Primordial waters (the first signs of life on earth) a term taken from Jules Verne’s writing of ‘Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea’ was the inspiration Founder Arnaud Poulain set in motion when inventing Les Eaux Primordiales. His dream was envisioned as a return to his roots close to Arras in northern France, a place where nature and industry intertwine. The design of the flacons was directly taken and shaped from the heritage he grew up with which combines both art and science. From the angular cube shaped cap to the lush curves of the body of the bottle, there is a duality of structure versus creative freedom to bring to life Arnaud Poulain’s olfactive dream.

Arnaud Poulain collaborated with his mentor Amelie Bourgeois to create the Superfluide Collection, which is centered around intense, warm and resinous notes.  The name Superfluide encapsulates the sense of these fragrances beautifully. In the case of Les Eaux Primordiales Ambre Superfluide one can sense the flow of the perfume, there are no rough edges to my nose. The initial spritz is a lush blend of herbal, spicy and gourmand notes with a slightly metallic experience. This is why it is important to simply enjoy this perfume rather than unpick each element. I expected a dense, thick fragrance and that could not be further from the truth. There is a subtlety and airiness to it, whilst still harnessing the power of benzoin, tobacco and black vanilla.

To me the heart of the scent is where its magic lies. The combination of a light rose the fresh and bright balsam with cardamom is a stroke of genius. These notes function as a perfect bridge between the initial zesty crisp apple, sweet honey and cinnamon and the slightly boozy rum and deep amber base notes. As a result, there is so much happening at once one minute verdant the next sugary Les Eaux Primordiales Ambre Superfluide is a scent which wraps itself gently around the wearer and brings people closer to you. It is marketed as more of a winter scent, apple cinnamon pie and gingerbread wafting into one’s nose. The interweaving of tobacco and rum is a comforting aroma. It is much more versatile than that; with its brightness and floral tonality Ambre Superfluide could be worn all year round. Even in summer as it is airy not cloying.

Superfluide Amber by Les Eaux Primordiales

Les Eaux Primordiales Ambre Superfluide is a polished perfume with great likeability. A staple for a collection, which acts as a wonderful transitional scent between seasons. Arnaud Poulain and Amelie Bourgeois of Flair Paris are a team to keep an eye on in the next year as I can see this fragrance house going from strength to strength.

That note pyramid is so satisfying. There is a lot going on here so I don’t know where to begin but what I expect is a slightly gourmand, oriental style fragrance done right. Opens spicy and herbal but then sweetens up and drys down to a smooth ride. Vanilla and tobacco are two staples in the basenotes of fragrances and here I’m sure it balances out the composition making it cozy and comforting. Not only to the western but those around them. Would love to try for myself. From Jacksonville, NC.

  • This is an amazing scent! The apple, tobacco, and rum are incredibly cozy and delectable, and the musks they use in the base of this one really give it a lot of heft and it sticks around all day. Best of luck to all you UK folks. You will love it!

A beautiful description by Karl all the notes sound amazing warm and cozy. The versatility and the fact that this is not cloying really sound appealing. This is a house that I have got no experience but I am intrigued by nonetheless. Thanks a lot from the UK

  • Notes: Honey, apple, cinnamon, sesame, bergamot, rose, cardamom, fir balsam, amber, vanilla, tobacco, rum, benzoin. The notes just sound symptoms especially honey, apple, cinnamon, sesame and vanilla in particular. I am a gourmand lover and sounds like something right up my street. The versatility and the fact this this isn’t cloying is testament to the perfumers. Thanks a million from the UK

Thank you Karl for highlighting Les Eaux Primordiales.Ambre Superfluide sounds delicious gourmand but more complex.

  • This is a very easy comment to make, as I have smelled Ambre Superfluide before, so I 100% agree with Karl in that the heart is what sets AS apart from fragrances that many people compare it to. The balsam and rose in the heart, while they are subtle, add a touch of refinement, a touch of class, and just a hint of subdued calmness to what is still a sweet and beautiful scent.

  • The slight metallic edge of Ambre Superfluide is an interesting spin on the genre, made even more interesting by the overall “subtlety and airiness” despite focusing on benzoin, tobacco, and black vanilla. The heart also sounds engagingly complex. This will really sing in the cooler weather when the warmth and spice will stand up to the chill.

    I’m in the USA.

Super interesting notes, especially the movement from apple pie to rose cardamom and the warm base with fir balsam, amber and black vanilla.

I would love to get my nose on this.
