Badar Parfums is a new French house that beautifully combines the rich history of French haute perfumery with the intricate nuances of Arab perfumery, creating a captivating blend of tradition and modernity. Estelle, the first release from Badar is composed by Flair perfumer  Margaux LE PAIH-GUÉRIN, you can read her brilliant young perfumer interview here.

Badar Parfums Estelle is a stunning way to launch this new house, capturing that contemporary French feel that references the past and present of perfumery, while giving us a delicious rich white musk that speaks to Arabian perfumery traditions.

Sophia Coppola’s 2006 film Marie Antoinette kept popping in to my head while wearing Estelle. That delicious and sensual powdery honeyed feel Badar Parfums Estelle  conjures the rich make-up and opulent clothing of the film, while the contemporary soundtrack mixed with period imagery shares that blurring of times capturing the past and present simultaneously, but its one shot in particular coming to mind. A short shot of shoes being tried on; just behind the action just off centre is a pair of purple Converse. It’s a completely jarring image in the film, taking you out of the past while also giving you a contemporary relatable context for how this young queen is feeling. This was extra B-Roll shots, filmed by Sophia’s brother Roman, which she liked so much she kept in the film, even though continuity wise it breaks the timelines, but conceptually gives us a beautiful bridge from the past to the contemporary. Margaux LE PAIH-GUÉRIN does something similar here for me with that nod to the golden age of perfumery with the opulent resinous amber, while wrapping Estelle in a very contemporary gourmand feel.

Powdery candied plums have this delicious sensuality with an elegant coolness from heliotrope and musks creating a soft and delicate aura. Slowly, that beautiful deep richness of plum transitions into a darkly sweet intensity reminiscent of organic wild honey. Warm resinous floral tonalities surround a caramelised golden gooey honey glow that feels like the suns warmth has been trapped in Estelle’s amber essence. The heliotrope conjures sugared almonds, but here they’re coated in a soft powder rather than their usual smooth shell, as if that smooth feeling has melted into a sensation fluffy luxury. Badar Parfums Estelle’s textures ooze with sensuality as if soft powdery clouds are caressing your nose with enveloping you in a caramel honeyed aroma. It’s almost like powdered pollen lightly applied to your skin, with some dark facets making the golden light shine brighter. This soft powdery pollen effect gives Estelle a touch of a vintage feel, the heliotrope too makes me think of Guerlain’s classic “blue” perfumes Après L’Ondee and L’Heure Bleue but rather than wallowing in the ennui of the past, Badar Parfums Estelle glows with the brightness of the future, letting its plummy, honey fun side shine bright.

There’s a labdanum absolute I’ve bought called “Honey Sweet”, Estelle reminds me of it, as the darker facets it holds that are rolled back letting this delicious resin shine with a darker, fig like honeyed feel haunted by echoes of red wine, its gentle purr is softer that the usual labdanum, capturing that slight animalic sexuality that haunts honey. Soft smoky facets thicken up the feel of the powdery pollen fur that you’re wearing, letting dark woody undertones hint at leather accents, giving a few subtle edges to this powdery elegance. Again I’m reminded of scenes from Sophie Coppola’s Marie Antoinette. All that powdery skin and opulence with a contemporary elegance, all the parts before her fall, the fun and food all those scenes of happiness surrounded by her friends and lovers, Badar Parfums Estelle has that feel of golden happiness.

Vanilla ups the powdery feel bringing in hints of soft blonde woods; imagine soft shavings floating in the air, slowly landing in the powdery pollen glow. The darker elements again play with darkness and light, giving the plum a place to stew in the heart as subtle smoky nuances grow beneath the glow, with that plumminess teasing out a new fleshy sensuality. White musks and molecules give Estelle a voluptuous feel; adding soft layers to be stripped back to reveal all these subtle powdery woody gourmand delights. Badar Parfums Estelle is a honeyed powdery new gold dream with its soft smoky darkness wrapping you in a vintage allure. This is gorgeous to wear! Margaux LE PAIH-GUÉRIN is very skilled at composing delicious perfumes. Let them eat candied plum, dripping in caramel and golden honey.

The creative director behind Badar is also a perfumer; I own a few perfumes by him and I’m very excited to see how his creative collaborations with other noses will develop in the future. This is a house to watch!

Notes: Heliotrope, Candied plum, honey, cistus essence, benzoin absolute, pyrogenic styrax essence, modern woods, white musks, guaiac wood essence, cypriol essence, vanilla, caramel, ambroxan.

Disclosure: Badar Parfums Estelle was sent to J for review, thoughts and nose are his own.

Is it just me or is Margaux Le Paih-Guérin slowly becoming the new gourmand queen? I know this one doesn’t go full on gourmand by the nuances are there. From her work with the house of Sora Dora to now working with Badar Parfums she is definitely one to watch out for! I love the idea of Badar combining French and Arab culture to create new fragrances as France and Arabic cultures have become symbiotic of each other and it’s ingrained now in the culture. Estelle sounds like my kind of fragrance (I love sweet fragrances) and the combination of honey, vanilla and caramel is a match made in heaven. The feeling of this fragrance kinda gives me Manuka honey vibes as it has its animalic touches but it’s a very realistic and even bitter at times. This is how you launch a house! Cheers from the USA.

J’s review of Badar Parfums Estelle has sparked my interest in the captivating blend of traditional and modern elements, especially the way Margaux LE PAIH-GUÉRIN marries rich, resinous amber with contemporary gourmand notes. The imagery of powdery candied plums and a honeyed aroma evokes a luxurious, sensual experience that feels both vintage and innovative. Additionally, the comparison to the opulent, yet contemporary essence of Sophia Coppola’s *Marie Antoinette* adds a fascinating layer of allure to the fragrance.

My first love was perfume from french house. As I got older I fell for arab Perfumes. I live for this mix, this is what I want to see. Citrus and vanilla, yess. Im from eu

  • The fragrance features a blend of heliotrope, confit plum, honey, cistus essence, benzoin absolute, and styrax pyrogen essence in the heart notes. This combination promises a rich, sweet, and slightly smoky aroma which must be absolutely wonderful. I live in Trzebnica, Poland, EU.

  • Another gourmand from Margaux LE PAIH-GUÉRIN that sounds delectable and thoughtfully blended. The opulent resinous amber based supported by contemporary gourmand notes sounds fresh. I’m particularly interested in the candied plums combined with powdery vanilla and honey. I completely understand the reference to the candied confection of the Coppola Marie Antoinette film. • I have never tried a perfume created by Margaux LE PAIH-GUERIN, but I love honey and labdanum like in Oajan de Parfum de Marly and Ambre Narguilé by Hermès. My favorite labdanum scent is Ambra Aurea by Profumum Roma and my favorite honey scent is Or du sérail by Naomi Goodsir. I like the following quote: “This soft powdery pollen effect gives Estelle a vintage touch, the heliotrope also makes me think of the classic “blue” perfumes of Guerlain After L’Ondee and L’Heure Bleue but rather than wallowing in the boredom of the past, Estelle de Badar Parfums shines with the luminosity of the future, letting her plum and honey side shine.” What I hope is that Margaux is good enough that her honey doesn’t smell like cat pee…I live in France, EU.

  • I was immediately captivated by J’s eloquent review of Badar Parfums Estelle. The intricate blend of contemporary French and Arabian perfumery traditions, combined with Margaux LE PAIH-GUÉRIN’s masterful composition, creates an olfactory experience that seems truly extraordinary. The evocative descriptions of powdery candied plums, darkly sweet organic wild honey, and soft smoky facets paint a vivid picture of a fragrance that seamlessly bridges the past and present. I’m always on the lookout for scents that tell a story, and Estelle seems like a beautiful narrative captured in a bottle. I would be thrilled to experience this golden happiness firsthand.

So exciting to learn about a completely new house I’ve never heard of. And on top of that it’s a heliotrope powdery floral with plums and honey. I also love Après L’Ondee and L’Heure Bleue which this one seems to remind of, so I’m excited to try it! Cheers from Illinois, US.

  • The part that really sparked my interest based on J’s review is this; “Badar Parfums Estelle’s textures ooze with sensuality as if soft powdery clouds are caressing your nose with enveloping you in a caramel honeyed aroma. It’s almost like powdered pollen lightly applied to your skin, with some dark facets making the golden light shine brighter.”

I love the comparison to the film mentioned, and can see how on could be inspired. The description here leads to longing and an overall sense of sensuality. I’d love to try this fragrance based on review. I live in Oregon.

  • I think the description of the scent was really good, had my eye on Estelle since they launched the brand so read a few reviews and this clearly is the best description I’ve read so far.
Easy to visualize how the scent is.

    Posting from Sweden 🙂

  • I personally love older complex scents, and then to take that concept and somehow make it more modern without losing that nod to the past is extraordinary. In maryland.

  • I went to Margaux LE PAIH GUÉRIN essay to get me up to speed with her journey and I’m glad she has both her heart in her work, and her work in her heart, that’s why she’s so successful at her age. Not yet familiar with her work but dreaming big is a must for every self driven person, young perfumer like Margaux LE PAIH GUÉRIN or a barber like me . The based on creativity approach i like a lot no , doubt great things are in the store for her .
French feel mixed with Arabian perfumery traditions, candied powdery plums , organic raw honey, fluffy sensual luxury and the dark resinous facets are giving Badar Parfums Estelle an unique contemporary spin , according to J Wearescentient the fragrance has that feel of golden happiness.

  • Candied plum and honey….yeah that sounds good and I want all parts of that lol. J also mentions a powdery aspect to this as well that I would love to smell with that vanilla.

  • Oh my goodness this perfume sounds as if it was made for me!! I love plum and heliotrope and the way this is described …. Oh my!!! I have not tried anything from Ms.Margaux yet either. I am grateful for the chance to win. I am in U.S.

  • The notes sound droolable, but the repitiion of the golden pollen feel is really what catches me: I love that kind of thing! I live in the US.

Thanks for the lovely writeup J.

This sounds like the perfect plot for an East meets the West play. I like the play of the gourmand notes with the dark woodier, almost oudy notes in the bottom.

I am curious about this one only by seeing the first three notes – heliotrope, candied plum, honey. Throw in some vanilla and caramel and you already have something really interesting going on! Thanks!

  • I am wishing them all the best to Badar Parfums! Estelle seems indeed a stunning way for this new house launch. The fragrance seems very promising, I love everything around vanilla!

Great review! I love the way you compared this to the film and the juxtaposition of classic and modern. I really love a good honey note and this sounds so interesting, mixing French and Arabic, current and past. The notes also sound wonderful! Thank you for the draw, from the US.

Ms. Margaux at it once again. She’s on a roll. After reading up on her background and how she draws inspiration from daily life she’s light on her as a whole. I first heard of her in the Sora Dora giveaway. This seems like a floral and sweet bouquet done right. Never experienced fig as a note but here I hope it sweetens and condenses the scent. I love rich and aromatic florals. From Jacksonville, NC.

  • April Carlson says:

Honeyed and smoke, caramel, and ambroxan. Sounds interesting especially with cistus and a with a wild variety of notes. Would love to wear this new Parfum.

  • I love how Badar Parfums Estelle seems to invoke an earlier era of perfumery, with nods to powder and makeup, scented with florals and honey. The use of labdanum here sounds expertly applied, darkening the other notes with a whisper of the animalic. Lovely.

    I’m in the USA.

As J said, let them eat candied plum, dripping in caramel and golden honey. Love that!

  • Margaux Le Paih Guérin life diary really paints a picture of her intricate character . What really grabbed me in was her extensive journey , from hanging around her mother’s perfume shop, to internships at really young age , to collaborations with inspiring people from different areas , and her state of felicity at FLAIR.
I’m keen on the whole Badar Parfums Estelle package and J’s Collage of Sophia Coppola’s 2006 film Marie Antoinette . Powdery candied plums , delicious sensuality , feel of golden happiness , and depending on J Wearescentient ecstatic experience with the fragrance I’m aware Badar Parfums Estelle is a very special delicious fragrance with lots of depth, and unique character based on French feel and Arabian perfumery traditions
Thanks for the draw, from the USA
