CaFleureBon Home for The Holidays Gift Guide 2020 illustration by the brilliant Massimo Alfaioli
In Part 1 of the CaFleureBon Holiday Gift Guide 2020, my way of thinking adapted to the times and I rethought what scented gifts would make ANYONE happy. In Part 2, I continue to emphasize independent, artisan perfumers and small business owners. Many of us will be staying home for the Holidays, so it was important that each gift idea provides a personal experience; smell great and promotes selfcare.
Best Perfume Holiday Gifts That Aren’t Perfume
Our Associate Contributor Sandi Lundberg of Meditatio Aromatics quietly and lovingly creates all-natural soaps that she sells to top spas and private clients. Made from organic oils, scented with patchouli, lemongrass, spearmint and peppermint, each soap is hand wrapped in fabric according to the Japanese method of Furoshiki. You can contact Sandi via email, Facebook, or just let me know. A very uplifting and aesthetic bathing experience from a generous perfumista and CaFleureBon team member while you are home for the Holidays. Three 4 oz bars are $30 (all natural)
Got oud? Chances are the answer is no and the “oud” you are smelling in commercial fragrances is a “re-creation” or of poor quality. Real oud is unlike anything you have ever smelled before is truly “The Wood of The gods”. For the oud obsessed perfumista on your list and eh hum who doesn’t have at least one… JK DeLapp of the Rising Phoenix offers some of the best oud oils, but it’s his OUDH INCENSE that I particularly love for their enveloping, calming aroma wafting through my apartment. To make your home smell amazing for the holidays as well as promote self-care and wellness. I recommend SUMBAWA SENKOH incense sticks, which are and sweet and resinous. 5 grams/ $125.00 (all natural)
Wondering why CBD is gaining such momentum as a skincare ingredient? Try Antedotum Vital Face Oil and see for yourself. This is the luxe alternative highlighted by an explosion of citrus. Full disclosure: I am obsessed with the smell! I have been using the face oil at night for five weeks and my skin is noticeably smoother and hydrated. Crafted from 100% organic, small-batch hemp, this sensual solution provides the ultimate in skin healing and restoration (Organic) 1 oz. (30 ml) Retail US $145

Perfumes for the Holidays
With their tenth fragrance recently released, Parfums Dusita have already formed a stunning collection of three extraits and seven eaux de parfum that bear the unique creative signature of founder/perfumer Pissara Umavijani. The Parfums Dusita discovery set houses 9 x 2ml samples in an elegant black case, with the addition of a boxed 2ml sample of the brand-new Moonlight In Chiangmai. It is bound to delight fragrance lovers with the beauty and diversity of the scents included (various florals and orris-centered fragrances, two fougères, a leather chypre, a woody aromatic, and one of the purest oud compositions in the market), while the accompanying 40€ voucher will further motivate them to purchase a bottle. Neela Vermeire Creations Take Two in Trayee: Creative Director Neela Vermeire has a very special place in my heart. She’s one of the kindest, most giving souls and a text from her brightens my day. All her perfumes are must buys, but I chose Trayee because it is grounding for me. I have “monkey mind” and often find it difficult to be still- “in the moment”. I am particularly restless during the holidays. Trayee, meaning “triad” in Sanskrit, is inspired by the first three Vedas, the oldest, most sacred books of India, (its formula contains a high percentage of natural ingredients used in Vedic ceremonies). The sandalwood and oud are of the highest quality; Trayee is a gorgeous, complex blend of spices, resins and flowers that awaken the senses yet is profoundly meditative.
Notes: Top: blue ginger from Madagascar, elemi oil, cinnamon bark, ganja effects, blackcurrant absolute, basil; Heart: Sambac jasmine absolute, Egyptian jasmine absolute, cardamom absolute, clove, saffron, sandalwood; Base: Javanese vetiver, Haitian vetiver, incense, Mysore sandalwood oil, patchouli, myrrh, vanilla, cedar, amber notes, oudh palao from Laos, oakmoss 2 x 15 ml $125

Christi Meshell of House of Matriarch is well-known in the fragrance community. She works with both an all-natural and a mixed-media palette. Recently she won an Art and Olfaction award for Bonsai. While many bloggers have had the pleasure of working with Christi “creatively”, I was honored to be the first when I invited a few Sr. Perfumers at that time (2011) to take part in The Natural Perfume Guild “The Thirteenth Sign” and the boozy absinthe laced Forbidden was born. We worked together again on Antimony for Project Talisman, a multi-perfumer event that celebrated ÇaFleureBon’s 7th birthday; Christi used an astonishing 111 ingredients. Christi takes the guess work out of choosing which of her many perfumes to try with her Best Seller Discovery Kit (including my personal favorite Coco Blanc), Bonsai, Kazimi, Trillium & Beautywood /5 x 3.3.ml
