Hermetica is a collection of molecular fragrances inspired by the ancient practice of alchemy, which sought to transform basic metals into precious materials and to find the ultimate elixir of life.” ~ HERMETICA website

One finds, these days – that it’s not always Easy Being Green. Just ask John and Clara Molloy, the founders of Memo Paris, whose love of discovery and wanderlust has recently led them into new olfactory territory: collaboration with the celebrated global producer of fragrance and flavor Symrise. They have employed perfumer Aliénor Massenet of IFF (Mme. Massenet created all the fragrances in their Memo Paris line) once again in the creation of their latest endeavor, Hermetica – a line of eaux de parfums intended to be clean, green, alcohol-free, moisturizing, refillable, long-lasting and cruelty free, combining both synthetic molecules and natural components, among other things.

Codex via Hermetica

The Prima Materia (as Hermetica refers to it) is a base accord named Source¹ described as a citrus oriental which includes bergamot, dry amber molecules (best supposition would be Ambrocenide, listed in Hermetica’s Codex) and fresh wood (referred to as Driftwood at Sea in Codex). Source¹ is also sold as an eau de parfum all by itself. It’s a form of olfactive leitmotiv which underlines all fragrances in the line and is Very Potent. Soyons bref – you will recognize its presence in each of Hermetica’s 12 scents; consider it Hermetica’s signature DNA. Transparency has been known to take the form of ruse, serving to obfuscate rather than enlighten. Not so here: to its considerable credit, Hermetica provides a user-friendly “Codex” which enables anyone to determine what’s in a particular scent in a single click. Now that’s transparent.

Hermetica Jade 888 seeks to evoke the Amazon rainforest – lush, dense, moist, exotic. It opens with a brilliant surge of blinding bergamot accompanied by florals which conjure fresh vegetation skewed sweet – lily of the valley and violet. A lovely ginger CO2 extract accents them, imbuing crisp piquancy and tonic effect. All of this is charming; I wish it continued apiece with this lilting tone. Hermetica Jade 888 moves rapidly to a pronounced tenacious woody/amber base which veers towards the aquatic. Although tendrils of greenly floral notes still hover, delicately poised – that which lingers feels relatively synthetic to my nose. Please bear in mind that you may not find it so. I have noted that this particular sort of base is very much loved and has been utilized by many perfumers of late, so much so that it seems like a trend – clearly it is popular, and I am probably in the minority. Jade 888 is a well-executed perfume, long-lasting and as moisturizing as it claims: when you apply it your skin feels silkier, smoother than it was pre-spritz. Its packaging is brilliant; the gilded cylinder peppered with dots somewhat resembles the smart speaker Amazon Echo Plus (if it were in gold). The flacon within is colored vivid stained-glass-window emerald green: tall, columnar and impossibly elegant, crowned with a heavy gold cap. The whole thing is just plain gorgeous. Both the Memo Paris and Hermetica collections bear the imprint of Clara and John Molloy’s vision as interpreted by Mme. Massenet: one smells it from the get-go.

Key Notes: Ginger Extract CO2, Lily of the Valley Molecule, and Green Musk Molecule.

Many thanks to Europerfumes the US Distributor of Hermetica for my tester! My nose is my own…

  • Wow! Hermetica Jade 888 sounds like the most lush, gorgeous, earthy goddess of a perfume ever made! I have so much appreciation for the phylosophy behind Hermetica, and I adore the Memo line so I know these will be amazing as well. I can't wait to get my nose on these one way or another, and I so appreciate the generous opportunity to win a bottle. Live in the US.

Hermetica Jade 888 affirms the fact that green fragrances are making a comeback. Reminds you of yesteryears when fragrances like vent vert came. These fragrances are taking advantage of new molecules to give us new type of green fragrances. I am not familiar with Hermetica fragrances. I am in US.

  • The notes to this are simple yet sound wonderful I love lilly of the valley and musk. The reviews here are always well written love them. I have not had a chance to try this house but would absolutely love to.

Thank you for the chance of the generouss giveaway, I live in North Carolina USA

  • I love amber so thr dry down sounds good to me. What really intrigued me though is thr blast of bergemont opening that i think would make this scent standout. I love Memo but never tried this new Hermetica line. I like the concept so i definetly want to give it try. Good review and thanks for the ooportunity. In tbe US.

  • So Interesting and so green!  I love the bottle and the simple ingredients sound perfect for spring.  I have not heard of Hermetica, I have heard of Memo, Paris.  Thank you for the chance to try it.   USA

I am not familiar with the house but it sounds fantastic. I love green fragrances and having traveled to the rainforest, I'd love a scent that could evoke that atmosphere. Great review as always and thank you for the opportunity. I live in Florida, USA.

  • I've actually never heard of Hermetica. I like that the perfume feels like an aquatic scent. I love those types of fragrances. But if this contains Lily of the Valley molecule, my skin pulls that note very well. So I think I'd really enjoy this. It's not often to find that note in a fragrance. I also think that bottle is gorgeous and regal.

    I live in the USA.

  • This is a new brand to me. I like that it's refillable, moisturizing and alcohol free. I'd love to try it. Thanks for the opportunity to sniff ! USA

  • Awesome review, Ida! I’ve never tried anything by Hermetica, but have heard lots of good things about them. What appeals to me about Jane 888 are the notes (it sounds like they would compliment each other deliciously), and my curiosity to smell that Ginger C02 note which I’ve never heard of until now.

  • I enjoy synthetic molecues from time to time and 888 has them. I wouldn't be disappointed if to my nose this finishes with an aquatic feel as it did the reviewer. Not familiar with Hermetica until just now. US

I'm intrigued by " clean, green, moizturizing, alcohol- free, long lasting" perfumes inspired by alchemy.

I like Memo perfumes, and hope I'll like this one too.

I'm not familiar with the Hemetica fragrances at all.  This particular fragrance sounds very interesting and I  like Ida's very balance review. It would be most intriguing to try.  Thanks for amost informative review and generous draw.  I'm in the USA

  • I loved this…’It opens with a brilliant surge of blinding bergamot accompanied by florals which conjure fresh vegetation skewed sweet – lily of the valley and violet’. I also love it’s woody/amber base and that it lasts a long time. The packaging is so awesome. I’m not familiar with Hermetica perfumes.

  • This review struck a chord with me, coming from Africa and having had the pleasure to experience nature up close, and evoked in me nostalgia for days gone and a good ol' lemon tree in our backyard. This sounds like a fragrance I'd love to wear 🙂

  • Of course i know Memo Paris , but not the younger brother.Jade 888 is right up my alley type of fragrance – bergamot with  florals , woody , ambery  and a bit aquatic aquatic base i really like.I also like it's a long lasting fragrance – a + no doubt.

Thank you Ida for the honest review , and Cafleurebon and Europerfumes for the draw.

    Cheers from VA

  • Ida did a great job of presenting a balanced review and I do like the idea of molecular perfumes that are clean and green. I own Memo African Leather so will be curious about Hermetica. Jade 888 sounds interesting and the ginger and lily of the valley appeals to me

  • I have heard the Hermetica brand from a YouTube reviewer called NotesPunch . He did a brand overview last week on his channel. Own a bottle of Tiger's Nest from Memo Paris , and over 10 samples. I so wanted to get African Leather too , but unfortunately I get average performance from it 🙁 Don't know how my brother in law projects like crazy with 2-3 sprays. Jade 888 ' s review by Ida Meister was honest,  and straight to the point. Nice bergamot start , classic woody – amber base , and on top of this decent performance. Appreciate the giveaway campaign, and Ida's review.  East coast USA

  • Reading Ida's review I got lost in the Rainforest of lush greens, exotic, and earthy with aquatic aspects. Hermetica Jade 888 sounds like the fragrance that I would love to wear a trip to the Amazon. This review and fragrance was simply beautiful and truly appeals to me. I live in CA, USA.

  • I love LOTV and musk but this combo sounds interesting and unique. The ginger zing and all. I have never heard of this house before now. USA

  • I do own the full Hermetica sample set , and my impressions are a bit different compaired to what miss Ida Meister is getting from Jade 888. I do not get "brilliant surge of blinding bergamot" . Sure there's some bergamot from the first spray , but on my skin Jade 888 is mostly woody, ambery fragrance with a lot of vetiver. To me it's well suited fragrance for a suit , and business meatings. It's marketed as unisex , but it leans masculine on me.

My personal favotite Hermetica fragrance is by far Sandalsun . Evety gourmand lover should sample it.

  • My eye was first caught with the ginger, but I was really intrigued with the lush, ripe/sweet moist green description of the perfume. I had first heard of this brand from LolaScents on youtube, but I still haven't smelled any of these scents in person.

I live in the USA; thanks for the giveaway!

  • Excellent reiview Ida! I have heard of Hermetica, but have not had the opportunity to try anything from the line. This has peaked my interest in Jade 888  " clean, green, moizturizing, alcohol- free, long lasting." The luscious greenery and the notes in this fragrance are going to take me to a place that I've long wanted to visit. Thanks for the giveaway and I live in the US!

  • I like the idea behind Hermetica fragrances – refillable, long lasting, water based, nice presentation and alcohol free. I have to explore this house . Blinding bergamot, florals , ginger with a bit aquatic woody and amber base. Should be a great one for the spring and summer. Nice job Ida , and thanks for the giveaway. USA
