Memo Paris Winter Palace Review (2019) + Tea Ceremony Draw

Memo Paris Winter Palace Review

via Teagarden.com

In my years as the Editor-in Chief of CaFleureBon, I have noticed that perfumistas are often tea drinkers. Memo Paris Winter Palace is balsamic, resinous and ambery with red tea notes  and borders on a gourmand perfume.  Memo Paris is a favorite of ours since discovering the niche House which was founded by Creative Director Clara Molloy  and John Molloy in 2007; the name referencing memories of adventures, destinations and travel (their first fragrance was Lalibela  where we traveled to Ethiopia review by Gail Gross here).

Sebastian Jara has done a number of Memo Paris YouTube videos including one of our favorites Russian Leather.  Memo Paris Winter Palace Review takes us on another journey… to a China.  It emanates  a frosty quality juxtaposing warm with cool. –Michelyn Camen, Editor-in-Chief

When Editor Sebastian Jara smelled this complex and compliment-getting eau de parfum (composed by House Perfumer Alienor Massenet) he was reminded of the many Chinese tea houses in San Francisco’s Chinatown.

Disclosure: Sebastian requested this bottle of Winter Palace and opinions are his own.

Winter Palace from Memo Paris seems an exciting fragrance with Orange, bergamot, red tea accord (which is a first from me in any fragrance) lemon and Tonka beans. Wow

Hot and cold together making me quite inquisitive for sure.

As Sebastian said, one smell that you would again and again want to smell so am sure it will live up to his expectations.

I would surely surely love to try this fragrance on me.

I love intoxicated by killian but that’s green coffee so am sure I gonna love this too.

Never tried the tea fragrance before so it would be my first.

Unfortunately I haven’t tried memo Paris before but it’s not that late

  • Thank you, Sebastian for this beautiful review! Winter Palace seems to me very refreshing, but warm perfumes, because of combination of tea and balsamic notes. Contrast of fresh and wormth. I like tea, tea art and tea notes very much. My favourite Memo perfume is Irish Leather.

  • What I enjoyed most about Sebastian’s review was the comparison to walking into san Fransisco tea houses. I am an admirer of tea and have actually never tried a tea based fragrance before. I also have yet to try any Memo Paris fragrances.

  • So my mom makes this orange spiced tea for me every autumn and this fragrance sounds exactly how it tastes! I’ve been a big fan of tea fragrances since falling in love with Gucci Pour Homme II. I always appreciate Sebastian’s knowledge and have never tried Memo but I hear African Leather is amazing. USA

  • Gabriel Garcia Leyva says:

Wonderful review by Sebastian, I’m not very familiar with memo, but I do like tea scents, Sebastian describes the scent and I’m wondering if the imperial amber room smells like.

Love that it has notes of tea and almond cookie with a gourmand feel to it. Really looking forward to smelling this when I can.

  • I really enjoyed how Sebastian made the fragrance come to life connecting it with his experiences and memories in tea houses in Chinatown in San Francisco. The tea fragrance with cooling sensations along with the almond and warm amber resinous components is very interesting and I would love to try it. I have not yet had the chance to smell any offerings from Memo Paris so no favorite here maybe it will be Winter Palace. From CT USA. Thanks for the giveaway!

  • platinumdust says:

I love Sebastian’s honest reviews, I feel like he reviews and describes the scents really accurately. He is also one of the fragrance reviewers who opinions I trust. Thank you as always for creating this giveaway for us. My favorite scent from MEMO is a tie between French and Russian Leather.

  • Sebastian’s review of this fragrance definitely sparked my curiosity. I am not familiar with red tea accord so I would love to see how it works with the citrus notes and tonka bean. Russian Leather is my favorite fragrance by Memo. Thank you for the opportunity to win. I live in the USA.

  • I love almond gourmands. I’ve never tried a Memo Paris perfume and very few tea fragrances. Sounds nice.

  • I love the house. Has some great leather fragrances. Well, I’ll see if I’m lucky enough to get the giveaway.

  • Tyler J Sweeney says:

Sebastian has never recommended a dud in my experience and that partnered with this unique house and the almond cookie accord I am beyond intrigued!

  • What I enjoyed about Sebastian’s review, first of all, were the notes which, if you think about them together, will give you a. Idea of what it should smell like. Second of all, I liked his giving us his personal experience at the Chinese tea house in that, if you’ve ever had that type of experience (with the smells), then you’d have a good idea of what to expect from Winter Palace. And, therefore, I would like to accept a bottle. Thanks in advance;-D

  • I commented 6 minutes ago, and forgot to state that I live in Waldorf MD, USA, and my favorite Memo is African Leather.

  • John Marcello says:

big fan of tea scents and liked the association with chinatown by Sebastian North Providence RI

  • I like how calm and relaxed he always is in his videos. I can’t say I have a favorite because I have actually never smelled any from the line

  • Winter Palace is inspired by China so it makes sense to find inspiration in the tea accords. I have enjoyed several tea perfumes since Bvlgari introduced me to them during my college days. My fav. from Memo is African Leather. I am in US

  • Sebastian is always thorough in his reviews. I got a great impression of this fragrance and would like to try it.

  • I enjoyed Sebastian showing off that beautiful bottle! Really stands out and his description of almond cookies really gives me insight on the overall smell.

  • He has some of the best imagery when describing a smell, i don’t have a favorite Memo Paris fragrance yet but how this one sounds i love it already

  • bizzare13495 says:

I’ve never heard on this house before, but I really trust sebastian reviews so I’ll give it a try.

Thank to that i can buy a good fragrance.
    Take care.

  • Sebastian really details Memo Winter Palace with such an amazing detail of the notes and his experience in Chinatown, SF. Almond cookies and tea go lovely together. I have not tried any perfumes from Memo. Thank you for the draw. I live in USA.

  • Lisa F Collins says:

I always appreciate the way Sebastian breaks down the notes and show us how the notes work together. He went into how the balsams and resins deepen the tea and citrus notes.

  • Sebastian is the best with describing in details the scent profile. This offering sounds interesting and unique. I like African and French Leather from Memo Paris.

  • bigscoundrel says:

I was waiting for Sebastian’s review of Winter Palace. I can’t wait to try it. I love African Leather. I’m in the USA.

  • David Thomas says:

Another great review by Sebastian!! My favorite Memo is African Leather , followed closely by Morocain Leather.

  • Nathan Cherry says:

I enjoyed Sebastian’s review because it was, as always, short, sweet, and to the point, but very descriptive. He really gives you a great description of whatever scent he is reviewing, and this was no exception. I have had the opportunity of trying this fragrance once on a test strip at Neiman Marcus, and remember it smelling similar to Remember Me by Jovoy, which means that I loved it. Memo Paris is one of my favorite houses, with African Leather being my all time favorite, followed closely by French Leather and Luxor Oud. I’d love to win this bottle and add this beautiful scent to my collection.

    Alabama, USA

  • I never smelled red tea before but I like the idea of it with almond cookies
    My favorite is Italian Leather
    Good job

  • I really enjoy how Sebastian describes each fragrance he makes them sound so intriguing this review is no different.

  • Jonathan Lopez says:

I enjoy many offerings from this house. Sebastian did a great job describing the scent characteristics of this fragrance and I would definitely be interested to get my nose on it.

  • I really enjoy the fragrances that cause me to keep putting my nose to my skin. I am a big fan of gourmands, and this fragrance takes the cake by adding tea to this semi-dessert like concoction. It sounds like a fragrance gem. (Commenting from FL, USA)

  • The smell of this fragrance described by Sebastian is right up my alley! Love tea fragrances and I grew up in SF and visited Chinatown every weekend as well for school and food!

  • Sebastian is very accurate in the description of the notes as I smelled winter palace before and I totally get the citrus during most of the life of the fragrance. Beautiful tea scent

  • I have never smelled any from this house. But Sebastian’s review made me think of it as a scene in an old 70s martial arts movie. Where they portray the ancient times and always serve each other tea when talking out their squabbles and politics, or before a duel. Perhaps they smelled like this fragrance..

  • I love that Sebastian shares scents I don’t have access to in my local department shops. He really researches and frequents unique houses to share their glorious riches! Forever grateful for his knowledge.

  • Sebastian is always so elegant in his reviews yet he makes it so simple to visualize .
I haven’t had any tea fragrances nor memo Paris frags but I’d love to try this one .

  • Unique frosty tea, Sebastian really knows how to get you to want a fragrance dang it. I’ve heard of this fragrance before but now I really wanna try it.

  • Love tea fragrances and I grew up going to San Francisco’s Chinatown. Really excited about this fragrance! Great review!

  • I always enjoy Sebastian’s detailed reviews. This one sound amazing because I love goyrmands and tea notes. Would love to try this out. I have never tried this house.

Im in the US thanks for the chance!

  • I’ve never heard of tea fragrances before this one (I’m new to frags) I love how in depth he got with the description I of the fragrance. I got really interested when he called it frosted. I never would’ve thought tea would have a cooling scent to it, you normally associate tea with warmth.

  • I loved the subtle almond hints this fragrance has . I think it will be perfect transitional sent from summer to fall

  • I liked his mention of the cooling element of the fragrance, and my current favorite is Russian Leather.

  • I always enjoy Sebastion’s reviews, and this one is one of his best. Irish Leather is my current favorite from this house. Cheers from Oregon!

  • Michael Lynady says:

Winter Palace is one of my favorite releases of 2019 – Sebastian gave it a truthful & informative review

  • I love Sebastian’s reviews. He does a fabulous job at describing fragrances and has helped me discover fragrances. I have not yet tested a Memo Fragrance. But I completely trust Sebastian’s judgement, he usually picks the best. I thought the notes of Winter Palace sound beautiful. Red Tea, Bergamot, Ambers, and Vanilla. I’ve never tried a tea fragrance. I would love to try a bottle of Memo. I’m from the USA, Florida. Thank you so much, with all my love, Brooke.

  • Loved Sebastian’s review. He is always interesting and so descriptive. I always listen to what he has to say. I don’t have a favorite Memo fragrance, but being a tea lover, I’m sure I will love this one. Really enjoyed the review and thank you for a great draw. I’m in the USA.

  • Kathryn A. Pritchard says:

I think this scent sounds right up my alley. I too have found memories of hanging around China Town in SF, and enjoying the tea houses there.

  • I love how Sebastian gives a full list of the notes in this fragrance. I have never tried a Memo Paris fragrance, but I suspect Winter Palace would be one of my favorites– I love tea!

  • I always love Sebastian and his great reviews! He love this one. Tea and almonds, you can’t go wtong. Memo Paris has such beautiful scents. Just tried oriental leather, beautiful. Would love a chance to win. Thank you. USA

  • I loved the review Sebastian did on YouTube. The presentation of this bottle is great. I would love a chance to experience this fragrance for. myself.

  • imranabdullah says:

Thank you again Sebastian for this beautiful review! Winter Palace seems to me very refreshing, but warm fragrance, because of combination of tea and other balsamic notes.

  • Very good review. I always associate fragrances with places or times in my life and Sebastian’s description of the tea house made me feel like I was experiencing the fragrance through the moment. I love the bottle as well!

  • Rebecca Arnold says:

Strangely enough, we have a Chinese tea cafe in Old Colorado Springs City. It’s a wonderful place with all the scents of the various loose teas for sale mingling with customers’ perfumes and food. To have that captured in a bottle….. heavenly. It doesn’t surprise me that many perfume lovers also love tea.

  • I enjoyed how he explained all the notes and the ambery tea accord should be very interesting CA USA

  • This fragrance is loaded with so many ingredients I really love to smell. The way Sebastian describes his experience wearing this wonderful fragrance comparing it to sipping tea in a Chinese tea house in San Francisco makes me longing for Memo Paris Winter Palace. I have no experience so far with this perfume house. I’m in Florida.

  • Terry Hollifield says:

I’ve heard so much about this fragrance and it sounds truly gorgeous. As Sebastian described it there seems to be a clash of contrasts and even contradictions in here that somehow manage to work extremely well. I’m totally intrigued and would love to win this tester!

  • I’m loving that Winter Palace is described as an ambery tea with almond cookies. This sounds like an incredible autumn/winter fragrance!

  • Another great review from Sebastian. I love the way he describes the experience as he breaks down the scent. The scent profile sounds interesting and I would love to try this.
    New York

  • Great review. I really enjoy Memo Paris and I like tea accords. What I like most about the review is the amber touches to the fragrance and the fact that it gives off a cold vibe like Russian Leather (since that is my favorite of the Memo Leather series). I also like that the fragrance is long lasting since that is a big plus for me. Thanks for the giveaway. In the USA.

  • First couple months in the perfume world, just found this video and it looks amazing! I love how the bottle is showed of the whole time to exhibit the beautiful dragon art on the front. I also got very excited when I see that it smells like tea because I drink tea every single day! I feel like that note will remind me that I’m always in my chair enjoying my tea after an evening run. Overall, great video and I’d love to pick this one up!

  • Part of what I liked is that this is a well performing tea scent. Tea notes tend to be somewhat fleeting. I also thought the comparison to getting tea in Chinatown was pretty interesting. I do that often myself, and it’s very fragrant. There are some spices and herbs you can smell in the street, plus the brewed tea.
I havent tried any from the house.
Im in the US. thanks for the draw

  • Great review by Sebastian. Just love how he is able to describe the fragrances in such detail. Imagine if people selling fragrance would provide such detail! He should train fragrance sellers to be honest. As for MEMO Paris, I have smelled the African Leather and that was so exotic. Would be love to smell the Winter Palace. I don’t believe anyone sells it in my city (MSP)

  • jamiekelly0418 says:

I personally love how Sebastion describes things. He has this way with vivid details that let’s me know what a perfume smells like before I ever smell it in person that is more accurate than any other person. I have bought a few perfumes just solely based on his descriptions and he has been spot on every single time so I’m sure that this fragrance is something for me! Even if I don’t win the giveaway I might just purchase it myself!

  • Michael Werno says:

Great review as always, love the imagery he uses in the review. Had a chance to smell this at a Neiman Marcus and it’s by far my favorite from Memo Paris.

  • redwheelbarrow says:

This sounds fantastic. I love the description of the almond gourmand fragrance that reminds Sebastian of a Chinese tea house. His description of the frosted element is interesting and I’m curious to experience what he is describing. Thank you for the review and draw! I’m in the US.

  • I am so intrigued by this company as a whole. This one is high on my list of wanting to try. They are very artistic scents. I’m sure this is wonderful.

  • A tea scent that’s both green and ambery with hints of almond and smoke…? Oooh~ I’d love to try this fragrance. Sebastian gave it such a story!

My favorite Memo is Granada. It’s one that I didn’t know I would like as much. At first it just smelled like baby powder to me, but for some reason I cannot stop smelling my wrists. I gave it another go days after, and boy did I fall for it. Vanila and tonka made it sweet, creamy, comforting, and the white flowers brings elegance and grace to it. It’s the scent of a refined lady in her summer house, eating vanilla cake while watching her baby takes an afternoon nap. I could go on and on. 🙂

  • Love tea fragrances and Memo Paris fragrances and when Sebastian says that Winter Palace is ambery, balsamic, long lasting and gourmondy I got hooked 😀

  • As a drinker of Chinese teas (I especially love Yunnan teas) I am excited to try Winter Palace. When I lived in San Francisco years ago, I loved visiting Chinatown for dim sum. I am very intrigued by the mate note in this fragrance, how it works with the amber notes.
I haven’t tried anything from Memo Paris.
    I live in the USA.

  • Great review by Sebastian. This is a unique fragrance. A tea with citrus gourmand vibe. Haven’t got the chance to try MEMO Paris fragrances yet. Thanks for the giveaway US

  • Another excellent review by Sebastian. You can tell he is a veteran and when he has a positive opinion on a fragrance it adds to my interest. This sounds like an amazing new fragrance to try as the seasons start to change. I have yet to sample a MEMO scent. Thank you. From USA.

  • I always enjoy Sebastian’s reviews! I actually got a carded sample of Winter Palace and I really loved it. I agreed with Sebastian that it is borderline gourmand. I’m also a fan of African Leather and Irish Leather. Thanks for the review!

  • This was an exceptional review, how this perfume is a fragrance and a journey as well. I love tea and would love this. The bottle is so cool. I don’t live anywhere near a place to smell perfume so I don’t yet have a favorite Memo.

  • Sebastian mentioned that this is a fragrance you’ll want to smell again and again. I find that appealing and he did a great job describing the notes in depth. San Francisco and Chinatown is somehow associated with this fragrance. I have no favorite Memo Paris fragrance.

  • Michael Prince says:

Sebastian, great review of Memo Paris Winter Palace. This sounds like an amazing citrus tea fragrance that has that amazing depth with balsamic, resinous, and ambery touches. Good performance and depth in a tea fragrance is so rare to find. Interesting to find out what this frosty touch Sebastian is describing. I haven’t tried any Memo Paris fragrances so I don’t have a favorite. I am from the USA.

  • I love the way Sebastian reviewed this fragrance. I love that is very ambery with resinous and balsamic notes. I’ve never tried any fragrances from Memo Paris. This sounds so good for the upcoming autumn season.
    I live in the USA.

  • ambery tea? what could be better. the bottle is gorgeous and i imagine the fragrance is just as beautiful. perfect for cool weather coming. sebastian is always so entertaining. usa

  • Borderline gourmand tea fragrance, juicy orange, really balsamic…. WOW
I’m super curious about Winter Palace. Fantastic job by Sebastian.
I’m not familiar with Memo Paris, but I will be in a few days. After reading Ida Meister time travel review of Moon Fever , I bought 4 Memo Paris samples – Moon Fever, African Leather, Tiger’s Nest and Tamarindo . I’m so excited to get my samples.
Thank you Sebastian, and thanks to Europerfumes for the opportunity.

  • Just like mr. Jara I do love tea fragrances. Juicy citruses, matte tea , sweet gourmand cookies nuances. Growing up in UK I can relate with Winner Palace, with me still keeping the childhood tradition of regularly drinking tea and eating cookies …. almost every day. Sorry in UK no one calls them cookies, but biscuits instead.
We all love premium quality tea fragrances with good performance.
Exquisite review by mr. Jara. Thank you all.

  • Please enter me into the draw!

I always love his reviews, i find i agree a lot with his scent preferences and this seems like something i would love!

  • Love this fragrance! I have African Leather as well, which I bought after the best leather reviews from Sebastian. Would love to own this one. Thanks for the draw. US.

  • Sebastian always gives very honest, thorough reviews, which is why we love watching his channel. So many notes in this fragrance, I love he talks about the combo of orange and red tea at the top, I love orange tea, and cookies that remind him of the Chinese tea house and the cooling/frosting element to this fragrance, which I have never experienced before in a fragrance and I would love to have this unique combo and long lasting in Winter Palace! I am in the USA.

  • I’m new to Memo Paris and this scent. I’ve heard good things about this scent and Russian Leather. I would love to try them both one day. I watch Sebastian because he shows lots of fragrances that aren’t available in my area. Thank you for the opportunity to win a bottle of Winter Palace.

  • I had the pleasure of smelling a few Memo Paris fragrances when I was at Osswald boutique , looking for something else. Winter Palace I have not smelled there, but at the end end up buying the fragrance I originally intended to, and Memo Tiger’s Nest . I had to , because boy oh boy it’s impressive one. Later I have sampled African Leather, and I do admit it is beautiful, but unfortunately I get average performance from it. Tiger’s Nest works wonders through. Over 10 hours of longevity and 3-4 hours of strong projection.
Winter Palace I’m interested in because of the top quality citruses , tea and resinous smell. Sweeter nuances are nice addition , I’m Pastry Chef after all 🙂
Appreciate Sebastian review, and the giveaway campaign
    USA

  • Because of this marvelous review my expectations are pretty high . Tea , Asian cookies, balsams and top quality citruses mostly Oranges. I’m really drown to similar combinations.
Other than a sample of Tamarindo i’m not familiar with Memo Paris , but after such a vivid review i order more samples. I need to try Winter Palace, all the leather fragrances, and the one Ida Meister reviewed, related to Out of Africa book called Moon Fever .
Beautiful giveaway – thanks a lot.
    USA

  • I am a long time fan of Sebastian. I watch most of his review. He is the only reviewer that I trust. I never have any chances to try Memo. So this would be a great opportunity for me ! Thank you guy a lot

  • Interesting fragrance should be this Winner Palace … especially when it’s made by Alienor Massenet. She’s pretty famous nose with some masterpiece level creations. Own 7 fragrances she composed, 2 Memo Paris included. Natural smelling tea and citruses combination leaning into gourmand , with good performance … what not to like about Winter Palace? Checks the boxes quite perfectly .
From Memo Paris i do own Granada , and i’m at the very end of of my African Leather bottle. Both Alienor Massenet creations.
    I do follow all of you on IG @cafleurebon , @lookfeelsmellgreat , @Offical_ europerfumes , @memo.paris , and also please never forget the creator @alienormassenet .
    Top opportunity, thanks. USA

  • Thanks for this great review, Sebastian! Like you, one of my favorite niche houses is Memo Paris. I haven’t had the chance to sample this yet but your description makes me want to smell this! I love tea grahran

  • Thanks for this great review, Sebastian! Like you, one of my favorite niche houses is Memo Paris. I haven’t had the chance to sample this yet but your description makes me want to smell this! I love tea fragran

  • Thanks for this great review, Sebastian! Like you, one of my favorite niche houses is Memo Paris. I haven’t had the chance to sample this yet but your description makes me want to smell this! I love tea fragrances and a resinous, balsamic tea fragrance with a frosted feel sounds really good! My favorite Memo Paris scent is Eau de Memo. Thanks for this opportunity. – CA, USA

  • I adore most gourmand fragrances. Sebastian had me with almond cookie!! Don’t see almond listed in the notes. I also like orange so this must be a winner. My favorite of this line is Moon fever. Thanks for another great review. USA.

  • I really think Sebastian has background in sales. It’s not just the review, the way he’s… almost forcing you to get a sample, or go to your local niche boutique. Bought so much bottles because of his reviews.
Winner Palace sounds delicious. Felt like I’m drinking mate tea , eating homemade almond cookies and reading a book.
Sure I enjoy my tea fragrances, and I’m surprised Winter Palace is a long lasting one. Usually they don’t last.
    I so want to try it… now . I’ll get a sample .
My husband owns French Leather by Memo , and now i’m using it from time to time,so you could say i own it hah. I’ve never smelled anything else from Memo , but i own and love Jazz Club -one of Alienor Massenet creations. 100% unisex – not sure why it’s marketed for men only.
    Thanks
    Cheers from VA USA

  • Excellent review by Sebastian and I love that Winter Palace borders on a gourmand! I enjoy tea fragrances and since this one has red tea, I am even more intrigued. Sebastian mentioned that there is a “frost” in this fragrance and I wonder how it pairs with all of the resinous notes. Thanks for the giveaway and I live in the US!

  • I’ve been meaning to get into tea based fragrances. Sebastian’s take on winter palace seems in line with what I like.
