Kierin NYC Sunday Brunch Review (Mathieu Nardin) + Invigorating Tea Draw

Kierin NYC Sunday Brunch review

Kierin NYC was first presented at ÇaFleureBon through a piece written by the brand’s own President, Mona Maine de Biran (co-founder of the company along with her husband, Didier Maine de Biran, and Chris Rosasco), for our Çafleurebon Profiles in American Perfumery Series. Reading it, I was intrigued by Mona’s life philosophy and experiences, as well as delighted with the brand’s ethos which combines both environmental awareness (cruelty-free, vegan, non-toxic, recyclable and sustainable fragrances), and social consciousness (diversity and inclusion are essential to the brand’s founders).

My delight was enhanced after actually testing all four Kierin NYC scents, Sunday Brunch, 10 A.M. Flirt, Santal Sky and Nitro Noir. Created by Mathieu Nardin of Mane, the fragrances are modern, straightforward, vibrant, and high-spirited compositions that defy age and gender. Of the four scents it was Kierin NYC Sunday Brunch that emerged as my personal favorite due to its euphoric aura and its most convincing, addictively enjoyable Earl Grey tea accord.

Although the use of tea as a main note is a relatively recent phenomenon (it all started in 1992 with Jean-Claude Ellena’s hugely influential Eau Parfumée au Thé Vert for Bulgari, whose unexpected success led many other brands to include tea-based scents in their collections), there are already several fragrances featuring – interesting to remarkable – tea accords (to name but a few: Bulgari Eau Parfumée au Thé Blanc/Thé Rouge/Thé Noir/Thé Bleu, Elizabeth Arden Green Tea, Hermès Osmanthe Yunnan, M. Micallef Ananda Tchai, L’Artisan Parfumeur Tea for Two and Thé Pour un Été, Parfums de Nicolaï Fig Tea, By Kilian Imperial Tea, Masque Milano Russian Tea, Mona di Orio Bohea Bohème, The Body Shop Fuji Green Tea, and Roger & Gallet Thé Vert and Thé Fantaisie). Concerning Earl Grey tea notes in particular, along with Earl Grey from the Japanese brand Édit(h) (whose fragrances I tried at an exhibition last year, but are still impossible to purchase outside Japan) Kierin NYC Sunday Brunch features the most realistic note of the beloved bergamot-infused black tea I’ve personally come across.

 Best tea fragrances

The disarming charm and universal appeal of Kierin NYC Sunday Brunch lies in its simplicity and harmonious balance between the slightly smoky black tea note, the sweet and luminous bergamot, and the zesty and invigorating lemon (with just a touch of non-indolic jasmine added to enhance the impression of tea, and smooth out any sharp edges). Apart from the listed notes there are also hints of petitgrain, mild spices, as well as a clean-musky undercurrent. Overall, Sunday Brunch is a rather linear fragrance, with more than fair performance considering how fleeting citrus notes usually are (especially in warm weather). And although the fragrance doesn’t really evolve much, enjoying its exuberant, breezy, vivacious aroma of lemon-enriched Earl Grey unaltered for 3-4 hours is nothing short of a delight.

Energetic and calming at the same time,  Sunday Brunch evokes more than the familiar pleasure of enjoying a highly aromatic cup of tea: it exudes friendliness, bringing to the wearer feelings (or memories) of cosiness and comfort. I actually tested the fragrance during a family brunch while visiting Greece, and it worked as a lovely mood enhancer; it pleased everybody in the room, and made the occasion even more memorable. An instant pick-me-up and a formidable energy booster, Kierin NYC Sunday Brunch offers uncomplicated, pure joy.

Notes: Italian Bergamot, Lemon, Earl Grey, Jasmine.

Disclaimer: I’d like to thank Kierin NYC for my bottle of Sunday Brunch. The opinions are my own.

  • I did not yet use any tea fragrances myself, but I love Earl Grey tea. I find its aroma to be very grounding and also complex, for actually quite a simple blend. I would love to experience that in Sunday Brunch and the jasmine addition would be right up my alley, since I also love jasmine flavored tea. I would love the discovery set. From EU.

  • I liked learning that the reviewer wore the scent for testing during a brunch. Tea based fragrances are some of my favorites. Cheers from Oregon!

  • I absolutely love tea fragrances. This one from kierin NYC sounds amazing. My favourite tea fragrance is costume national scent intense. Thanks for the chance , Oakland USA

This sounds like the best day ever in a bottle! I love tea and tea fragrances, and earl grey is at the very top of my loves! My favorite part of this review is how it was a mood lifter at Despina’s family brunch, that’s how earl grey makes me feel too – just in a place of gratitude and appreciating the little things and enjoying company. I would so love to win the bottle of Sunday Brunch, thanks for the draw! Live in the US.

  • I like that it has a slightly smoky black tea note. I’d love to win and discover the 50 ml bottle of Sunday Brunch. Thanks for the draw! USA

Kierin is an environmentally friendly brand. The article notes rightfully Elena started the tea fragrances trend with eau vert which I love. Sunday Brunch has one of the most realistic earl grey tea accord Despina has smelled. My choice is Sunday Brunch bottle. I am in US.

  • I love earl grey tea, so this is totally my jam, I’m in for the FB. I enjoyed Despina ‘s review and how the scent made her tea in Greece more memorable! She will always remember that time with her family now! Thank you for the draw and review, I’m in the US.

  • Stephanie Collins says:

I like how Sunday Brunch was described in the review, especially how it is a very realistic Earl Grey Tea scent! I would want to try Sunday Brunch the most. Thank you for the opportunity to enter to win 🙂

  • The note of tea has become of great interest to me as of late. I have yet to smell Earl Grey tea and would love to get my nose on it. I would be interested in the full bottle giveaway. (Commenting from FL, USA)

  • This fragrance sounds amazing. My favorite part of the review was the statement that Sunday Brunch is a “harmonious balance between the slightly smoky black tea note, the sweet and luminous bergamot, and the zesty and invigorating lemon.” Should love to win the 50ml bottle. Thanks, from California.

I drink Earl Grey tea every day and summer colognes with an evident tea accord are my favorites (f.ex. Green Tea Camelia Elizabeth Arden, Inlé Memo, Figuier d’Eden Armani). I really like the concept and packaging of this brand, now curious about the juices. Thank you for your generousity, I would love to enter the draw for the full bottle. NYC, USA

  • I truly enjoyed reading about this zesty tea fragrance. I have used a few tea fragrances myself and I love the delicate burst of energy they bring. I live in the USA and would love to win the 50 ml bottle. Thank you!

  • For me, perfume should intoxicate (and make one a little hungry) the sense, not assault… and being a tea lover, Despina Veneti has set my memory palate to taste as well as smell.

  • I forgot to say I am Upstate NY and would love to experience this new tea fragrance

  • I wouldn’t mind wearing the scent of Earl Grey tea. Yes! I enjoy tea fragrances in general. For the draw I’d love to win the bottle. US

Fabulous dish- earl grey over rice.
Fabulous scent: an A.M. taste of the only-and-one tea of my choice.
Alluring possibility- to experience Earl Grey as a perfume

  • Overall expression from this article …. there’s something really close to me. Unlike Mona i still travel non-stop worldwide. For how long…don’t know yet.
Reading this was like listening an old song called “On the road again” .
First part of Despina article expresses both Mona and my own lives to a certain degree…i think. Never smelled any by this new house , but props to the owners for going against the strеam. To introduce new fragrance brand, to hire known perfumer , and to sell relatively cheap for the niche market … balls of steel you got -all of you Mona , Didier and Chris.

I’m really curious about the fuzz for Sunday Brunch.
“formidable energy booster” – YES please. I guess i’m all in for the bottle.

  • Sebastian says:

I have not tried any tea fragrance, but would love to. This one sounds charmingly simple, with just the four main notes listed. I wonder how lively bergamot and lemon combine with tea and jasmine to produce friendliness, and I hope it’s not all going to end up bland and boring. The review certainly suggests it won’t, and that would intrigue me. As we’re just having a hot weather spell, a mood buster like that would be just what I require. Thanks for the opportunity. I live in Germany, so I am in for the discovery set.

  • I’ve never owned a tea fragrance but I love iced black tea with lemon! 🙂 Despina said it exudes friendliness and I’d like to project that. I’m all in to try and win the bottle of Sunday Brunch. Just seems like the one for me. Thanks for the giveaway and the review. In the USA.

Good vibes only philosophy is how I feel, but sometimes it’s hard to be positive when there’s mostly negative people where you work . At least at home we all smiling.

Traveling is a must for me, when I have free time. I like to visit more non-tourists places
I have to say I really like Andy Warhol inspired bottle design .

Tea fragrances are perfect for the spring or summer nights weather, so I’d like to win a bottle of Sunday Brunch.

Appreciate the review, and the giveaway campaign.

Some nice tea choices Despina . Russian Tea is fantastic.
As a free spirit and extrovert myself , i feel Mona a lot. KIERIN fragrances are getting a lot of hype lately – on Youtube and Basenotes. Everyone is raving about Sunday Brunch , and how good it is.If i win no doubt it wii be my choice.50ml for me

I also apreciate both the presentation and how afordable it is. If Sunday Brunch is as good as they say $78 / 50ml will be a big time steal .

I love tea scents and Earl Grey is a particular favorite of mine. This sounds just terrific for the summer. Would love to try it. Thank you for a most interesting review and a most generous draw. I’m in the USA.

  • i adore earl grey tea as tea proper as well as in fragrance. the one *i* like best (so far) is angela flanders’ earl grey, which is a really nice perfume and does smell vaguely like earl grey, but does NOT, as despina says about sunday brunch, have a ” most convincing, addictively enjoyable Earl Grey tea accord.” so therefore — it’s sunday brunch i would choose. (US)

  • I remember well Kierin introduction here. appreciate strong woman , who knows what they want, and how to get it. I like how she traveled a lot during the years, lived on different places , and learned foreign languages.

Now she found new goals. Best wishes with Kierin NYC.

Great artist to be inspired from.

I also have to say I really like the White bottles design – funky and classy at the same time.

Like to drink tea 2-3 times per day, so I’m curious about Sunday Brunch.
“Kierin NYC Sunday Brunch features the most realistic note of the beloved bergamot-infused black tea I’ve personally come across”
Nice . It’s both affordable , and realistic smelling?
I’d like to win a bottle.

Thanks Despina for the fine job.

  • I just love the earl grey tea and I think Sunday Brunch is amazing for summer. I am curious about the discovery set. I live in EU (Romania).

  • Well all of these fragrances sounds very good from the base of the notes. And I like tea fragrances. Thank you for the chance. I live in the EU.

  • I really enjoy tea fragrances so I’l choose the 50ml Sunday Brunch. I enjoyed the honest feedback on the fragrance. USA

  • I don’t own any tea fragrances, but I love the smell of Earl Grey, so this one really intrigues me. I’d love to win the bottle of Sunday Brunch. I’m in Oklahoma, USA.

  • “Good vibes only“ I remember was the motto of Kierin owners – way of life is meant for few…of us. Kierin name I’ve heard ll, and yes each and every review I’ve seen up until now is giving gold medal to Sunday Brunch as the best one from the four. Usually I do not care much about other people opinion hyping up big time fragrances, but ….. Each and every review is positive. Most realistic black tea with bergamot ? Now even I’m curious because of Despina claims.
If I happen to be the winner, Sunday Brunch bottle will be my choice.
    Thanks

Even though I’m not a huge tea drinker I do love tea scents. Bulgari’s The au Vert is one of my favorites and also the darker L’Artisan’s Tea for Two. This sounds like a truly unique tea scent and I would love to add a bottle to my collection. I like how all of the scents in the collection are tied to NYC. I live in the US.

  • Despina, I love that you wore Sunday Brunch to actual brunch! This scent sounds like such a carefree mood lifter. I enjoy tea perfumes so your declaration that this one is one of *the* most realistic has me intrigued, particularly since there are some other elements tucked into the composition that sound like they make for a sunny, happy perfume. I’m an avid tea drinker, usually several cups a day of different varieties from Earl Grey to Genmaicha to Tie Guan Yin Oolong and the fragrance of each tea is the main contributor to the flavor, I think my perfume and tea appreciation come from the same place in me. I like the very modern bottle design, too. I’m in the USA and would love to win the 50mL of Kierin NYC Sunday brunch. I think I’d wear it a lot!

  • I love that it exudes friendliness with feelings of coziness and comfort. Also enjoyed this…”simplicity and harmonious balance between the slightly smoky black tea note, the sweet and luminous bergamot, and the zesty and invigorating lemon…”
Tea fragrances are new to me. I’m yet to find out my real thoughts on them.
I would love the 50ml bottle.
    I’m a USA resident.

  • I love that Despina, described this scent as comforting and cozy and testing the scent at an actual brunch is the best way to test a scent called Sunday Brunch. Keirin NYC makes such lovely fragrances and I would really love to win a bottle of Sunday Brunch, I tested the scents and of the 4 this one is my favorite! I live in the USA!

  • VerbenaLuvvr says:

I love citrus tea fragrances, so perfect for summer–and the more lemon, the better. I own The Vert, as well as Commodity Tea, Carthusia Mediterraneo, and others of the tea theme. I am not yet familiar with this house, so I would select the sampler if chosen. I live in the US and thank you for this chance.

  • IvanVelikov says:

Props to Mona Maine de Biran for being strong and committed young women . Everyone should follow their dreams.

I think Mathieu Nardin is a rising star perfumer – Cafe Chantant is one of my favorite fragrances I’ll never get rid of.

KIERIN NYC I never had a chance to smell , but I do remember your contributor Sebastian , Brooklyn Fragrance Lover and a few others did positive reviews on YouTube , and the first article on Cafleurebon of course .

Quality niche fragrances with fair prices Is something rare nowadays .

“exuberant, breezy, vivacious aroma of lemon-enriched Earl Grey unaltered for 3-4 hours is nothing short of a delight.”

Now because of Despina the hype train will continue . Delights I like .

I’m lucky I want to get 50ml of Sunday Brunch.

    Thanks.

  • I have not tried any tea fragrances as of yet. I like that they specifically said it defies age or gender. Also that it is the most realistic scent of bergamot infused black tea Despina has smelled. I’d enjoy either the bottle or the discovery set. I suppose the discovery set because it seems more people want the bottle. In the U.S. Thanks

  • Thank-You Despina and Kierin NYC for the thorough review and bottle of Sunday Brunch. I enjoy the smell of tea and this sounds like an unusually long lasting pleasing as well as energizing scent. I’ve not been lucky enough yet to of tried any fragrances from this house and I’d love to win a bottle of Sunday Brunch. USA

  • The only tea fragrance that I have sampled, and really enjoy is Gallivant’s Berlin. I’ve been waiting to sample L’Artisan Tea for Two as well. Great review! I have read and watched really good reviews regarding Kierin NYC. I would choose the full bottle of Sunday Brunch. Thank you for the draw! US.

  • I love the idea from Despina of wearing Sunday Brunch during a family brunch which enhanced the mood and event. If I had to choose the one I would love the 50ml of Sunday Brunch. I live in USA.

  • wildevoodoo says:

This sounds absolutely delightful. I am a huge fan of tea fragrances (Masque Milano’s Russian Tea and L’Artisan Tea foro Two in particular, along with Bvlgari’s Eau Parfumée collection all number among my favorites!) and of tea itself, and I completely agree that it is a difficult note to recreate well. I’m constantly searching for well-done tea fragrances, and Earl Grey is one of my favorite kinds of tea overall- I infuse it into ice cream and chocolate along with drinking it straight! It’s great to hear that the Earl Grey note in this composition is so long-lasting, since one of the most frustrating experiences can be finding a great tea fragrance where the tea note itself fades within mere minutes. It also sounds like the energizing yet calming effect is the same as that of the tea itself, which is wonderful! Sunday Brunch sounds the best to me of all the Kierin fragrances, so I choose the 50ml. I am in the US 🙂

  • Heard a lot of good about this House and Sunday Brunch has been getting great reviews. A fragrance that makes you feel good. Hope to get a chance to try. Thanks, US

  • Nathan Cherry says:

I loved Despina’s review! Very descriptive, evocative writing that really made me interested in the fragrance. I love tea fragrances! My favorites would be L’Artisan Tea For Two, Masque Milano Russian Tea, Nishane Wulong Cha, Comme des Garcons Nomad Tea…the list goes on and on. It’s one of my favorite notes. I would like to win the 50 ml and I live in Alabama, USA.

I am a fan of tea fragrances, so I’ve been wanting to get my nose on Sunday Brunch. All of the Kierin NYC fragrances have my attention. I’m in the USA.

  • LORI LAWS says:

Excellent review by Despina! I love tea fragrances and I am intrigued with the combination of tea and bergamot. I love L’Artisan’s Tea for Two and Masque Milano’s Russian Tea. My favorite line in this review was: “The disarming charm and universal appeal of Kierin NYC Sunday Brunch lies in its simplicity and harmonious balance between the slightly smoky black tea note, the sweet and luminous bergamot, and the zesty and invigorating lemon (with just a touch of non-indolic jasmine added to enhance the impression of tea, and smooth out any sharp edges).” My choice would be the full bottle. Thanks for the draw and I am in the US!

  • I love lemon or ginger tea. Would love to try Kierin. Thanks, all the best from the Netherlands, Europe

Despina, great review of Kierin NYC Sunday Brunch. It sounds like a pleasant citrus (lemon and bergamot) and Earl Gray Tea fragrance that is perfect for the summer. I really do enjoy tea fragrances as well. I am from the USA. I would pick the 50ml bottle if I win.

For me this descriptions; “vibrant, and high-spirited compositions” and “energetic and same time calming” enough for being intrigued.

  • Thanks for this wonderful review, Despina! I absolutely love tea and tea fragrances! What I liked most in your article is your description of Sunday Brunch- ‘Energetic and calming at the same time,  Sunday Brunch evokes more than the familiar pleasure of enjoying a highly aromatic cup of tea: it exudes friendliness, bringing to the wearer feelings (or memories) of cosiness and comfort’..

I haven’t tried any perfume from Kierin yet so thanks for this opportunity. I’d like to win the 50ml bottle of Sunday Brunch.- CA, USA

I really like the part of the review where Despina wrote that Sunday Brunch exudes friendliness. What a wonderful attribute for a fragrance to have. Oh, how I’d love to try this one on traveling around the world, making friends wherever I go.
I like Bulgari’s Green Tea perfume.
I would choose the discovery kit.

Sounds very interesting and real super fresh- harmonious balance between the smoky black tea note, th luminous bergamot and the zesty lemon + little bit musk, jasmine.

  • I’ve been seeing so many YouTube reviews of this perfume house and I’ve really been wanting to try them out! Sunday Brunch was the one I was most interested in, too, because I love the notes of tea (especially earl grey) and to combine it with bergamot and lemon sounds incredible!! I really need to get samples of all their scents!
