Parfums de Marly Akaster Review + Under the Radar Rose Oud Draw

Rose Exude Alex C. Musgrave photo of rose for CaFleureBon©

Every niche house has a signature rose oud fragrance and Parfums de Marly Akaster composed in 2015 by Hamid Merati Kashani is one of the stand outs. Both Carlisle by Quentin Bisch and Parfums de Marly Akaster debuted in 2015 exclusively overseas but did not hit the USA stores until 2018. Parfums de Marly Akaster might not have received the attention that Carlisle did but it is one of Editor Sebastian Jara’s favorite “under the radar perfumes” for its use of two different roses and a gorgeous oud accord. What makes Parfums de Marly Akaster stand out is that there is a dryness to the Bulgarian and Taif roses in the perfume from aromatic geranium and cypress which adds depth and spicy cardamom adds luxurious flair.-Michelyn Camen, Editor-in-Chief

  • This sounds like the perfect oud/rose fragrance! I really enjoyed how Sebastian broke down the beautiful notes. My favorite from PDM would probably be Layton Exclusif. I’d love to experience this spicy woody rose fragrance. Thanks for the opportunity! Arkansas, USA

  • I love rose-oud frags but don’t have a fave PdM. I enjoyed hearing about his preview experience in Paris.

  • I find its tough to nail down rose/oud without seeming like its been overdone. Leave it to PDM to throw in their own flare. Perhaps the last step in the Herod/Layton/X trinity.
    Thanks!

  • middleagedandmixed says:

I enjoyed hearing Sebastian talk about how aromatic this particular oud/rose combo is compared to others. It sounds like it is mostly an oud fragrance, which I love, with spices thrown in along with patchouli followed by a sandalwood dry down. Sounds stunning. I do love rose oud perfumes and would love to try Akaster. I’ve tried Herod and Layton so far and enjoy them both.
    Cheers from Washington state!

  • tuiu silver says:

Sebastian did a incredible job as always, with this review.
My favorite part was his description on the scent transition, highlighting the aromatic facets of this beautiful creation from the house.
I’m a rose+oud combo lover, specially if it’s a more present oud and have aromatic or sweet accords to amp it up.
My favorite Parfums de Marly is a rose based fragrance to, but with a more sweet twist: Delina.
I would like to join the draw please. Thank you for the opportunity.

  • Jesus Pagan Rosario says:

I was a bit worried too try this as i’m not the biggest fan of rose fragrances, but hearing Sebastian explain the lack of syrupiness, is reassuring. I do love aromatic fragrances and the oud rose combo here sounds phenomenal. I’m a big fan of PdM, owning Layton Exclusif and Godolphin and will hopefully be trying this one soon!

  • I love this fragrance house. Sebastian gives great details about this fragrance Akaster. The oud & Rose combination sounds wonderful together. Layton and Delina I have smelled and are both great.
Thank you for having this giveaway.
    I’m from New York.

  • I haven’t tried any rose and oud combinations yet since I’ve always had a hard time “loving” rose fragrances. I think it’s about time to step out of my box and give it a try! Thanks for the review, Sebastian! From Virginia

  • This sounds gorgeous! I’ve yet to try any fragrances from this house so far. I know, I know, I am behind the times! Rose and oud together is tied with rose/patchouli for my all-time favorite rose accord. Sebastian mentions that this is more of a dry rose oud and I’m used to the more syrupy version of this blend so I’d really love to try this. From the notes I imagine it would be love at first sniff. Howdy from Atlanta, GA!

  • saadfragrance says:

It seems interesting with the dry rose and aromatic feeling. Enter me please from the usa heres to hoping i win

  • Sebastian’s description of Akaster sounds like a wonderful mix of rose and oud. I love geranium and praline, and am curious how it’s blended within this fragrance. I love Oajan and Carlisle from Parfums de Marly. THANKS for another fabulous draw! USA

  • I like that Sebastian describes this creation as an aromatic take on rose oud combo, which keeps me interested in sampling this one. I love this kind of combo and More than Words by Xerjoff is my favorite one. From Parfums de Marly I like a lot of offerings, but I own and love Layton and Habdan. Thank you for a giveaway! (Illinois)

  • I have smelled Akaster on paper, and it struck me as another Rose/Oud combo, but I had never given it a chance to develop on skin. I think Sebastian did a great job in pointing out the subtle nuances that this fragrance has to offer. I would love to check it out and see what it has to offer in a full wearing! I’d like to be entered in the giveaway please.

  • Just Add Light says:

Layton Exclusif is still my favourite PdM fragrance, but there are so many fantastic options from the brand, including its sweet brother Carlisle. Really enjoyed Sebastian’s description of the woody and spicy nature of the fragrance especially in the drydown because rose-ouds can get quite animalic in the mid on my skin. Spices tend to mask that a bit. Thankful that it’s a bit aromatic too because heavier ouds just ain’t ma thang. In fact, I remember reading quite a few reviews when it first came out and the reception was rather lukewarm, but I must say that Sebastian has raised my hopes once again. He’s always good for that. lol USA.

  • I am a Carlisle owner so I am already a fan of Parfums De Marly. I love a good Rose and Oud combo. I have Montale’s Black Oud which is a Rose and Oud fragrance. Sebastian always does such a good job with his reviews although in this case no mention of longevity, projection, or sillage. USA Ohio.

  • I’ve only smelled Layton from PdM. Own a couple of Oud Rose fragrances but I’d like to try this one, seems quite amazing. The way Sebastian described it makes intrigued me! From the US.

  • batandcamel says:

I like how in Sebastian describes notes in his reviews. You can always tell he has smelled a lot of fragrances by his ability to describe a fragrance. I have so many favorites from Parfums De Marly but the one I enjoy the most is Layton!.

  • He described it so well (as usual) I could almost smell it myself. It’s definitely something I’d want to try out.

  • yungcherrypops says:

Loved Sebastian’s review because as always, it was short, sweet, to the point, and very descriptive. He’s the best fragance reviewer on YouTube, bar none. I’m a big fan of rose and oud fragrances like Oud Ispahan, Oud Silk Mood, and Ex Idolo 33. Parfums de Marly is one of my favorite houses, and my favorites would have to be Layton, Oajan, and Herod. Alabama, USA. My Youtube username is polaroid caesar (Nathan Cherry).

  • I always love Sebastian’s reviews, because most every video if his, he educates/introduces fragrances that I was completely ignorant to,and sound absolutely amazing. Akaster is no exception.
As I mentioned under Sebastian’s video, according to the Akaster note breakdown, it sounds as though it could very well be a great all seasons, and versatile fragrance. The citrus , with 2 types of rose, oud, and a touch of praline sound like an amazing marriage of notes that I would definitely love to get my nose on. I love Parfums De Marly, and their fragrances always leave me nothing less than speechless. Something tells me that this fragrance would leave me just as intoxicated as the others from this phenomenal house.

  • Sebastian is always on point with his reviews! Great break down of the notes! I would love to win a bottle! I love the oud and rose combo. Hello from Atlanta!!!!!

  • Danny Terranova says:

Big fan of both Cafleurebon and smelling great. Sebastian is the only YouTube guy I watch and I first saw him here. I just bought Carlyle for myself and would love to own this rose oud with dry ness

  • Chuck Goodpaster says:

I love Layton, Herod, Carlisle, Godolphin. Akaster sounds really nice. Sebastian always introduces you to unique scents. Thank you!

  • fazalcheema says:

Its weird I had not heard about Akaster before even though it has been here for a while. In addition to two roses, it has geranium which often smells like green rose to me. It also has spicy and leathery elements. Thanks for the draw. I am in US.

  • I love how articulate sabastian is with his description of this fragrance. I’ve never tried any rose oud fragrances so I would love to try this one.
My favorite parfums de marly fragrance is carlile.

  • Smelling great always bringing the best content. Keep it up friend. Haven’t smelled oud yet but it seems to be in almost everything these days so, it must be good haha.

  • I tried Carlisle for the first time today. The third Parfums de Marly I have tried. I have never tried one with Oud and rose but they always seem to do a great job.

  • Loved the comparison between Carlisle and Akaster. Specially since building up a fragrance collection is so pricey, having a detailed description of the notes is very useful

  • I hadn’t heard of Akaster prior to Sebastiana video so I really liked learning of a new fragrance from my soon to be favorite fragrance brand. Love how informative he was with the notes as well as describing the fragrance. Great video!

  • abdel sarkis says:

Sebastian have the best content. Herod it’s my favorite. I love roses and I’m very curious about this fragrance.

  • Sebastian’s reviews are always thoroughly in depth; he really gets to the heart and beauty of each and every fragrance he reviews. He’s my go to when I want a truthful review with out too much hyperbole unlike most other reviewers. As a male, I’ve forever been on the search for a rose themed fragrance that issm masculine plus I’m a die hard oud lover! Parfums de Marly is one of my favourite frag houses due to the high quality of their juice….

In the last 3 years I have sampled most of Marly’s masculine scents, Herod being my favourite! Akaster is THE one I have yet to try. I’d love a bottle. Great giveaway Cafleurebon! Merci from Phoenix

  • I like how Sebastian mentions lesser known fragrances. Akaster has been on my radar for some time, but this is the first time I think that it has been reviewed more in depth. Oud/rose fragrances are my favorite, Mancera Black to Black and Oud Ispahan are ones that I love. This sounds like another unique take on this beloved combination. Spicy is my kind of thing! Thanks so much for another generous giveaway! I’m in Oregon, US.

  • scentastic27 says:

Sebastian is always very professional and eloquent on his reviews, my fav parfums de marly is galloway and i would love to try Carlisle. Rhx for the giveaway

  • I always love Sebastians descriptions of fragrances and this review was no exception. I never tried a rose + oud combo but want to try this one a lot! I sampled Pegasus and liked it and having a full bottle of one of their perfumes would be amazing.

  • I absolutely love PDM and think their fragrances are both unique but also incredibly crowd pleasing. I’d love to check out their take on rose and oud because, like the review says, there is a lot going on but I really think pdm could made it unique!

  • Great review from Sebastian as always. I’ve tried 80% from the Parfums de Marly line, and Akaster is one that i’ve missed. After watching the review, i’m really curios about it since i do like rose/oud combo fragrances. My favourite from this house would be the underrated Habdan. Thanks for the chance, Oakland USA.

  • I enjoy how Sebastian describes the notes in Akaster and how each note is perfectly blended. He has a unique way of making you feel that this is a fragrance for you to try out. I have a few fragrances from Pafums de Marly that I really enjoy and I’m hoping I would get a chance to also try this one.

  • PdM is quickly becoming one of my favorite niche houses. I like Herod, Pegasus and Layton Exclusif from the house a lot. I would love to get my nose on how they interpret rose/oud scent and combine with their unique style !

  • I really like his review style. Very detailed yet concise. Also, explaining how each note works with each other was very interesting. He made me buy Layton and Carlisle and both of them are one of my top fragrances. Keep it up!

  • I would love to try this, especially as Sebastian mentions it is not too syrupy, and I bet PDM do it well. I do not have a fav PDM scent, but perhaps this would be it. Thanks for the generous draw and the great reviews! In the us.

  • I loved Sebastian reviewing a Parfums de Marly perfume I haven’t gotten my nose on. Sounds like a good perfume. I love harod so definitely need to get my nose on it soon.

  • I enjoyed Sebastian’s review!
    Nice description!
I like rose-oud combination, and hope this one is beautiful, but have your own face, singularity!
    US

  • Jonathan Pierce says:

I never considered a rose fragrance till recently and actually loved it. I am a big fan of sebastian and have purchased a few of his recommendations. This sounds right up my alley as I haven’t got my nose on this fragrance but haven’t smelled a bad Parfums de Marly yet. Thank you!

  • Ordered a sample of this and was COMPLETELY BLOWN AWAY by how incredible this fragrance is! This is my favorite PDM so far! I enjoy Sebastian’s fragrance reviews and fragrance lists. He goes into incredible detail to describe the bouquet, which demonstrates how knowledgeable, passionate and fond of perfumery he really is. I love how this fragrance starts fresh/citrussy and takes a different direction towards the mid and dry down which Sebastian picks up on. Also, I get a Middle Eastern feel from this fragrance overall and wonder how come this was not included in their Middle Eastern collection (with Oajan, Habdan etc…)?

  • Love Sebastian’s review. Really nice hearing about Akaster. I’m a huge Parfums de Marly fan and have been blown away by every one I have tried so far. My favorites are Herod, Oajan and Athalia. Excited to see Oarfums de Marly’s take on the Rose/Oud combo.

  • doveskylark says:

I’ve only recently been enjoying rose fragrances, so this sounds wonderful. Most of the roses I have tried thus far have been jammy, so a dry one intrigues me. i also like the idea of an oudh combination, and then some saffron notes.
I have tried Herod from this house, so I know this will be a high-quality perfume.
    I live in the USA.

  • Akaster has been mostly under the radar for me as well. Rose/Oud is one of the few famous combination of notes in perfumery that I haven’t quite dipped my toes into, despite the fact I enjoy each note separately, From PDM, my favorite is Herod. The sweet tobacco fragrance is playful and elegant without being to in your face. Most of their offerings are high quality. Thanks for throwing this little giveaway. Great Review Seb and cheers from CT.

  • I love that Sebastian is reviewing a lesser known fragrance and would love a chance to try it Akaster!

  • Sebastian always provides a thorough review of all facets of a fragrance’s wearability. Yet another PdM fragrance to add to the want list. They do fabulous work.

  • Sebastian reciew was short and thorough. The only perfume from PMD that I liked is layton exclusif.

  • Daniel17146 says:

I am a new subscriber to Sebastion’s channel. I love watching his reviews. Sebastion makes me want to purchase every bottle he reviews due to his passion about fragrances. Like , Carlisle, I really want to experience Akaster. Sebastian is right when he says rose and oud make a beautiful combination. I look forward to watching more of Sebastian’s reviews and hopefully I can win a nice bottle of PDM Akaster!

  • I have not tried Akaster but after listening to Sebastian, I really want to! Rose and oud is a beautiful combination and it is interesting how each house does it differently. I love Herod and Delinia. Thank you for the chance to win. I live in the US.

  • Always love Sebastian’s fragrance reviews. This review is no exception. I like his attention to detail when he shares his experience with the fragrance and most if not all the fragrances I have tried based on his recommendations have been a hit with me. Rose Oud combo is something I enjoy and I do own couple of other fragrances with similar combo. But being the owner of Herod, Layton and Carlisle I’m aware of the quality of PDM scents. I would surely love to try AKASTER.

  • always appreciate Sebastian’s reviews for the detailed info he passes along in a conversational style! I do enjoy Rose/Oud/Patchouli/Geranium – you are singing my song! Don’t have easy access to the house of Marly but have tried Delina & very much enjoyed it! Love the timeless yet offbeat style of the names and the bottles – would really like to experience more of Parfums de Marly. Thank you for the generous drawing! In USA

  • I always like to watch Sebastian’s reviews.
He said Akaste is aromatic orinetal (oud-rose) perfume. Sounds very beautiful. There are some woody notes and citusy freshness.
    I like Layton, Herod.
    USA

  • Mohammed Balsharaf says:

Yes can’t wait to try this one. I already like so many fragrances from this house such as Herod Layton both versions, Godolphin also. I really enjoyed Sebastian’s video it was brief and informative. I have a couple of oud rose combo perfumes but Tom Ford NdN is on the top of the list. Hopefully I can win this bottle n try Akaster

  • Thanks for another great review, Sebastian! I like your description of this fragrance as an aromatic rose and oud combination. I am partial to rose scents but I haven’t delved much into the rose-oud scents. I’d love to see an article on this in Cafleurebon or a video from Sebastian. My favorite PDM is Delina. Thanks for this opportunity. – CA, USA

  • Sounds like a great rose and Oud fragrance. Don’t hear much about Akaster. Not much experience with the House of PDM for me. Many love them though. Thank you cafleurebon and Sebastian. U.S

  • Chris Garner says:

I love Parfums de Marly’s Herod. This one sounds really nice from Sebastian’s review. I like the way he breaks down the notes, but tells you which ones you’ll really notice.

  • Sebastian always has great reviews. They are specific and really give you a sense of the fragrance. I have never sampled anything from this house and I don’t have a favorite rose oud perfume. Thanks you all for the draw and as always, a great review. I’m in the USA

  • Great review. I have never had a rose/oud fragrance so I would love to try it. Love all of Sebastian’s reviews

  • Sebastian’s videos are so great. He really covers all of the bases – I’m intrigued by the African Geranium and praline, and love a base of sandalwood. I have never tried anything from this house! I don’t have a lot of experience with rose and oud fragrances, the only one I own is Yves Rocher Rose Oud which I picked up last summer during a trip to Paris.

I am in Pennsylvania, USA. (Marilee K on YT). Thank you!

  • I have bought quite a few fragrances off of Sebastian’s descriptive video’s. I would love to experience another!

  • Akaster sounds beyond great- mr Jara did a amazing job with this review. Rose and Oud is really a match made in Heaven. Aromatic with two kind of roses, oud , big blast of patchouli, leather and praline- delicious. As for Parfums de Marly I am proud of owning Oajan – on my second bottle. Long time Ambre Narguile user , but Oajan is at least a class above. I do not have experience with others from the brand unfortunately. My favorite rose and oud fragrance is called Noir de Noir by Tom Ford. Thank you very much for the opportunity. Richmond Virginia

  • I love rose as a note but I have yet to dabble in rose+oud scents and Sebastian really sold me on the description of this one!

  • michaelprince83 says:

I really enjoyed Sebastian’s review on Parfums De Marly Akaster. I am also a big fan of the Rose/Oud combo that this fragrance has. This is definitely one of the least popular fragrances of the Parfums De Marly house. Parfums De Marly puts out some excellent fragrances for I would love the opportunity to try this one out. Thank you for the giveaway opportunity. I live in Ohio, USA.

  • I love most ouds and some roses. The accompanying notes of Akaster seem to be a bit of unique combination. Good to know this is more of a dry rose as I prefer that. Herod is the only house fragrance I experienced and it’s very nice. US

  • RaePerfumeSoul says:

I like that Sebastian covers under the radar perfumes too and not only the most talked about ones.

I also enjoy his reviews as it shows his passion for the perfumes and everything about them.

    I am in SEATTLE, US.

I would love to win this.

  • Sebastian, you are the best at Vlogging no doubt. I’m not usually a rose girl but I love rose with oud. I love your descriptions and a match made in heaven sounds perfect.

  • I love rose|oud fragrances and I’m definitely attracted to similar scents as Sebastian. He’s described this with the two roses and geranium taking this in a not so sweet direction which sounds nice I’d love to try I’ve not been fortunate enough to try any yet. I’m hoping to USA

  • I love all of Sebastian’s reviews and have been a longtime subscriber for ages. The fact that he states this release from PdM is not a syrupy rose has my attention and my nose is eager to smell what sounds like a wonderful rose/oud combination. USA.

  • Sebastián described really well all the fragance notes i really enjoy his vídeos rose and oud sounds peefect!!

  • Ivan.napoleon says:

I like the way Sebastian describes the progression of the fragrance, which sounds very appealing. I like the idea of a dry rose fragrance balanced with other types of notes. I am in the US.

  • RobertNicolasB says:

I own and love Herod and Layton Exclusif. Love Sebastian’s analysis and the addition of the geranium sounds amazing. Would love to win. USA.

  • I always look forward to watching Sebastian’s reviews because I always learn something new at the end. He lists and describes the notes in detail. I do love I love rose-oud fragrances.
    I live in California.

  • I own two PDM’s so far. Layton and Oajan. I love them both and am interested in more PDM fragrances. Sebastian was one of the Youtube reviewers I looked at to get his opinion on Oajan before I bought it. I almost always look for a review of his before I buy a fragrance.

  • I like that Sebastian was descriptive of the notes. The fragrance sounds like it sort of has some similarities to Black Aoud, with the rose, oud, and patchouli.
I love rose oud combos. I have quite a few of them at home.

Im in IL in the US. thanks for the draw

  • Grandiflora says:

What I enjoyed most about Sebastian’s YouTube review of Parfums de Marly Akaster was his description of it being an “aeromatic experience”, which I can understand with all of those ingredients! I do like rose oud perfumes, but I don’t have a favorite Parfums de Marly. I haven’t tried any yet! I’m in the U.S.

  • Combination of bulgarian and taif roses, geranium and cypress, patch with the right amount of praline – i’m intrigued. I presume i’ll love the smell too-sounds super good.
I need to sample Akaster asap , because i do love Parfums de Marly as a brand .
Love my bottle of Delina .. i mean “regular” Delina – haven’t tried Exclusif yet.I also really like Oajan .
My favorite rose and oud fragrance at this moment is called The Night Frederic Malle , but the price is outrageous.
Tnx for the generous giveaway , and Sebastian for his spontaneous review.
    Cheers from VA

  • Great review by Sebastian! I love the combination of oud and rose, especially taif rose. I loved that Sebastian said this is an aromatic fragrance. My favorite PDM has to be Delina. Thanks for the draw and I live in the US! 🙂

  • I do like the background and the idea behind Akaster with the rose , oud , patchouli and praline too.Intersting description by one of the best,if not the best Youtube reviewer .
My favorite Parfums de Marly fragrance is Habdan – it’s unreal how good it is…to me at least.I’ll never get rid of it …no way.One of my all time favorite fragrances.I also love Oajan , but i need a new bottle because my girlfrind loves it too.
I do like all kind of rose combo’s , and not just rose and oud …
I follow all @cafleurebon,@quentinbischperfumer and @parfumsdemarly on Instagram , and both accounts of Sebasian on IG.
    Thank you for the draw.

  • I always love Sebastian reviews as he gives great details of this fragrance, I do like the rose combo idea of the scent. I believe Parfums de Marly Layton is my favorite so far from the line. I live in CA, USA.

  • I was lucky enough to get small decants of both Carlisle and Akaster and I love them both. But I definitely am more partial to Akaster because I love rose oud fragrances. After watching Sebastian’s review, I realize now why I love it so much!!
    I live in Pennsylvania
