“Inspired by the quest to create a fragrance as magical as a kiss on warm silky skin. The freshness of a first kiss, innocent and joyful.”-Kershen Teo
Mimosa is an interesting floral in that it has many pronounced facets. Its beauty lies in its complexity therefore it is ideal as a heart note in perfumery. Kershen Teo of Prosody London has enhanced the beauty of mimosa with a variety of accents to weave his golden tapestry and shed light on a floral which is known for its vintage style, but here it is done in a thoroughly modern way. In a world saturated with overt sexualisation it is refreshing to experience a scent that takes us back to traditional courtship and the focus of a kiss as opposed to rushing for instant aggrandisement. Prosody London Moiré Mimosa is inspired by the class and elegance of Audrey Hepburn, whilst its golden hues are intuitive of the ‘Golden Style’ of Gustav Klimt’s symbolic imagery. With Moiré Mimosa Kershen Teo sought to develop a scent that created a tapestry of light and pleasure.
Gustav Klimt Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I, 1907/wiki art
Mr. Teo was inspired by the 1907 painting of Adele Bloch-Bauer by Gustav Klimt, not for its symbolic message, rather for the golden hues and shades which are illuminating and mesmerising in their lustre. The fusion of Byzantine, Egyptian and Asian references was Klimt’s artistic response to the mosaics he witnessed in Ravenna, Italy, which profoundly affected him. The subject of his painting ‘Adele’ must have been significant in his life as she is the only muse to appear twice in his paintings. There is a coyness in her expression and a slightly withdrawn aspect to her stature as she clasps her hands together neatly. She is adorned in a fashionable dress of ornate splendour whilst a golden ornamented halo surrounds her face, rouged lips and flushed cheeks.

The mimosa here as with all the ingredients is 100% natural. Its rising green notes are pronounced by complementing fruitiness. These bright aspects are clearly defined in Moiré Mimosa, the neroli, melon and Chilean lime set up a fresh and light entrance which is most enjoyable. These elements shine like the shimmering diamond choker which bedecks Adele’s neck. They fuse beautifully with the heart of mimosa acting to accentuate the purity of it.

As the scent transitions, the floral qualities begin to stand out. Here Mr Teo has blended almond blossom and Indian tuberose to create a gorgeous floral accord. This is where the reference to a ‘first kiss’ is reminiscent to us. We pick up on the almond tones very clearly and this gives a smooth luscious element to the experience. At this point I envision Audrey Hepburn, there is an innocence and naivety typifying the breeze and shimmer of her style. Moiré Mimosa develops a creamy nuance that flows throughout its lifecycle which I understand comes from the combination of coconut and almond blossom with the mimosa making it both feather-light and soft. There’s an elegance and beauty about it that is quite haunting and synonymous with sophistication.
Keep in mind that this is a ‘cologne naturel’ meant for spritzing throughout the day. The lasting power of this scent is more than adequate and is supposed to be light and airy. Harmonising both high-quality and longevity is challenging in natural perfumery. However, Mr Teo has managed to produce a fragrance that will keep on pushing throughout the morning. Moiré Mimosa is a study in elegance and refinement – it is pleasure, beauty and style in a bottle.
