Sarah Horowitz Parfums Perfumer’s Palette (Sarah Horowitz-Thran) + Black Friday Draw

Sarah Horowitz Parfums Perfumer's palette is a perfect holiday gift

From Gail’s collection of paper ephemera.  Christmas in the  Woods… Artist  Henry Clayton Hopkins 1917. Sarah Horowitz Parfums Perfumer’s Palette makes a great holiday gift

This is the season that keeps the crafty and creative among us busy from dawn till dusk.  Cookies, home made soaps and candles, jewelry and crafts of all kinds find their way to hopefully appreciative friends and relatives.  A few years ago, after the holiday rush was over and the tree sap was rising, I even went so far as to tap my own big leaf maples, collect gallons of maple water, reduce that to maple syrup (a 40:1ratio – sap to syrup) and finally bottle my hard earned, sweet elixir into tiny maple leaf shaped bottles. The recipients loved these gifts but the work involved made me think twice before attempting another such labor-intensive project. For those of us who would like to create personalized gifts but don’t have the time or energy for long involved do-it-yourself marathons, Sarah Horowitz Parfums Perfumer’s Palette makes it possible and easy for us, inventive perfumistas that we are, to compose unique fragrances for ourselves and our loved ones.

The official return of Sarah Horowitz Parfums Perfumer’s Palette, originally launched at Nordstrom in 2002, offers a thoughtful and streamlined solution to hands on amateur fragrance creation. The Perfumer’s Palette collection of twelve specifically designed, eco and wallet friendly accords empower the wearer to experiment making uniquely personal scents. Each of the versatile top, middle and base notes is a balanced perfume in itself, masterfully created by Sarah Horowitz-Thran, to be layered together or worn alone, for the upcoming mid-winter festivities or any time of year.

There is no doubt that playing with scent and creating our own fragrances, either from essential oils and raw materials or from perfumers’ accords, has become extremely popular over the past few years, both as individual pursuits and as  group activities.  An industry insider recently told me that one of the most popular online searches having to do with fragrance include the words “how to make your own perfume”.  Of course we admire and respect the work of esteemed, skilled and highly educated professional perfumers, but our respect shouldn’t put a damper on our own curiosity. Rather, that respect should inspire us and give us an even better appreciation of the perfumer’s art!  Sarah Horowitz Parfums Perfumer’s Palette provides the tools – the ingredients really – to satisfy that curiosity and, in the process, perhaps even make our fragrant dreams come true.  All we need, in addition to the palette, are our own sensitive noses and olfactory imaginations; the possible layers and combinations are almost endless. Carefully crafted, the twelve “notes” of Sarah Horowitz Parfums Perfumer’s Palette, like the twelve notes of a chromatic musical scale, provide all the color and tone we need to compose beautiful olfactory melodies. Sarah Horowitz Parfums Perfumer’s Palette is a joy to work with, each accord a balanced individual perfume that can easily be worn and enjoyed on its own.

  • What a dreamy set! This sounds perfect for someone starting out on a perfume journey like me. Bergamot, orange blossom and soft musk appeal to me most, but if I won, I’d want to experience the whole palette for sure! Thanks for hosting this : ) I love the blog and just registered!

  • What appeals to me is the fact that the fragrances are eco and wallet friendly, and also work as standalone fragrances. My faves I. The collection are bergamot, fig, pink grapefruit, orange blossom, jasmine, rose, amber, clean musk and vanilla. The three 1 oz bottles that I would like to win are: Pink Grapefruit, Rose and Amber.

  • The possum’s happy face is hilarious! Thanks for the chuckle! I’m interested in the discovery set, if lucky. The soft musk note with animalics sounds right up my alley. USA

  • I think it is great to beable to create your own scent to give as a gift. I would like the discovery kit.

  • What fun! This sounds so perfect for any perfumista! If I were to choose the three notes to create ‘my’ perfume, I would go with Pink Grapefruit , Rose and Soft Musk…that might concoct my favorite perfume. I am in the

  • The creativity aspect stands front and center in my appeal to this post. If you love something, the only step left to take is to participate in its creative process. It’s great that this type of release affords fragrance lovers the chance to engage in creating something their own. I would be interested in (3) 30 ml bottles. (USA)
    Top: Bergamot
    Mid: Honeysuckle
    Base: Vanilla

  • All the furry creatures in the image says “soft musk”. It also reminds me of The Chronicles of Narnia, which makes me think of bergamont and rose flavorings in Turkish Delights. But if I were to win fig, rose, and amber or soft musk would play well together. USA

  • Look forward to make “my perfume dreams come true” and drawn to the Salt, Bergamot and Clean Musk. USA

  • I really enjoy layering scents, so a fragrance palette like this is a terrific idea. Sarah has a wonderful collection of single notes. I especially like bergamot, rose and vanilla combination.
    I live in the USA.

  • Single notes fragrances you can blend yourself is a fun idea.
Would pick 3x30ml bottles option, one each note .
    top BERGAMOT
    middle HONEYSUCKLE
    base VANILLA
    @cafleurebon, @azarsmith7 and @sarahhorowitzparfums I already follow.
    Thank you.

  • I like the idea of being a little bit creative when using fragrance, and this approach allows one to be so without taking undue risks. I would choose the three 1 oz. bottles and would choose fig, orange blossom, and amber (and I would have even if Michelyn hadn’t also done so). I live in the US, in North Carolina. These three would also be my favorites.

  • Sunny Chaudhary says:

Bergamot, honeysuckle and vanilla would be my picks. Haven’t smelled these, but described beautifully that one would get hooked up 🙂

  • Although I fully put my faith on the great noses, what enthusiast doesn’t want to try to create a “me” only fragrance. My favorite notes are bergamot, Jasmine and vanilla, so I’d love to try those three. Gratefully in NY.

  • My choices are fig , honeysuckle and vanilla. I’ll play with 3 like a kid in the kindergarten Lol.
Thank you for the opportunity. USA

  • Ooh, trying out my own notes, wonderful. I would love bergamot, orange blossom and amber. What a lovely idea, the sample set would be as a gift. In the us

  • i would choose grapefruit, jasmine and vanilla. love those notes and this is such a neat idea. love that they can be worn on their own. usa

  • I wonder what would happen if I mix fig , honeysuckle and vanilla? Fruity gourmand maybe? I’ll try. My 3 picks for sure.
    Thanks

  • I found it quite enjoyable to read through the responses to this post to see what notes everyone else has chosen! If I did my math correctly, it seems there are 64 possible combinations of perfumes that could be made by selecting one of each of the top, middle, and base bottles. How fun!

I often wonder if I was born into a place with a thriving fragrance community if I would have become a perfumer. The mixing of science, math, research and creative expression that is required of perfumers fascinates me. As I’m not an expert, maybe I should stick to works by the fragrance greats such as this kit!

No one has picked my choice yet… Fig, Honeysuckle, Soft Musk.

This would be a very fun thing to do with my niece! We “made perfume” (mixed fragrance oils and glitter in rollerballs) for her birthday a couple years ago and she loved it!

  • Figs+orange blossoms + vanilla = Orange blossoms cake with figs. My layering combination.
    Appreciate the giveaway campaign. USA

  • I would like to mix pink grapefruit with honeysuckle and vanilla. Sounds fun to me. Thanks. USA

  • It’s a really cool idea. It allows you to make something unique that us still quality because as a novice u do not need to blend or source materials or figure out how much of what just use top mid and base. I think I would choose 3 that seem like they could make a good combo but idk never tried the mid at all let alone the 3 together but the base is 1 of my fav notes if not my fav which is vanilla. I really like bergamot and fig and the mid it’s very hard to choose between. But it says they can be worn alone as well or perhaps only combine 2 idk. I suppose if I win I’d like to try Fig, Orange Blossom, and Vanilla. In the U.S. Thanks for the cool and generous draw.

  • Bergamot, Honeysuckle, and Amber would be interesting, but I would like the Discovery Set should I win. This is a fun idea. Thanks for the review and the generous draw. I’m in the USA.

  • This is an amazing concept! I love the idea. I would love to win all of them! So I have to choose the sample sizes.

  • What makes a woman truly UNIQUE is its perfume, a very beautiful possibility to create a fragrance only for me and different every day. The discovery set is a wonderful idea. Thank you for this opportunity.

  • I’m in love with bergamot, totally, deeply in love with this scent.
It seems like the whole nature is in this Palette.

  • I’ve always been interested in layering! This sounds like the perfect opportunity. I would choose the 3 1oz bottles : Pink Grapefruit, Orange Blossom and Clean Musk. Thanks for the awesome opportunity! USA

  • I usually don’t like to layer fragrances, because I’m no good doing it.
30ml of pink grapefruit, 30ml of honeysuckle and 30ml of vanilla is my combination, I’d like to explore.

  • VerbenaLuvvr says:

What a wonderful draw, I love Sarah Horowitz-Thran’s work! I have tried several of these layering palette notes, but not the fig, honeysuckle, or clean musk so those would be my choices. I love her soft musk and vanilla. Thank you to Sarah for this fun and generous giveaway! USA

  • I always wanted to try and create my own perfume, I just never new where to start from. I hope the Palette Discovery set can point me in some direction. Thank you for the opportunity. US

  • I have always wanted to try and create my own perfume, but have never found a brand that offers high-enough quality single note fragrances…so this sounds perfect! Will definitely be checking out Sarah Horowitz Parfums regardless of the draw. My favorite three notes from the list above (and the three bottles that I would love to win) are bergamot, rose and soft musk. Thanks for the generous draw. Boston USA.

  • wildevoodoo says:

The idea of playing around with different combinations of notes sounds like a lot of fun to me! I also sometimes feel like an existing perfume is missing a little ‘je ne sais quoi’ and would really enjoy trying to figure out what that was and tailor a perfume with an extra note so it’s perfect for me! The discovery set sounds like a great way to dive into the world of perfume blending without having to make huge investments in equipment, materials, etc as well. It’s not possible for me to choose from so many lovely notes, so I would pick the discovery set if I win. I am in the US 🙂

  • Michael Prince says:

Gail, great review of Sarah Horowitz Parfums Perfumer’s Palette. I really enjoy the concept of exploring top, middle, and base notes expanding your Palette and learning specific notes. I like the notes of amber, vanilla, as well as the top notes of grapefruit, bergamot, and salt. I really would love to win the 30ml top, middle, and base note fragrances. I am from the USA.

  • Michael Prince says:

I would pick bergamot, honeysuckle, and vanilla for the top, middle, and base notes and would like to win the 3 (30 ml) bottles. I am from the USA.

  • I love the note breakdown with bergamont, rose and amber. I would love to select the discovery kit to to get my nose on all of these delightful fragrances. Thanks for the draw. I am in CA, USA.

  • wallygator88 says:

Sigh, these perfumes sound absolutely delicious. I’d do a Fig, Rose and Soft Musk.

  • This sounds like fun. The discovery set would be great to play with. I love the way Gail and Michelyn put their scents together. Thank you for the chance. USA

  • I love vanilla, jasmine and honeysuckle notes. I’ll love the discovery kit if I win.
    I live in USA.

  • This is so awesome and sounds like so much fun! I am a huge fan of Sarah’s fragrances. Fig, Honeysuckle, and soft musk are most appealing to me and my fingers are crossed. Thanks so much for this giveaway and I live in the US! 🙂

  • Like many long-time perfumistas, I’ve dabbled in blending my own fragrances from raw materials, but like Gail’s experience with DIY maple syrup, the attempts left me feeling appreciative of how much hard work it takes to make something that feels worthy of being giftable! I appreciate that professionals like Sarah Horowitz are facilitating “DIY-lite” creations by providing single notes that are thoughtfully created enough to stand alone. If I’m lucky enough to win, I’d like a set of three notes to evoke eating ice cream on the beach: salt, orange blossom, and vanilla. I’m in the US, thanks for the draw!

  • As a musician, I appreciate the reference to the chromatic scale. It would be lovely to smell all the notes in the “scale”.
    I’m in Canada.

    Thanks for the draw!

  • Thanks to everyone for taking the time to comment! And thank you again Sarah for offering this generous draw. Remember to check back here at CaFleureBon for the winner.
