Ormonde Jayne Champaca, Strangelove NYC LostInFlowers, Creed White Flowers + Winter White Floral Draw

As the Pacific Northwest was being hit with “Snowmageddon 2019” recently, I rode out the snow sitting snugly in my wood stove-warmed house staring out at the pasture and forest covered in white and dreaming (praying) for warm weather. On those bitterly cold days I found myself reaching for my “winter white floral perfumes”, those fragrances that serve to remind me of tropical heat, tan skin, and the windows and doors thrown wide open. Here are the three that sit at the front of my perfume cabinets, readily handy when heat and sun desperation sets in:

Ormonde Jayne Champaca: the perfect Winter White Floral perfume antidote to dreary weather, Ormonde Jayne Champaca is a ticket to Southeast Asia and India bottled for your pleasure, and oh what a pleasure it is to wear! From the first fragrant notes of the buttery tropical Champaca with a dash of spicy piquant pepper to the musk and acidic green tea drydown, Champaca places you right in the middle of a Moghul garden in a warm moonlit night. The warm wheaty scent of Basmati rice provides a glorious steamy hit of a just-opened rice cooker full of plump and fragrant grains. The bamboo adds a woody greenness and the freesia sweetens and lightens the jus with a floralcy that adds a watercolor bouquet splash of fresh air. Uplifting and joyous, Ormonde Jayne Champaca always manages to inject beams of sunlight to a winter’s day.

Notes: Neroli, pink pepper, bamboo, champaca absolute, basmati rice, freesia, musk, green tea.

Strangelove NYC LostInFlowers:  Let me tell you how much I love Strangelove NYC’s LostInFlowers: it was the ONLY perfume I chose to take with me to the Milan Esxence perfume expo last year. Surrounded by thousands of bottles of fine fragrance, Perfume Provocateur Christophe Laudamiel’s extraordinary tribute to white florals garnered me so many compliments I stopped counting. I was wearing the perfume oil rather than the edp, and one drop of this potent concoction surrounds you in a “heaven-scent” mist of gardenia, champaca, and lily of the valley. Combining with the dusty straw-like element of marigold and the slightest skank and depth of oud, LostinFlowers is an unforgettable and head-spinning magic carpet ride through a heavily-scented boudoir. Dazzling, hypnotic, and sexy as hell, LostinFlowers is the sin qua non of white white floral perfumes. Notes: Indian red champaca oil, lily of the valley, saffron, marigold, gardenia, oud

Creed White Flowers  Stepping away from the bromance bottles of Creed Aventus, one can find great offerings in the rest of the range like the extraordinary Royal Oud, or Spice And Wood among others, all due to the genius of M. Oliver Creed and his re-imagining and re-awakening of the brand. One of his very best and most successful Creeds is White Flowers, the BWF’s lovers’ BWF (Big White Floral). Creed White Flowers is pretty much everything you want in a winter white floral, but amped up to a stunning level. Imagine a perfect spring wedding in an apple orchard with the scent of apple blossom in the air, and newly mown green grass below. Now fill that bower with multitudes of blooms; narcissus or paper whites, jasmine, roses, and geranium among others, throw in some sun-warmed tree trunks and you’ll get the conceptual idea of of Creed White Flowers. This is floral scent that’s as good as it gets, and that’s saying a lot coming from me. Best of all, various Creeds including White Flowers have been popping up for sale at our local Costco with a price, albeit still high, that can’t be beat. I urge you to buy a sample, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed! Notes: Violet leaves, green apple, lemon, jasmine, geranium, rose, musk, sandalwood, narcissus.

Disclosure: Thanks so much to Europerfumes for Ormonde Jayne Champaca for this Winter White Floral article. The opinions are my own.

  • I do know three of two of the three scents reviewed, Champaca and White Flowers and I think they are both masterpieces so yes, I agree with Robert, they are an interesting alternative to the smokey/piney/gourmande perfumes I enjoy in the winter.. I definitely like Champaca more, White Flowers gives me a feeling exhilarating joy at the first sniff but after twenty minutes or so the initial high is gone and I am ready for something else. Champaca, on the other side, is more like an enduring love on my skin.

  • I like the idea of finding a winter white flower fragrance to wear during the colder months. I usually am drawn to incense and leather scents in winter, but flowers would be a great and welcomed choice. Thanks for the article. USA

  • I have not smelled any of these but Champaca Absolute with champaca and basmati rice note seems it will appeal to me. Rice notes can create an effect of pudding/dessert. I am in US.

  • Sounds warm and delicious! Just what I need after a dearly pacific northwest winter! In in Oregon USA

  • I havent smelled any of these either but the buttery flower and musk of the ormande jayne sounds wonderful. I love ormande janye Taif. Thanks for the article. The creed ine sounds great as well.

  • I love white florals in winter! Robert’s description of Champaca is transporting – ‘right in the middle of a Moghul garden on a warm, moonlit night.’ I love OJ Frangipani, and would be thrilled to try Champaca. Thanks for the drawing – I’m in the US.

  • Wow!! I love Champaca! I am so grateful for an opportunity to win such an incredible fragrance, especially after reading Robert’s inspiring review! I’m in the US 🙂

  • The weather in pacific north west has been just awful but I like the idea of white florals for winter and would love champaca. I need to test the Strangelove nyc too

  • White florals bringing some summer in winter… and what choices. I have smelled Champaca, but neither of the other two which both sound amazing, they are going on my “to test” list. I am in the US.

  • Well, the desert southwestern US is having our own ‘snowmageddon’ this year and we are all getting a bit testy in this unusually cold weather. I’m dreaming of spring as well and Champaca sounds irresistible right now. Thank you for the chance! I am in the CONUS.

  • Big white flowers were definitely the way to go during our Pacific Northwest winter storm! Luckily, we made sure to have a big supply of hot chocolate in the house 🙂 I wore Amoureuse – powerhouse floral with honey. Thank you for the drawing! I am in the US

  • Subzero temps where I live, soooooo ready for this winter to be over.  It will be several months before any flowers bloom here.  Champaca sounds lovely.  Ormonde Jayne fragrances are interesting and lovely, my favorite so far is Tolu.  I live in the US and thanks for this chance.

  • I love the smell of basmati rice cooking.  This seems new and exciting!  Thanks for the another descriptive review!  In the USA.

  • Big White Florals are so attractive in the cold winter months.  They positively bring back warmth and sunshine.  I don't know any of the selctions, but they all sound divine.  Thanks for the review and draw.  I'm in the USA

  • I adore Robert's picks for winter white florals. I love the smell of champaca essential oil so I am really interested in trying this perfume. thanks for the opportunity. I am in the USA

  • I never had a chance to smell Ormonde Jayne  Champaca and Strangelove NYC LostInFlowers , so no comments will be made for both.

    What's up with this:

bromance bottles of Creed Aventus  ?!?

Cafleurebon supposed to be the epitomy of high class reviews , and not some Basenotes thread where <90 IQ guys are arguing .

Creed White Flowers is pretty much everything you want in a winter white floral, but amped up to a stunning level.

White Flowers is a winter fragrance just like Virgin Island Water and Erolfa are ….Well it's NOT . Performance is horible in high heat. Winter…???

As for Ormonde Jayne fragrances -i had Tolu back in late 2014 -it was a gift from mom , but unfortunately for a short period of time , because my younger cousin broke the bottle – dropped it from the second floor of the house.Barely used like .. ~10ml of this gem…max before this happen. Her being 16 back then was the thing that saved fer from my fists.

As i said i don't know Ormonde Jayne  Champaca and Strangelove NYC LostInFlowers , but White Flowers is a fragrance i know quite well and i basically disagree with all Robert Herrmann said about it. Calling it a winter fragrance is like calling a t-shirt "a proper winter jacket" .

Thank you Europerfums for the draw.

  • I would love to try Champaca the most of all the florals Robert has described. I love rice so much–it's one of the only things I can still eat after giving up so much other food due to gluten issues. Basmati rice brings back wonderful memories of Asia.

But his review of LostinFlowers is quite a convincing sell. I will have to try that one, even though I have a hard time with white floral– I love them, but I don;t think they love me back. But I never stop trying.

    I live in the USA.

  • Now I’m dying to smell LostinFlowers! Most Creeds do nothing for me, but Champaca is wonderful: I have an OJ sample box. Like Robert, I was stuck in the PNW snow and I’m happy it’s gone! Thanks for the lovely words and generous draw! I live in the US.

  • Those are really nice choices especially Ormonde Jayne Champaca. I love the bamboo note.

    i live in USA

  • I wear white florals all year long, even in the coldest of months. I appreciate Robert's choices, especially Champaca and LostInFlowers with their spicy, peppery notes. It does give a spin to white florals that makes them less "tropical island vacation".

Thank you to Ormonde Jayne and CFB for this generous chance to win a bottle of Champaca. I live in the US.

  • I am now so curious about Strangelove's Lost In Flowers! It sounds wonderful. And thanks for reminding me about the Ormande Jayne Champaca. I tried it years ago and remember really liking it, but had forgotten about it in the deluge of perfume releases since then. Thanks for reminding me that I love white flowers, and can wear them in winter as well as summer. I live in the USA. Thanks for the draw and review.

  • The only Ormande Jayne I'm familiar with is Rose Gold which I aquired after Robert Hermann's review!  It's gorgeous, so I'm anxious to try Champaca too.  The LostinFlowers oil sounds amazing too!   Agree that winter is a wonderful time to get lost in a floral daydream of summer days.  These comments have been fun to read.  Thank you to Europerfumes for the genererous drawing!  In the US

  • What I thought about Roberts White Winter choices is that the choices are great. Ormonde Jayne Champaca being a ticket to Southeast Asia and the perfect Winter White Floral fragrance for dreary weather. Wow what a statement. I love the winter time as it time to bring out those fragrances that you can't wear in other season. I am in CA, USA.

  • Not familiar with these fragrances or the scent of Champaca. Sounds really nice and seems like it’ll give you a positive energy. Moghul garden sounds interesting and one can imagine what it was like. Like to get a chance to check it out. Thanks, U.S

  • I’m such a huge fan of Linda Pilkington for her "no reformulations" kind of policy .

I do own Frangipani Made to Measure in 50% concentation in custom bottle , and i feel like i own a bespoke perfume.Pure parfum versions they called Made to Measure.Unfortunately US customers can not get cream della cream of the brand….for now at least. It’s about time .Europerfumes and Ormonde Jayne – pls make it happen.

Thank you Europerfumes , Ormonde Jayne and CaFleurebon for this draw , and Robert for the nice reviews.
I do follow all of you on Instagram

  • I love it – "when heat and sun desperation sets in.."  indeed.  I have a weensy ml or two of OJ's Champaca and love it and savor it.  I'm also now keen to test out Strangelove after Robert's description of Lost in Flowers.  I'd be thrilled to win the draw, and thanks.  USA resident!

  • Thanks Robert, great review.  I'd love to be transported to a Moghul garden in the moonlight!!  My favorite rice is basmati.  I'd love to win this.  I havent' smelled any of these 3 fragrances.  Thanks for the chance.  USA.

  • Nice review. Violet leaf, green apple and narcissus must be a nice blend. Thank you for the chance .

  • Nice review. Violet leaf, green apple and narcissus must be a nice blend. I also like the fragrance name “champaca” really nice.  Thank you for the chance .

  • Never been to Mighul Gardens , but I do like the idea of me having, and smelling Ormonde Jayne Campaca – buttery tropical, a bit spicy and a green tea base. I can’t give my own troughs, because I’m not familiar with all 3 , but according to the description they are top quality white flowers fragrances for the colder months. Thx to all involved in this giveaway . USA

  • Great review by Robert! I have smelled 2 of the 3 of these and they are perfect winter while craving the warmer weather. My interested in Strangelove's Lost in Flowers peaked after reading this: "garnered me so many compliments I stopped counting. I was wearing the perfume oil rather than the edp, and one drop of this potent concoction surrounds you in a “heaven-scent” mist of gardenia, champaca, and lily of the valley." I want to be transported to a Moghul Garden, eating some jasmine rice, and sipping on some green tea. I have smelled Ormonde Jayne's Champaca and would love the opportunity to own a bottle. Thanks for the giveaway and I live in the US! 🙂
