Prin Burmite Honey review

Those familiar with Prin Lomros’ work (AZMAN Majnoon, Zoologist Rhinoceros and Sloth, Der Duft ACT, to name just a few) know that he creates some of the most daring and unusual perfumes.  With his latest release under his eponymous brand, PRIN Burmite Honey, Mr. Lomros continues down this bold path and takes honey and beeswax to new levels.

As I mentioned when I chose Strangers Parfumerie Sweet Farewell as one of my top ten scents for 2022, not all of Mr. Lomros’ creations are instant loves for me. Yet, I am always eager to smell anything he creates because I know there will be some diamonds in the rough that I adore.  For example, on a trip to L.A. late last year, I made a stop at Scent Bar and came home with a bottle of PRIN Mondodari which fulfilled my quest for a modern take on the classic aldehydic-floral-chypre genre.

When I first heard about PRIN Burmite Honey, I was eager to experience how Mr. Lomros would play Himalayan fossilized amber resin against beeswax absolute to create, as the brand states “a prehistoric golden nectar harvesting from 99-million-year-old bees.”

Honey and beeswax notes are some of the most versatile in perfumery, a perfumer or creative director’s take on the essence of honey can range from syrupy sweet, to quietly floral to ravenously sexy. As I smell some of my favorites, I realize that honey and beeswax are shapeshifters with many facets: the almost urinous beeswax in Serge Luten’s polarizing Miel du Bois Bois, the honey tobacco of By Kilian Back to Black and the illusion of fields of flowers dotted with beehives I think of with Zoologist Bee.

PRIN Burmite Honey is no innocently sweet honey. Burmite Honey plays off the animalic muskiness of beeswax by adding indolic jasmine and orange flower along with hints of Thai oud that create one of the most sexy scents I have smelled in a long time. I am immediately reminded of vintage fragrances such as Dana Tabu or Schiaparelli Shocking and their unabashed eroticism. I search the notes list for civet, hyrax or castoreum but, the fact that none are listed illustrates Mr. Lomros’ talent.

Do not let the animalic notes scare you off, this is no barnyard fragrance, the fossilized amber, myrrh, tonka bean and spices balance out the musk with glowing warmth. Threads of incense weave their way throughout transporting you straight to Myanmar (Burma): home to the fossilized amber resin. Throughout this complexity, smoldering honey and beeswax are always radiating,

As a lover of classic perfumes of years long gone, Burmite Honey takes me back in time – not to the prehistoric age as the brand as the marketing copy implies- but to a time when fragrances were boldly seductive and tantalizingly sexy. I will not hesitate to buy myself a full bottle and I am already adding PRIN Burmite Honey to my top ten list for this year.

    What appeals to me is that Burmite Honey reminds Rachel of vintage perfumes and that it isn’t sweet. And that it is one of her picks for top 2023. I own Azman Majnoon after reading about it here. You guys have great taste

    ah this sounds beautiful. It was one of the one from the new releases that popped out for me as I’m a honey fan. but hearing that its vintage in style like Tabu and Shocking makes me want it even more. I’m a big fan of Prin Lomros’ work.

    This sounds incredible. A sexy honey note is something I’ve been seeking for a while. I remember knocking down bee nests looking for honey while I was growing up in the countryside and the smell of unrefined honey is soo nice. It’s interesting that you can get an animalic scent out of honey and beeswax. I mean, it makes sense when you consider how bees make the honey. I also like that this is not sweet. I do like sweet honey, but I’m interested in exploring a different part of it.

    Honey is a favorite, but it can be overly sweet at times. And I’m really getting into white florals so a scent combing that and incense will surely be interesting. In maryland

    This honey/beeswax centric perfume sounds amazing! What I enjoyed the most was its comparison to vintage Tabu and the apparent animalic aspect of the fragrance. I love how bold and almost explicitly sexual vintage fragrances used to be and I’m always happy to smell a modern interpretation of the same concept.

    It sounds just amazing and I have always wanted to try one of Prin’s creations. This man is just so creative and his scents seem so pure. Love the idea of honey without being overly sweet. Just yesterday I saw a documentary about Ethiopian honey and how the beehive is just fresh like grass when they eat it. Love to try this. Living in the EU

    I love the smell of honey but perfume that is straight up honey is a bit too much for me – I love that Burmite Honey complements the honey with florals and oud. It sounds gorgeous and I’d love the opportunity to try it! I’m in MN, USA.

    Hello, my name is Kristof from Portugal.
    I have had the pleasure to try some of PRIN’s creations. So I did not really need anything to spark my interest…the perfumes speak for themselfs. One thing though peaked my interest and that’s your reference to 2 excellent an intoxicating perfumes, Black to black by Kilian and Zoologists Bee. No need to say more, I would love to have a sniff 🙂

    Sloth is one of my favorite Zoologist perfumes, but I don’t think I’ve had a chance to try any other Prin Lomros composition. Burmite Honey sounds like a bold spin on honey fragrances, leaning into the indolic and animalic, and it’s surprising he achieved this without civet, hyrax or castoreum. The spicier incense elements sound like a nice balance to honey’s sweet side and a way to give this perfume a sense of place.

    I’d like to try Prin “Burmite Honey”. I’ve heard of Prin Lomros, and I’ve been intrigued to try some of the fragrances he made (I’ve become less afraid to try animalic fragrances). I think it’s interesting that Rachel describes it as “one of the most sexy scents I have smelled in a long time.” I’d like to smell how Prin uses the ingredients. I live in the U.S.A.

    Fossilized amber is such a beautiful and underused note, and honey is irreplaceable when done well — it sounds like Burmite Honey has the potential to be really magical. I’d love to give it a try!

    Thanks for the writeup Rachel.

    This is one of the rare honey scents that I actually look forward to smelling. While I was excited by the writeup for Zoologist Bee, I found my decant quite rich to use.

    This scent sounds like the perfect blend of the best of honey and other materials such as oud and incense to tone down the sweetness and play up the more animalic nuances of the honey.
