“Orange flower and neroli are two of my favourite smells. I just had to have a perfume in my collection that reflects this. Dilletante is not returning. TRYST is taking its place. I like to think that after all these years that I’m a better perfumer. Also, my tastes change. ~ Hiram Green in recent email to Ida and Michelyn.

Award-winning natural perfumer Hiram Green  (2019 Art & Olfaction artisan category winner for Hyde)  happily confesses to harboring a longstanding passion for orange flower and neroli. His collection would not feel complete without a standout composition which showcased them – and since his beautiful Dilettante has been discontinued, Hiram has developed a kissing cousin, if you will: a joyous estival romp through the countryside appropriately named Hiram Green TRYST. Anyone may meet and gather with others, but the very flavor of a tryst resonates with clandestine assignation of an intimate variety. The concept of a tryst vibrates with anticipatory eroticism – and Hiram has succeeded in presenting us with the glory of high summer and the openhearted sensuality which accompanies it.

Hiram Green TRYST is intoxicating, solar, and pollen-rich: a lyrical mélange which employs every facet the orange tree has to offer, drenched in sun-warmed honey and resin. Its innate radiance is a depressive preventative; aromatic inoculation against life’s slings and arrows by virtue of natural healing in a most appealing form. I might categorize this fragrance as olfactive medicine minus the bitter aspect which pharmaceuticals possess; would that all such panaceas were so pleasurable. As is often the case with his perfumes, Hiram Green TRYST is long lasting and deeply comforting. The glints of acute greenery provide a counterpoint balance of elements which is so welcome amidst the headiness of TRYST’s composition. We are reminded that plants manifest their own sex lives; that honey and beeswax enliven the animalic undertow of white blossoms, playing upon their intrinsically seductive qualities all the while.

When we think of animalic characteristics in a fragrance, I think that perceptions vary wildly. Some associate them with a decided lack of hygiene and view them with overall distaste; others equate them with unwanted intrusion; still others perceive them as naughty, prurient, and subversive. What if we were to simply view them as part of a wholesome divine sexuality which is ours by dint of birth? For me, the latter perspective best sums up part of TRYST’s appeal. Perfumer Hiram Green invites us to open ourselves to the prospect of joy and pleasure intuitively – with a fragrance that will surely be regarded as one of the finest natural perfumes of 2024.

    I like it that TRYST is described as a summer scent but with orange and neroli. I feel like most of the summer scents are coconut so it’s nice to see something different! -New York, NY

    I was not familiar with the house of Hiram Green, the fragrance Dilletante or what a tryst was so I learned a few things reading this article. Tryst sounds like Ida described it, a sun-drenched, orange blossom summer waiting to happen. Orange blossom has become one of my favorite summery notes and to have a whole fragrance dedicated to it it’s just superb. I see why Hiram has such an affinity to that note, it’s refreshing, clean-smelling and also very natural to our noses. Now I just want to go on a secret tryst, wearing tryst and having a good old time! Cheers from USA.

    Honey, resins and pollen? I’m in! My favorite florals are always very heavy on that yellow pollen scent that reminds me of incense. I live in the US and haven’t had a chance to try any Hiram Green scents as yet.

    This is alluring because it is based on everything orange. Not just the fruit but the flowers and everything else. Taking it up a few levels against the competition. The citrus notes are fun and somehow never gets old. I’m glad to see this company create it’s own ‘twist with tryst’. I don’t have any experience with Hiram Green but I would love to own this as my new summer companion. From Jacksonville, NC.

    I would really like to win this perfume because I am very interested in independent and artisanal perfumers (Anatole Lebreton, Francesca Bianci, Isabelle Larignon, Christelle Jacquemin,…) it is quite natural that I admire the work of Hiram Green , my favorites are Moon bloom and Arcadia.     What a nice review, and how nice to hear that Mr. Green has a new fragrance. I love almost any perfume that is orange blossom or neroli forward, and the fact that Ida mentioned beeswax being in the mix is what really intrigues me. The Hiram Green fragrance I’ve liked best up to now is Vivacious.

    I like the idea of a neroli-based summer scent with a sensuous side to it. As Ida mentioned, white florals often provide an animalistic edge to a fragrance and I think they will work wonders with the green and solar facets of the orange blossom – not to mention the honeyed touches, which often provide their own brand of animal-like quality. This sounds like a hit for sure. So far my favorite from the house is Slowdive (with Moon Bloom a close second), and I am keen to see what Tryst adds to the collection. Best of luck to everyone.     I am so excited about this latest release from Hiram Green! I never had the opportunity to try Dilettante but love neroli so I can’t wait to see what he does with note.     It’s my first time hearing about Hiram Green TRYST, but the orange tree/flower and neroli scent are perfect for summer. It can be consider as a sport perfume probably?. The sun warm honey resin mix in it makes it more appealing in my opinion like Ida described. Im from California USA

    Dilettante Was my first Hiram Green fragrance and still one of my favorites, I’m so excited to see how Tryst compares. I appreciate that Hiram mentions that he’s become a better perfumer over the years and he wanted to do a new take on Orange Blossom and Neroli.     love Hiram Green’s Moon Bloom, it is my favorite tuberose perfume. I’ve always been sad I didn’t get a chance to smell Dilletante as I asore Orange blossom but find some perfumes featuring it to be too screechy. I am pretty certain he would do the flower justice. Brooklyn, NY

    It’s hard to think of a a more refreshing summer scent than one revolving around all things orange! I love the complexity of natural materials, and Hiram Green is one of the best at teasing out the interplay of that complexity. As Ida has made clear, the simple scent notes belie a full experience of a summer tryst – bright, fresh, and animalic. I’d love to try this one!

    This sounds amazing. I love so many of Hiram Green’s fragrances and I’m certain this may be another one I will crave. The idea that this fragrance is “olfactive medicine minus the bitter aspect which pharmaceuticals possess” intrigues me. Also I’m pleased to see that honey and bees wax are notes – these seem to be in many of HG’s fragrances. I’m in the USA.

    I was recently introduced to Hiram Green‘ Moon Bloom, and loved it to pieces. I live in Lisbon where orange trees are a common sight- what a treat for an urban area! What a treat would be to wear Tryst on my way to the beach, animalic, subversive neroli as a second skin.

    Previously, my reference for neroli was the classic 4711, and the only Hiram Green I’ve tried (and loved) was the delightfully sticky Slowdive, itself displaying interesting facets of orange blossom. Ida’s words portray Tryst as a perfume with the promise and tenderness of an early summer afternoon, a chance for HG to other, more expansive aspects of orange blossom, in its interplay with the full lifecycle of the flower.
    Needless to say, I would love to enter the giveaway and sample this beauty. I’m based in Spain (EU).

    Hiram Green is such a master perfumer. His Moon Bloom fragrance is extraordinary and so well composed.     I love love love orange blossom and neroli, so I am so looking forward to this scent. I do not have a favorite Hiram Green frag, but Dillitante would probably have been it!     I love everything about this, I am crazy about citrus/neroli/orange blossom, as well as the inclusion of petitgrain; I enjoyed Dilettante but it was a little sterile on me, so the description of Tryst’s “headiness” sounds perfect. My favorites are Moon Bloom and Slow Dive, so the white floral and honey would fit right in! I’m in NC, USA

    I enjoyed the brief dicussion on the animalistic aspect of fragrances. While I have not smelt Dilletante (or indeed any other Hiram Green fragrance), Tryst does sound like a wonderful summer scent – a harkening to the life that the sun brings out, when winter has passed.

    I had the chance to listen to Hiram Green on a podcast a while back and have been meaning to try his fragrances since.

    When I saw that Hiram’s latest creation includes all aspects of the orange tree I knew I had to enter! I had an orange tree growing up, which I never thought about it in this way before.     I’m a huge fan of Hiram Green perfumes. I own Moon Bloom and Slow Dive, both of which I absolutely love. When Green released Philtre earlier this year, I was head over heels with this magical carnation potion. Now, I was completely caught by surprise when I heard the news of a new release because I didn’t see it coming.     I’ve never tried Dilletante, so I don’t have any allegiance to it, and I appreciate Green’s acknowledgment that his skill has improved and tastes have changed. All the shades of yellow in TRYST speak to the central orange tree notes; honey, beeswax, neroli, flower, and zest. It sounds like a lovely profile of some of Green’s favorite materials. Thought provoking review, Ida, with an interesting take on animalic notes.

    I’m in the USA. I haven’t tried a Hiram Green fragrance.

    Tryst sounds beautiful! I have either loved or admired all of Hiram Green’s fragrances, including Dilettante. My favorite, I think, is Voyage 19. As a Libra, balance is my thing. I was especially drawn to Ida’s description of “glints of acute greenery” providing “a counterpoint balance of elements.” Sending my aloha to all from Hawaii.

    Ida’s approach to accepting animalic qualities of scents as intrinsic to our very beings is quite profound. I read once, “What is Kouros, if not the concept of a bar of soap: it gets dirty as we get clean”

    Her assertion that the greener aspects counterpoint the headiness of TRYST is certainly piquing my interests with this fragrance as well.

    Of the line-up, my favorite Hiram Green would have to be Vetiver.

    I really appreciate Hiram Green’s creation. I enjoy wearing the smoky deep prismatic allure of “Hyde” and the comforting sweet hug of “Slowdive”..I also like Shangri-la and Dilettante and MoonBloom and Arbolè..I think Hiram Green has a special magical touch with raw natural materials!
    I would love to try TRYST and get this sensual sunshine on my skin..so, finger crossed!

    Having bought an unloved (the horror!) bottle of Vivacious, and considering my love of all things orange-y and sunshine-y, Tryst reads like a shoo-in straight to the <3. I have yet to try more of Hiram Green's work, but everything to anticipate, and can't wait to try them.

    I am a hige fan a neroli and orange flower same has the perfumer. I was very intrigued by Ida’s take on animalistic characteristics in a fragrance. Very different way of thinking about animalistic leaning notes in a scent. I am from the USA
