Juliette Has A Gun Magnolia Bliss review

What does summer of ’69 smell like?. I heard quite often that it smelled of patchouli and free love. We all know these stories, but there must have been some other fragrances in the air that can describe the era of peace, love, and freedom. Juliette has A Gun Magnolia Bliss, the latest release by Juliette Has a Gun, celebrates precisely that. Inspired by the Flower Power of the late 60s-early 1970s and the pure enjoyment of life, this is one juicy perfume.

As many others may agree, a fruity fragrance always seems to do an excellent job of uplifting my spirit. Have a gloomy day? Spritz some Magnolia Bliss and it suddenly feels like an infusion of vitamin C that quickly delivers a dose of brightness and optimism into even the most dismal days. There is a Jolly Rancher type of sweetness you can almost taste in the opening, ripe nectarine and mirabelle plum duo make my mouth water. Juliette Has A Gun Magnolia Bliss feels relatively youthful to me. I picture a 1960s VW bus full of young nomads. Flowers are woven into their hair, and the soft scent of shampoo trails behind them as they listen to the tunes and open their hearts to life’s adventures. There is not a drop of seriousness in this fragrance if you are expecting a Lady Vengeance level of sophistication; keep going; this won’t be for you. If you enjoyed Pear Inc. and found it fun and flirtatious, Magnolia Bliss is your gal.

As perfumer and founder Romano Ricci says, “Magnolia Bliss is a Flower Power spirit embodied in a fragrance”; one may believe the bohemian spirit smells of earthiness and warm woods, and perhaps some herbs may qualify as well. I think that each generation looks at the past through the lens of their life. Magnolia Bliss is an interpretation of what the 70s might have smelled like through the eye of a Gen Z consumer. Fun and liberating, it smells of tart summer filled with tropical cocktails and late-night parties around the pool. It smells of sweet kisses, first love, and lollipops.

The one common denominator between the summer of 1969 and the famous Woodstock festival is perhaps the usage of musk in the base of Magnolia Bliss. According to a fabulous article written by Deputy Editor  Ida Meister called the Perfumes of Woodstock, musk was everywhere. It is mixed with the scent of unwashed bodies and cheap fruity booze, which we will get to in a minute. Now I will be honest here, it’s in no way dirty or provocative. On the contrary, it smells of fruity shampoo and a bubble bath, fresh out of the shower skin and possibly some cheap fruity cocktails teenagers like to sneak into parties and drink as they rebel against the world.

Complex? No, Fun? Yes! Juliette Has A Gun Magnolia Bliss is a sundrenched and joyful little babe, sipping on a fruity glass of wine, a great fragrance for Flower children of all ages that brings nothing but happiness to the table. After all, isn’t that what we are chasing after all?

Notes: Bergamot, Magnolia, Mirabelle Plum, Musks

The bottle of Juliette has A Gun Magnolia Bliss was kindly gifted to me, opinions are always my own.

  • This one sounds so fun! JHAG is a favorite house. So far nothing in the line has topped my love of Vanilla Vibes. Maybe Magnolia Bliss will topple the favorite. ~Indiana, USA

  • I like that this is flower power for a young generation. I don’t like musky patchouli frags. My favorite Juliette Has a Gun is Not a Perfume Superdose.

  • Love the idea of Woodstock 1969. Magnolia and Vanilla sounds great.Juliette has a gun wonderful Fragrance house. Thank you for this Chance USA

    Hi!

If the summer of ‘69 smells like patchouli, then count me in! My mom was a total hippie, so as I read this entry, I was totally transported to my own childhood. I may not have been born then, but my mom was going to be sure that I understood the zeitgeist from which she grew up.

I really appreciate what Oyla Bar is saying regarding not only the power to transport you to another time and another place, but it has another magical property, which is to enhance your mood. Do doctors prescribe fragrance? If not, they should!

The way this fragrance is described, “jolly rancher sweet” and “ripe nectarine and mirabelle plum”, really speaks to summer time, as well as the zest of youth. It sounds like something my younger sister would really enjoy.

My favorite of the JHAG offerings are “Pear Inc.” and “Not a Perfume.”

    Well Wishes,

  • I agree that when I read about the perfumes and perfume oils of the 1960s and 1970s, patchouli and musk feature prominently. Magnolia Bliss seems like another interpretation of that era but in a floral manner. My fav. from Juliette has a Gun is Midnight Oud. I am in US.

I personally like how she gives it a timestamp for nostalgia sake but also talks of the invigorating youthfulness of modernity that the fragrance embodies. At this point with Juliet has a gun being a staple fragrance house in my collection I would have to say that vanilla vibes is my favorite of the bunch.

  • This does sound like a fun, flirtatious fragrance. I really enjoy many of the JHG scents. Not a Perfume is such a great scent that I layer with just about everything I wear. I find the quality and longevity of JHG perfumes are really good, too.

  • Olya makes Juliette Has a Gun Magnolia Bliss sound like so much fun. Like a relaxed, fun, uneventful summer day! I would love to try this. I”ve only tried a couple of fragrances from this house, but my favorite is “Vengeance Extreme”. I am in the US

  • This sounds cute! I enjoyed reading the part about Gen Z’s interpretation of what the 70’s might have smelled like. I study generations and engage in related online communities and I can agree with this analysis. When you look at current fashion there is definitely a glossy interpretation of these past styles going on, not that I mind. Some may complain about it as almost a form of style gentrification, but I like to look at post-modern fashion as a best-of collection. I think our focus needs to be on creating joy right now and this perfume sounds like an embodiment of it. USA

  • Juliette has A Gun Magnolia Bliss sounds like a cheerful, summery perfume. Never tried anything by this brand. Interesting description by Olya on the Woodstock festival and the smells of that age. Surprised it has so few notes. Thanks for the review and draw. From USA.

I’d samples several fragrances from this house, but never owned a full bottle. I like the way that Olya mentions how a fruity fragrance can magically uplift your spirit on even the most dismal days. I’d love for my wife or stepdaugher to have a chance to try this one out. I live in Maryland USA.

  • I love fun fragrances, in fact those are the ones I wear the most. I may feel a little overwhelmed sometimes when wearing a complex niche fragrances and people around me can’t even appreciate a good fragrance. I would love to smell this one as I like other Juliette Has a Gun fragrances, my favorite one being Not a Perfume.

This sounds like a fun fragrance for summer and a perfect introduction for the younger generation. Magnolia, fruits and musk is a joyful combination. I love the reference to the 1960s flower power. My favorite JHAG is Not a Perfume. MD, USA

Fantastic review Olya! What I enjoyed most about Olya’s review was the description of the fragrance as the embodiment of pure joy, bright, youthful, and optimist, full of the rebellious yet joyous spirit of the late 60s with it’s juicy jolly rancher fruitiness, fragrant florals, and easy, flirtatious musk. I don’t tend to go for fruity florals but we could all use a little more joy these days!

My favorite Juliette Has A Gun fragrance is definitely Lady Vengeance elegant and sophisticated with an edge. I live in the US.

  • Jake Dauod says:

What I enjoyed most about this review was how Olya described the fragrance. Sometimes we all need something simple to lift our mood. I loved the line about the fragrance as a mix between fruity shampoo, a bubble bath, and cheap fruity cocktails. To be honest, that sounds absolutely lovely and perfect for the upcoming summer months. I haven’t tried any Juliette Has A Gun fragrances, so I don’t have a favorite. However, I would love to try this one. Kind regards from IN, USA.

  • This sounds like a very playful, fun and uplifting fragrance. Sounds like a perfume worth trying especially during the spring and summer season. I have not tried any Juliette has a gun fragrance yet but I have heard a lot about the perfume house. Looking forward to trying a few soon.

Olya, great review of  Juliette Has A Gun Magnolia Bliss. This sounds like a modern take on it’s comparison a the legendary 60s woodstock with the sun kissed skin and sensual fruity sweetness. Olya beautifully describes in vivid detail while making it so relatable. My favorite fragrance from Juliette Has A Gun is Moscow Mule. I am from Ohio, USA.

Thanks for the great review Olya!

I really enjoyed how reminiscent of spring and summer this review was.

I haven’t had a chance to smell this house.

  • Thank you Olya. Magnolia Bliss sounds like an escape to another era. I’ve been planning to try out Vanilla Vibes from Juliette Has A Gun and I’m in USA

  • I haven’t tried anything yet from this company, and I am intrigued to try their collected works. I can like floral fragrances and this one seems like it has a lot of floralness to it. I can also like boozy, fruity fragrances and this fragrance seems to have that too. I live in the U.S.A.

  • Olya take on Magnolia Bliss reminded me of making Mirabelle Plum Cake, and later on sharing it with friends on a pool party
Not a Perfume Overdose I own, and I love it for what it is, I only layer it with other fragrances. The truth most people are buying such perfumes , not to wear them as standalone fragrances, but to layer them , to extend the longevity and projection of those close to the skin perfumes they love. I’d like to layer Magnolia Bliss and Not a Parfume Overdose for the pool party
Appreciate the review, and the giveaway campaign.

  • Juliette Has a Gun name I’ve heard, but have no experience with it. Magnolia Bliss is simplistic, close encounters summer fragrance. My body may not be young enough for such fragrances, but my soul is
    Exciting giveaway, USA

Juliette Has a Gun to me is Vanilla Vibes , it was my scent of the day a few days ago. Pleasant mostly warm weather scent . Vanilla , salt and orchid combination I can wear all year round, even if it’s cold ,if I overspray of course. It’s quite versatile, I even wear it at the shop, working with clients
Magnolia Bliss is sweeter, and more playful, for shorts , white shirt and sunglasses kind of outfit
    Thank you Olya and Europerfumes

  • “Mmmm” is the reason in know Juliette has a Gun . It’s in the vain of Dior Hypnotic Poison – had to get it, since I am huge Hypnotic Poison fan.It is really sweet , and vanilla is the most prominent note.
With such colognes like Pear Inc , and Magnolia Bliss you could easily create your own flankers , for example layering Mmmm and Magnolia Bliss , i think will freshen up the smell , summer plum and vanilla.
    Thanks for the draw

  • Spring is not quite here yet, and I’m still not thinking of Summer. The weather is horrible last week .It’s pouring on the outside, and Magnolia Bliss could at least cheer me up . Not every fragrance should be overly complex, sometimes I need something fun scent , just like Magnolia Bliss .
Own full bottle of Into The Void , and i had Mmm . Into The Void is not from the same line as Pear Inc , but from more upscale line called “Luxury collection”. No doubt my favorite Juliette Has a Gun is Into the Void
    Thanks a lot , all profiles I already follow , @waltherp99bg

  • Easy going, joyful is how I would describe Juliette Has a Gun fragrances I know. With Pear Inc, and Vanilla Vibes one could be delighted up until late Summer.
Olya review also made me think how much i need a vacation at the moment – laying on the hammock with a book , drinking White Sangria preferably with the lovely 2018 Jermann Pinot Grigio Venezia Giulia IGT
Magnolia Bliss is your gal , I do agree Olya, it is
    Thank you for the chance
