2021 Art and Olfaction Award-winning artisanal perfumer Linda Sivrican of Capsule Parfumerie is clearly a woman with a vision – or perhaps many visions. Since her initial foray into handmade fragrance nearly 10 years ago, her work has evolved to include eight individual brands under the gracious umbrella of her house Capsule Parfumerie. Ms. Sivrican is the sole perfumer in this endeavor, which is conducted collaboratively with her husband and business partner Mike.

Their fragrant creations are imaginative and offer a multiplicity of choice for the inquisitive nose. Her latest scent provides beauty with a mission: proceeds from Fiele Fragrances A Flower For You will benefit The Ron Finley Project, an ongoing campaign which empowers inner city Los Angeles inhabitants to cultivate their own food as a means of encouraging an accessible, better-quality diet and overall health and well-being. Ron is known as The Gangsta Gardener and is both local hero and muse. His goal is to gather together community, foster pride, self-sufficiency, and help battle the obesity which plagues the less well-heeled (who have also less access to fresh produce and rely upon cheaper and less beneficial food options).

To proffer a single blossom often speaks more eloquently than a lavish bouquet; there’s a lovely symbolism to it which the heart registers on a profound level. A Flower For You extends the flowered hand of friendship with a delicate lyricism born of beautiful essences. It is in this spirit that Linda Sivrican’s perfume bursts into effusive bloom, the initial spritz teeming with botanical goodness. Vetiver was never so grassily green and joyfilled. It doesn’t lack for companionship, of course: the crisp brief bite of bergamot is seconded by a zesty pink pepper as prelude to dewy, honeyed rose de Mai, floral/herbal rose geranium, full-bodied jasmine grandiflorum and a kiss of orris. Fiele Fragrances A Flower For You evolves, brocaded woods come to the foreground – luxuriously rich, round and sweet Hawaiian sandalwood mingles with intensely balsamic Atlas cedar to creamy effect, with a sumptuously woody vanilla in attendance. Employment of musk is subtle as enhancement, neither attention-seeking nor overwhelming.

One does well not to take this fragrance’s name literally, as it is neither a soliflore nor exactly a bouquet; it’s an aromatic tribute which is appropriately earthy, but it never crosses the unwritten boundary into earthbound territory. If Linda Sivrican’s friend Ron Finley is an earthangel, then A Flower For You fits the bill admirably: delightfully grounded, light enough for flight and tenderly beatific.

Notes: vetiver (India),  sandalwood (Hawaii),  Atlas cedar (Morocco),  rose de Mai (Egypt), bergamot (Italy), jasmine grandiflorum (India), pink peppercorn (Peru), vanilla absolute (Madagascar), geranium (Egypt), orris root (France), musk

Thank you for the beautiful review Ida.

This is such a beautiful tribute to an excellent cause, one that we often take for granted. Food security and nutrition should be univeraly equal, yet we often find food deserts in so many areas.

I love how this fragrance captures the essence of such a beautiful man – rooted in the earth and spreading his message and essence like the flowers for good.

Fragrances are a medium of an expression and when it is a cause, it makes it all the better.

I’ve read much about Linda, but I’ve not had the chance to smell her fragrance.

    Cheers from WI, USA

  • This sounds lovely but I especially love that it’s benefitting such an important cause. All people should have access to healthy nutritious foods. Mr. Finley is doing good work and I lobe supporting a brand that highlights these samaritans. Thank you for the review. USA

  • The Ron Finley project is a great cause… I love when people give back in so many interesting an different ways, especially when it involves health related issues!! Lovely review Ida, always enjoy your way of explaining how different notes come together. Vetiver was never so grassily green & joyfilled, honeyed rose, full-bodied jasmine & a kiss of orris sounds very intriguing IMO love everything about this & it’s cause!!!

Thanks Cafleurebon for the draw an introducing us to this special house!! Good luck everyone… We all should support this house!!

My dad and I follow Ron and are both very much into rewilding urban areas and urban agriculture. And as someone who works in fragrance it’s so exciting to see him develop a scent (and see his work take a front seat). It sounds lovely, and I always appreciate a bit of ee cummings.

  • This is so cool! The fragrance itself interests me, the story of Ron Finley even moreso. I love the idea of fragrance for a cause. Some of the bottles in my collection are from just such causes. I am in the US

  • I’m definitely intrigued by this line; I see they have samples. I also really like the photoshoot they did for this fragrance. It’s great how this cause encourages healthy eating and lifestyles and makes total sense to be paired with a naturalistic perfume. I am in New England.

  • From Ida’s review, I learned about Fiele Fragrances A Flower For You and liked the fact that part of the profits from its sales are used to “inner city Los Angeles inhabitants to cultivate their own food as a means of encouraging an accessible, better-quality diet and overall health and well-being” thus fighting obesity and chronic diseases. Of course the listed notes for Fiele Fragrances A Flower For You are all classic and lovely, so it promises to be a lovely perfume, and Ida confirms it. Buying Fiele Fragrances A Flower For You one can feel good that not only is one getting a quality perfume, but it also helps people living better lives. Thanks for the review and draw. From USA>

  • I love what this house is doing as far as sustainability is concerned. I also appreciate Ron for his dedication with gardening in the less wealthy community. I actually just recently ordered samples from this house. I love that they use all natural ingredients and can’t wait to sample their take on vetiver, since that is my favorite note. Based on the notes this sounds fantastic. I also love the photography in this review. Very well done! Thanks for the review Ida, and the draw! In the US.

  • Thank you Ida for pointing a well deserved spotlight on this great partnership between Linda(Capsule Parfumerie) and The Ron Finley Project. There’s just so much upside to projects like Ron’s…from the obvious (growing healthy food for folks) all the way to the resulting urban beautification(many vegetable plants are truly beautiful when they bloom). Whether these garden plots are created in ground level courtyards or the roof tops on high rise apartment buildings…these “patches of green” are always precious things in urban areas.

As for the fragrance…I’m all in on vetiver fragrances so A Flower For You sounds great, especially as it’s actually not too floral overall.

    I’m in the USA.

  • At first I thought it would be merely floral fragrance, but then when Ida said it was an earthy fragrance it was a nice surprise. I love earthy, floral fragrances and I would love to try this myself. I’m in the U.S.

  • What an awesome perfume, perfumer, and review! It sounds delicious. All the better that it is for a good cause. Ida’s breakdown of the notes was great and so joyful. Fragrances are an artistic medium and I love any art that elevates other humans. Cheers from NC.

  • I love being able to support worthy causes through my purchases. I wasn’t aware of the Ron Finley project before but I’m definitely going to look into his work. The fragrance sounds lovely with a grassy vetiver, voluptuous florals and a base of vanilla and orris root. I’m glad you were able to highlight the Gangsta Gardener, Ida! I’m in MD, USA.

  • That sounds absolutely stunning…and I love fragrances (and other products) with causes, especially if the causes are both good and at a scale where every little bit obviously helps. And this one certainly ticks both boxes. Thanks, as always, for the draw. I’m in Oklahoma.

Even though I’m older than the millennial generation, my interest is piqued when I hear a product benefits social causes. It’s also nice, here, to celebrate a local hero rather than take inspiration from a place, or a famous person “just because.” It reminds us of that saying, “it takes a village.”

I am finding that I like vanilla in my perfumes but not as the focal point, so this sounds like a multifaceted, uber interesting addition to the perfume world. Thank you Ida for introducing me to this new fragrance! I live in the US.

  • A beautiful fragrance for a beautiful cause. Ron Finley is a rock star in my book. Thank you for what you do! USA

  • A Flower For You sounds beautiful. I like that Ida mentioned it is not a soliflore or even a bouquet and the notes that are not florals sound as if they go so well with the florals as well. Also love that its for a great cause. I know unfortunately it is more expensive to buy healthier food than not often times so being able to grow produce can be huge. Thanks for sharing this story and the generous draw. From CT USA.

  • This fragrance is an intersection of so many of my interests: Fiele is in my top three houses I want to try; urban gardening is one of hobbies; and vetiver and orris are two of my favorite notes. I’d simply love to experience what sounds like a real beauty. I’m in the US.

  • redwheelbarrow says:

This sounds lovely and I like that the fragrance incorporates an earthiness without going too floral or earthy. And I love the cause to which this fragrance is dedicated. What a wonderful idea. Thank you for the draw. From the US.

  • I support an increase of gardening in the cities and I also support enabling people to eat healthy food. I just wish that Ron Finley wasn’t a gangster though. I’m planning to grow a lot of food for myself starting in the near future. I like discovering artisan perfumers/fragrance houses whose fragrances I haven’t tried yet. I’m very interested in trying this fragrance. I want to see what the combination of florals in this are like. I like vetiver a lot, and I want to see what the vetiver in this fragrance is like. I live in MD., U.S.A. Thanks for the giveaway opportunity.

What interests me about Ida’s article is learning about 2021 Art and Olfaction Award-winning artisanal perfumer Linda Sivrican of Capsule Parfumerie. I really appreciate her working Ron Finley with proceeds from Fiele Fragrances A Flower For You will benefit The Ron Finley Project, an ongoing campaign which empowers inner city Los Angeles inhabitants to cultivate their own food as a means of encouraging an accessible, better-quality diet and overall health and well-being. Ron is known as The Gangsta Gardener. The fragrance itself sounds delightful too. Thank you for getting the wore out. I am always for supporting a good cause. I am from Ohio, USA.

  • Really interesting article! What interested me in Ida’s article is her description of the fragrance as so much more than a soliflore, but rather a whole garden full of greenery and aromatically earthiness along with the floral heart. I am very partial to green florals, so that absolutely enthralls me and I can’t wait to give it a try.
What appeals about fragrance with a cause is the ability to give back to the community while indulging in one of my favorite luxuriant hobbies – goodness and service in pure sybaritic pleasure, what a treat! I live in the US.
