Prosody London Pizzicato Bliss  (Keshen Teo) 2020 +Falling Head First into a Fig Grove Draw

Prosody London PIZZICATO BLISS

Ever since I came across London-based organic, all-natural line at Pitti Fragranze 2019, I’ve been closely following founder and in-house perfumer Keshen Teo’s work. His perfumes are, quite simply, gorgeous. Prosody London’s Cologne Collection, released last year, is the second from the brand, and features a sextet of fragrances that shimmer like the sound of cymbals, holding on in the heat when other such fragrances fade into the torpor. My favourite of the six, Prosody London Pizzicato Bliss, is a luscious take on fig and quince with the dizzy, drunken beauty of falling headfirst into a flowery fig grove. It was one of my top ten fragrances of 2020 and may just be my favourite of the entire line so far.

Despite the designation “cologne,” the fragrances in Prosody’s second collection are substantial enough to wear for hours but light enough to sport when the heat is on. Prosody London Pizzicato Bliss is case in point: A full-bodied, golden scent that lasts for many hours yet never wears oppressively. The first spray is full of the gorgeous, heady perfume of quince blossom. It smells exactly like walking under a mock orange tree in full bloom on a warm day while eating a Nashi pear; sweet juice, faintly indolic blossoms and peachy-neroli scent of the tree flowers. In a few minutes, Prosody London Pizzicato Bliss begins to rouse itself from its luxuriant bower as the galbanum brings the sparky greenness of snapped stem. Breathing it in again, the perfume is as intoxicating as drinking fruit nectar spiked with chartreuse on a warm, still day. And I want more.

Prosody London Pizzicato Bliss Review

Sweet Peas and Figs by Edward van Ryswyck, image via Wikimedia commons

At the center of the fragrance is fig leaf; intensely fruity, milky and honeyed. Unusually, the lemon – nearly always a top note – starts to intensify alongside the fig. It’s a clever move, as the tart citrus bite tempers the fig from becoming overripe and blowsy.

The Garden of Eden by Jan Brueghel and Peter Paul Rubens via wikipedia

As the fig drips into the quince and galbanum, Pizzicato Bliss becomes a fragrance of lovely contrasting fruit and floral aromas. The galbanum and lemon act as ballerinos, lifting and balancing their more opulent partners. Hours later, my skin smells sun-warmed, tinged with off-center sweetness and honeyed fruit. The effect is soothing, luxurious, and absolutely lovely. It smells like the Garden of Eden before it all went wrong. I’ll be frank: I adore everything about Prosody London, from its elegant, vintage-modern packaging to the brand’s central ethos of delivering organic, all-natural creations of consistently high quality that could hold their place aside the French and Italian beauties that line the perfume counters of Bergdorf’s and Harvey Nichols.

But most of all, I love natural perfumer Keshen Teo’s work. With their distinct but subtle beeswax-floral signature, his pure botanical fragrances are distinctive, thoughtfully composed, and downright beautiful. Seek them out; try their samplers, you’ll thank me.

  • I like galbanum and beeswax. So I find your description of those here, especially how galbanum is used in Pizzicato Bliss, quite fascinating. Thanks for the opportunity. (UK)

Lauryn’s excitement or this brand is apparent in this review. I didn’t know about Prosody London, and I’m looking forward to trying them out! Fig is one of my favorite notes in perfumery. I love the fig fruit and fig leaf smell. Since Pizzicato Bliss is described by Lauryn as full of fruity, milky and honeyed fig leaf aromas, I was automatically drown to it. I feel that quince could be an amazing note to combine figs with. I also like that it has contrasting fruit and floral aromas later on. I’m from Illinois, US.

  • Aw this sounds gorgeous! I love fig notes and to pair it with quince and galbanum sounds very interesting. I have sampled Mocha Muscari and really loved the subtlety of the perfume; beautiful strong fragrance without being shouty. The new cologne line sounds like a must try. Great review and choice by Lauryn. Marit UK

  • KMBfragrance says:

This sounds like a perfect spring fragrance experience, sweet and floral with enough green to keep it energizing and fresh. I haven’t experienced this house, but always love to hear of companies making enduring natural fragrances. I live in the USA.

  • I love fig and fig leaf, and paired with green and galbanum elements plus beeswax, I am intrigued! I don’t know this line, but I’m fairly new to this world and in that trying-a-billion-samples phase. I seem to prefer the all or mostly natural lines, so this really grabbed my attention. Also, the description of this as ‘soothing’ fits what I’m drawn to these days. Can’t wait to try this and I’m grateful to be entered!

  • First of all, i love the name ‘Pizzicato Bliss’. As a lover of quince, lemon, fig and galbanum, then this is 100% my bag! I’d love to try this one and celebrate my birthday smelling just fabulous!
I feel that when i spray Pizzicato Bliss that bees may follow me to look for nectar….. 🙂
Thank you for the chance to win, I’m living in the UK. cheers!

  • Admittedly I’m not very knowledgeable about natural perfumes, but this sounds wonderful! Lauryn does a great job describing the photorealistic nature of the fragrance and “falling headfirst into a flowery fig grove”. I’m almost not familiar with quince blossom but the combination with fig leaf, lemon and galbanum sounds refreshing. I’ve not tried any fragrances from Prosody London but would love to. Commenting from MD, USA.

This sounds like such a winner! And I loved Lauryn’s review. Any scent that might be “as intoxicating as drinking fruit nectar spiked with chartreuse on a warm, still day” has my attention. I am intrigued by Lauryn’s description of how the lemon and galbanum balance the sweeter notes in this fragrance. I have not tried any Prosody fragrances. I live in the US, in North Carolina.

  • It was the “ Smells like the Garden of Eden before it went all wrong” that did it for me. I love fig fragrances and the ballerina parallel was extremely enticing. I’ve never tried this house before but my interest is peaked. I live in Indiana USA

  • This sounds lovely! I love a juicy, fruity scent with hints of floral. And I’m intrigued by a scent with a lemon citrus note that doesn’t reveal itself until later. Sounds devine! I don’t know Prosody London, but the names of some of the others intrigue me, especially Berry Blitz! I’m in NYC.

  • I don’t know Prosody London’s fragrance line, but this review makes me want to! I’m a sucker for fig fragrances. I live in Oklahoma, USA. Thanks for the draw!

  • This sounds amazing. I love all things fig, and though quince isn’t particularly common in these parts, I got a nice quince candle from Henri Bendel shortly before they closed. Prosody sounds familiar but I haven’t tried any of the scents. Curious to see how the all-naturals perform.

    Cheers from the US.

  • Quince immediately got my attention! Further reading and I desperately want to try Pizzicato Bliss I want some warmed honeyed skin. It sounds exactly my type of scent, galbanum, lemon, fig, yes please. I am in U.K.

  • Bryant Worley says:

From the review, it seems like this fragrance, although being all-natural, is well-balanced, everything working in perfect harmony: “As the fig drips into the quince and galbanum, Pizzicato Bliss becomes a fragrance of lovely contrasting fruit and floral aromas. The galbanum and lemon act as ballerinos, lifting and balancing their more opulent partners. Hours later, my skin smells sun-warmed, tinged with off-center sweetness and honeyed fruit. The effect is soothing, luxurious, and absolutely lovely. It smells like the Garden of Eden before it all went wrong.”

I live in Waldorf, Maryland, USA, and had never heard of Prosody before this article. So, thank you for the introduction.

  • But most of all, I love natural perfumer Keshen Teo’s work. With their distinct but subtle beeswax-floral signature, his pure botanical fragrances are distinctive, thoughtfully composed, and downright beautiful. I am intrigued by the notes especially Galbanum, quince and fig in particular. A beautiful piece by Lauryn that has got me intrigued to try and get my hands on the fragrances from Prosody London and I am equally excited by the perfumer Keshen Teo. Thanks a million from the United Kingdom

High praise indeed from Lauryn has got me intrigued and curious about this house. A house that I am not familiar with I am afraid but I am curious about the beeswax and Galbanum combo the most. Thanks a lot from the UK

  • Oh my. This sounds Magical!
    Here’s my favorite part.

Thanks for the very generous giveaway, I live in the USA. Have not tried anything from this House but would love to.

I’m not familiar with Prosody, but fig is one of my favorite fruits and I love it in perfume. It’s funny, I’m pretty sure the flowers in that painting are morning glories and not sweet peas. I’m so glad ballerino is an acceptable term for a male dancer of ballet, I thought it was a clumsy term I made up because I didn’t want to have to say danseur noble all the time. I’m in the US.

  • I am very curious about the quince blossom and I’d love to see how it works with the citrus and fig notes. I’m intrigued by the lemon intensifying over time, which is certainly an unusual but attractive feature. I have heard of the line, but haven’t had a chance to try their creations. I am in the USA.

  • I did not know the brand, but I already visited their website and signed up for their newsletter. I love fig perfumes and I am always curious to smell how brands work this note. The image of eating fruits near mock orange bushes sound so relaxing. I’m sold.
    State: Texas.

  • Lauryn, I love fig perfumes and your description has sold me on this one. I alsmost never made blind buys, but I think I could trust that I would love this! The description of the fig leaf: fruity, milky, honey, just sounds marvelous. Thank you for introducing me to this brand, as I’d never heard of it. I am in the USA

  • The fig grove is what first struck me about Prosody Pizzicato Bliss. My uncle tended a fig grove I would visit as a child. The rest of the scent sounds amazing. Contrasting fruit and florals is nice. And, of course, all natural vegan! I hadn’t heard of this brand before but will be checking them out now. I am in the US

  • Natural perfumes are always appreciated. Thanks for introducing this fabulous house to me. I like that Pizzicato Bliss smells like a mock orange tree in full bloom. My neighbor had one growing in her garden, and yes the scent was delightful. Thanks for the opportunity to sniff! Mich USA

  • I live in the US and was not aware of this brand. Thank you for highlighting it. Pizzicato Bliss is a hech of a name, and I always love fig.

  • redwheelbarrow says:

I’ve never heard of this house and I don’t think I’ve ever eaten or smelled quince but all of these fruits sounds so perfect. I love that this is long lasting yet light enough for summer. And fig! The lemon showing at the middle notes is interesting and I’m not sure I’ve experienced that in a fragrance. Thank you for the draw. I’m in the US.

  • I’m not familiar with the house but I’m
very interested in organic perfume houses so I’m grateful for the introduction. I’m also a really big fan of the fig note and this one sounds gorgeous. I’m in the US. I’ll
Certainly be looking into this house.

  • I rarely hear of quince or quince blossom being used in a scent. And it’s very unusual to have lemon as anything other than a top note. Altogether, sounds like a gorgeous combination of notes. Also, it’s surprising that this is an all-natural line. I hadn’t heard of Prosody before. (USA)

  • I want to fall headfirst into a fig grove. I love figs and am wishing I had planted a tree when I first moved into my house, it would be so much farther along now. I’ve lately been fascinated by Galbanum in fragrance. I love the comparison to the Garden of Eden and that it was in Lauryn’s top 10 list. I’m not familiar with this line. USA.

  • Oooh, this was a great introduction to Prosody London perfumes. This line seems to have such a distinct and stylish character, especially as a stand-out among all-natural perfumes. By the time the review was wrapping up with an acknowledgement of their “beeswax-floral” signature I had their website open in another tab. The list of notes is very striking, and would be whether or not it was an all-natural! I’ve never smelled quince blossom, and I am always intrigued when galbanum pops up on the list, and I’m so drawn to the sleek bottle design. I’m in the US. Thanks for the draw and also for highlighting this cool new-to-me perfume line!

  • flosolentia says:

Quince is a fairly rare component used in perfumery, so it is surprising that the perfumer managed to play with this note so beautifully adding such components as orange blossom, pear and even bitter galbanum. I really like it and I imagine some kind of Garden of Eden when I read this article!

  • From Lauryn’s review, Prosody London Pizzicato Bliss seems to be a heavenly perfume. I like that it is vegan and organic and comes in a beautiful bottle. Unfortunately, no experience with Prosody London perfumes, yet, but would love to some day. I don’t have much experience with fig perfumes, either, so winning this draw would be lovely. Thanks for the review and draw. Writing from the USA.

  • I’ve only heard of this fragrance house (by means of this website), but I haven’t tried any of their releases yet. Being an environmentalist, I like the idea of natural perfumery, and I’m interested to see what fragrances from this company are like. According to Lauryn’s review, I believe that I’d enjoy this fruity, floral, resinous, etc. fragrance, and I also got the impression that I’d probably like to wear this one all day long and all night long. I live in MD., U.S.A.

  • I love the sweet, sour, juicy, creamy figs and I love them in perfumery. This one sounds to be the perfect summer fruity fragrance. I’m currently in Romania.

  • wallygator88 says:

Thank you for the beautiful review Lauryn.

This seems like such an apt spring fragrance and I love how much enthusiasm this review conveys. That galbanum note has me wanting to sniff this fragrance and see how it balances out all the fruity tops.

I wish I could have smelt more from this house before,

    Cheers from WI, USA

  • The different fruits and florals are very intriguing in Pizzicato Bliss. I also liked the analogy to the Garden of Eden before it all went wrong. I wasn’t familiar with Prosody London, so I have some work to do. I live in the USA.

  • Michael Prince says:

What strikes me about Prosody Pizzicato Bliss is that it’s an organic and all natural line. I am also a huge fan of fig fragrances…especially in the Spring so this sounds perfect to me. Prior to this blog I was not familiar with Prosody London all natural, vegan perfumes. I am from the USA.

  • I’m in the US and I’ve never tried this house. I love the description of this as heady and luxurious but not oppressive–sounds perfect for the warmer weather to come. Thank you to Prosody for the site code!
