In each Orthodox monastery, the Patriarch (think something like the Pope, but sparklier and more local) has, reserved, ample personal quarters perpetually awaiting his arrival. Normally empty and always dark, they sit unused; daily, fervent pilgrims clean them while muttering prayers. Preemptively, everything is considered sacred and treated as already infused with divine influence: gazes are down, voices are whispered, steps and gestures are measured and minimal, as to not disturb the sanctity that might be. Needless to say, nothing was that sacred for the kid me—not even the painfully official, nationally-renowned, carefully-maintained Patriarch’s apartment in the middle of the Sinaia monastery. Neighboring it yearly on account on my father’s lifelong friendship with the head monk, I’d sneak the heck upon the walnut furniture which, having never been abused in such a manner, would often succumb under the wild pressures of my energetic jumps; plush carpets would groan with sticky stains, and the windows, dangerously wide and temptingly clean, would periodically need changing for reasons too evident to describe here.

The summer I turned 6 is wrapped in as much Sinaia memory as my mind then would allow me to store–and if I didn’t know better, I’d still be trying to find meaning to the otherwise benign signs of a banale cognitive leap of an otherwise hyperactive kid-me brain. Instead, allow me to share that, for precisely as long as we vacationed in the somber quarters of the absent Patriarch that summer, I decided to go sleepwalking.

The yard was round, kid-vast and made of cobblestone that bent and sloped at the edges, leaving the top point to be a small circle of bricks smack in the middle and right in front of the church steps. It’s where the priest would stand in most important ceremonies; it’s also where I woke up one night from my walking slumber, barefooted, and chilled by the most horrific yowls. Like in some sordid horror movie, right on the steps there sat a feral cat; it was mating season, and the cold stones of the prayer palace provided just the right echo for the profane feline to be summoning paramours.

Atelier des Ors Lune Feline review

Creative direction and digital editing by a_nose_knows for Atelier des Ors Lune Feline

I have not re-lived the rippling waves of filtered reality since my odd awakening that night, until I processed Atelier des Ors Lune Feline. All-enveloping and as strong as the mountain air, it gave me the same chills and the same odd feeling I’m not where I’m supposed to be, yet I’m partaking in a scene that, while not mine, per se, I can call myself lucky to have witnessed. The opening, thus, is invasive and sudden, unexpectedly thick, and real in ways that usually are only possible in dreams: sharp pepper, terpenic bits, some cold smoke, and green cardamom cut through wet wood, running amok. My nose was put in hyperalert by this phase; I was not expecting this sort of awakening, and definitely not this sort of cold—but the shock was exciting and refreshing.

The second bit is transitional and clarifying, like getting a lens in focus or like getting adjusted to the dark; life comes from both the fragrance itself (which starts to warm up with rounded resins and sweeter spices) and from my own expectations being met, as the formula divulges bits you’d want at this point: hard woods, salty stones, and open air on one hand, and fur, herb tea, leather handles, and potted plants on another.

The third wave, rounded and settled like a return to bed, is balanced and atemporal, just enough of everything to be both familiar and perpetually noticeable: the vanilla is just, the woods are finally polished, the balsams are mellowed and the spices ground. There’s also a faint floralcy that sometimes sings juicy to me, and sometimes, pulverulent like frankincense powder; the blend is gauzy in a photographic way… relevant through itself. Like a memory.

Official notes: cardamom, cinnamon, pink pepper, ambergris, woodsy notes, styrax, cedar, green notes, Tahitian vanilla, Peru balsam, musk

Other perceived notes: petrol, wet stones, geranium flowers, wax, sugar, metal, smoke

Disclaimer: Lune Feline provided by Atelier des Ors. Much appreciated, and right at home in my growing, curatorial vanilla collection. Thank you.

Lune Feline is one of those great fragrances where the sum is greater than the parts, all of the ingredients here work together to form something magical. A vanilla with cattitude, so to speak. Atelier des Ors has been doing interesting things with citruses the last few years, I also especially love their Choeur des Anges and Riviera Drive. Thank you for this chance. USA.

  • I love Dana’s parallel with her childhood memories. Lune Feline was always a fragrance I was very interested in trying. I am especially interested now after reading her perceived notes of petrol and wet stones. I’m from Illinois, US.

  • IcarusMidAir says:

As I was reading Dana’s (always captivating) story, I felt as though I was watching a thriller. Almost expecting something or someone to jump at me from between the lines.
The fragrance sounds like a complex gem, I would love to get my nose on it! I have yet to explore any of the Atelier des Ors fragrances.
    I am based in Romania.

  • Clausewriter says:

I loved dana’s vivid description of sleepwalking in the mountain air near a monastery to describe her sensory disorientation. I have not tried any Atelier des Ors perfume before, and I would love to try this! I live in Florida, USA.

  • Atelier des Ors Lune Feline is a woody vanilla spicy fragrance that reminds us that vanilla and spice are in again and the gourmany-style is here to stay for a while. The review confirms what I have read about Lune Feline elsewhere that vanilla is one of the star notes in this composition. USA.

  • Dubaiscents says:

I love the uniqueness of this scent as so many of this lovely brand are. I agree with Dana, the start is quite a surprise with it’s almost metallic note. I love the cozy musks that match the name so well. It is so creative and unlike anything I’ve smelled before! Thank you for the draw, I love several from this house including Larmes du Desert which I own. I’m in the US.

  • My favorite part of Dana’s review was her description of Lune Feline’s opening and how it put her on alert. How she described how the opening notes did this for her scent experience was expressive.
I have tried atelier des ors Lune Féline, rouge Saray, rosé omeyyade, and pomelo Riviera. They are all exquisite.
I live in Oregon, USA and would love love love to win the bottle of Lune Feline. I’m in love with the cardamon vanilla notes in it that remind me of baking Finnish pulla.

  • I liked the olfactory associations with dana’s dreams and the mystery surrounding both the dreams and the perfume. The notes in Atelier des Ors Lune Feline sound lovely, and mysterious, touching our inner, hidden side. And the bottle is very pretty too. Haven’t tried Atelier des Ors perfumes, yet, but would love to try this. Thanks for the generous draw and lovely review. Writing from the USA.

  • fleurdetilleul says:

“Perceived notes” is a very interesting concept! It’s true that I always think of what notes I perceive beside or instead of the ones that are listed too except I wasn’t very conscious of it. It always makes me wonder if it’s just my nose or if they just don’t mention the note I perceive, especially since I know that they don’t mention all of them. Reading about perceived notes makes a perfume a lot more intriguing and interesting! I’d love to be the winner of this bottle. Thank you for the chance! I live in the EU.

  • Wow. All I can say is that Dana was a wild child. lol But the timeliness of the sleepwalking experiences certainly hints at the possibility of encounters with what I like to call “adjunct domains of reality” – ADOR for short. Chilling perhaps, but most definitely a DOORway to expanding our perceptions of illusory form. But what imagery to introduce a perfume! I definitely get the herbal tea and leathery aspects of Lune Feline in the mid and the overall quality of the vanilla is quite obviously pierced by a grounded cardamom. But Dana’s allusion to the strength of mountain air (and perhaps its freshness) in the opening is certainly apt! Partly why it’s my favourite from the brand, lest I try Bois Sikar this year and confess myself enamoured… We shall see. For now, I lay content to meow at the moon in search of further ADORing experiences to shatter aged expectations of a foody vanilla. Tres bon. Canada.

  • Sorohan Adriana says:

Thank you Dana for the wonderful evening in which she twice fascinated me both in the wonderful stories about perfume in Haul on Youtube, and here where she aroused my memories of Sinaia.
Sinaia is the place where you feel especially blessed at the Sinaia monastery and the princess in the garden of Peles Palace where you can feel the warm and fresh breeze of conifers but also the sweetness of the queen’s perfume.

  • I enjoyed reading about dana’s memories of the monestary and how she was able to have fun inside. Her perceived notes are always interesting, and the pics are also. Thanks for the opportunity to try Lune Feline. Mich USA

  • Hello,

Such a lovely review, just like always. Thank you! I like the story about the cat…oh… It was terrific 😉 Officially provided notes and perceived notes – good idea! The opening sounds intriguing, then tahitian vanilla sounds interesting because this type of vanilla is the most vibrant.

Ps. Please correct the date of closing

  • patrick_348 says:

what a vivid description! i like how dana described both the notes and the feelings that the progression of notes evokes. She described them almost like they were three movements of a musical composition–the first loud and jarring, the second clear and melodic, and the final one relaxed and soothing. I have not tried an Atelier
des Ors perfume before, but would surely like to try this one. I live in the US, in North Carolina.

  • Scent persists beyond all other memories. It has something to do with the more direct processing of olfactory signals: the most raw sense? I love the contrast in imagery between the cool dark stones and the cosy nostalgia of vanilla. Frankincense and vanilla together sounds divine.

I am still waiting to try Atelier des Or. Canada.

  • Your review has jolted stores of deep childhood memories. It was true magic, and now I want to experience it again through this fragrance. I don’t have any Atelier des Ors perfumes. I’m in Maryland

  • Sounds like the monastery was a wonderful place to play and explore as a young child. The tri-phasic waves dana describes in the unfolding of the perfume is interesting; an invasive opening, a clarifying transition and a settled finale. The bottle design is gorgeous! Commenting from MD, USA.

  • Always enjoy Dana’s writing and of course I read it all in her voice. I don’t have any fragrances from this house but this sounds like a wonderful introduction since I really like vanilla in fragrances but only when it’s well blended and paired with other notes and this sounds like it fits the bill. I would love to win the draw and of course if I do I will be picturing that cat when I wear it! I’m in Florida USA

  • Loved Dana’s childhood memories and the car being brought back by the fragrance. Luna Feline isn’t favorite of their line. In Vieginia, USA and thanks for the draw.

  • Gabriel Garcia says:

Great review, I found so interesting and fun to read, especially the other perceived ingredients like, wet stones, sugar, petrol, metal and smoke!

  • An interesting reveal of one’s childhood juxtaposed with the development of Lune Feline. I had the unmitigated pleasure of trying this once and could only wish that I could own it. Here is a vanilla with attitude. Thanks to Dana for a fascinating review and oh so many thanks to Atelier des Ors for making this draw possible. My fingers and toes are crossed. I’m in the USA

  • Bryant Worley says:

I really enjoyed Dana’s description of how the fragrance would take over the olfactory senses – – “The opening, thus, is invasive and sudden, unexpectedly thick, and real in ways that usually are only possible in dreams: sharp pepper, terpenic bits, some cold smoke, and green cardamom cut through wet wood, running amok.”

“life comes from both the fragrance itself (which starts to warm up with rounded resins and sweeter spices) and from my own expectations being met, as the formula divulges bits you’d want at this point: hard woods, salty stones, and open air on one hand, and fur, herb tea, leather handles, and potted plants on another.”

“The third wave, rounded and settled like a return to bed, is balanced and atemporal, just enough of everything to be both familiar and perpetually noticeable: the vanilla is just, the woods are finally polished, the balsams are mellowed and the spices ground.”

I’ve never tried any Atelier des Ors perfume before, and I live in Waldorf, Maryland, USA.

  • So visual that it hurts! Childhood memories about old furniture, dark rooms and scents of frankincense, wax, dusty wood and fireplace bustle in my head. I’ve never tried anything from Atelier des Ors, but this one is on the list for a long time, with no success of finding it anywhere near. I live in Romania, EU.

  • ah the childhood sleepwalking.
    i’ve done that.
    in spain (among other places.)

the imagery and the scent profile, not to mention the artwork —
i’d love to try this 🙂

    socal.

  • It was interesting to read about Dana’s experience staying in the monetary and particularly sleepwalking and awakening to literal cat calls of a feral cat. The fact that this fragrance brought up that memory is also interesting and I enjoyed reading about it! I’ve wanted to try Lune Feline for a while now along with Iris Fauve, Choeur Des Anges, and since also reading about it here Rouge Sarây but have not tried any yet. I love vanilla fragrances and Lune Feline is one I’ve heard such amazing things about and that sounds so unique. Thanks so much for the generous draw, from CT USA.

  • I always love how danas reviews read as an intriguing mystery that captivates you and makes you want to know where it ends.

I love the scent , recently my fiancé and I were trying it and on that night our power went out and before we could find the torches we found eachother by the scent trail! Lol

    I’m from Ireland , EU.

  • I had a sample of this 2 years ago and I remember that I was dating a girl at that time and she was in love with this perfume!
Everything was in balance: the vanilla, the spices, my life.
Whilst it makes me remember both great and bad times, it is impossible for me to deny Lune Feline’s qualities.
I am in the EU. Thank you!

  • Andreea Florica says:

I have not tried anything from this house, but heard and read only good things. Their bottles are really stylish and I am sure I would like this one. Vanilla, ambergris, cinnamon, cardamom… what’s there not to like?
    Many thanks from Romania.

  • I’ve been watching this house like a cat for some time now, but I have yet to pounce. Many of their offerings are very intriguing and the bottles are just gorgeous. I enjoyed the line about feeling like a trespasser, being where you are not supposed to be. It sounds like another great release! I am from Canada!

  • I love the way Dana’s story leads the reader to the moment that describes such a familiar human sensation – bearing witness to something in a place you aren’t meant to be. Lune Feline sounds deliciously complex, shape shifting on your skin like a cat slinking around in the night. Thank you from the US.

  • Dana tells such a specific, detailed, and vivid memory recalled by this scent, it’s enchanting. Also, I’m glad she lists so many “phantom” notes, it adds more dimension to the review and the story. I’ve watched some of her videos and I’m happy to call myself a fan. Never tried any Atelier des Ors, myself, but if Dana loves this then there’s a good chance I will, too.
    (USA)

  • I really liked the addition of Dana’s perceived notes. If think those say more about a fragrance than the official notes. I tried Lune Feline once a while ago and I remember being impressed by the cardamom-laced vanilla and incense. Also, the bottle is stunning! I live in Denmark, EU.

  • Vanillander65 says:

I love how Dana can tell us a story in a way that we can see every step taken. Being able to describe a childhood memory so beautifully is definitely a gift.
Lune Feline sounds like the perfect vanilla scent, deep and spicy. I would love to try it and feel everything that Dana experienced when she first gave it a nose.
I have not tried an Atelier des Ors fragrance yet.
Thank you for this amazing review!
    Based in EU 🙂

  • I. Don t know or had any of the atelier des ors perfumes. So that will be a great chance to get in touch with one of the creations, ofcourse if I win 🙂

  • Dana’s review transribe perfectly the atmosphere of Lune Féline. There is this dichotomy with this kind of building. It can be soothing and at time the most frightening of places. It’s also what I felt with my sample of Lune Féline. It change with every wearing, from being extremelly conforting, to scary and oppressing. But always so beautiful.
    From EU.

  • I love the uniqueness of this scent as so many of this lovely brand are. I agree with Dana, the start is quite a surprise with it’s almost metallic note. I love the cozy musks that match the name so well. It is so creative and unlike anything I’ve smelled before! Thank you for the draw, I love several from this house including Aube Rubis which I own. • Stefan Cretu says:

Immersive, deep and captivating review as always, Dana! Had it for a while, but I miss it already! Greetings from Romania

  • Claumarchini says:

I really enjoyed the tale of the episode of Dana’s childhood, and how she used it to describe Lune Feline. I could really imagine myself in the situation, and the notes are beautifully described. It would be amazing to possess this fragrance, thank you for the great opportunity! I live in Milan, Italy

Other perceived notes: petrol, wet stones, geranium flowers, wax, sugar, metal, smoke. I am intrigued by the notes perceived notes petrol, wax, smoke and metal. My favourite from this house is Rose Ommeyade. Thanks a million from the United Kingdom

  • Another captivating story by Dana. I love reading about how this reminds her of her childhood. I completely understand because fragrances bring back some of my fondest memories too.

I’m a big fan of musk in fragrance when it’s not too animalic. When it’s soft and almost creamy it is such a comfortable sensation! This sounds very creative and unlike anything I’ve smelled before. I can’t wait to test it!

I have tested Larmes du Désert and Cuir Sacré before but do not own a bottle yet.

    I live in the UK!

  • There’s also a faint floralcy that sometimes sings juicy to me, and sometimes, pulverulent like frankincense powder; the blend is gauzy in a photographic way… relevant through itself. Like a memory.

  • Have not tried any Atelier des Ors perfume yet but I would love to. I really enjoy reading how Dana related this perfume to her sleepwalking experience.
    Florida, USA

  • I enjoyed reading Dana’s review, as what I’ve always found fascinating about fragrances is that they are capable to make us associate a smell with a memory and trigger emotions that we think forgotten but that only need the right notes to come out again. This fragrances seems very seductive, I love vanilla fragrances and this vanilla, with cardamom and balsam notes, sounds beautifully magnetic and animalic, like the name suggests.
I’ve smelled a couple of Atelier des Ors creations, but I don’t own any, so I would love to have the chance to try this one.
Thanks a lot from the UK

  • This is the first time I imagine that a perfume could smell like a cold night in the mountains, yet cozy and familiar, like a piece of ADN info.
I haven’t tried any Atelier des Ors perfume before.
    Hugs from Romania

  • Wow, what a review! The first part interspersed with what I perceived as strange and primal art, but quite alluring. I too know of the idolatrous feeling in old monasteries, also having visited them as a child.
Dana, beautiful review, I felt like I could smell the perfume if I closed my eyes, you describe it so well, but I couldn’t because your words and your art were drawing me in. Thank you for this experience. I have not checked out any of their perfumes, but I plan to. From Romania with love

  • I haven’t tried anything yet from this fragrance house, but I’ve heard of them many times this year. I’m interested in trying all of their fragrances. It seems like Dana has a good fragrance collection, and, within her collection, she seems to have some of the better fragrances which have vanilla as a prominent note, and this fragrance sounds like it belongs in that part of her collection. I’d like to try this one myself. I live in MD., U.S.A.

  • I hate perfumes where vanilla is used disproportionately but I will be interested in wearing this perfume because Dana says: “the vanilla is just, the woods are finally polished, the balsams are mellowed and the spices ground”. I have already smelled Iris fauve, Musc immortel and Larmes du désert at Jovoy, which I liked very much. I live in France, EU.

  • I like cats and I like vanilla, a lot. So this would be a great one to have. I have tried many from this house and enjoy those many. US

  • It’s interesting to hear stories behind fragrances it adds to the allure of scent memories. I always appreciate that and this review accomplished that well. I’m from the US and I’ve sampled Line Feline and really enjoyed it. Vanilla fragrances are my favorite.

  • pimpompompam says:

I love the photos, I love the bottle and i love all the magic here. I gotta have this one. If I dont win it I will buy it! thank u for showing me this I have not known it.

  • Dana is such a creative writer! I love how she weaves the story in her childhood with Lune Feline. I agree with her that this beautiful fragrance is like a memory. The notes are transporting and beautiful. This is my favorite from this line. My decant is almost gone. I also like Rouge Saray. Thank you for the chance to wina bottle of this lucious juice. USA

  • Always love to read Dana’s reviews and the stories from her childhood. Have never tried any Atelier des Ors perfume before. I live in Romania.

  • I loved the story of profane childhood fun and somnambulism. The fragrance sounds truly haunting and capable of transporting one dimensionally. I am in the US and have not tried any Atelier des Ors perfume.

  • maria mihalache says:

    Happy new year!
I like how she weaves childhood memories about the magical atmosphere of the church both inside and outside, various ceremonies with cats and perfume, and all in Dana’s description are perfectly chained.
I have never tried any Atelier des Ors perfume before. I’m from Romania ,EU

  • I really like the pics! The notes also sound interesting, particulary that note of wet stone. Reminder for myself: next time I go near a river, or after a rain, to make sure to pick up a stone and smell it to see how it really smells 🙂

I am in Europe. Thanks for the draw!

  • Mihaela Ichim says:

The review is so expressive that I could buy this perfume without testing it and I am sure that I will love it! Dana is a wonderful story-teller. I will try this scent as soon as I will find it. I live in Roumania !

  • I think I know these weird feelings that a church gives you. As a child I experienced such a stay, through pilgrimages to monasteries … Dana ‘s review awakens my memories and intrigues me and makes me want to try the perfume! Wet stones sounds good to me! Never tried Atelier des Ors.

  • Jed Or Alive says:

I really appreciated Dana relating the fragrance to her childhood memories. The description of the perfume itself is intriguing as well – an exciting shock putting her nose on hyper alert. My current favorite from Atelier des Ors is Choeur Des Anges. Located in California, US.

  • I liked the (unexpected) sacred-profane contrast… and I can only imagine what the narrator felt as a child to witness the cat’s cry in the middle of the night, in such a place, “desacralizing” the surroundings with each echo.
It’s actually written in a very much Eliade-sque vein!
That being said, I love perfumes that have the power to awaken long forgotten memories in us. It only happened a few times in my life – though I have never tried any of
Atelier des Ors’ perfumes, so who knows, maybe one of their scents will have that effect on me too ^-^
    I’m EU based (Spain)

What an incredible tale, was that fiction? It all seemed so impossible to replicate. Anyhow, I’ve heard this fragrance is an incredible with its use of vanilla and would love to have the opportunity to win it. From the USA. Thanks

  • Thank you, dana, for sharing your surreal experience with such vividness, and relating it to the transcendental feeling that you got from Lune Feline. I’m intrigued by your description of how you envisioned the scent – different facets of notes emerging and fading just like adjusting the focal lens on a camera – and it sounds like a fascinating, dynamic experience which I would love to try out.

I’ve tried Choeur des Anges and really enjoyed the juicy citrus notes mixed with the sweet caramel accord! I live in the UK, and thank you for hosting the giveaway!

  • This passage “All-enveloping and as strong as the mountain air, it gave me the same chills and the same odd feeling I’m not where I’m supposed to be, yet I’m partaking in a scene that, while not mine, per se, I can call myself lucky to have witnessed.” Is just great writing and the reason why I so frequently visit cafleurebon 🙂 keep writing things like that and my list of things to try will never end! Thank you Atelier des Ors and cafleurebon for the chance! Iowa, USA

  • Thank you for taking me on this journey dana! I love to read your reviews- your creative mind and how you find the perceived notes in this scent inspires, the next time I have a sample I am going to close my eyes and try to open my mind to them. I would like to enter this drawing as I truly love the vanilla here. From NY

  • Hrm! I love the idea of a vanilla perfume that shocks in the opening before settling into something comforting and rounded in its base and creates a sort of disassociate state of being in between.

I’ve had out of body sleep paralysis experiences very briefly, only when extremely fatigued, and found them a little bit unnerving but also fascinating.

I love Jorum Studio Phloem, which has an unholy cacaphony of notes in the opening and finishes as something totally different than where it started, for a similar effect. It’s quite compelling but not quite comfortable, hahahaha!

Thanks for bringing this review, Dana! Vanilla gourmands are a bit much for me but this perfume sounds fascinating.

    In Canada.

  • vickalicious says:

I’ve tried a few from Atelier des Ors, all within the past year, and Lune Feline is my favorite that I’ve tried! I like how Dana connected this fragrance back to childhood memories. I also appreciate that she listed out perceived notes–I also get a petrol and smoke like vibe from this one, whic I think makes it interesting and unique. This is definitely a fragrance I would love to add to my collection! Thank you for the post and the giveaway! Located in the US.

  • Monastery, hard woods, herb tea, frankincense powder… I like the dark mood of this review, I should read it again while listening to either Leonard Cohen or Nick Cave. And the pictures were good too. ~ Canada

  • The description was so… descriptive! I like how Dana was able to name the notes and the feelings that each gave off. I have never tried an Atelier des Ors fragrance before but many people like them so they must be doing something right. US.

  • Daphnelemon says:

I can definitely see the parallels between the story Dana shared and the evolution of the perfume. A cold toned opening in the description of the church (I really enjoy cardamom so that’s a great start) then the middle of the courtyard encounter with the cat (the swirl of mysterious animal notes and woods) and then the ambers of the return home. It sounds beautiful. I have not tried any atelier des ors perfumes yet. USA

  • Dana’s stories are interesting as always and coherently connected to the subsequent review. Seems like there is an analogy between the “chills down the spine” dimension of the nocturnal stroll and the sharp, cold opening of this very interesting fragrance. It also sounds like a wild concoction: herbs, leather, woods and then more comforting vanilla and resins.
I have tried Iris fauve and Musc Immortel by AdO and love them both.
    I am in the EU.
    Thanks!

  • I’ve never tried any perfume from Atelier des Ors. So far I’ve only been admiring their stunning perfume bottles.
Very visual this review and I loved reading about the memory trigger that this scent played on Dana. It’s one of the many wonderful things about scents, they work as memory triggers.
The notes here seem right up my alley and I would love to try it on.
Many thanks for this draw. I live in France.

  • Not your average review for a fragrance! Quite enigmatic and cryptic. I like the style and the different approach.
I’ve not tested anything from this house, but wouldn’t mind starting with Lune Feline.

  • I like how dana senses very strange things in each fragrance she reviews! In this one, the peculiar notes of petrol, wet stones, wax, metal and smoke stand out! I really want to try Lune Feline after reading this review!

Thank you for the wonderful review and for the opportunity of winning this beauty!

  • I love Atelier des Ors very much- beautiful, balanced and soft perfumes, even woody Larmes du Desert.
Especially Lune Feline my favorite from this house- I adore its tender touch of ambergris, balsamic and vanilla notes.
Thank you for review and giveaway.

  • Oh wow! In Greece , where I live, there are thousands of monasteries , and it always feels so mystical visiting one. You have to keep your voice down, you have to change into different clothes , you have to look down most of the times , in order to show humility and repent. All the monasteries are really well kept, with magnificent gardens and products made by the nuns and monks , with respect towards Mother Nature (after all, everything is God’s creation…). I can only imagine how impressed Dana’s young mind must have been visiting the monastery , albeit little Dana seemed a little cheeky!!

It’s wonderful to see how Dana relates that experience she had that day with a fragrance , the parallel is like an olfactory deja-vu!

I haven’t tried anything by Atelier des Ors yet. I do have a sample set coming my way , it’s just taking longer than usual , due to the circumstances…I would love to win Lune Feline, it sounds so right for me!

  • I don’t know Lune Feline but the text makes me think that sometimes in dreams it smells like this. Thanks! from EU

  • Dana’s captivating story piqued all of my attention. What a way with the words she has…! Such a wonderful Sunday treat. I love the experience of reencoutering deeply – ingrained- but- nearly- forgotten memories and emotions. The fragrances are a great means to recreating the image of old times and places. The analogy between the development of fragrance and the experience of sharp awaking up and going back to bed is masterfully written. Dana’s childhood memory made me think of my travel through the city of Sinaia on the way from Brasov to Bucharest 20 years ago. I, unfortunately, cannot recollect any scents off the top of my head from the journey, but I remember the magnificent countryside and the great people I met.
I have had the pleasure to sniff Rouge Saray by Atelier des Ors and I have many of their perfumes on »my sniff in 2021 list«. Since I am a lover of green notes and vanilla Lune Feline seems a fragrance very compatible with my particular taste. Cheers from Slovenia (EU).

  • Atelier des Ors Lune Feline is a wonderful mix of woody vanilla and spices. It’s a very cozy fragrance – like Dana, I appreciate the drydown when it’s sending gentle reminders. It’s a long lasting but not a loud fragrance. Thank for for the draw, I would like to participate. I live in Finland.

  • I enjoyed the parallel to Dana’s childhood memories. Somehow, I keep remembering childhood scents and when I sense them again at this age, it makes me very happy.
I have not tried yet a ln Atelier de ls Ors scent.
    I live in EU, Romania.
    Great pics!

  • This sounds like a true gem and when looking at that bottle that looks an adventure to dive into. Really love Dana’s story as always especially the parralel with childhood memories. Would be so happy to try this!! Living in the EU

  • Vanilla sounded never that interesting like Dana pictured it in Lune Feline’s story.
I have my own “proustian madelaine” so i totally get how the first met of a smell can pull you back in time in a place well hidden in your memories…
Never tried Atelier des Ors so maybe that can be a first from the brand, considering that it also have cedar and cinnamon , some of my fav notes in Parfumerie.
Living in beautiful and veeeery cold Finland.

  • Cezara Alexandra says:

Dana told us her childhood memories are strongly related to this fragrance and I must say I have a bunch of scents that take me back with the first sniff. I agree that it is hard to find a fragrance so unknownly familiar that it can take you back so easily. Amazing!
I have not tried any Atelier des Ors perfumes, but I hope I’ll have a chance to do so. I live in Europe, Romania.

  • Hashim Madani says:

I sampled several Atelier des Ors fragrances; Lune Feline is my absolute favorite and is high up on my ‘must buy’ list. What struck a chord with me from Dana’s review is exactly what I remember the fragrance to be, ‘warm with rounded resins.’ The gorgeous and ever-present Tahitian vanilla takes this fragrance to another level in my opinion. Love it! VA, USA.

  • Land Clemons says:

Such an alluring review. Love it! I’m in for the opening. Sharp spicy opening with cardamom and semi-sweet vanilla. Right up my alley. Thanks for the review and thanks for the opportunity!

  • One of the great things about fragrances is how it can tap into an emotional memory such as dana’s childhood sleepwalking story. I would love for this to be my first experience with Atelier des Ors. I live in Indiana, where summer nights are perfect for sleepwalkers.

  • Kiet Truong says:

Oh my god I love Lune Feline and Dana described it exactly like it is, such an amazing vanilla and the bottle with gold flakes is gorgeous. I bought a sample and fell in love with it. It’s different from Nishane Ani as it is thicket and sweeter in my opinion. Would love to win a full bottle! Texas, USA

  • kkarnes1986 says:

The description of Dana’s childhood memory compared to the scent was amazing, I loved the parallel. I don’t have any experience with Atelier des Ors but would love to win this bottle to try them out. I love in Ohio USA.

  • Never tried anything from Atelier des Ors before, but that review makes Lune Feline sound very intriguing. I love story and the list of notes. But I am particularly attracted to the comparison to frankincense powder. I often think of vanilla fragrances as straightforward and simple, but this one sounds delightfully complex and subtle. I’m in Oklahoma, USA. Thanks for the draw!

  • I know Bois Sikar from Atelier des Ors and I find it quite challenging and different. I wonder if Lune Feline is on the same page as Bois Sikar.
I am in Romania, Europe. Thank you!

  • Interesting review! I haven’t had the chance to sample Atelier des Ors, but Lune Feline sounds right up my alley with those notes of cardamom, ambergris, musk and, of course, vanilla. Thanks!

  • Cristea Camelia says:

There is something about the way Dana described her child memories, the photos and even the olfactory experience exposed above that reminded me of Shirley Jackson and her book “The haunting of Hill House”. Both readings gave me thrills and kept me concerned about what could happen the next minute.
    Love from EU

  • Cold smoke, green, a shock: this is not the description I expected to hear of Lune Feline’s opening, but it is a description that makes me immediately more keen to smell this creation. I like to be surprised and those words were quite surprising, especially given what I usually expect from a fragrance with vanilla.

I have not yet sampled Atelier des Ors but eager to do so this year and have them on my ever-growing to-be-smelled list. 🙂 In the US.

  • Lune Feline is really an iconic fragrance that will pass the test of time. It is a special, easy to recognize fragrance, powerful and truly a statement fragrance. Although some say it is similar to POAL, I find it quite different and unique. The composition is three dimensional and evolves very interesting on the skin, like a veil of vanilla and musk, that somehow makes me see it like a gourmand fragrance. I currently live in Romania.

I have been interested in Lune Feline for a few years now, but this 3 phase breakdown was the best one I’ve heard. I own Larmes du Desert. New Jersey, USA

  • redwheelbarrow says:

I loved this story and how you correlate it to this fragrance. But what a terrifying way to wake up! This fragrance has been on my radar to try and I’m even more intrigued now by your description of the three very different stages. Thanks for the draw. I’m in the US.

I always enjoy Dana’s reviews, one never knows what adventure she is going to take us on but unusual circumstances and unpredicted happenings are sure to be expected. It must have been an extraordinary experience for a kid to be standing in the middle of a cobbled monastery courtyard amidst a dark night, having no one but a strange yowling cat as a companion. I have been wanting to try Lune Feline for a couple of years so this is an amazing opportunity. I have not tried any Atelier des Ors fragrances as of yet. Thank you from Ireland.

  • I’m amazed by Lune Feline. I’m saying that because I own a sample of it.
Dark smoky vanilla with resins is my impressions of it . Unlike Dana , leather, fur and salty stones i do not perceive. Lasting power is exceptional, projection really good.
I thought I was a vagabond as a kid , but I guess Dana was even better than me in doing this 🙂
    Excited for this giveaway, USA
    Regards

  • I liked how dana describes Lune Feline in three phases: the shock, the adjustment, and then the settling in. It sounds like a journey I would like to try. I haven’t tried any Atelier des Ors perfumes before, but am quite curious. I live in the USA.

  • Such a thrilling and exciting recollection by dana. Really loved reading it and if Lune Feline is anything as seductive as danu’s story then I must try it. I’ve never tried Atelier des Ors before and Lune Feline sounds phenomenal. Marit in the UK

  • Amanda32828 says:

Love reading Dana’s recollection about her sleepwalking memoir but mostly I enjoyed reading her personal experience with the perfume itself. I have to say that to me Lune Feline is a sort of magical and mysterious potion. Something unreal maybe with extraordinary powers. It could be the magical potion of a sorceress…I don’t know.
But I know that I have been lucky enough to try this perfume in more than one occasion and I totally love it. Thank you for another great review and for the opportunity to participate in the draw. Commenting from Orlando, Fl. USA.

  • Juan_hernan says:

It was really cool seeing how the story Dana shared and the evolution of the perfume went together. It was also so interesting seeing how the cardamom plays out in the fragrance. I have not tried any Atelier des Ors perfumes before. FL USA

  • Beautiful and vivid description of the phases of this perfume. I especially enjoyed the description of the third phase as “rounded and settled like a return to bed.” Thank you for this review & draw. I’m in the US.

  • wallygator88 says:

Thank you for the beautiful review Dana.

I did find the story of your childhood experiences at the monastery played in very well in this review, like a lens opening it up for magnification.

Atelier Der Ors (IMO) seems to have scents that focus on one or two materials and are generally more linear, which I enjoy a lot on cooler weather.

I sort of wonder if this is the case with Lune Feline. At any rates, the notes are gorgeous.

I have tried Atelier des Ores Iris Fauve and like it a lot.

    Regards from WI, USA

  • Michael Prince says:

I found Dana’s review of Atelier des Ors Lune Feline interesting because of how she is able to tell a story and capture your attention and relate that story into a detailed description of how the fragrance smells. I haven’t tried anything from Atelier des Ors. I am from the USA.

  • Good old days, being a carefree child was so much fun . I do have such fun stories myself 🙂
Smelled 2 Atelier des Ors creations and Lune Feline is my favorite , even though Bois Sikar is pretty good too.
For every gourmand and vanilla lover – try Lune Feline . One of the best vanilla fragrance ever created. And I know vanilla well being traditionally trained in Paris Pastry Chef.
Remindes me of Cinnamon and cardamom rolls, every Pastry Chef learns as a beginner. I sell a lot at the bakery. The fragrance is also smoky, it’s interesting why it’s not part of the “official” notes ?!? There’s no question about it, smoke is present in Lune Feline.
Appreciate the review, Dana story, and the giveaway campaign

  • Another remarkable and visually rich perfume review by Dana. It seems that dreams tend to be the most vivid during our childhood and just reading about this incredible somnambular journey from her youth being likened to Lune Feline, makes me want to experience this fragrance all over again. I haven’t tried many fragrances from Atelier des Ors, just Lune Feline and Larmes du Desert, but the quality of this house is evident. Thanks so much for the wonderful chance to own Lune Feline. I’m in Oregon, US.

  • IvanVelikov says:

Dana’s stories are making my day, each and every time.
I like sweet fragrance, but this time I’m happy to know gourmand notes are present, but still restrained. Spices , tea and leather I’m certain will make Lune Feline multifaceted fragrance suitable for all occasions .
To me Atelier Des Ors equals class , beauty and creativity , but most importantly equals Rose Omeyyade . If i have to describe it with one word it will be phenomenal. Not only it smells gorgeous , but gets me huge amount of compliments. I do not wear fragrances just for compliments , but it’s nice to get noticed .
Thanks Dana – good job , and of course thanks to Atelier Der Ors .

  • I’ve always thought I won’t ever fall for vanilla except the one in pastry & sweets. Same went for a number of ‘ingredients’ that were wrongly disconsidered in my conservative family growing up in post-communist Romania. A perfume encapsulating complex aromas was beyond a girl who was reluctantly wearing generic, never-bothering-never-intriguing-never-lasting type of fragrance..and as years passed, here I am years trying to sniff as many alluring and misterious combinations as possible. Without knowing it, Dana is holding my hand through the maze of burgeoning aromas, which is what happened now with this review. I’ve had my eyes precisely on Lune Feline for a while so thanks for this opportunity! Greetings from Bucharest!

  • This is definitely a very special story with perfectly accompanying pictures that adds a lot to the fragrance that already has an enticing note description. I don’t know if I am able to reproduce similar cognitive experience ever again, but perhaps I could relive it through an olfactory experience. I live RI, US.

  • I love the way dana weaves stories from her childhood into her perfume reviews. I read breathlessly about the Sinaia monastery and the sleepwalking incident with the feral cat. The story, with its dreamlike elements, perfectly matches the notes of Lune Feline. I am very interested in the second stage of the fragrance’s development, the clarifying stage with the leather.
I haven’t tried any Atelier des Ors perfumes.
    I live in the USA.

  • Modern take on “One Thousand and One Nights” . Dana review was like a folktale with Romanian touches in it haha . I like all cardamom, vanilla, woods and a bit of saltiness, I’m sure Lune Feline is well made . I don’t know it, but I expect good longevity , all Atelier des Ors I know do last a long time.
Rose Omeyyade is my favorite Atelier des Ors fragrance, birthday gift I received from my sister 2.5 years ago. I’m wearing it on special occasions only.
Thanks to Atelier Does Ors for the chance, and to Dana for her joyful review.

I have been captivated by Lune Feline ever since I first heard of it. I immediately got a sample and it has been at the top of my wishlist since then. This review reminds me of why I fell in love with it. The vivid imagery here captivates me all over again.

I haven’t tried any other Atelier des Ors fragrances.
I would be ecstatic to win this! Thanks for the giveaway!

Haven’t tried any of Atelier des Ors fragrances yet, but hoping that’ll change. Dana is always blowing my mind with so sophisticated reviews, sometime I think that I am not inteligent enought to fully get them 🙂 I’d like to feel this “awakening” Dana felt at the opening. Poland, EU

  • The imagery and description immediately caught my attention because I am a crazy cat lover! I love all those spicy opening notes and I’d love to win this fragrance because I have actually never smelled any scents from Atelier before.
    I live in the US.

  • Such a distinguished style of reviewing Dana has….
Being Atelier des Ors fanboy I have smelled all their fragrances, excluding the two new 2020 ultra special, €990 Extrait limited editions of Rose Omeyyade and Lune Feline .Both I’m eager to try , but I doubt it will be possible anytime soon.
To me regular Lune Feline is gourmand for fragrance connoisseurs. It’s not a mass market gooey modern gourmand , but smoky , spicy and sophisticated instead.
My favorite Atelier des Ors hmmm Bois Sikar maybe?
Dana , Cafleurebon , and Atelier des Ors I already follow on Instagram. I also follow Jean-Philippe Clermont. Thanks
USA only, for now at least , visiting London is a bit complicated , still

What a beautifully chilling picture Dana painted for us. It is as if we were right there with her on the cobblestone walk as she woke to the cats yowls. Dana really captured my attention with “sharp pepper, terpenic bits, some cold smoke, and green cardamom cut through wet wood, running amok. My nose was put in hyperalert by this phase; I was not expecting this sort of awakening, and definitely not this sort of cold—but the shock was exciting and refreshing.” This statement alone makes me want to try Lune Feline even more now than I already wanted to, and I have been wanting to get my nose on this one for a while. I just ordered a few samples from Luckyscent and they should be in this week, one of them (the one I believe I am most excited for), is Rouge Saray… I think this one will be right up my alley. Next on the list is Lune Feline for sure. I have sampled a few of Atelier des Ors creations, including Bois Sikar and the whole Riviera line. I have quite a few from the rest of the range on my list to try as well. They all sound fantastic and I am in love with the ones I have currently smelled. I was so close to blind buying Rouge Saray, but wound up pulling the trigger on another bottle (Gravitas by Naughton & Wilson) first. I am glad I have a sample coming, though, as I plan on buying another one after doing some sampling this week. All this to say, I am definitely interested in the Atelier des Ors line and Lune Feline is one that is at the top of my list. Dana did a superb job reviewing this one for us and her work is greatly appreciated. Thank you to the team at Atelier des Ors for your generosity and for this amazing draw! A special thanks to Michelyn for making this all happen. Without you, none of this would be possible! You are appreciated more than you know. Sending love, warm wishes, and gratitude from Delaware, US. Good luck all and stay safe my fragrant friends!

  • I too had some scary moments with feral cats when I was a young child. Since then , I’m always really careful when I approach cats , feral or not.
Before I tell my best Atelier des Ors fragrances, I have to say sampling the brand, if you want to know the whole range it’s hard if you live in USA. Mid June last year, i finally decided to try all they got, and long story short I ordered samples from Ebay, from Germany. Both official distributors in USA LuckyScent and Osswald do Not carry the whole line , both bottles and samples.
When i got the samples, all Iris Fauve, Rose Omeyyade , Lune Feline and Rouge Saray stood up to me the most.
Iris Fauve is what I decided to buy, and again had to buy it for abroad because it’s not available at both boutiques i mentioned. Rose Omeyyade 20ml decant i also have.
Lune Feline opening and dry down are very different. It starts with a blast of red pepper, almost makes me sneeze, but later becomes cozy sweet woody fragrance . I’d say it’s my third favorite Atelier des Ors.
Thanks Cafleurebon and Dana , and Atelier des Ors for the generosity.
USA, and Germany from time to time

  • Oh great I am not too late !
I loved Dana’s personal journey and her perceived notes. My favorite Atelier des Ors is Iris Fauve and the riviera collection

  • In my early teen years I was on vacation in Ohrid in now called Northern Macedonia. Being careless and light-hearted girl i tried to open every door on the Ohrid Monastery, an actual Eastern Orthodox Monastery, and in one of the rooms we found pool table 🙂 Like Dana i had my fair share of devil-may-cry situations
My gold medal for the best Atelier des Ors fragrance goes to Bois Sikar , silver one to Lune Feline Iris Fauve and bronze to Iris Fauve.
I think Lune Feline is dark incense vanilla with cardamom and just a bit of woods. There’s no leather , tea metal to my nose.
Rouge Saray I really want to try too
    Thanks for the draw
Hopefully soon I’ll go back to my usual routine of back and forth between USA and Scotland
    Cheers from VA
