Let’s face it – life can be a bitch as well as a beach.  When tough times come along, which they inevitably will, there is nothing like a day at the beach – or if that isn’t’ possible, a breezy and sunny fragrance, to calm and refocus the mind and spirit. Sarah Horowitz Parfums Life’s a Beach feels like a soothing, protective suntan lotion for the soul that transports me to peaceful, happy times in my life, to carefree summers by the sea and the long ago laughter of friends and siblings.

Sarah Horowitz Parfums Life’s a Beach review

When I was a girl living in Florida, summers were all about the beach – the wild, long sandy strands from Cocoa Beach down to Sebastian Inlet. Years before the condos and resorts began to clutter the landscape; the central east coast of Florida was not much more than a few small towns, isolated neighborhoods and miles of sea grapes, sand and surf. We spent our early mornings fishing for the pompanos and jacks that swam though the crests of the waves, the water back lit to a clear aqua by the rising sun.   Later in the day that same sun would find us surfing near the “Shark Pit”, walking the beaches or just lazing around with friends.  Summer afternoons brought rain clouds from the west, brief downpours cooling the hot sand and steaming off the coquina rocks, board walks and the concrete and asphalt of highway A1A.  We would return home for dinner and then, more often than not, spend summer evenings watching the submarine races (our beach equivalent of “parking”) or better yet observing the sea turtles digging their nests.  Yes, life was indeed a beach in those days, another world scented with coconut oil and the sweet smell of sand, ocean air and grassy sea oats.

Sarah Horowitz Parfums Life’s a Beach conjures these memories for me with a mesmerizing combination of colors and scents that bring my youthful experiences to life.  Beginning with the cool aqua of bergamot and mint, Sarah Horowitz Parfums Life’s a Beach opens like a dawn breeze off the sea, scenting the juicy sweetness of fresh cut pineapple with salt, citrus and mint.  As the sun rises, Life’s a Beach warms to a heart of golden, honeyed orange blossoms and sea salt. Hints of coconut oil and suggestions suntan lotion play off of Sarah Horowitz Thran’s “Summer Skin” accord, creating the perfect impression of radiant, sun kissed skin. Sarah Horowitz Parfums Life’s a Beach has me basking on an olfactory beach blanket for several hours before the warmth of the summer afternoon gives way to a sweet, dusky sensuality, an evening scented with the perfumer’s signature Pacific and African Musks.

  • The most interesting aspect of this fragrance is the “summer skin” accord! Also, the combination of sweet (pineapple) and salty (salt!) is quite reminiscent of cocktails at the beach. I am intrigued. I have never tried any of the perfumes of this line but I would like to of course. I live in the USA.

  • chrisskins says:

Would I rather watch the sun rise or walk on the sun. Would I rather listen to an orchestra or be one note. Would I rather wear summer on my wrists, neck, temples or swim parallel to the shore. I’m the person under the palm tree saving the beach chairs and guarding the room keys. I am most intrigued by the pineapple note (!) in Life’s a Beach. My favorite Sarah Horowitz-Thran is Perfect Veil, because you never forget your first. I live in the USA.

  • This sounds like a summer beauty! What appeals to me is the fruity/salty vibe of the fragrance – nice and tropical. My perfect beach is emerald green waters with beautiful vegetation and hills all around tucked in a cove to avoid monster waves. USA

  • Carisa Tyler says:

I really love perfume- especially niche houses! So many olfactory geniuses out there! I’d love to win this bottle- it sounds like it smells like a beachy dream!

  • Elizabeth Breen says:

I love Sarah’s perfumes and especially my custom blend Perdu Alors Trouve. Which loosely translated means lost then found. I have a beach getaway and I always feel I am found again there. Like this writer I have many profound moments and wonderful memories walking in the sand.

  • Sarah is such a unique and inspiring perfumer! As an educator, I love watching her stories. Not only is she extremely talented and unique in her perfuming; but she’s incredibly informative in perfume care and history. I treasure the scents that I have from her here in NYC.

  • patrick_348 says:

I have to confess that I am not a beach person. My ideal beach would be one that I am at off-season, so it is not crowded, and when it is warm enough that I could go in the water, but not so warm that I would want to just to cool down. I love Gail’s description of it as “an olfactory beach blanket for several hours before the warmth of the summer afternoon gives way to a sweet, dusky sensuality.” It is vivid and descriptive without falling into purple prose. I am in the US and don’t know the perfumer’s other fragrances.

  • I am instantly drawn in by the mention of musks. The Pacific and African musks have my full attention. I imagine what they must smell like on a beach whose shore is brightened by fluttering moonlight due to clouds continuously floating across the light’s source. When the light does get its brief opportunity to touch earth, I am taken aback by a near fluorescent blue ocean whose clarity can seemingly be witnessed by moonlight alone. This is my idea of my perfect beach. (Commenting from FL, USA.)

  • Based on this review this scent very much appeals to me. To be transported to summers at the beach. The summer skin note sounds so interesting. I would love to try it. In the USA. Thanks.

  • What a great list (for me) of notes. Imagining what this creation could possibly smell like appeals to me. US

  • The Life’s a Beach perfume really captures the essence of summer. I love the combinations of the sweet and salt and of course the coconut which is a personal favorite of mine. It is just a great perfume!

  • NiceVULady says:

It sounds as though Life’s A Beach truly captures the scents of days spent lounging in front of the ocean. There have been a number of beaches that I’ve liked. When I was younger the French and Italian Riviera really impressed me. Now, I like the Long Island beaches where the chill of the water takes your breath away after the heat of the sun or the rocky beaches such as found in the Pacific Northwest and in Maine. They also have a great allure. Thanks for a great review and a generous draw. I’m in the USA

  • I did not grow up near the beach but have gotten the opportunity to enjoy it’s pleasures as an adult, spending my honeymoon and many of my 40 subsequent anniversaries on beaches on the west coast so it is a rather romantic place for me. I loved Gail’s vivid memories of her childhood spent near the sea. I would also love to experience an east coast beach…maybe someday! I am in the US.

  • Back in the day, we all smelled of coconut oil at the beach, lol. I loved looking at the colorful sand particles shimmering in the sun. Yes, I remember peace and warmth. USA

  • redwheelbarrow says:

I love sun lotion scents. I grew up on the coast as well and that suntan lotion scent reminds me of happy times spending nearly every summer day at the beach. The addition of mint sounds really lovely alongside the citrus-y, suntan scents. This sounds gorgeous. Thank you for the draw and the summer memories. I am in the US.

  • I grew up near the beaches of California, so beachy fragrances of all kinds draw me. Life’s a Beach makes me smile just from the name alone. I’m curious about the fantasy note of “Summer Skin.” My favorite beach experience is sunset over the water. Thanks for the review and the draw. In the USA.

  • Love pineapple and salt in a fragrance. Would like wearing this, pretending I am on a beach while, working in my office.

  • doveskylark says:

I love easy breezy fragrances that evoke suntan lotion and coconuts and pineapples. When I feel stressed, I often cuddle with a beach towel or beach blanket whee the smell of suntan lotion always lingers, despite numerous washings. I haven’t tried any of Sarah Horowitz-Thran’s perfumes. I want to try this one because I will be spending some time in the Northeast of Brazil in a few months.
    I live in the USA.

  • The most interesting that appeals to me about the fragrance is …”Sarah Horowitz Parfums Life’s a Beach feels like a soothing, protective suntan lotion for the soul that transports me to peaceful, happy times…” I love that it creates fantasies and a sense of relaxation, leisure and pleasure. Perfect beach would be the one that’s not crowded with stretches of blue waters and cool breeze.
    I live in USA.

  • An olfactory beach blanket?! Yes please. Sounds lovely. I’m already a fan of Perfect Coconut Milk. I’m in the US.

  • wildevoodoo says:

I’m a fan of sunscreen fragrances but I often find myself wishing that they had a bit more complexity to them beyond the ‘standard’ recognizably sunscreen scent. The addition of pineapple, salt, bergamot, and mint sound just different enough to be unique while still capturing the beautifully summery nuance that sunscreen frags encapsulate. I’m a huge fan of salty notes besides! Just reading Gail’s description is relaxing, evoking the lazy, contented feeling of a perfect beach. I also love her description of the beaches of her childhood! That would be my perfect beach too- unspoiled, uncrowded, just me and the fish and the sand and the surf, and a cold drink of course! I am in the US 🙂

  • Carrie Earle Hardison says:

I love anything that has a beachy/summery/tropical vacation vibe. I don’t currently own any of Sarah’s fragrances but this sounds like the perfect scent to start with.

  • Lynn Morosoff says:

My mom recently passed… Her favorite place was long beach island, she loved the beach….. Now I’m hooked on anything that smells like the beach… This fragrance sounds so great…. I’m thinking its a fresh clean scent with the smell of ocean and sun tan lotion… Can’t wait to try it….

  • VerbenaLuvvr says:

Sounds delicious. I’m such a fan of mint for summer, and I need more pineapple in my life. Perfect Veil is my fave scent by Sarah. I live in the US and thanks for this chance.

  • Katherine Delano says:

I really enjoyed Gail memories and I love Perfect Bliss! Would be thrilled to win Life’s a beach

  • roxhas1cat says:

Gail’s article took me back to my growing up days in Huntington Beach CA before it became so crowded and commercial. I haven’t been back “home” in 15 years and from I’ve been told I wouldn’t recognize my hometown. Maybe I just need this fragrance to transport me. I am embarrassed to say I have not tried Sarah’s fragrances, even though I have heard many people sing her praises. Thanks for the great article.

  • This perfume just not only looks amazing, but the description of it describes a perfect vacation for me and I would love to try it. My perfect beach is clear blue waters and soft sand! I live in Virginia, USA.

  • Warren Woodward (Woody) says:

Many notes and notions well known by all with summer memories by the water. Representing the spa of nature, free, rejuvenating and sensual. I have not experienced any of Sarah’s fragrances but, am very impressed by her enterprising drive and use of nature sourced aromas for her creations. I first noticed Sarah as a student of the revered Mandy Aftel. My entry is not only for my wife to wear and enjoy but, to also share Sarah’s brand grass roots style. My wife’s work places her around hundreds of coworkers and the public. She does her best to always look professional and smell lovely. Hoping for an opportunity to share nature sourced perfume ❤️ from west central Illinois USA.

  • Sounds so pretty! There aren’t too many fragrances that contain pineapple as one of the notes. Creed Aventus is the only one I’ve ever smelled that does. This sounds like such a great summer fragrance!
    I live in the US.

  • laureneboucher says:

The pineapple and coconut notes are very appealing to me. It sounds like the perfect day at the beach! There were a few beaches in Anguilla I loved… calm water at the perfect temperature. But I also love going to Cape Cod as well. As long as its warm enough to swim I’ll get in!

  • Thanks Gail for another great review. This sounds like it would be an excellent replacement for Creed’s Virgin Island Water which was a love-at-first-sniff for me. I’ve not sampled Sarah Horowitz’ other fragrances and would love to start with this one. I’m in TX USA

  • I loved the nostalgia Gail brought up about her childhood growing up around the beach and how this fragrance evoked that for her, the notes of the fragrance, pineapple, salt, pacific musk, coconut, summer skin all seem like an incredible combo for a summer fragrance, that I would love to try!

  • WHat interests me is that it takes some summary notes and mixes it with the oily summer skin accord. I just went to the beach and the mix of some coconut oil with my SOTD is amazing.
My perfect beach is hot, sunny, clean, very hot water, with lots of people around.
Im int he US. thanks for the draw

  • I love the fact that this beach scent has pineapple in it!!! That’s what caught me in the review. My face SW is Coeur de Sang. I’m in USA. This is a killer giveaway.

  • What appeals to me is the possibility if experiencing a sun-filled day at the beach in a fragrance. My perfect beach has clear, warm water and soft, white sand and sits a few hundred feet from a rarely traveled road.

  • Lisa F Collins says:

The descriptions of Life’s a Beach reminded me of my favorite beach holiday. I was ten years old and we sipped on Tangelo juiced fresh off the trees from my uncle’s grove in the morning. Then in late morning/early afternoons we basked in the Florida sun. This perfume sounds like it would take me back to those carefree days. I haven’t tried any of Sarah Horowitz perfumes but I’d love to.

  • Michael Prince says:

  • Thanks for another great review, Gail! I love beach scents and this sounds just right up my alley. I love this part of your description- ‘ “Summer Skin” accord, creating the perfect impression of radiant, sun kissed skin.’ My favorite Sarah Horowitz is The Now. I hope I get the chance to smell this. Thanks for this opportunity. – CA, USA

  • Interesting vibe this fragrance has. Reading Gail Gross review felt like I’m eating the classic Coconut Pineapple Cake made with lime freshly squeezed juice, and garnished with fresh mint sprigs. I’m Pastry Chef, and I really like this cake.
My perfect beach right now would be eating the Coconut Pineapple Cake I’ve mentioned on some not overly populated beach, and enjoining time.
Appreciate the review, and the giveaway campaign

  • I’m appealed to ‘Life is a Beach’ how it is described that this fragrance brings back all the memories of endless days spent at the beach. So warm and so relaxed. Emotions which I figure will come immediately when you spray this EdP on. My favorite beach is Clearwater in Florida. It’s all you dream of. I live inTampa, FL.

  • ” Beginning with the cool aqua of bergamot and mint, Sarah Horowitz Parfums Life’s a Beach opens like a dawn breeze off the sea, scenting the juicy sweetness of fresh cut pineapple with salt, citrus and mint.”

If i have to describe Gail Gross review with one word , “mouthwatering” will be the one . Sun kissed skin , coconut , bergamote – exactly what i need at the moment.
Perfect beach ? With my family on some wild beach , smiling and playing with my kid.

Laying on the beach with some citrus cocktail, watching the waves and spraying myself with coconut oil. What else do you need? A fragrance well suited for the beach, and according to Gail Gross review Life’s a Beach could be the the one.
Thank you Gail for the review.

  • I love the playfull name of the fragrance. I also love a fresh orange blossom! Life is getting tough. Maybe this fragrance can help remind me life is just a beach 🙂

  • Excellent review by Gail and I love beach fragrances! All of her fragrances have been very good. I enjoyed this line: ” a breezy and sunny fragrance, to calm and refocus the mind and spirit.” Who doesn’t want a fragrance that does that? I also enjoyed this one: “With Life’s a Beach Sarah Horowitz-Thran once again translates emotion into fragrance, evoking fantasies, realities and memories, creating a sense of relaxation, leisure and peaceful pleasure.” Thanks so much for the giveaway and I live in the US!

  • I love the scent accord and so much about the different ingredients and realize I would like to try this. I like and love this review especially the name of the fragrance, Life’s a Beach. I live in USA
