Ormonde Jayne Tanger Review (Linda Pilkington) 2020 + 20th Anniversary  Draw

Ormonde Jayne Tanger review

On November 20, 20 years ago, perfumer Linda Pilkington registered her perfume house in London, under the name Ormonde Jayne (Jayne being Linda’s middle name and Ormonde the name of the street she used to live on). The house is still independently owned by Linda, and over the years Ormonde Jayne has grown from creating scented candles to one of the most successful niche fragrance houses.

Ormonde Jayne has enjoyed a constant and loyal following, as the fragrant repertoire is constructed both with universal appeal and with a “niche” sensibilities, Linda Pilkington selecting and using rare and  innovative ingredients (they have one of the first fragrances showcasing Oudh, back in 2004 (in Ormonde Man); used Black Hemlock Absolute (Ormonde Woman), Taíf rose, and many others).

To celebrate the 20th anniversary, Ormonde Jayne has created a series of seven unisex fragrances, under the name of “La Route de Soie” – inspired by the extraordinary flora and diversity of the ancient Silk Route (introducing ingredients such as Persian Rose, rhubarb, Armenian Plum,  nutmeg, Indian sandalwood, rum, and peony)

“A thousand years ago, the vast trade paths from Peking to Paris carried more than just silk and precious commodities. Ideas, cultures, and beliefs were shared across continents for the first time: from alcoholic drinks to the number Zero  – as well as science, art, and literature. The Silk Road became a route of dialogue, diversity, and understanding.”- a note from the brand.

Liquid wanderlust, the seven fragrances are an interconnected experience, so I can’t go further without briefly mentioning them, as freeze-frames of imaginary travels:

Byzance: a comforting grown-up gourmand, sultry kajal eyeliner, milky cashmere embrace

Damask: a busy street market in Istambul, plateaus of rosewater- infused multicolored loukhoum, sparkling like sweet sugar-coated jewels

Indus: evening of roses, an antique shop, silver cups filled with plum nectar, incense sticks

Levant: crisp as the morning of the 1002nd night, waking up in a city that stands between the sea and the desert, uplifting, luminous, positive

Xandria: mysterious, dark, apple, rum, spices, nightfall, the one I would be most drawn to (in a parallel world, where reality is flowing in the “old normal” parameters)

Xi’an: the knot where the strings of the journey meet. The eastern end of the silk road, calm, balance, equilibrium, silence, rebirth.

I loved the journey the discovery kit took me on, and sampled them patiently, one day at a time, giving them time and space to unfold their stories.

The day I sampled  Ormonde Jayne Tanger I had an unexpected (and, lately, quite uncharacteristic) surge of positive energy. I felt a bit like a disheveled android being suddenly connected to a new power outlet, one I was not quite in synch with yet. I smiled, imagining a fragrant version of Lisa Gerrard’s voice singing in glossolalia* an ode to joy, in a language made out of all the bright colors of the world. (* glossolalia – also known as speaking in tongues, is a practice in which people utter words or speech-like sounds that some believe to be languages unknown to the speaker.)  I put aside the quarantine mom frown (that has dug some new lines between my brows), I blasted “Carnival of Light” from Dead can Dance** and went on about my day, running on a new, sparkly fuel.(** Lisa Gerrard is Dead can Dance lead singer, famous for her singing in glossolalia).

Same as with a song with invented language, where you are not constrained by the meaning of the words to freely build your experience with it, Ormonde Jayne Tanger has this uncanny ability to be a “blank slate” of positive energy you can draw from, the pure kind, without the artificially induced, #goodvibesonly breed of “toxic positivity” we seem to be drawing in, these days”(*** toxic positivity is the excessive and ineffective overgeneralization of a happy, optimistic state across all situations. The process of toxic positivity results in the denial, minimization, and invalidation of the authentic human emotional experience.)

The idea seems simple in construction (happy sunny bright neroli – bergamot- ylang – amber combo) but the effect is complex and deep. Let’s unfold the scented map:

East: the morning mewing of seagulls hovering above the harbor, crisp cool air, unloading pyramids of exotic citrus from the ships, alternating tartness: green, orange, green.

North: the sun falls directly over the carpets laid on the ground, as hands scatter heaps upon heaps of flowers out to dry, the intoxicating scent of rose petals and ylang ylang rising in the hot summer air: yellow, red, yellow.

South: the shadows grow longer, mossy trees, hidden from the sun, sweet, honeyed green sap pulsates, keeping bitter orange alive: green, olive, green.

West: sunset light flickers and dances on the mosaics of the minaret: amber, vanilla, amber, balsam.

Notes: Head; Ylang Ylang, Italian Mandarin, Italian Bergamot Heart; Rose Petals, Wood of Cashmere, Neroli, Soul; Moss, Dry Amber, Madagascar Vanilla, Balsamic Accord

  • What a great giveaway! Thank you! I am intrigued by the “blank slate” of positive energy. I would be thrilled with a bottle of Tanger. I live in the EU and am a long term fan of Ormonde Woman.

  • Naomi Sawyer says:

I love Nicoleta’s reference to how this fragrance can restore a “blank slate” to our energy and mood. We know that certain essences can, in fact, wipe clean the receptors on the neurons in our brain and help with resetting our thinking. Tanger must have some of these components, and what a treat it is! I had the privilege of sampling La Route de Soie, and agree thoroughly. Thank you for this generous draw. Ormonde Jayne’s fragrances are truly beautiful. The bottle of Tanger would be my choice. I live in the Boston area.

  • From the review, Tanger seems like an energizing fragrance that lifts one’s spirits when feeling down. It looks like this is particularly suited to a warm day and has prominent citrusy vibes. I would like the bottle. My favorite from Ormonde Jayne is Nawab of Oudh. USA

  • Shamrock1313 says:

Such a great review about a fantastic house. OJ is one of my favorites.
    Would love to win Tanger.
    Pennsylvania USA

  • I do not have any Ormonde Jayne fragrances myself, but my partner has Ta’if and Tolu. The quality is amazing and i’m sure she’d love to try the new La Route de la Soie range. I would love to win the 50ml bottle because I know she’ll be ordering the discovery set soon herself.

The “mom frown” reference made me laugh. Even though I’ve never heard it before I instantly imagined my mum looking at me when I was a bit naughty (again).

    I live in the UK,

  • Scott Masitto says:

I was struck by the positive vibes she felt coming her way!!!! I have fragrances that do that to me like Elysium by Roja Dove anyway I would love to get my nose on this brand and the best way to do that is through a discovery set I would love to try that!!!!!

  • Brad Woolslayer says:

I love the concept of a universal appeal with a niche concept. I would love to check out the La Route de la Soie Discovery set. I live in Maryland USA.

  • Thank you for the generous giveaway! Based on the description, it sounds like an ideal summer fragrance. I’ve tried a few from Ormonde Jayne (Man, Ta’if, Montabaco, Tolu, Nawab, Amber Royal) and I loved each one of them which is a rare feat for a fragrance house in my experience. Based on the notes and the review, I’m sure Tanger will be lovely to. I’d like to enter the draw for a full bottle. I live in the EU.

  • I always like when a house creates exotic lines that explore spices. I’ve been wanting to try this house for some time. The composition of Tanger seems bright and lovely. I like how the author described it as a sort of unbridled positivity. I would love to have a bottle of Tanger, a citrus amber sounds amazing. Thanks for the chance at the giveaway, from Idaho USA.

  • I’m intrigued by the pure, blank slate that Nicoleta mentions. Despite its percieved complexity, is it because the effect is to evoke a generally ethereal character? Tons of sparkling and creamy notes for sure, but the image of honeyed green sap and tartness draws me in most. Certainly not a common citrus it seems. Would love to win a bottle! MI, USA

  • The floral and citrus notes sound like this would make for a lovely warm weather option. I’m a big fan of the house – Man, Tolu and Osmanthus are among my favorites, and I’m wearing Ta’if as I write this. Looking forward to sampling this new collection, and maybe winning a bottle of Tanger! Greetings from the US.

  • What really sparked my interest about Nicoleta’s review of Tanger was the description of the perfume as an android that suddenly woke up. It was such a vivid image in my mind that I could see so well. If I were to win, I would like the bottle of Tanger. I live in Florida, US. This is my first time hearing about Ormond Jayne but the review has definitely put this fragrance house on my radar.

  • I’ve heard of this fragrance house, but I’ve never tried any of the perfumes that they’ve released (I’d like to try all of them). This perfume seems like it would be high-quality and interesting to become familiar with. I’m interested in seeing the positive energy that is said to come from this perfume. I’m interested to try the whole set, but if I win the draw then I’d like the 50 ml. bottle of perfume. I hope that I win; I live in MD., U.S.A.

  • As a student studying the Islamic world, this line really captured my attention. The works and stories that I have studied can only enhance the way I will experience the fragrances – understanding the background of the materials used, and the stories around the compositions will make for an incredibly rich experience. We all need some “positive energy,” and I love that this fragrance can offer that to those who own it! I already have Tolu by Ormonde Jayne in my collection, but after reading this, I am going to be waiting with bated breath for my discovery set.

  • What I really interested me about Ormonde Jayne Tanger was the concept behind the line, having all of the fragrances of the line based off of the scents of the Silk Road. I was also really interested in the idea of a fragrance map and basing off all of the different types of smells from this fragrance on the different cardinal directions. I really like that part of the review and I am would love to try Tanger. I have not tried any Ormonde Jayne perfumes. If I were to win, I would like to receive the bottle of Tanger. I live in the US.

  • A bright, sunny neroli which gives one a surge of positive energy sounds like a happy fragrance to wear in uncertain times. I love the idea of perfume inspired by the flora of the ancient Silk Road. Favorite OJ is OJ Woman. Commenting from MD, USA.

  • I’ve known the house and have tried a few but not the history and how they have been a pioneer. Travel-scened fragrance concept always gets me, and of course I hope to see I can have the same positive energy. (US)

  • I just got stuck on the note of rhubarb in the paragraph under Linda’s photo. I hope my local shop gets this new line. Linda’s fragrances are very lovely. I own Ta’if and Vanilla Iris, there are many more I would love to own, but I do have to put a roof over my head. I would love the Tanger full bottle, the notes sound amazing, especially the neroli with moss and vanilla. Thanks for the chance and thanks Linda for creating more fragrances. USA.

  • Happy Anniversary to Ormonde Jayne. I am fortunate to have a bottle of Tolu in my possession. I’ve also been taken with the sagas from the Silk Road and the many glorious stops along the way. I’m definitely drawn to the bottle of Tanger as I love the combination of notes with the amber. Many thanks to Nicoleta for a lovely review and many thanks to Ormonde Jayne for making this draw possible.. I’m in the USA

  • Laying out Tanger in terms of East -North-South-West got me interested and enthused. Nicoleta’s description makes the progression from citrus to floral to green to amber sound like something that would be special to experience. I’ve not tried any Ormonde Jayne fragrances, but would very much like to win the full bottle of Tanger. It sounds super. I am in the US, in North Carolina.

  • Daniel Fisher says:

“Liquid Wanderlust” might be my favorite phrase of 2020. A rising an led setting sun, amber and citrus woven in the most profound way. Sounds amazing. Congratulations to Ormonde Jayne for their 20 years of perfumery. Here’s to 20 more!
    From Texas with love

  • I feel this quote could speak to many neroli perfumes and compels me to select the bright bottle of Tanger, “Ormonde Jayne Tanger has this uncanny ability to be a “blank slate” of positive energy you can draw from, the pure kind…”

Sometimes a pure neroli joy is just the break we need from deep introspections, and I sure do long for a beam of sunshine through this winter.

I’m in the USA and I think Ormonde Woman is a masterpiece.

  • Unisex fragrances are definitely my favorite, and the descriptions of the new Ormonde Jayne collection has me drooling. I do enjoy a discovery set, and would love to try La Route de Soie. Thanks for the opportunity! Mich USA

  • It’s so cool that this perfume connected the author to a specific piece of music through its energizing quality. As a lover of citrus and neroli, I would love to be entered to win a bottle of Tanger. Thank you from Oregon, USA.

  • Sorohan Adriana says:

    Ormonde Jayne Tanger
seems like an energizing fragrance that lifts one’s spirits when feeling down.
I would like the bottle. Iam from Eu Bucharest Romania

  • What I enjoyed most about the review was just how exciting you can feel the fragrance made nicoleta feel , and that kind of happiness that sparks from a fragrance is so addictive. I’m clambering for it.

I love the house and specifically the ta’if line

    I’m from Ireland

  • The mystery of the silk road is always sparking my interest, especially when it comes to scents! It sounds like a very interesting collection, therefore Ițd be happy to win the discovery set. Thank you! I live in Romania, EU.

  • Ormonde Jayne Tanger was launched in 2020, as a part of the “La Route de la Soie” collection and the nose is Linda Pilkington.

Notes: Head; Ylang Ylang, Italian Mandarin, Italian Bergamot Heart; Rose Petals, Wood of Cashmere, Neroli, Soul; Moss, Dry Amber, Madagascar Vanilla, Balsamic Accord. I am intrigued by the rose petals note and Woods of Cashmere. To celebrate twenty years is no mean feat. My favourite from this house is Ormonde Man a beautiful fragrance which holds special memories because it was my first niche fragrance that I purchased. If I am successful I would love to win the bottle of Ormonde Jayne Tanger. Thanks a million from the United Kingdom

A house that I have got experience with l am afraid. A beautiful piece by Nicoleta has piqued my interest in this house. Thanks a lot from the UK Just in case I win I would love the bottle of Tanger. Cheers a lot

  • Thank you Nicoleta. It’s nice that you got a burst of positive energy on sampling Tanger – I also get that from Ormonde Man which I love. In these times, positive energy is at a premium :). Thank you for the kind giveaway and I’d like to explore the house more thus would pick the La Route de Soie discovery lab. I’m in USA

  • IcarusMidAir says:

I very much enjoyed the pilgrimage on the Silk Route with Nicoleta’s captivating storytelling and imagery! It was like reading an adventure book.

I am drawn to the Discovery set and I am based in Romania!

  • I have never tried any of Ormonde Jayne fragrances, but I heard a lot of good things about this brand. I would chose the 50 ml bottle of Tanger. Thank you for the draw. I live in Europe.

  • I certainly need in my life a fragrance that can radiate such positive energy, not to mention sing in glossolalia (what a beautiful Greek word) for Nicoleta!
I especially loved the idea of the “Scented Map” to describe the complexity of the fragrance.
I’d be delighted to have a bottle of TANGER, thank you.
    Best from France (EU).

  • hannahrgeyer says:

I think this is the first perfume review I’ve read that name drops Dead Can Dance – which obviously caught my eye immediately. What a great way to describe a perfume’s impact.

Because of that, I’m *very* interested in the bottle of Tanger.

    [I’m based in the USA]

  • Tanger I’m sure is…. everything you don’t expect it tobe .Enigmatic , happy fragrances I appreciate . Obviously it clicked well with Nicoleta, feels like it will click with me too.
“Meet the Perfumer” online event shows how Linda Pilkington cherish her loyal customers, very few brand owners would do such a thing.
My personal favorite Ormonde Jayne fragrances are Taif , Ambre Royal and Tolu. It’s hard to pick one . Don’t have a full bottle yet, just samoles of Ambre Royal and Tolu , and decant of Taif.
Tanger bottle would make me happy
    Thank you.
    USA, rarely Paris France

  • “Blank slate” made me curious. I would like La Route de la Soie Discovery set. I live in Romania. Thank you for the chance!

  • I need a burst of positive energy in my life. That is what most interests me about Tanger. All of the scents in the discovery set sound great, but I would rather have the Tanger. Nicoleta really grabbed my attention with this one. I don’t think that I have tried any Ormande Jayne fragrances. I am in Kansas, USA.

  • I enjoyed learning about glossolalia (and DCD fan here!), and did not realize there was a term for this type of language, speaking. Positive energy is what we need right now. Would love to experience the radiance of Tanger. USA

  • “a blank state of positive energy you can draw from” — i not only want it, i *need* it (let me not bore you with the numerous difficulties i am dealing with — my own and others’ — *aside* from living in the pandemic. a state of of positive energy would be a god(dess)-sent.)

    so yes, tanger for me.

🙂 harper (in the u.s.) — and while have known and liked many ormonde jane fragrance for many years, i love and wear ormonde man the most.

  • I like when she felt a surge of positive energy upon sampling. I need it especially with what we are dealing right now. Would love to win the 50ml bottle of Tanger. Never tried any from this house yet. IL, USA

  • Congrats to Linda and her brand! Love her work, wear Zizan and need to get Taif, Black Gold, Ambre Royal and a few others. Still haven’t had a chance to smell the new collection but the positive vibes that come from the review are something that we all need these days. Would love and proudly own a bottle of Tanger perfume! Greetings from Slovakia where OJ recently started to sell their works, so happy for that!

  • Thank you for intodrucing this new line from ormonde jayne.

  • After such an amazing review, I want a full bottle! Silk road is in the hot spot again, as it deserves. I recommend you all to read Alone on Silk Road, written by a romanian journalist. Never had a chance to test this perfume house. I live in Romania, EU.

  • maria mihalache says:

I haven’t tried any perfume from Ormond Jane yet,
I am very curious to discover how Tanger can change energy and state, how it can turn all evil into good, storm into peace and so on. I would like the bottle.Congratulations to Nicoleta for the review. Romania ,EU

  • I gifted Zizan to a friend for his birthday… I was tempted to keep it and get him something else. “Ormonde Jayne Tanger has this uncanny ability to be a “blank slate” of positive energy you can draw from”… I love the notes and would love to own this!

  • this release has interesting note breakdown and since the house is amazing i have high hopes. Im from Greece

• I have not tried anything from this house altough I have read many articles and opinions about it as Ormond Jayne is a constant presence on CaFleureBon. It would be a great to start with Tanger.
Please count me in for this one.
    EU. Thanks!

  • I like the idea behind this series and the bottles all seem lovely with that orange gradient-like. They scream joy and happiness. I think they would look great in any collection, a real eye catcher!
I would love to have such a bottle on my display shelf, so I am in for the bottle. Thank you!
    Europe

  • Difficult to ignore this generous opportunity . I love several of the original OJ perfumes but especially Ormonde Woman and Vanille d’Iris. I’d love to win a bottle of Tanger having tried a trial ser already. I like the way Linda Pilkington has imagined this new collection around the silk route and I particularly enjoyed Tanger and Levant because the mandarin notes are so joyful and uplifting.

  • The energy boost that this fragrance seems to give the wearer is what piqued my interest about it. I haven’t tried any Ormonde Jayne fragrances so far and should I win, I’d like the bottle. I live in the EU.

  • Like Nicoleta I feel that surges of positive energy are scarce these days, so a perfume that has that effect definitely peaks my interest. Tanger sounds complex and beautiful like other Ormonde Jayne fragrances. I have tried Taif before which has a similar “simple” notes list but reaches great depth. Marit UK

  • I have only tried Ormonde Jayne’s Woman, which I love. I liked this part of Nicoleta’s review : “Ormonde Jayne Tanger has this uncanny ability to be a “blank slate” of positive energy you can draw from, the pure kind, without the artificially induced, #goodvibesonly breed of “toxic positivity” we seem to be drawing in, these days”. Upbeat positive energy without the toxic positivity is something I could use in my life, so if I won, I would choose Tanger. I am in the US.

  • This perfume, to me, has something strange, like a solar quality about it. I do not know if it is because of the colour of the bottle, the idea behind it or the summery zesty citruses like bergamot and mandarin and/or the fragrant neroli or if it is all these three attributes combined all together.
I think it would be like a breath of fresh hot air in the middle of a snowy winter.
    Thank you for the draw!

  • Iuno Feronia says:

Thanks for the draw and the review. 20 years are a Long time, I love jardin d‘ange. From this Collection xandria and indus appeal Me mostly. I live in the EU.

  • Nicoleta mentions that the day she tried Ormand Jayne Tanger she experienced a burst of positive energy and in these times it’s most relevant. I would definitely like a scent that would take me there so would absolutely want a bottle of Tanger! Based in the US

  • Hello! I life in Florida in the USA. I have not had the opportunity to Try Ormond Jayne fragrances as of yet but they are definitely on my radar! If I win, I would like the 50ml bottle of Tánger please. What sparks my interest about the review was the “scented map” that was used to describe the different layers of the fragrance as they unfold, with the N, S, E, W. I thought that was really neat. Definitely helps showcase how the layers of the fragrance unfold… exposing new and exciting g depth! And the list of notes for this one sounds like it’d be an absolute stunner, one that I would love to have in my collection! Thanks again!

  • Tanger seems like a very complex and intriguing fragrance, as well as the other creations from “La Route de la Soie” discovery set. I have tried several Ormonde Jayne creations and I enjoyed Ambre Royale and Ormonde Jayne Woman the most. In the USA.

  • Have not tried any Ormonde Jayne fragrances but I would love to! I really like how Tanger is described as a positive energy source you can draw from. Would love to win the bottle!

    Florida, USA

  • Thank you for this excellent review and giveaway. I love the concept of using fragrance to give positive energy. I would enjoy either the bottle of Tanger or the discovery set. My favorite from Ormond Jane is Taif.

  • Positive energy? Yes please! From this collection I’m most interested in Tanger, so I’d be happy to win this full bottle to Germany.
I’m familiar with most of OJs perfumes. Montabaco is easily my favorite, including the candle. Nawab of Oudh is stunning (not the intensivo), and I’m also happy owner of Cuir Imperial, a smiling leather scent.

  • Thank you for introducing to “La Route de la Soie” serie, all of them sounds fantastic. In this review what especially draw my attention was unfolding of the scented map, wow, that is a new way to describe scents! And we all agree that there is no need for toxic positivity in our life (amen). From Ormonde Jayne I know only her Ormonde Woman fragrance and that is full of warm sunshine and friendly forest fairy energy, would love to discover more scents from her.
I am in the EU and would love to win a bottle of Tanger.
Thank you for your generousity and another amazing giveaway!

  • Reading the description of Tanger, I had such a positive vibe and felt a sort of happiness, because it really made me joyful and made me smile, imagining the ylang-ylang, bergamot and mandarin on my skin. I was actually transported to a warm exotic beach, at sunset, with flowers in my hair. I would love to try the Discovery Set. I currently live in Bucharest, Romania.

  • This is such a wonderful review. I loved Nicoleta’s structuring the scent based on the cardinal directions, each of them describing a different dimension of the perfume, as well as Tanger giving an overall feeling of happiness and real, not “motivational” optimism. I have never tried Ormond Jayne fragrances before and Tanger would be a great start. My pick would be the bottle. I live in the EU.

  • I have a little discovery set of this range and absolutely love Tanger along with Levant. I would love to win a bottle of Tanger as I would agree with the review it is joyful and I found it quite sexy too!
    I am in uk

  • Such a great and positive review!
My mood changed and I already feel a little bit better!
I haven’t tried any Ormonde Jayne fragrances before.
I would love a bottle of of Ormonde Jayne.
    Hugs from Romania

  • Happy Anniversary and to many more creations!
I am familiar only with Isfarkand from this house – a delightful combination of citruses, pepper, vetiver and cedarwood!
If Tanger is on the same page as Isfarkand, then I am sure I will love it.
    Thanks!
    Europe

  • Based on the review, it sounds like a cozy and comfortable summer fragrance. Previously, I have only tried Montabaco from them. I’d like to choose the full bottle should I win the draw. Living in EU, Finland.

  • Bryant Worley says:

Nicoleta was quite eloquent in this review, and what appealed to me was the imagery she presented:

I have never tried an Ormonde Jayne fragrance (not for lack of desire), but after reading this article, I’m spurred on to FINALLY stop thinking about, but be about getting the sample of Montabaco that I’ve been desiring.

If I win, I want the bottle of Tanger. I live in Waldorf, MD, USA.

    P.S./
/ Thanks for speaking about the the “Toxic Positivity” going around today, which, as you so ably pointed out (and with which I wholeheartedly agree), results in the denial, minimization, and invalidation of the authentic human emotional experience. We don’t need the inexhaustibly constant ‘rah-rah-rah; look at the silver lining; the grass is always greener’ mentality

  • I have to say I really like Nicoleta take on Tanger
Her take on it , reminded me of making, and eating Mandarin Orange Cake with Vanilla Cream Frosting i do twice a week at my bakery. Of course Citrus Glaze on top of it is a must.
To me Ormonde Jayne almost equals Ta’if Elixir. I was blown away by the smell of a client in my bakery, and asked him about the fragrance his wearing. He only said “It’s a dark bottle Ormonde Jayne I bought from Harrods in London, but I don’t remember the name”. Smells very, and I mean very similar to a traditional Persian cake with rose, cardamom, saffron, almonds , orange water and dates. It’s called Persian Pavlova cake, but more people know it as Persian Love Cake.
Once I finish the bottle, I’ll immediately buy another one.
Appreciate the review, and the giveaway campaign.

  • Classic high quality fragrances I adore , dry and bright , fresh citrus , and balsams , I need to try Tanger
Don’t have yet a full bottle of Ormonde Jayne, but from the three samples that I bought
    Tolu > Vanille d’Iris > Frangipani.
    Nice opportunity, thank you.
USA most of the year, and Germany from time to time

  • Nicoleta ‘ review and the very generous draw in this case just makes my day as I have heard of OJ perfumes and they are on my wishlist from some time now. I love how this is a creation that has the ability to boost my energy also because I am a believer that our mood and vibe can be changed with scents .If I would be one of the lucky winners I would choose the discovery kit.I live in Italy.thank you

  • Amazing how the fragrance connected Nicoleta to a specific piece of music, I suppose a very uplifting music.I would like a bottle of the OJ Tanger.I have sampled a few of this house’s fragrance my favorite so far was Qi and Tsarina.Thank you for the draw.I live in the UE, Roamnia

  • Reading reviews on Cafleurebon is addictive , and also dangerous if you’re not careful.
Blind bought Ormonde Jayne Royal Elixir, because Dana Sandu Cafleurebon contribution. Honestly I absolutely love it, but the smell is nothing like I imagined it to be . I remember there was Mongolian people laying on ice , and some connection with traditional songs. The smell to me has nothing to do with all above, it’s not cold, but so alive , touching with strong Caribbean or Brazilian vibr , with happy people dancing salsa.
I’m not blaming Dana Sandu of course, but myself ONLY.Next time when I’m excited from review on Cafleurebon, I’ll make sure to sample the fragrance first .
Like I said I enjoy Royal Elixir a lot, but blind buying fragrances is like a Russian roulette.
Tanger I’ll try , I wonder what I’ll get from it.
What I’m sure is, it will remind me of sunny , happy , and a bit warm winter days .
    More sunshine please.
I’m so excited for this giveaway. USA
    Regards

  • Happy 20th anniversary to Ormonde Jayne. The Silk Road is always fascinating, from a historical and cultural perspective, but more so for the wonderful imagery it conjures, of traders, travelers, different languages, different foods, flavors, aromas, and so on. So capturing The Silk Road in fragrance form makes La Route De Soie interesting. Haven’t tried anything by Ormonde Jayne, yet. From the review by Nicoleta, it seems Tanger is uplifting, and I like the notes in Tanger, so if I were to win this draw, I’d choose 50ml bottle of Tanger. Thanks for the review and the draw. Writing from the USA.

  • I am a big fan of Ormonde Jayne’s Ambre Royal and Ormonde Man. This house creates the most opulent and well-blended fragrances. I enjoyed reading about how Tanger unfolds, how it creates a blank slate of positive energy.
I would choose the discovery set.
    I live in the USA.

  • Thank you for the generous giveaway! I loved how Nicoleta talked about Tanger is a blank slate of positive energy! We all need this. Happy Anniversary to Linda and Ormonde Jayne! I would love the discovery lab. USA.

  • Tanger sounds a lovely and refreshing scent , with well blended bright neroli and amber . I’m eager to try it.
As for Ormonde Jayne fragrances , I told this story a couple of times, but I’ll do it again, I had Tolu back in late 2014 , but my younger cousin broke the bottle – dropped it from the second floor of the house.
From the 6-7 Ormonde Jayne I have smelled , Tolu is the best one.
Cafleurebon, Nicoleta and Ormonde Jayne, thank you. I’d like to win the bottle.
Back and forth between USA and Scotland, 1 week in US -> 1 week in Scotland, and so on. Basically both USA and EU/UK at the same time

  • I have the La Route de la Soie discovery set, and I absolutely agree with how effortlessly Tanger conveys positive vibes olfactorily. It’s like a ray of sunlight that strikes your cup as you inhale the invigorating vapours of your morning tea.

I live in the UK, and would love to have Tanger! My favourite Ormonde Jayne fragrances are Osmanthus and Tanger 🙂

  • Thanks for a great review, Nicoleta! The new collection seems all fantastic scents. In this time of quarantine, we all need some sort of positive energy and the way you described Tanger is so inspirational. I love this part of your description – ‘The idea seems simple in construction (happy sunny bright neroli – bergamot- ylang – amber combo) but the effect is complex and deep.’ I’d love to win a bottle of Tanger. Thanks for this draw. – CA, USA

Nicoleta, so many things facinate me about Ormonde Jayne Tanger. It sounds like a very versatile and appealing unisex fragrance. It’s perfectly balanced with various fragrance notes and I love how Nicoleta describes the fragrance into North, South, East, and West and comes together to make the perfect composition. I love this La Route de Soie line, the idea and theme behind it, and the beautiful gradient orange color scheme used on the bottles. I also enjoyed learning about the history of the house as well as their perfumer and founder Linda Pilkington. Happy 20th Anniversary to Ormonde Jayne. I own Ormonde Jayne Man and I love it. If I win I would choose the 50ml bottle of Tanger. I am from the USA.

Thank you for the exciting writeup Nicoleta. I appreciated the idea behind the review, but I had a hard time getting the thought of this fragrance in my mind. Perhaps a sniff would help with that …. 😀

I would most certainly enjoy the discovery set.

I have not tried any fragrances from this house before.

Thank you and cheers from WI, USA

I always love when a fragrance series can take you on a journey. Sometimes, they are a misshapen mess of frags that don’t read as you’d expect. Sometimes, we get lucky and there’s a story to tell, a cohesiveness to explore and share. The idea of traveling the Silk Road by Scent is an amazing one, and I can’t wait to try the La Route de Soie discovery lab if I am chosen.

I haven’t tried any Ormonde Jayne frags, but I look forward to the opportunity.

  • While I don’t own any full bottles of Ormond Jayne, the few I’m tested were all absolutely gorgeous! Tanger sounds so incredible. I love that it’s described in north, south, east and west. I especially love the drydown as West: sunset light flickers and dances on the mosaics of the minaret: amber, vanilla, amber, balsam.

    I live in the USA.

  • Claudia Kroyer says:

The notes in this fragrance sound uplifting. I don’t understand the reference to a clean slate, but any fragrance that lift your mood is a winner in my book. I have also been a fan of the Ormonde Jayne fragrances for quite some time now. And Tanger really piqued my interest. I am in the US and would love to win Tanger. Thank you so much for this generosity. Especially during these dark times. We could all use something uplifting in our lives.

  • Toxic positivity is me in a nutshell. I love neroli citrus fragrances and can’t think of a better way to kick off my Ormonde Jayne experience. I have never smelled one but many fragrance reviewers rave. I would love a chance to win the bottle of Tanger. I live in the USA in California.

  • I really liked how this fragrance seemed to have a mood lifting effect, as Nicoleta said, “Ormonde Jayne Tanger has this uncanny ability to be a “blank slate” of positive energy you can draw from, the pure kind, without the artificially induced, #goodvibesonly breed of “toxic positivity” we seem to be drawing in, these days”…” Yes please. If I was to win id love to recieve a bottle of Tanger and experience this! I’ve not tried any Ormonde Jayne fragrances yet but there’s a number I’d like to one I really want to try is Vanille d’Iris. Thanks for the generous giveaway from CT USA.

  • Thanks for review!!
Tanger seems like an energizing fragrance!
“Toxic posivity” – sound amazing and very intrigued!! WOW!
In this sad Covid-19 lockdown we all need positive energy.
    I love Ormond Man.
I would like to win full bottle.

  • The whole La Route de Soie line I’ve not smelled yet, so I can’t share my thoughts.
Judging by Nicoleta review Tanger is moody fragrance, with juicy opening and honeyed green sap dry down.
Proud of owning Frangipani Made to Measure in 50% concentration in a beautiful custom bottle , and i feel like i own bespoke perfume.Pure parfum versions they called Made to Measure.
Thank you Linda Pilkington and CaFleurebon for this draw , and of course Nicoleta for the nice review. I prefer the bottle

  • So interesting review! I love Ormonde Jayne brand and my congratulations!!! I am glad that brand uses very rare ingredients. In new collection I see armenian plum which I love. All perfumes sound very interesting, but I am especially intrigued by Tanger – contrast of neroli, bergamot – amber, which give happiness and joy!!
    I like Nawab Al Oud.

I enjoyed Nicoleta’s care and completeness with the scent review – thorough and deep. I don’t own any Ormonde Jayne scents, so I would rather have the La Route de la Soie discovery set.

  • sounds appealing how simple notes can build complexity and depth.
i’d like the bottle, since i need no new temptations in little vials :))
tried Isfarkand, love love love it 🙂

  • First of all, thanks Nicoleta for this post.
And my congratulations to Ormonde Jane for 20th anniversary!!! I love Ormonde Jane perfumes and wish more success.
I liked descriptions of “La Route de la Soie” collection’s perfumes, especially of Xandria: mysterious, dark, apple, rum, spices…- sounds amazing.
But I need now positive energy and would like to win Tanger.
My favorite Ormonde Jane is Nawab al Oud.

Amidst the autumn dullness and all the lockdown limitations, this fragrance brightens things up immediately and immensely. I love ylang-ylang, amber, vanilla, cashmere, rhubarb and rum, and I consider Lisa Gerrard’s voice an absolute delight. Would be happy with a bootle of Tanger. My fave Ormonde Jayne fragrance is Ormonde Jayne. Big thanks from Ireland!

  • A fragrance that sparks or promote positive energy is what I need given this 2020 situation. I have never tried any Ormonde Jayne so would love to sample Tanger. From Texas, USA

  • Oh, I think anyone could use some extra energy, especially now. I would love a bottle of Tanger, as i love neroli. when i first started getting into perfume, i ordered a sample set from Ormonde Jayne and it was so elegant! I live in Seattle (US).

  • “surge of positive energy”
With all the nerves, stress and issues I had last 10 days , negative emotions trying to gain total control over me , to the point of no return. I really need such surge right now.
With Tanger spring, and genuine positive energy will come after all .
Tolu is my favorite Ormonde Jayne , such a luxurious scent. Everyone should if not own it , at least smell it.
Small off-topic about “Armenian Plum” . If someone wonders what kind of exotic fruit it is , actually that’s just regular apricot, my favorite fruit.
Please review more fragrances from La Route de Soie collection
    Thanks
Currently in Germany, not that I want to…I have to.

  • Happy 20th Anniversary to Linda!
Wonderful review from Nicoleta, love to find out that
Ormonde Jayne Tanger was launched in 2020, as a part of the “La Route de la Soie” collection and the nose is Linda Pilkington. For me positive energy coming from perfum always sounds great and I really like notes in Tanger :Ylang Ylang, Italian Mandarin, Italian Bergamot Heart; Rose Petals, Wood of Cashmere, Neroli, Soul; Moss, Dry Amber, Madagascar Vanilla, Balsamic Accord.
Thank you for your fantastic Giveaway! USA.

  • vickalicious says:

The whole La Route de Soie collection sounds amazing! I love how Nicoleta said that Tanger exudes positives feeling! The notes sounds beautiful as well. I would choose the full bottle. Thank you for the giveaway; located in the US.

  • I could certainly use a surge of unexpected positive energy. I love the notes list in this one and my favorite OJ would have to be Woman, but I love plenty of others too. I’d choose the Tanger if I won. The bottle looks like a burst of energy in itself! I’m in the US.

  • Happy 20th anniversary Linda. I have been lucky enough to sample some of your creations and I have been blown away by all I have smelled. Thank you for composing such a wonderful scents. Thank you Michelyn for another awesome review and giveaway. Commenting from Orlando, Fl. USA.

  • I enjoyed the hearing of a scent which evoked positive feelings and energy and with a notes list such as this, it would be a look no further I would love to win a bottle of Tanger even more than a discovery set. Two decades of fragrance is an amazing milestone for Ormonde Jayne and how lovely is it to share it with the world via this collection. I love ormonde woman, and osmanthus is another favorite. Commenting from NY.

  • Danu Seith-Fyr says:

Ah, this whole line speaks in many tongues and transports the wearer into many realms, both geographic and metamorphic. Just as Travel extends us and brings about profound change. Reading the book at present and fascinated. Linda is an exceptional woman and a spirit close to my heart. Tanger is vibrant and expressive, Nicoleta conveyed all its faceted personality with a vivacious touch and yes Dead can Dance, very appropriate. I live in France and would love a full bottle to explore.
