CREED Boutique Honors CaFleureBon’s Managing Editor Mark Behnke +CREED Aventus Draw

April 15, 2011April 16, 2011

Our friends at CREED would like to honor CaFleureBon Managing Editor Mark Behnke, a FiFi 2011 Finalist for Men's Coverage/ Editorial for his Review of CREED Aventus:The Life of Napolean From Top to Base Notes.

Here is the article in its entirety.

2009 was a good year for CREED as they released three excellent fragrances starting with Acqua Fiorentina which was followed by two more towards the end of the year; Windsor and Sublime Vanille. All three were different and felt like they belonged to the House of CREED’s proud history. In many ways  this felt like a return to form as the most recent years previous to 2009 had not been as creatively strong in my opinion. With that in mind I was looking forward to what CREED would be releasing in 2010.

Thanks to our friends at CREED I’ve got an advance peek at the upcoming release, Aventus. Aventus is going to debut in the US in September and part of the proceeds are going to be donated to American Rivers which has a mandate of protecting US waterways from harm.

Aventus is composed by Olivier CREED, the sixth-generation master perfumer, and he shows an adept hand with the composition which is inspired by Napoleon Bonaparte. Every note was inspired by some aspect of Napoleon’s life. From the top notes which, mostly, celebrate his early life. To the middle which encompasses his time as Emperor. Aventus ends with a base which encompasses the height of his power. This is a fragrance that is meant to celebrate all that makes a man successful and it is an unabashed masculine fragrance.

Aventus opens with a fairly normal pairing of black currant and bergamot. What takes the opening and adds a special bit of fragrant energy are the other two notes; Calville Blanc apple and pineapple… tart sweet of apple paired with the full sweetness of pineapple.

The top notes of Aventus charge off my skin like a cavalry charge. The heart is a floral woody mix of rose and jasmine juxtaposed with birch and patchouli. This feels like a wood paneled man cave with roses in vases. The base is a mix of three classic notes in perfumery; oakmoss, ambergris, and vanilla. In particular the interplay of oakmoss and ambergris is an example of strength  in beauty and the vanilla adds a bit of decadence that in less skilled hands could have become too much. Instead it feels like a lovely decadent fillip to bring Aventus to a close with a flourish.

Aventus has excellent longevity and above average sillage.

Aventus, according to the press release, means “success” in an unnamed ancient language (Latin?). Aventus keeps intact the recent string of successes from CREED and shows that the House of CREED is far from their Waterloo.

For more information on Aventus go to the Creed website.

Disclosure: This review was based on a preview sample provided by CREED

– Mark Behnke, Managing Editor

To be eligible to win CREED Aventus 2.5 oz spray, please leave a comment on this review, your favorite CREED fragrance and a personal moment of success! Draw closes  April 20, 2011 4pm EST.

Aventus is really popular among Creed fans and perfumeheads nowadays, this review make look really interesting, I have never tried try it, but the heart part of it is what it caught my eye: jasmine and rose with birch and patchouli, it sounds awesome.
My favorite Creed is one of the ones that almost no one pays attention to: Acier Aluminium.
A personal moment of success was when I finished college, it was the worst part of my life because of my dad's passing, but I found the strenght and courage to do it. It felt and it was a victory for me.

    Kelley Vandiver says:

This sounds wonderful (although that often gets me into trouble because I buy unsniffed).  My absolute favorite Creed fragrance is "Fleurs de Bulgarie".  Well sure, when you put it on it is all about roses (a friend said it's the gayest thing they have ever smelled) but I don't wear it for the opening notes.  For me, FdeB is all about the ambergris and musk.  It smells like fresh air when you are standing on a mountain….maybe with snow on the ground.  I find it energizing and exhilarating!
My personal moment of success is a funny story.  Being an artist, I don't have many opportunities to get recognized because I spend so much time alone working.  I was visiting my sister in Oklahoma and needed to go to the doctor because of a long bout of vertigo.  I walked in the door and the doctor said…"are you Kelley Vandiver, the artist?  The Kelley Vandiver?"  I was in shock.  He had some of my work at home that he had collected.  He was so thrilled to meet me.  It was a huge honor for me to meet someone that really "got" my work!  I will never forget it.

    Warum says:

Aventus IS my favorite Creed fragrance.  I discovered it at Holt Renfrou in Vancouver BC — or in another awesome store in the same area — in a Creed boutique.  The SA was spraying different fragrances for me, all femme, and I was underwhelmed.  I took a sample of Spring Flowers, and then she said to me, "And take this one, this is the newest one for men — your husband may want to try it."  Why yes he did, and so did I, later, on myself.  I love this fragrance.  I did not know about the connection with Napoleon until I read Mark's review, and I enjoyed learning about it. I think the cavalry comparison for the top notes is very fitting.  Napoleon used to say that one has to drink Champagne either in a victory or in defeat, and Aventus has a slightly sparkling quality to it.
My personal moment of success that I would like to share today was giving the Pledge at the Federal building in Portland as I was becoming a new citizen of the United States of America.  It was a lot of work on my part to get to this place and I am happy and proud (and lucky) that I did.

First congratulations to Mark and CaFleureBon!  My favorite Creed is what my son calls "The Party in The Bottle", Virgin Island Water.  It smells good on me but great on him and some of his friends have been known to beg for a spritz before a frat party!

Successful moment….gosh this goes way back but landing a plum human resources job at the ripe old age of about 23 for a large international company would have to be one of the best. That position allowed me to interface with people through the company on a variety of issues. Those contacts, along with the skills I gained, opened lots of doors for me for many years.

    Congratulations, Mark! 🙂
My favorite Creed is Himalaya, but I like Bois du Portugal a lot too. For springtime, Himalaya is perfect. It is the splash of nature smell that I need so often.
A personal moment of success? When I passed my driving test, after five attempts. But I still think that driving is not for me.

Congrats to Mark and team CaFleureBon, my favorite Creed is Royal English Leather, I love it! I never  tried Aventus but it sounds interesting, and that base combination of oakmoss, ambergris and vanilla sounds amazing.
A personal moment of success is coming to this country and going from being a cleaning lady to be what I love doing: Counseling and Therapy for Kids and Women.

Congratulations Mark for this honor. This made me really want to try Aventus as I haven't smelled any of the newer Creeds.  My favorite is an old one, Irisis. My biggest success is raising three kids….young adults now, who are a genuine pleasure to be around, and are good people.

    Congratulation Mark!
My favorite Creed between Aventus & Virgin Island Water.  Previously I had worn Acier Aluminium for the longest time.

My moment of success was when I was able to return to work (part-time at time) and follow my passion in the fragrance industry.

Great review. I have similar feelings about Aventus although my favourite Creed is Silver Mountain Water with its amazing blackcurrant – green tea combo in heartnotes and warm musky drydown. It is extremely clean and refreshing. Thing of beauty.
As for my moment of success, I believe the biggest is still before me 🙂 But I would mention my graduation form Technical Univeristy.

To be honest I have tested just a few of Creed scents and I can't deside which is my favourite but this one sounds intriguing.Especialy the relation between the power of Napoleon as imperator and the base of the fragrance, that realy grab me.
Generaly I'm  introvert person and working in direct sells was quite a chalange for me.Three years ago I was offering to a different of people to advertise their business on our site.I found that I can be hundreds of different people and every contract was a small victory for me.Finding the right approach to different type of people.

My favorite Creed is Royal Scottish Lavender, and I have to try Aventus after reading Mark's review and all the buzz that it generated the past few months, My story of success is coming from far away and learning the language, studying, becoming a US citizen and now working in what I like to do, I've come a long way, but is not over yet, there are going to be a lot more coming, I know for sure!!!!

    KarenZ says:

Oh wow!  I wasn't going to be greedy and enter this, but I just can't help it. Creed! They are the ultimate fragrances!  And this is one that I could enjoy putting on my husband. He naturally smells pretty good, but this couldn't hurt!! ha ha
My favorite CREED so far is Sublime Vanilla. That one smells heavenly on me… and it lasts all day. I think it's more me than any other perfume I've tried, and it smells like it's made for a king or queen… so I believe what they say about the royal inspirations for so many of their fragrances.
My story of success… right now, I am cooking dinner for my family. It's my birthday, and three of my 4 children will be here with their significant others… it sounds silly, but getting everyone together every Sunday is the best success I've had.  My husband and I own a small business, and we work 7 days a week right now. Reminding everyone that family is worth taking time for… and actually convincing them… that's always a big success in my book! And so far, we've never missed a Sunday. Even when someone was in the hospital, we'd just do it there. As the kids get older, it gets harder, so I consider every Sunday a success. (It's easier when it's my birthday!)

2009 was a very good year for Creed, I agree! I thought sublime vanilla was very good, but not nearly as good as Original Vetiver, which is my favorite Creed. I think I would like Aventus from the description you gave.
My personal moment of success was graduating, getting married, and moving to a new job all in less than 72 hours! Quite an accomplishment 😉

    it's a good review.
my favourite creed's fragrance is original vetiver. when i use it i feel clean, fresh.
my moment of success (recently) was some weeks ago. Peoples from my country (indonesia) make "indonesischer Abend" (indonesian night) in erfurt, germany. i know how hard it was to make that happen. the hall was full and some money for the victims of catastrophe in indonesia and japan collected. that event was a success.
