralic Venice Lagoon accord with the rich spiced resinous incense smoke feels addictive and luxurious, its warmth to feels enveloping yet airy making it a prefect amber incense to wear on a warm summer’s night. I’m excited to test this more in the cooler weather to see how it changes but Philtre D’Ambre is one not to miss.

Notes: Red Mandarin, Turkish Rose, Venice Lagoon inspired accord, Myrrh, Red Algae, Nutmeg, Cloves, Patchouli, Benzoin JE, Labdanum, Peru’ Balsam, Venetian Churches inspired accord.

  • The review vividly captures the fragrance’s warm, resinous character, describing it as a “golden elixir” that evokes an alchemical potion, blending amber, myrrh, and opoponax with a bright mandarin opening. This imagery makes the scent feel both mystical and inviting in my opinion. I live in Poland, EU.

Intersting amber! A fragrance full of light and shadow that tells the magic of a timeless story. I am from EU

  • LindenNoir says:

What I liked about J’s review is how he explained the balance between warmth and freshness in the scent. That contrast between the spiced rose and the cool mineral note from the lagoon accord really made sense — it gave me a clearer idea of what makes this amber different from others.

  • AromaAdventurer says:

I appreciated how J described the ingredients in context, not just as a list. For example, mentioning the use of Red Seaweed and how it adds this “controlled wildness” was helpful. It gave me an idea of the perfume’s texture and energy without being overly technical.

  • Lastochka says:

J did a great job showing how the fragrance unfolds over time. The way he broke it down from smoky spices to honeyed rose, then incense and patchouli helped me imagine the scent’s structure. It wasn’t flowery language for the sake of it, it actually gave me a sense of the perfume’s evolution.

  • FragranceFrenzyS says:

What stood out to me was the part about the salty stone note I’ve smelled similar effects before, but I liked how J tied it to a real place and feeling. It wasn’t just “Venice” for mood, he made it feel connected to the materials in the perfume. That gave the imagery more weight.

  • I liked that J talked about how the perfume feels modern even with all the classic amber and incense elements. The mention of gourmand touches and Orcanox adding a soft diffusion made me more curious to try it especially since it sounds like it walks the line between sensual and wearable.

This sounds very promising, thanks for highlighting this brand. Their Shower and Smoke is understated but addictive. I like the many juxtapositions in this review, and a salty, airy amber with dark enveloping touches sounds dreamy!

This bottle is beautiful that’s the first thing I noticed. Philtre D’ Amber’s sounds very sensual and alluring. I was not imagining a summer scent with the smoke and incense but was intrigued by the reviewer stating it was perfect for a warm summers night. I would’ve guessed by the notes it would be more suited for cold. Rose is such a beautiful note combined with a Venetian church accord note sounds sexy and mysterious. I am really interested in this scent. I also love that Venice is the inspiration. I am from Pennsylvania USA

  • DAISY PEREZ says:

I absolutely love this Amber fragrances. But these notes sound pretty intersting.
Red Mandarin, Turkish Rose, Venice Lagoon inspired accord, Myrrh, Red Algae, Nutmeg, Cloves, Patchouli, Benzoin JE, Labdanum, Peru’ Balsam, Venetian Churches. The Venetian Churches note takes me back to my child hood when i visited Rome and that smell walking in to the church. I would love to get my nose on this fragrance. I see it also has Myrrh and I absolutely love Myrrh.

  • Kensolfactoryodyssey says:

I was completely enchanted by J Wearescentient’s review—especially the way the Venice Lagoon accord was described. The idea of mineralic cool stone lapped by sea water as a counterpoint to a honeyed, spiced rose is both haunting and romantic. The duality of warmth and coolness, spice and sea, creates an olfactory chiaroscuro I can’t wait to experience. Cristiano Canali’s use of Mane materials like Red Seaweed Jungle Essence and Orcanox© really piqued my interest too—those textural contrasts feel like poetry in scent form. I live in usa and would love the chance to discover this mysterious amber dream

  • What I find most appealing about this fragrance, based on the review, is the smoky spices interwoven with the salty mineral accords that together evoke the damp waterways and old sacred spaces of Venice. I would love to be able to smell this! I am in USA.

hahaha this review feels very timely as i was just talking with my partner about their newfound love for smoke/incense notes in fragrance, which even overcame their usual dislike for several notes like clove/vanilla. i’m not terribly familiar with the realm of incense notes, so it’s a cool scent journey i’m excited to start!

philtre d’ambre sounds to me like it’s pretty novel– pairing aquatics and smoke? i think j’s invocation of venice seems perfect.. old fashioned resins and smoky amber, a slight salty splash from the seaweed essence (is that the venice lagoon accord? or maybe the red algae), and a classic spice blend of nutmeg and cloves…. yum! shower and smoke also seems fascinating… will have to check out the parfums artimique discovery kit later!

thanks for the write up! from USA

  • wallygator88 says:

Thanks for the great review J.

I really love the picture that this fragrance portrays. I’m just thinking about riding down these ancient Venice waterways, slowly taking in all the colors and the rich history, the smell on incense from the churches wafting over the water.

    Would love to sample this.

Thanks to J for this fantastic review.I adore fragrances that paint a vivid picture within our minds.Based on this, that’s the kind of fragrance that I would wear, with spiced honeyed rose, mineral Venice Lagoon inspired accord like soft see breeze and the soft smokiness of Labdanum & Myhrr! The Amber combined with the Peru Balsam giving a powerful balsamic-like scent that could give a boost of elegance and mistery to the fragrance. A night of elegance, sophistication and allure can only be accompanied by this creation. You paint such a vividly evocative picture that I feel like I can almost smell it right now!
This would be a delight to wear! Thanks for the chance.

  • I’m so intrigued by the notes, wonder how Venice Lagoon inspired accord or Venetian Churches inspired accord smells like!
Love how J describes it “This new perfume from Parfums Artimíque is a beautiful and unique take on amber, the salty mineralic Venice Lagoon accord with the rich spiced resinous incense smoke feels addictive and luxurious, its warmth to feels enveloping yet airy making it a prefect amber incense.”

  • Wearescentient [Really?] description took my further south by east to Dubrovnik’s Assumption Cathedral on an early October morning with the myrrh and labdanum — smoky, balsamic, like incense rising in a quiet chapel.

I’m in the States. Not entirely sure if we’re still United.

  • If there’s a chance that Artimique’s Philtre D’Ambre transport me to those water – kissed old Venetian walls, than this is a WIINER composition for me.

Thank you, J Wearescentient and Cafleurebon team – I recall a special night with my gf through the alleys and streets of old Venice, sipping an Espresso Martini right next to a canal – and of course our walk in Gondola … wearing all black elegant outfits!

  • This being described as a spicy, smoky, musky rose places this somewhere between Meo Fusciuni’s Little Song and Amouage Rose Incense in my mind which means this falls firmly into the category of being “My type”. The Venice lagoon accord added to this combination sets out firmly aside as it’s own thing in my head and I’d love to experience this as I am addicted to all things incense and am going through a big rose phase currently. I’m in the USA.

  • The counterposition between hot and cold sounds really exciting, with a warm honeyed rose note in contrast to mineral, sea salty rock. Just like Venice itself is cradled between the heat of Italian sun and the coolness of deep sea water, there seems to be a freshness in this fragrance, which is otherwise heated by spicy notes such as clove, nutmeg and resins like myrrh and labdanum. Also, the chocolatey patchouli closing the development sounds beautiful.
I have had the privilege to win the discovery set from Artimique here on Cafleurebon some time ago (loved Jasmin Gyokuro and Coconut Blanket!), and I would love to see how they also drift towards darker territory with this amber.

For me, amber-style fragrances are within top 5 of my favorite kind. The sweet, resinous or benzoic aspect they can have really shows the range they possess. This is the first time I hear about Parfums Artimique but if amber is my introduction to them, I’m liking it already. This feels like a trip to an old Italian church in Venice. Also what sets this one apart is the salt mineralic accord it contains, no other amber fragrance I can name drop has one. A truly unique experience to the wearer. I’m located in the US.

  • Well, nothing about this sounds pedestrian! Hook words for this fish are charred smoke, furry warmth, light spice, incense and that lagoon accord is right up my ally! Will be seeking out a sample!
    I live in the US.

  • I would love to win this perfume. I love amber fragrances (Ambra Aurea and Ambre Précieux are divine), even in summer. I have already worn three of Cristiano Canali’s perfumes that I loved: Bee, Romanza, Fundamental. He has remarkable talent. What I enjoyed reading in this article was: “It’s both warm and cooling, like a soft sea breeze making you hold your lover closer as you walk through the small passages and cobbled streets of Venice as this scented adventure unfolds into the night.” I live in France, EU

  • The red seaweed accord is what really gets me on this one. I anticipate an herbal and fresh jungle like quality to it. The sea like scent and the earthy and minerillic aura this gives us unique I wonder what the resinous and smoky facets are and how that plays off the overall fragrance. Would love to own this treat. From Jacksonville, NC.

  • Philtre D’Ambre sets out to be aesthetically pleasing from the matte black presentation box to the absolutely gorgeous bottle and cap. The spiced smoke opening with a heady Turkish rose heart pair beautifully with the Venetian lagoon inspiration. The venetian lagoon accord with its salty, mineralic aspects sounds fantastic for a sophisticated beach scent. Just lovely. MD, USA

  • Maastura bluesock says:

The description of dark refined feeling of this scent sounds do me. A chocolatly spicy darkness sounds interesting and I love incense smokiness. Incense always gives off dark Academia, refined and edgy. I am interested in trying the sample. I live in Florida US

  • I’ve yet to visit, see and experience Venice, but with Philtre d’Ambre, I feel like you don’t even need to go to Venice as Venice is coming to you! This sounds fun! Thanks! EU

  • Ooh now this sounds like it would be right up my alley!! I am completely intrigued by the clove and myrrh infused rose. That’s enough right there! But the sea salt gourmand note also sounds unique. Yes I would definitely love to try this. I am located in the U.S.

  • Patricia R. says:

It is the most accurate notes and intentions of what Venice represents – roses, balsam, churches, lagoon algae, spices. I live in the EU.

  • J’s review of Philtre D’Ambre transported me instantly — I could almost feel the salty Venetian air and the soft pull of candlelight on damp stone. I’m especially intrigued by how Cristiano Canali balanced honeyed rose with seaweed, incense, and that mineralic lagoon accord. It sounds like a perfume that blends intimacy and mystery, warmth and coolness — like a whispered secret passed between lovers in the alleys of Venice. I love deep ambers and complex resinous scents, and this one sounds like something truly addictive and unforgettable. I live in France and would love to discover it.

  • Philtre D’Ambre immediately draws me in with its smoky spices and deep honeyed rose. The contrast between the warm, spiced floral heart and the cool, mineralic Venetian lagoon accord is truly captivating. It feels like walking through moonlit Venetian alleys, wrapped in scent and mystery. Definitely one I want to explore further.

  • J’s review really stood out to me because he broke down the unique harmony of warmth and freshness in the fragrance. The way he described the spiced rose playing off the crisp, aquatic lagoon note helped me understand why this amber stands apart—it’s like a dance between fire and water. Such a vivid breakdown! Sending good vibes from NYC 🙂

  • I really enjoyed reading your review. I’m a big fan of amber, incense, and labdanum, so your description of the rich, smoky warmth really spoke to me. The way you described the honeyed rose wrapped in spices and incense sounds absolutely stunning. I especially loved your note about the myrrh candies the rose. Definitely one I’ll be checking out soon.

  • Ooh lagoon accord…I don’t think that’s something I’ve ever seen listed before. I have never been to Venice, but do enjoy the picture this creates. I’m most intrigued by the “velvet sensation” as described in the review; I love when perfumes evoke different fabrics to me. USA

  • Really interesting composition combining a range of dark notes, heavily layered, and Canali’s “Venetian lagoon accord”. The juxtaposition of wet stone and sweet spiced rose is both an impressive feat of balance and a distinct thematic identity for Philtre D’Ambre. The smoky incense and amber hold those ideas together. Really cool fragrance.

I’m not exactly sure where it is my mind is wandering to when reading this review, but it’s a far off place full of excitement and sensuality. Someplace I want to visit, or perhaps live for a brief while. As a lover of amber centric fragrances, this one might be up there in my favorites, I’d have to experience her firsthand before making such a call. Loving the note breakdown and would be ecstatic at winning a bottle. I live in Oregon.

  • This is quite an interesting combination of notes. It sounds bright in the opening, yet so alluring and rich with all the notes of spices and labdanum. I’ve never heard of this perfume house before. Their selection of scents are quite breathtaking. I’d be thrilled to have this be part of my collection. I love anything that has even the slightest hint of rose in it.

    I live in the US.

  • What captivates me about Philtre d’Ambre is its evocative portrayal of a Venetian night—where the warmth of honeyed rose and clove intertwines with a smoky, balsamic amber. The inclusion of Mane’s Red Seaweed Jungle Essence adds a subtle marine nuance, creating a sea-salted gourmand facet that’s both mysterious and addictive. Cristiano Canali’s composition masterfully balances these contrasting elements, crafting a fragrance that feels both timeless and contemporary.

Great article J. While I have not yet heard of this house, because of your review, I am now familiar. It also encouraged me to check out their website. Between J’s thorough depiction of this scent and their website description, “In the 13th-century Venice, the city was a labyrinth of winding canals and narrow alleys, where the scent of balsams, resins and spices filled the air with enveloping and sensual/intriguing notes.” I’m looking forward to getting this on skin.
