Shay and Blue White Peaches Review (Julie Massé) + A Peach for All Seasons Draw

"A bite of fuzz and velvet skin,

The sweet, tart juice runs down my chin…" – "The Peach Lover's Guide" by Gail Gross

On this cold winter day, as dark clouds threaten to dump their loads of heavy wet snow on the Pacific Northwest, nothing sounds better than a taste of summer delight in the form of ripe, squishy, luscious peaches – and nothing entices like the juicy kiss of Shay and Blue's new fragrance, White Peaches.

During the late19th and early 20th centuries plant hybridizers, like the California "plant wizard" Luther Burbank, experimented extensively with the peach and her cousins, the almonds and plums. Burbank and his contemporaries were able to improve upon and create many novel (and sometimes strange) stone fruits, including new kinds of peaches, but it wasn't until over a hundred years later that the public really fell in love with the tastes and textures of the sweeter, less acidic white peach.

Today we enjoy many varieties of white peaches, some from America, other from Korea and Japan, but my favorite has to be the Stark Saturn Peach. The original variant was imported from China to America in the late 1860s. Eventually improved upon and made popular in the 1990s, the pale flesh of the Saturn has a unique, not quite crisp, firm texture. The taste and fragrance is bright, floral and fresh with nuances of sweet almond.

White Peaches Bouquet and Bottle I by Gail Gross ©

I adore eating peaches – and I love smelling like peaches too!  Perfumers have used Undecalacton (Adlehyde c14) and other aroma chemicals like Veloutone™ and Nectaryl ® to create the fruity, fleshy, oh so peachy notes that define and infuse a host of our most cherished fragrances  – Guerlain Mitsouko, M. Micallef Ananda Dolce and Viktoria Minya Hedonist to name but a few.  When I discovered that Shay and Blue, was offering a perfume called White Peaches I found myself salivating at the very mention of the name and wondering just how Shay and Blue creative director Dom De Vetta and perfumer Julie Massé of Mane would bring the multi-sensory experience of white peaches to life in perfume.

(l)Dom De Vetta and Julie Massé (r)

"There is something so unique in the delicate, aromatic peach that really captures the essence of summer." – Dom De Vetta. From the very first bite, Shay and Blue White Peaches promises a fragrance I will enjoy all year long. With the initial breath I recall tastes and textures of juicy, slightly crisp Saturn peaches, cooled by aromas of iced green tea and new-mown hay. The wet, fragrant chill quickly blossoms into classically rich, lusciously smooth peachy nectar that I find so addictive, nectar colored with hints of almonds, spices and budding narcissus. At the heart of Shay and Blue White Peaches I discover elderflower granita – a refreshing, melt-in-your-mouth dessert-ice, imbued with the sweet, grassy scent of elderflowers and enlivened by a kiss of lemon zest. White Peaches continues to evolve through the dry down, the velvety, ever-present peach nectar transformed, at last, by earthy woods and whispers of wintergreen distilled from the bark of the Silver Birch. Shay and Blue White Peaches is a perfume for all seasons, offering velvety warmth on cold, dreary winter days and promising a refreshing perfumed respite when summer finally comes again.

Notes: Soft peach, elderflower granita and silver birch wood.

Disclaimer:  would like to thank Dom De Vetta for my cherished bottle of Shay and Blue White Peaches. My opinions are my own.

  • What a great read, Gail. Thank you for history lesson on how growers developed different varieties of peaches. I am a big fan of white peaches <3

I liked the progression of the scent as Gail describes it, from cool and wet to velvety rich to cool wood again.

I haven't tried all of Shay and Blue's line, but I have tried Blood Orange and really enjoyed it.

    I live in the US.

  • I love how your article evokes the senses. Unfortunately I have developed BMS over the past couple of years where I am not able to eat fresh fruit but I have since learned that smelling fruit in fragrances can be nearly as pleasurable as eating it! It is hard to imagine a better way to welcome the coming spring and summer than biting into the flesh of a juicy white peach, letting it drip down your chin until it splats the ground beneath. Would be so fun to reproduce those memories by smelling this latest offering from S & B. My favorite from the house so far is English Cherry Blossom. Thanks for the generous giveaway. KY, USA

  • I too love peaches in any form! Whether it is the fruit or in perfumes. Reading your article I remembered that is a long time since I have not worn Mitsouko and I think I will give it another wear this week. With the description at the end of the article, I made somehow an idea about White Peaches, but nevertheless I think it would be a great in anyone’s collection for the warmer weather. I am in EU. Thanks!

  • I’m already looking forward to spring! White Peaches from Shay & Blue sounds delicious. I love the pictures within the article and the additional fragrances mentioned. I also love white peaches. USA

I’ve only actually got to sample one fragrance from the brand and it was Salt Caramel. Wowwy was that true to its name. A gourmand delight if there ever was one. Here in Canada, we have a local summer peach festival that lasts only about a week, where they serve this delicious handcrafted peach ice-cream. My mouth is watering just thinking about it… But besides the taste, what really stands out in my mind is the aroma of fresh peaches, ice-tea and the torrent of bees that follow you everywhere you go. Yay. Can’t seem to replicate the experience whenever I travel to the states.

So when Gail mentioned Saturn peaches, the refreshing nature of the composition in the mid, and melt-in-your mouth desserts, my mind went straight there. Very interested to find out what Saturn peaches smell like, and my hopes are the earthy woods are a harmonious addition, especially since my nose usually associates peaches with aquatics. Thank you to Shay and Blue! Canada.

  • After I read this I felt a deep desire for an iced White Peach tea! I think all of us feel this way. It sounds refreshing and delightful. I would love to try it. Thank you for the opportunity Shay and Blue! In the USA.

  • Peaches are one of the few fruits that I love in perfume. I like eating them too but have to peel them first. Peach skin/fuzz is like eating fur. I am very sick of winter and would love a reminder of warm summer days with a cooling, luscious peach perfume especially with added narcissus. USA.

  • Nice review. I love the name “White Peaches” and i’m intrigued by the notes list since it’s really basic and short 🙂 Thanks for the chance, i am in the EU.

Gail knows a lot about fruits, flowers, and plants. I should pay more attention to varieties of fruits at the super market. Gail mentions mitsouko which is often the first peach perfume that comes to my mind. However, Mitsouko is not all weather peach due to its richness. However, Gail describes White Peaches as an all-weather perfume. Thanks for draw. I am in US.

  • Thank-you Gail and Thanks Shay and Blue for the review and the lovely bottle. I’ve loved Nashwa and Watermelons I’m still wanting to try a few more of your creations namely White Peaches. Gail’s delish description of Saturn Peach with almond and elderflower with some zest sounds perfectly bright esp for a peach lover like myself! USA

  • VerbenaLuvvr says:

This scent is already on my must-have list without even having sampled, as I love all things peach–and I was sold when Saturn peach was evoked, but so few true peach scents out there and almost none with any longevity. I have confidence in Shay & Blue, as I own other fragrances from the brand, to properly represent the peach’s true aroma. My current favorite Shay & Blue is Dandelion Fig. I live in the US and thank you for this chance.

  • I like the idea of a peach fragrance that isn’t just light and fruity. A green fragrance with peaches sounds amazing. I love the scent of ripe peaches

  • OMG I fell in love with peach scents with Tommy Hilfiger Dreaming. I was so sad they discontinued it. But this perfume sounds so much better, it sounds more nuanced and sophisticated. If I don’t win the draw I’ll be searching this perfume out. I am so excited about this perfume! I am a registered reader in Saskatchewan Canada (where I am definitely looking forward to summery peaches!)

  • RobertNicolasB says:

I love that it can be worn most of the year. Peach and green note combo sounds very nice. Have only tried Sicilian Limes, but liked it a lot. Thanks for the opportunity! -USA

  • The smell of peaches makes me think of Summer. The combination of notes makes Shay &:Blue great for all year round. It’s fresh yet sophisticated. Definitely a Fragrance I would love to owe.

    Thank you for this opportunity.
    USA

  • Love Gail’s review, I had no idea there where so many varieties of peaches! I love to eat peaches and smell like a juicy peach, Gail’s review of this juicy fragrance was great and so thorough, a peach scent that smells like a juicy peach that was left in the snow, you know because of the wintergreen from the birch tree, is very intriguing to me, a nice bit of summer in the middle of winter! I live in the USA!

  • I love the review and description of white peaches especially this…’The taste and fragrance is bright, floral and fresh with nuances of sweet almond’. I also like that ‘ White Peaches is a perfume for all seasons, offering velvety warmth on cold, dreary winter days and promising a refreshing perfumed respite when summer finally comes again’.
I live in USA and don’t have a favorite for now because I’m not familiar with this brand.

  • Wow. This sounds wonderful. Here’s what appealed to me.

My favorite Shay & Blue is Belladonna.

  • This fragrance sounds like something that I would go head over heals over and something I want in my life. I love peaches, the smell of peaches, the look of peaches, the feeling of peaches and peach cobbler. A perfume for all season. Shay and Blue White Peaches sounds amazing! I live in CA, USA.

  • A peach fragrance for all seasons!!! I’m into that! I love peaches, haven’t had one since the summer. I am not familiar with the Stark Saturn Peach, I usually find the Red Haven where I live. The notes in this fragrance really sound amazing!! I love peach flavored green tea. My favorite of his line is the Salted Caramel. Thanks for the chance, I wasn’t away Shay and Blue had something new. USA.

  • I have not had opportunity to try any Shay and Blue fragrances but I am a real nut for peaches, both eating and smelling them…has to be one of my favorite scents in the natural world. I enjoyed Gail’s enthusiasm and her offering up some really interesting peach facts and how perfumers come up with scents based upon the smell of peaches. I am in the US.

Having lived in rural South Carolina for 35 years, I know the smell of peaches, and the particular scent and taste of white ones. I like the scent memories that I am sure this will evoke. I have never tried a Shay and Blue fragrance. I live in the US, in North Carolina.

  • Peach smell is addicting. Would love this for summer. My fave of the house is Sicilian Limes. US

  • I have never tried anything from Shay and Blue Fragrance, but many of them sounds wonderfully from the base of the notes. White Peaches sounds also fabulously. I would be very glad If I would be the lucky winner. Thank you for the chance. I live in the EU.

  • I have not experienced Shay and Blue but would love to! Peaches are a beautiful scent and tasty too! Thank you for the chance.. Love the descriptions of the scent. I live in the US.

  • doveskylark says:

Gail’s review reminded how much I like peaches. I loved reading about Luther Burbank and his hybrids. I wonder if I have ever tried the Stark Saturn peach. I am going to look for this next summer.
The elderflower and the lemon zest with the peach note sounds like divine mix.
i haven’t tried anything from Shay and Blue, but I would love to try Black Tulip.
    i live in the USA.

  • Shay and Blue sounds like a wonderful perfume house! I’ve never tried anything from their line. White Peaches sounds like the loveliest fragrance! It sounds breezy and carefree. I love the smell of peaches and the only line I’ve ever found that has a peach perfume is Bath & Body Works, and it’s long been discontinued.
    I live in the USA.

  • tuiu silver says:

The best part of Gail’s review was definitely the transition from the first juicy and delicious peach, to a beautiful and floral aspect of the fruit, still keeping it as the main note.
I really love fruity fragrances, and to find out that White Peaches has just the right approach that allows it to be weareable all year round, just makes me want to try it even more.
My favorite fragrance from the house is Salt Caramel.
I’m from US and I’d like to join the draw please.

  • Sounds wonderful perfume!!!Yes, I think same – aromatic peach is really captures the essence of summer. I like peach in Keiko Mecheri’s Peau de Peche.
    US

  • Love eating peaches both white and “regular” ones , but i have to say “white”peach” does not neseserly mean “sweat peach” . Never heard of “elderflower granita” before to be honest , but as a peach lover i have to find a place to eat it.
“juicy, slightly crisp Saturn peaches, cooled by aromas of iced green tea and new-mown hay … rich, lusciously smooth peachy nectar” I’m intrigued.
    Mouthwatering review 🙂
My personal Shay and Blue top 3:
    1.Nashwa Extract of Parfum
    2.Oud Alif Extract of Parfum
    3.Salt Caramel
Every fragrance lover knows Salt Caramel – masterpiece imo .Really unique fragrance , and at the same time compliment monster.Gets me compliments each and every time i’m wearing it. “What is this?” , “What are you wearing?” and so on…
Thank you Gail Gross for the review , and Cafleurebon and Shay and Blue for the opportunity.

  • Elizabeth T. says:

Peaches! Hay! Nectar! Narcissus! This sounds delicious. I love the mild, sweet flavor of white peaches. I’d love to smell the translation. Thank you for the review! I’ve never smelled anything from Shay & Blue unfortunately. I’m in the USA. Thank you!

  • For me, Gail’s review works both as a time machine and as a dream enhancer. It makes me go back to warm summers in Eastern Europe in the 1990s and the innocent happines of picking white peaches from my grandparents’ front garden directly from the window of my shady, cool, bibliotheque smelling room (and of throwing the pits back in the gard, imagining that a peach orchard would grow thanks to my grandious act). At the same time, although I have never tried elderflower granita, I can imagine myself having one, with my feet on the cold water of the ocean in the burning sun of August. Back to reality, I have never tried Shay & Blue, but I would love to. I live in Europe, The Netherlands. Thank you for the opportunity!

  • Dorian Fischer says:

Unfortunately I have not yet tried any fragrance of this house but this one sounds very interesting! Especially the peach note got me interested. Great article, hope to win! From Austria

  • Thank you Gail for this review. I never knew the varieties of peaches and never ate a white one. I like your writing very much because there’s always something I learn. I own salt and caramel from Shay and Blue
    USA

  • An iced peach fragrance? Sounds lovely! I really enjoy Gail’s writing style and really do love peaches – probably my favorite fruit. My favorite from Shay and Blue would be Salt Caramel. USA

  • I’m loving Gail;’s review as it says everything I love about peaches. I have been looking for a peach centric fragrance and this sounds like it is right up my alley. Yay! I love Shay & Blue’s Scarlet Lily and Blood Oranges. thanks for a great review and an awesome draw. I’m in the USA

  • I live where peaches thrive during summer months so thought I knew peaches – but this sounds like a whole different experience of them! “The wet, fragrant chill quickly blossoms into classically rich, lusciously smooth peachy nectar that I find so addictive, nectar colored with hints of almonds, spices and budding narcissus.” – how gorgeous! I have tried their masterpiece Salt & Caramel – so many of their fragrances are beckoning! Thank you for this generous drawing, in the US.

  • I like the scent of peaches a lot. Your description is really mouthwatering! This would be a good scent for late spring or cooler summer days. I never got to test Shay and Blue, but this or Salt caramel seems like something i would like a lot

  • Something to enjoy all year long? Yes please! I love the smell of peaches, so sign me up. Thanks!
    I’m in California.

  • Grandiflora says:

What appeals to me most about Shay and Blue White Peaches, based on Gail’s review, is the description of it being “a perfume for all seasons, offering velvety warmth on cold, dreary winter days and promising a refreshing perfumed respite when summer finally comes again”. My favorite Shay and Blue Fragrance is probably Suffolk Lavender. I’m in the US.

  • Moving to the country…going to eat a lot of peaches… Millions of peaches, peaches for me, millions of peaches, peaches for free . I presume I’m not the only one remembers this mid 90’s song… or maybe I am. Nice job Gail Gross with this review peachy nectar, hint of almonds and mild spices. Everybody knows Shay and Blue for their surreal for every gourmand lover creation called Salt Caramel. Watched a lot of YouTube reviews and bought it. Now I cannot live without it. This fragrance puts me in almost orgasmic states. Thx again for the quality review, and for the giveaway. USA most of the year, and Germany from time to time.

  • Lol to Gig84… I remember that song too! The Presidents of the United States of America! I love white peaches and I love fruit in perfume. So this review is particularly appealing to me. I’m not familiar with their line of fragrances but based on this review it does sound lovely. Thank you for sharing Mom!

  • Peaches in fragrances immediately conjure non-fond memories of my mom’s wine coolers and high school girls body spray. Nevertheless I love the smell and taste of peaches. So I’m interested in how close it gets to a real ripe white peach. Interestingly, I never heard of Shay and Blue. Checkout the website I’m interested in Watermelon and Dandelion Fig. Great giveaway-California

  • A wonderful review by Gail! I love peaches and White Peaches sounds divine as a fragrance. I love the history of peaches that Gail added to her piece. My favorites from this line are the Salted Caramel and Dandelion Fig. Thanks for the giveaway and I live in the US! 🙂

  • By some really odd coincidence eat a nice homemade juicy peach cobbler like an hour ago , i’m full … and now i’m reading this peach fragrance review ?!? Haha
Peach is my second favorite fruit , right after plum , so i’m all in for the peachy almondy nectar called “White Peaches” .
Own 2 Shay and Blue fragrances -by far the most famous one Salt Caramel , and the lovely for a nice autumn or spring evening walk Framboise Noire. Both fragrances are crowd pleasers – i always get at least one or two unsolicited compliments.By the way Framboise Noire is super underrated fragrance.
Back and forth between USA and Scotland (EU/UK) . 1 week in US-> 1 week in Scotland…and so on.

  • Thanks to everyone for the all the comments and compliments and for entering the draw for Shay & Blue White Peaches! Good luck to everyone and be sure to check CaFleureBon for the winner.

  • I’m not sure I’ve ever met a peach fragrance I didn’t like, going all the way back to my TBS days of Fuzzy Peach oil. Peach with some earthiness from hay and birch sounds delightful. My favorite Shay & Blue fragrance is Blood Oranges, and I’m in the US. Thanks for the drawing!
