2009 Mini Series Tom Hardy as Heathcliff Wuthering Heights IMDB

Amidst the flickering glow of a hearth, one can imagine the enigmatic Heathcliff from Wuthering Heights, the main protagonist, embodying the essence of this fragrance. His mysterious allure, described in the novel as dark and brooding, finds a parallel in the rich and complex layers of Plume Impression Royal Bourbon.

As the fragrance unfolds, it paints a vivid picture of a refined gentleman indulging in the ritual of a cigar dipped into dark rum. The winter ambiance is palpable, with the heat of the perfume reminiscent of comforting spices—ginger and cinnamon. Picture the warmth of a Christmas orange studded with cloves.

The vanillin aspects gracefully meld with a leathery, swarthy quality, adding a touch of elegance and masculinity. The liquorice and black pepper notes introduce a subtle darkness, like shadows cast in the corners of a dimly lit Victorian drawing room.

Dressed in impeccably tailored dinner suits, characters in this olfactory narrative gather to discuss the evening’s possibilities. The fragrance weaves itself into the fabric of their conversations, creating an atmosphere charged with anticipation. Wafts of smoke curl upward, reminiscent of a cigar’s embrace, as the characters huddle by the fire. The scent permeates the room, an intoxicating blend that lingers like the memories of a well-spent evening. Liquorice and black pepper, with their hint of darkness, contribute to the mysterious allure of the gathering.

Outside, the winter landscape is bleak, with the wind whipping against the windows and snow illuminating the ground. The night, shrouded in darkness, sets the stage for an intimate gathering in the warmth of a luxurious parlour. Plume Impression Royal Bourbon becomes an immersive experience—an invitation to step into the past and embrace the opulence of Victorian society.

As the evening progresses and the story draws to a close, the hearth becomes the focal point, its glow casting a warm light that contrasts with the pitch-black night outside. The embers, much like the lingering notes of the perfume, gradually fade away, leaving behind a sense of nostalgia for a time when elegance and refinement were paramount. Amandine Galliano’s Plume Impression Royal Bourbon showcases the artistry of perfumery. With its intricate blend of spices, leathery undertones, and dark accents, it captures the essence of a refined era.

Notes: Liquorice, cinnamon, ginger, pepper, rum, tobacco, leather, caramel, vanilla, benzoin, amber, cedarwood.

  • I really enjoyed the image of a glowing hearth contrasted by a pitch-black night. The combination of liquorice, spices, leather and boozy notes sounds marvelous. A fragrance that wants to be discovered.
    My best wishes from Paris,
    Tom

Yeah, it’s very good, haha. A boozy, exquisite and refined blend for sure. I have only smelled it in passing but it’s plain delicious. I can see how it can evoke feelings of a Victorian era because of the boozy-ness and smoky vibe, but it doesn’t smell church-like at all. Not sure if this is classified as gourmand but it’s sure a yummy mix of ingredients. Cheers from the US.

  • This looks so exclusive starting from the concept of Victorian sophistication, to the wonderful bottle design, and the perfume inself. The combination of rum, vanilla and cinnamon is one of my favourite. I am pretty sure this Victorian era interpretation will be great.

I recently read a review of royal bourbon from Olivia Olfactory and immediately was intrigued and ordered a sample online. Wow! Full bottle worthy certainly. The embers gradually fade away…stunning. Ah! What an exciting draw.

Very interesting review. The most interesting thing is the note breakdown. Licorice, Ginger, Pepper, Rum, Tobacco… reads like my new favorite fragrance.

  • Wow! I really loved how this review teleported me to the Victorian era! I find the cigar notes the most intresting. I live in Trzebnica, Poland, EU.

  • I love Karl’s interpretation of Royal Bourbon as an allusion to a setting in a Victorian novel, and its characters. I especially enjoyed how he described the experience of the fragrance, from top to base notes, as one wears it. I have tested this fragrance, and have had it on my wishlist since then! I am in IL, US. Thank you!

  • I’ve read great reviews about Royal Bourbon. I’m intrigued with its tobacco, rum and liquorice notes. Karl drew me in with “the night, shrouded in darkness.” Thanks for another wonderful review and draw. Mich USA

  • Sounds like it would’ve been just right for the December holidays. Chocolate ‘n’ clove studded oranges ‘n’ all. The licorice and black pepper sound like interesting additions, and certainly would give the sweetness a nice bit of contrast. And I didn’t even know you could dip cigars in rum. To smoke I assume? lol Likely the smoky ember facet in the base is the woody amber, but I’d still be interested to see how it stacks up against a few other sweet tobacco options. It’s a popular genre no doubt. From Canada.

  • I am finding out I love fragrance articles that depict scent as scenery. I love Karl’s depiction of an old study as what the scent made him imagine. He just transported me to a place and moment unknown to me but made it familiar with how he describes it. This all the more makes me want to try this scent that makes such a vivid scent memory in Karl’s mind. From the Philippines.

  • Oh my goodness some of my favorite scent memories are cloved oranges. And I adore licorice in perfume. I cannot wait to try this!!! It sounds so austere yet warm, spiced yet refined. In California. Thank you

  • “whisking us away to a bygone age reminiscent of Victorian elegance”

I’ve never heard someone using whisking in such manner

    “Christmas orange studded with cloves”

Most commonly known, at least in US as pomander balls .
Thank you Karl for the semi-culinary , and spices reference, no surprise at all, since you cooked so well with another Plume Impression review , so well that I now own a bottle of Rivalite Imperiale because of it 🙂 In my Pastry Chef mind it smells like Grilled Cinnamon Plums with Sweetened Mascarpone.
Pomander balls , eating Allspice Orage Cake , drizzled with Rum , parti at home with fireplace burning, someone smoking Cohiba cigars , Karl cooked again , I need to know Royal Bourbon like asap.

  • Excellent excellent review! Wonderful description of each note and just an amazing list of notes! Have to get my nose on this one way or another.

  • I would really like to win this perfume, what I like in Karl’s opinion is the comparison with the enigmatic Heathcliff from Wuthering Heights, I also like when he evokes a cigar dipped in dark rum, I think so too at Baudelaire: luxury, calm and voluptuousness, I love it! I live in France, EU.

  • Patricia R. says:

I find the promise of the contrast between the bleak winter landscape and the opulent, warm and glamorous parlour the most interesting. I gather this contrast should be the embodiment of Heathcliff.

  • Wonderful review, fragrance’s rich layers, reminiscent of Victorian elegance, are eloquently compared to the dark and brooding allure of Heathcliff from Wuthering Heights. The description of the winter ambiance with comforting spices, the ritual of a cigar dipped in dark rum, and the warmth of Christmas orange with cloves is mesmerizing. The addition of leathery, swarthy qualities, along with liquorice and black pepper notes are the notes that I love.

  • The images the perfume evoked of a Victorian era ambiance amongst the company of the Winter season and opulence of Victorian society is a nice catalyst. The notes used in this interesting composition sounds mouth watering and create a sense of being enshrouded by a radiating warmth even before taking it to skin. Thank you for the opportunity. • Reading your review, my mind was already flying to a different era – as you perfectly said – to a time of Victorian elegance.
The notes seem to be really nice and I think this fragrance would be easily enjoyable by anyone.

Very impressed, dear Karl, I had a small sample of this from Cannes and fell head over heels, the combination of Licorice and Black Pepper is just divine and this is a lush and opulent classical interpretation. Thank you for your insights on this noble perfume. I live in EU.

  • wandering_nose says:

It was such a delightful experience for me to read Karl’s review – thank you Karl! I would readily get transported back to the era of elegance, sophistication and dark hues, to take pleasure in the exquisite mix of spices, leather, tobacco and woods. I’d be interested to see how the liquorice works with black pepper. Warm but at the same time mysterious and alluring, Royal Bourbon would be my guilty pleasure to enjoy on my own and share with those around me. Thank you from the EU.

  • I was able to try this one recently and I must say that it is one of the best boozy scents to come out recently. As Karl mentioned, the licorice and peppery notes are quite prominent and help it to stand out from other bourbon and tobacco combos. Best of luck to everyone. I live in NC, USA.

  • THEESE ARE ALL MY FAVOURITE NOTES WTF. I love plum, cinnamon and vanilla. I love reading, and when you said the perfume unfolds like a novel, i am very curious. I love wuthering hights. Super want to try, from eu.

  • whimsical diva says:

Given the glut of overly sweet fragrances that have flooded the market, it’s interesting to read about the description of licorice, ginger and pepper grounding the sweetness and adding a dash of something more smoky and dark. I’d love to enter the draw. I live in California

  • What I found most interesting in Karl’s review was the fact this fragrance was described as being a perfect fit for Healthcliff from Wuthering Heights. A dark, mysterious, noble yet tormented character can only be assigned to a fragrance with similar traits.
The cigar dipped in rum was also an evocative image, and I love the notes of black pepper, licorice and leather.
All in all, Royal Bourbon sounds like a perfume that ought to be experienced.
    Commenting from the EU.

  • It might be overly simplistic to say, but as a visual person, the choice of images that go along with Karl’s descriptions or a refined gentleman paint a picture not of the man I currently am, or even the man I want to be, but at least the man who I’d like to be able to pretend to be from time to time while wearing a fragrance like this.

  • AromaDulce73 says:

What caught my attention right away is the “cigar dipped into dark rum” description. Add liquorice and black pepper notes and you have a stunner of a fragrance.

That is definitely a scent DNA I can get into. This sounds like a sophisticated fragrance, something you would wear for a special occasion. Would love to add this to my collection.

  • The combination of liquorice, spices, leather and gourmand notes sound opulent and rich. I like the rum and smoke notes which speak of cozy winter evenings in front of a fire. Excellent review Karl! I’m in MD, USA.

  • Well, Tom Hardy can always turn my head, but the moody dark Victorian mood of the review definitely sparked my interest as well as the liquorice and pepper notes. Sounds like it might be something out of teh ordinary! I live in the USA

  • Uau, Karl masterfully captured the aura of the fragrances with his words and transmitted me to the most mysterious and captivating chapter of the novel. Anticipation, intimate atmosphere, warmth coming from the fireplace, and snow whipping against the windows.
And the notes! Just up my alley.
The fragrance seems to be such a winter gem I would surely love to smell it.

  • The way Karl describes this fragrance makes it one I absolutely would love to try. Rum, cigars, numerous layers throughout the experience/wear all sound like great traits to a cold weather fragrance. I live in CT, US.

  • Thank you Karl for the review, and for exposing the readers to this house and fragrance – I would genuinely never have heard of it or had any opportunity to know about it otherwise!
I think what I appreciated most about Karl’s review is the description of Plume Impression Royal Bourbon, specifically the story and scene you painted or the bleak winter landscape and the cozy and luxurious parlor inside (with the warm picture of the inviting hearth shown!).
So evocative, and I want to be there!
So, thank you for the giveaway, from Canada.

  • The setting takes me to a place of sitting by the fire in a leather chair, a pipe and a glass of bourbon and most importantly a dog by my side.
    Love it.

  • Loved Karl’s review! The storytelling hooked me. It wasn’t just about notes, it painted a whole Victorian scene – dark secrets, smoky cigars, characters like Heathcliff. The details brought it alive – winter chill vs. the warm perfume, embers fading like memories. Brilliant how he connects scent to emotions and stories. Makes me want to dive in!

  • I have wanted to try Plume Impression for a while now… Glad to see it featured here! I LOVE vanilla, and especially the bourbon kind, with it’s deeper and more mature smell. Dipping your cigar into dark rum seems like a weird thing to do, but what do I know.

  • Royal Bourbon sounds quite nice. A different sort of vanilla fragrance perhaps with how refined it seems to be. Thats what most interests me, how the vanilla combines with the smoke and booze and spices etc. Thanks for the generous draw. From the U.S.

  • Wow! This perfume sounds so opulent and cozy. I loved all the storytelling, the imagery of a spiced Christmas orange, warm fireplace hearth on a cold, dark winter night. I think this was one of my fave lines “The embers, much like the lingering notes of the perfume, gradually fade away, leaving behind a sense of nostalgia for a time when elegance.”

    Hello from UK
When I read about Royal Bourbon in Karl Topham Best of 2023 instantly i knew I need to know more about Plume Impression. Luckily I found out Jovoy Mayfair do carry the brand and went there for Royal Bourbon first, but also to basically smell all . After spending around an hour I brought home a bottle of Rivalite Imperiale with me .
It’s interesting that there are some similarities between Royal Bourbon and Rivalite Imperiale although a lot of differences too. Both are ambery fragrances with tobacco, cinnamon and vanilla , Royal Bourbon is less sweeter, way more spicy , more boozy and smoky. I believe two are not redundant at all.
The Victorian era comparison is correct, there’s a sense of different era kind of sophistication coming from Royal Bourbon , like Karl said an invitation to step into the past. In comparison Rivalite Imperiale is newfangled fragrance
I don’t see star anise in the notes , or in Karl essay and I so wonder why , because I’ve sprayed Royal Bourbon both on blotter and skin while at Jovoy Mayfair, shifting left and right between Rivalite Imperiale and Royal Bourbon , and i can smell it from the first spray and for long hours later on.
    Count me in please
    Thank you kindly

What I found interesting from this review is the notes of the licorice and black pepper notes that added to the sweet cinnamon, and vanilla base of this fragrance. I can imagine, how these notes added mystery darkness, and even sexiness elements to the fragrance. This combo of licorice and black pepper looks very interesting to me, which would make this fragrance unique compared to some rivals like Ambre Narguile or Ojan. I really would like to try this.

  • Royal Bourbon sounds like an exceptional cool-weather fragrance, with it’s notes of flickering hearth, fine cigar, warming rum, and winter spices. And it sounds like Galliano has kept it from being too sweet with leathery vanilla and a nice counterpoint of liqourice and black pepper. This fragrance seems both focused and heavy on comforting theme. I’d love to try it—thanks for the review, Karl.

    I’m in the USA.

  • I like learning about new things, and in particular fragrance brands, it seems like I’d enjoy Royal Bourbon a lot . If other Plume Impression offerings are of the same quality and intricacy absolutely I’d enjoy them too.
Karl Topham observations on the Royal Bourbon are based on Christmas orange studded with cloves, cigar dipped into dark rum , Victorian opulence and contrasting warm light and pitch black night.
He was able to capture my interest with because the serious take of spices and alcohol, bitter sweetness and hidden depth of the fragrance.
Thank you for your Plume Impression Royal Bourbon observations, and the generosity

  • Talking about unique moody take on a fragrance. I was totally not expecting Wuthering Heights and Victorian atmosphere , but it works out well with the rum , tobacco and the refined leather in Karl Topham article. Plume Impression Royal Bourbon is so sophisticated , with nice balance between the ingredients, partially seductive and partially mysterious , Karl is impressed too, always a good sign

  • “2009 Mini Series Tom Hardy as Heathcliff Wuthering Heights IMDB

Amidst the flickering glow of a hearth, one can imagine the enigmatic Heathcliff from Wuthering Heights, the main protagonist, embodying the essence of this fragrance. His mysterious allure, described in the novel as dark and brooding, finds a parallel in the rich and complex layers of Plume Impression Royal Bourbon.”

The parallel Karl made between Royal Bourbon and Heathcliff caught me off guard , my reaction was like “Wait…what?” 🙂
Since Karl spoke of Heathcliff in the Wuthering Heights novel , but the picture is from Peter Bowker TV adaptation, I’d like to say to me Bowker did a poor job , he made way too much changes to the characters, especially Heathcliff and Cathy Earnshaw , and the relationship between them compared to the novel.
Back to Plume Impression, I’m familiar with all , and even Sabine Schaffer and Gabriel Chami previous work. If I have to rate my favorite Plume Impression fragrances:
    1. Rivalite Imperiale
    2. Royal Bourbon
    3. Pop Heart/Que Tal
My impressions of Royal Bourbon are not the same compared to what Karl is getting. Love the Christmas oranges studded with cloves picture , and the ritual of cigar dipped into dark rum but I get way more rum than tobacco. On my skin the tobacco and leather are in the background, and on the front row are the rum , the licorice and plethora of spices. Amandine Galliano i believe composed a gem .
All profiles I already follow , including the still active @scentstoryfragrances , the previous semi- paused Sabine Schaffer and Gabriel Chami brand account/project , @waltherp99bg

  • I believe Karl told the perfect story for this fragrance. The thing that caught me the most is how he tied in the notes of liquorice and black pepper coming together. I personally have not smelled any fragrances that have liquorice as a note that I know of and I am definitely interested. Especially when you add in that vanilla and other boozy notes. The light and dark nuances of this fragrance have me adding it to my wish list.
