Spooky fragrances for Halloween

Halloween is only two weeks away (October 31) so we get into the spirit with three spooky fragrances for Halloween, with darker more mysterious vibes. Steven Gavrielatos of Redolessence and Michelyn Camen, Editor-in-Chief of ÇaFleureBon co-curated three Spooky Fragrances For Halloween 2024.

Azman Perfumes Killer Vavoom (Miguel Matos): Imagine you are at a Halloween party and someone dressed up as a vampire asks you to dance. Their hypnotic eyes mesmerize you and their lips whisper words drenched in honey as they hold you in a  musky leather embrace. You have had a bit to drink, so your guard is down and after the dance you leave the party with a stranger with fangs holding a blood red rose. Where are you going? You don’t care…you are under the spell of Killer Vavoom. It is our number one choice of our three spooky fragrances for Halloween. – Michelyn

What is Halloween without a little haunting? Throw a log on the fireplace as you listen to ghost stories and spritz on Martin Margiela Replica by the Fireplace. The spooky Halloween perfume is spicy with pink pepper and clove with chestnut at its crackling heart. -Michelyn

Navitus Parfums Arcanum (Jorge Lee with creative direction from Steven): Meaning “mystery” or “secret,” Arcanum blends cinnamon with a medley of mysterious and enigmatic resins, incense, oud with intoxicating vanilla and tonka bean. Give us the night!-Steven and Michelyn

Disclosure: Replica by the Fireside from our own collection, Killer Vavoom previously gifted and Navitus courtesy of the brand to Steven

  • Loved both Michelyn’s written review and Steven’s video on the 3 Spooky Fragrances for Halloween 2024! Michelyn totally captured the haunting vibe with Killer Vavoom—I could almost feel the leather and musk as if I were right there dancing with a vampire! The imagery was perfect. And I absolutely agree that Replica by the Fireside is a must for chilly Halloween nights—spicy warmth, ghost stories, and a fireplace? Yes, please!

Steven’s breakdown of Arcanum was on point—he made me want to bathe in oud and resins with that mysterious twist. The way he describes the balance between cinnamon, incense, and vanilla is so enticing. Honestly, I want all three in my collection now. Perfect spooky lineup for the season!

  • The standout opinions of Arcanum were the darkness and mystery of the scent…for a night of mischief and magic from Michelyn’s review of Arcanum and Steve agrees about the dark, mystery ambience of Arcanum, which suits the witching hour and all things spooky, or a cozy fall winter night. This scent being a personal favorite for him because of his involvement creation.

Being wrapped in the arms of a vampire that smells like leather was an interesting and humorous description; but I’d like to know what that smells like 🙂

  • theSCENTguy says:

I really like the variety of the fragrances which all in their own way capture the theme of Halloween quite nicely. Definitely would love to try Arcanum!

  • Ramses Perez says:

This is the first time I hear about the house of Azman Perfumes Killer Vavoom and reading it has honey and leather, we’re in for a sweet Halloween treat. Navitus Parfums Arcanum gives the more incensy and heavy take of the 3 presented here and it’s very dark and mysterious like Steven mentioned. By The Fireplace is a staple from the house of Maison Margiela and gives you the sensation of sitting by the Fireplace waiting for the kids to come by and trick or treat. The chestnut note giving to the idea of chestnuts roasting on an open fire. 3 different but also all very appropriate to wear on Halloween. Oh, and can’t forget to have some chocolates too. I’m located in the USA.

  • Never tried any of these fragrances but Arcanum is the one I would try if I had the opportunity. Thanks

  • Ooh that is a generous give away! And great Autumn choices. Steven is always good about little details like longevity which some folks are concerned about. And Michelyn gives us the vibe. All of these sound lovely. I am in California.

  • Michelyn’s review was vey thorough and had a lot of interesting info
Steven’s review was dynamic and engaging. I live in Trzebnica Poland EU

  • What a great read! I almost smelled the fragrances from the story you told! They all sound so good! The drawing is on my birthday it would be awesome to win a give away! I’ve been wanting by the fireplace for some while now.
Steven I love your reviews I always watch your videos before I buy a fragrance! Thank you for the opportunity!

  • jessica.rauch says:

What a fun theme! I love it how Steven described 3 different fragrances that were dark in ambiance and Michelyn brought that ambiance to life! I love the description of dancing with a stranger with fangs, fireside fragrances and mystery! Makes me so excited for Halloween themed fragrances!

  • David Furman says:

I love oud and the different depths and dimensions it comes and goes in. This having it in the base makes me smile and I know Navitus uses higher grade ingredients and this probably pops off of skin. All those deep and dark facets make for a mysterious and alluring enigma. Would love to own this bad boy and set myself apart from everyone else. From Jacksonville, NC

  • AromaDulce73 says:

Nice review of these Spookey Fragrances by both Michelyn & Steven. Great picks for the Fall. Navitus Arcanum would be my personal pick out of the 3 so I’m glad it’s actually the giveaway, “mystery” in a bottle.

I have By the Fireplace and it’s one of my favorites in my collection. Never heard of Killer Vavoom but leather and rose is not really my cup of tea.

Steven describes Arcanum beautifully, maybe because he is involved with the house but I’m sold on it whether I win it on here or not.

  • Halloween is the perfect time to embrace darker, mysterious scents, and I love the choices in this list! Killer Vavoom sounds like it’s dripping with intrigue, capturing that seductive, eerie charm of Halloween nights. By the Fireside brings warmth and spice, making it feel like you’re telling ghost stories by the hearth. And Arcanum’s blend of oud, vanilla, and resins sounds downright intoxicating. This curation makes me excited to explore each fragrance and immerse myself in their spooky, evocative atmospheres this season. Steve really took us on a journey with his review!

  • I use my “darker” scents not only during the colder weather but when I need an introvert moment. All the spooky scents sound like amazing “fold into oneself” cozy moments of energizing solitude. And Arcanum adds cinnamon, a favorite spice for this time of year. It’s exciting that Steven helped to create this one and the nuclear lasting power certainly doesn’t hurt. And per Michelyn, Arcanum means “mystery” or “secret”. It matters. Thank you for this opportunity; I live in NY.

  • Michelyn’s description of Killer Vavoom really brought that fragrance to life. I would love to smell it. And I loved Steven’s description of Arcanum. I love a dark and spicy fragrance.

  • Michelyn correlates the 3 fragrances with the Halloween’s spirit while Steven points out the caratheristics of each one: they made me curious about Arcanum because it has incense and it’s misterious and also about the darkness of Killer Vavoom. Also By the Foreplace is perfect for autumn, I’ve smelled it recently.

  • Great reviews by both Michelin and Steven. Michelyns review of Killer Vavoom is really apt for Halloween Honey, Rose, Musk and Leather. Steven described the balance between Cinnamon, Vanilla and Oud. And by the fireplace just conjures up holidays memories especially the chestnut accord. Thanks a lot from the UK

  • Killer Vavoom just sets the tone perfectly for Halloween especially the way Michelyns description of dancing with a Vampire the leather, musks, honey and roses just adds depth and mystery. By the fireplace just feels like a cozy fragrance with spices and chestnut accord. Steven description of the Oud, resins and vanilla just conjures up holiday memories. Thanks a million from the UK

  • ianbradleyandrews says:

Michelyn makes by the fire place seem like the perfect comforting autumn scent. Steve review was great as he describes all aspect of the perfume including performance. Love his reviews. I’d love to win by the fireplace and live in Indiana.

  • Oh dear. Leaving a party tipsy with a fanged stranger? :S That’s one way to make the missing persons list. I have to agree with Arcanum though. Easily in my top 3 from the brand since it’s essentially a smokier (and better) version of PdM’s Herod. Not quite as dark as Steven mentioned imo, but with a great balance to the sweetness. BTF a pretty standard autumnal choice for years, but despite not being a fan of the scent anymore, it’s still a very decent one to layer with. Like Steven, I prefer it over autumn vibes since that one was a bit of a flop. Need to be careful with those aroma chems. Yet to try Killer Vavoom, but I do love the name. Sounds like a large and dangerous school bus. LOL A very happy Halloween to everyone. CAN

  • Steven’s Arcanum sounds wonderful for fall, and I think he mentioned coconut as a note in his review? I would love a firepit in my backyard, so instead I’ll try MM By The Fireplace. And killer vavoom’s vampire and leather vibes sounds perfect for Halloween. I would def wear that whole handing out candy to the kids and admiring their costumes! Thank you for the cool scents and the draw! I’m in the us

  • Thank you for both reviews. Killer Vavoom sounds so captivating….the image Michelyn conjures was so spooky sexy and Steven’s discussion of the chocolate and iris notes also intrigued me. Also loved Steven’s description of Arcanum. I actually enjoy this time of year as nighfall comes earlier and his discussion of its dark and mysterious quality sounds perfect. I have not been a big fan of Repica but by the Fireside might be one to change my mind. USA

  • I love the image of dancing with someone you think is just in costume as a vampire but they turn out to be a real vampire! I need to smell whatever that experience would smell like! I wouldn’t expect it to have Iris, vanilla and Chocolate, but I guess I don’t know that much about dancing with vampires! The video reviews were especially inspiring and have me ready to smell spooky!

  • Fall and winter are my favorite season for fragrances because I love the dark, spicy, and heavy scents the most. The trio featured here certainly seems to check all those boxes perfectly. I have tried By the Fireplac,e and like Michelyn said, the spicy chestnut heart is wonderful. I’ve been wanting to try Killer Vavoom, but keep forgetting to order samples. I’ve seen it lauded on here several times and with both Michelyn and Steven naming it as their #1 pick for spooky season, it must work some real magic. Arcanum is the only one I have not heard of until today. I’m a big fan of resins and incense so I have a feeling I’d probably love it. Steven heralded its dark aura, and that has definitely piqued my interest. Best of luck to all. I live in NC, USA.

  • I enjoy wearing seasonal fragrances and Michelyn and Steven chose three great ones representing “spooky season”. Halloween based scents should be dark and mysterious with indolic florals, spice, leathers and earthy notes. Arcanum fits the dill with resins, spiced incense and earthy oud. Steven mentions the oud centric nature of the scent with the spice and vanilla balancing out the composition. MD, USA.

  • madamepeace says:

These 3 fragrances seem to perfectly capture components of the spooky season in different ways. Azman’s Killer Vavoom sounds like the costumed villain that is dashingly handsome and so allures you with his charm. By the Fireplace represents the ambience and warmth of what we love so much about this time of year in finding a way to rest into coziness throughout this season, and then of course this Navitus Arcanum just sounds like the most mysterious kind of resinous incense that you pay an arm and a leg to purchase at that metaphysical shop down the street to light the right kind of scented vibes to get the mood going, sexy but also spooky at the same time. What a lineup! So curious about Arcanum’s resinous mystique! From Portland, OR.

  • FragranceIsMe says:

Great reviews by both Michelyn and Steven. I have the pleasure of owning both Azman Killer Vavoom and Maison Margiela By The Fireplace and truly enjoy both. While I own 11 Navitus fragrances, Arcanum, is one that I’ve yet to get my nose on. However, after these reviews, my interest has been piqued.

  • I always love to see people’s recommendations for Halloween! It’s subjective but always interesting. Michelyn’s intro made me very intrigued to see what Steven had to say and now I’m REALLY wanting to try the Arcanum. Gothic, incensey smoky dark? Dark mysterious is perfect for this time of year. I adore Halloween and all the festivities that go with it! By the Fireplace is another cozy for Autumn scent that I have already and agree that it’s a lovely one to go with Fall. Killer Vavoom is going to go onto my Must Try list. I adore Michelyn’s pairing it with costume imagery: it gives it more shape than a list of notes, as does Steven’s description of warmth and sensuality.

  • Gladys Rivera Marietti says:

The darkness of the incense and resins sorrounded by vanilla and tonka calls my name with this Navitus Parfum.

  • Eris.can.swatch.kaos says:

I love this list, as someone whose perfum collection is quite modest, I love getting to know new to me scents. This is my favorite time of year all around, from the foliage change, to the fragrance rotation, I just adore fall. Thank you for the opportunity to win! I am a Redolessence subscriber. I live in Oregon.

  • I love the idea of the Navitus.
Sounds like it should smell like a fall night.
    Can’t wait to smell.
    Hope to win.
    Thanks for the giveaways.

  • Michael Prince says:

I loved Michelyn’s written reviews and Steven’s video review of 3 Spooky Fragrances for Halloween 2024. Azman Parfums Killer Vavoom sounds really dark and mysterious and steven describes it as being the perfect headspace for the Fall season with its Chocolate, Vanilla, and Iris. Michelyn describes the darker musky leather and Rose experience. I love By The Fireplace the cozy warming Chesnut, Vanilla, and the smoky undertones that is perfect for this time of year. Navitus Parfums Arcanum sounds amazing as well. Jorge Lee is a brilliant Perfumer the warm Cinnamon, resinous incense, Oud, and intoxicating Vanilla sounds divine. I am from the USA.

  • I’m familiar with 2 of the 3 you recommend. I have always loved By the Fireplace. And Navitus Arcanum IS fantastic for a spooky, autumn themed fragrance! I bought it for my boyfriend in the travel size. It’s one of his favorites! Steven describes it perfectly, focusing on that oud note that ties the spices and vanilla together.

I looked up Killer Vavoom and can easily see why it made your list. I imagine the drydown pulls that leather note, making it dark and mysterious.

    I live in the USA.

  • ☆ AZMAN is a special brand , already famous in the fragrance community, and I believe will make a lot more noise in the upcoming years. Killer Vavoom is unique , sweet and leathery i agree , and it actually kind of reminds me of the cake I’m Chocolate Ganache Cake, with Macerated Plums , and sone suede leather.
☆ Martin Margiela By The Fireplace .
Smoky chestnuts, burning fireplace and caramelized vanilla. Unlike Michelyn Camen cloves i barely smell, maybe faintly in the opening.
    ☆ Navitus Parfums Arcanum
Jorge Lee career is remarkable, he cooked so many successful and beautiful fragrances for multiple brands, including Serenade from Navitus, favorite of mine.
Steven and Michelyn take on the Arcanum made me think of making and later on eating Cinnamon Spice Coconut Cake , with burning incense cons next to me.
Appreciate the hard work, and the spooky giveaway campaign

  • I’m always ready for sensual, deep and rich Spooky fragrances done right ✅
Killer Vavoom i sample together with Majnoon, exactly like Michelyn said musky and leathery, and with honey , decadent chocolate and plum , perfume for grown-ups
By the Fireplace is a good smoky , spicy and sweet fragrance but performance is below average on my skin.
Coziness, positive emotions , romantic occasions all are part of the festive sensation coming from Navitus Parfums Arcanum.
The fragrance is so well blended with resins, oud , vanilla and some coconut touches . As far as I’m concerned it checks all the boxes, I’ll gladly wear it on dates, parties or concerts.
Since I’m a vain person I’d like to say that Jorge Lee’s Navitus Vivamor is one of the most complicated fragrances in my collection
    Exciting giveaway , USA
    Regards

  • Great list for Halloween! Michelyn’s blurbs are a lot of fun—really getting into the spirit of Spooky Season. The only one of these three I’ve tried is Replica by the Fireplace. Steven described it exactly how it wears for me, though it is fairly linear, and his comments made me want to pull out my sample this week. I’m intrigued by the cinnamon and resins combination in Arcanum and the red rose note in Killer Vavoom.

    I’m in the USA.

  • Michelyn and Steven took us all to a Spooky journey today , with their suggestions
Killer Vavoom , the florals are not so noticeable,
the prunes and chocolate are so beautiful, the iris too. It’s interesting how both contributors never said anything about the strong boozy feel i get from Killer Vavoom ?!?
Haven’t smelled MM By the Fireplace for years, spicy sweet with lots of smoke
Navitus Parfums Arcanum is like a trip to Sahara, with incense, oud and vanilla. It’s also made by a genius like Jorge Lee
    Thank you for the opportunity
    USA

  • Spooky yet wearable high-end recommendations
I love the complexity of AZMAN Killer Vavoom, it’s leathery , musky with delicious dark chocolate. Good example how a classy leather fragrance should smell.
Haunting by throwing a log in the pit , and a few sprays of By The Fireplace
Wow at all the famous names working on fragrances for Navitus, Jorge Lee is a famous perfumer for a good reason and now thanks to Michelyn and Steven I’m so pumped for Arcanum. Cinnamon with resins, incense, oud and vanilla, sounds fantastic
Thank you Michelyn , Steven , Navitus
    USA

  • All 3 fragrances and good and a bit spooky in their own right .
In Killer Vavoom I like the gourmand and lustful contrasts between the rose , iris , leather and the chocolate. Pure seduction in a bottle
I think Martin Margiela By The Fireplace is more smoky than spicy and sweet, it is spooky though
I really like how Navitus Parfums Arcanum is made by such a great, and accomplished perfumer like Jorge Lee, with Steven’s creative direction , thanks for the info . I’d love to win the fragrance because of the delicious gourmand , woody and spicy aspects , comforting cold weather fragrance.
Navitus Aubade (Lyrik) , The Embrace and Navus are the 3 Navitus Parfums fragrances I own , and I’d love to win Arcanum
    Thanks for the draw

  • I was playing with my niece yesterday, and your “Spooky” theme made me think of “Halloween Freeze Dance Song” is a popular Halloween theme song for preschoolers. The song is based on the classic freeze dance game, where children dance to the music and freeze when the music stops 🙂
Killer Vavoom is a fantastic fragrance, almost like a forbidden fruit , and daring and alluring. I don’t get jasmine or rose at all, but I do get both the peachy and leathery aspects of the saffron , chocolate and rose.
By the Fireplace is a fire pit and over burned marshmallows
Navitus Parfums Arcanum is mostly a tobacco fragrance to me , with incense, oud and coconut
    All profiles I already follow , @waltherp99bg
    Thanks a lot
    USA

  • * …. of the saffron, chocolate and rose .
Iris is what I actually meant , and not rose , I’m sorry.
