Providence Perfume Co Tabac Citron (Charna Ethier) 2009 + Beat the Heat and Smell Divine Draw

Let’s face it: it’s only early July and many parts of Europe, the U.S and other locations on the planet have been Hotter Than Hell. It feels like late August too soon; tempers flare, patience diminishes exponentially (especially if you keep a hectic work schedule) and it’s challenging to keep your cool. Perfumer Charna Ethier of Providence Perfume Co provides a cornucopia of solutions. Here’s one of my absolute favorites: Tabac Citron. Zesty, floral/herbal, coumarinic, dreamily woody: it doesn’t take an Einstein to comprehend why this perfume is among Charna’s best-loved fragrances. Before you bristle (as I do, when folk use Popularity As a Motivation For Anything) at this contention, you’ve got to smell it for yourselves. Nothing available even vaguely resembles it; it’s one of the loveliest non-prescription anti-depressants on the market.

Here’s why…

Providence Perfume Co Tabac Citron opens with a crown of luscious citrus notes: tangy, mouthwatering, never approaching the sour/bitter spectrum. Freshly squeezed, newly zested – it’s irresistible, like kicking off your shoes and dipping your toes in a public fountain on a scorching day when you’re supposed to be doing something far more adult and responsible. If you love citron, lemon, or pink grapefruit the day is yours, and even if you normally wouldn’t – this is the scent that might just change your mind.

Charna’s choice of rosewood here is intuitive and astute (and bridges top and heart): its lightly spicy, delicately woody lemony/linalool-intense facets presage lavender and showcase her to best advantage. What ensues is round, voluptuous. Provençal lavender turns her comely visage in our direction and exhibits whispering herbalcy and a tender floral profile garlanded with rose (the Perfect Playmate) and buttery ylang ylang (approximately 9% linalool!). The effect is beneficent and soul-soothing (the linalool component being a documented therapeutic one).Tabac Citron’s sense of bien-être comes full circle in its base: luxe velvety sandalwood couples with haylike blond tobacco. We are swathed in pure creature comfort seasoned with sylvan jammy black spruce for companionship. This perfume takes a balsamic turn in the drydown – a quality I personally cherish in fragrance. Besides its obvious botanical charms, Providence Perfume Co Tabac Citron possesses excellent longevity and wears like a lingering aromatic endearment fluttering about you on butterfly wings. • Nice review, Tabac Citron seems to be a perfect potion to lift the mood. I’m all about the confidence and change of state of mind given by perfume. It drives my choices of fragrances and I seek those that evoke something distinct and fairly different from one another. Adept of constructions around strong flowers like tubéreuse I am really excited about expanding my horizons and exploring the freshness of agrums. I live in France, thanks for the draw.

I Liv in the desert and you need something to be cool, the scent sounds like a great idea to wear in the intense heat but cool nights.

  • Ohhh my, those notes are fire. Grapefruit and tobacco sounds damn good.
I would really love to get a sniff of this juice. Thanks for the chance, USA Oakland.

  • lovely review, and I love lemony scents, and this sounds great for summer. i have pined for some scents from the website, but haven’t purchased any yet, so i would love to have a chance to smell this! thank you for the draw – in the US.

The combination of fresh cool citrus and tobacco sounds like the perfect tonic for our upcoming summer. Ida’s review is so descriptive, I can almost smell it already. Thank you for the generous giveaway! I live in Australia.

Loving the hot weather where I sit on the bottom shelf of my refrigerator. (Ha, not true!) Citrus and I get along really well together, but in the past, our relationship has been short-lived. Citrus just up and leaves me in the dust without even so much as a farewell to thee! I would be looking for a longer relationship and Tabac Citron might be the ticket with those supporting notes. This sounds really good, especially with Charna’s choice of Rosewood, which I love.
I am hoping to be the lucky recipient of a new hot weather relationship. Wonderful artwork here. Thank you for the opportunity! Waving from California!

  • Well, I really need this fragrance. I’m so ready for some soul soothing. All of the notes are my faves, especially pink grapefruit and tobacco.I see that I agree with Alen, LOL. Thanks for the draw, USA.

  • Great review, Ida! I love how descriptive it was, and can almost imagine the scent of Tabac Citron just by reading it. What appeals most to me is the notes of the fragrance. It sounds like a truly amazing scent! Thank you for the draw, I’m located in the USA.

Thank you, Ida, for a great article. Living in the Southern Region of the US, it stays hot most of the years having a fragrance with lemon zest, pink grapefruit and tobacco, sandalwood. That sounds amazing, thank you Charna Ethier of Providence Perfume Co. Live in the USA

  • I love the smell of fresh lemony scents. Ida’s review plays up how the linanool in the other components help sustain the lemon. I live in the US.

  • fazalcheema says:

This is interesting, combining two quite contrasting notes. in addition, there are also floral notes such as rose. looks like it is suitable for all weathers. Thanks for draw. i am in US

I look forward to reading Ida’s review and her eloquent prose! Yes, it has been extremely warm here on the east coast and this fragrance is exactly what I need to soothe my soul and melt my heart. This sounds like a true olfactory experience. With these notes, I would love to curl up in a hammock with a great book. This fragrance sounds like nothing I have in my collection and I would love to win it. Thanks for the draw and I live in the US! 🙂

  • My Mood needs enhancing! I love Rose Boheme from Charna. Would love to win a bottle of this. I haven’t tried it. Thank you for the try. It’s hot here and I need to Beat the Heat! I live in the US.

  • I love citrus scents! This sounds so unusual, the combination of tobacco and citrus and based on Ida’s description, the perfect antidote to temperatures nearing 100 degrees. I’m in the US, thank you for the draw.

It sounds so juicy and refreshing. I love the smell of citron. I think the dry, hay like tobacco would be great in warmer weather too. I’m in the US. Thanks

  • FearsMice says:

From childhood on, I loved resting and refreshing my feet on hot summer days in a public fountain! However, as a “responsible adult” I haven’t done this in many years. I would love to have Tabac Citron help me relive that experience! I’m in the USA; thanks.

  • So many different layers to this fragrance! I love how it starts off zesty and fresh, but then dries down to a softer, woody scent. It really sounds beautiful.
    I live in the U.S.

  • Why, the way you present the heart accord is not something one can easily ignore.
rosewood,m lavender, rose and ylang ylang sound perfect.

  • The Art!!!
Before even reading I scrolled through just for the visuals. This is exactly how I’ve been feeling! And a lot of people I’m guessing.

Any scent that feels like stopping to dip your toes in a fountain on a hot day is one I want to try! Tabac Citron sounds like just the thing to lift spirits and cool overheated heads.

This whole review was tender and poetic, so lyrical I knew who the author was before I read it. Thank you Ida! especially for sentences like: “We are swathed in pure creature comfort seasoned with sylvan jammy black spruce for companionship.” I mean whoa. I didn’t know about Linalool being therapeutic but it makes sense. And I like the hay tobacco/woods base too.

  • Yes, love the art included in this review! Tabac Citron sounds like the perfect antidote to a dragging week… this Friday feels like a Tuesday to me, y’all! I can almost smell the lemon mentioned in the painting and the citron extolled in the review, but it’s the mention of “sylvan jammy black spruce” that really piqued my interest. I know that some folks recoil from anything that might remind them of pine-sol, but frankly, I can’t get enough of a high quality sappy, jammy, or balsamic evergreen note. I am in the US, thanks for the draw!

  • doveskylark says:

i just love the idea of a perfume anti-depressant. Well, I think of all my perfumes as mood elevators, and Tabac Citron sounds especially potent. I love the notes that Ida described. This sounds like the perfect fragrance to pack on trips to hot climates.

  • perfumelover67 says:

Based on Ida’s review Tabac Citron sounds like the perfect antidote for very hot summer days when an uplifting, refreshing fragrance is so much needed. The notes are fantastic! I live in the USA. Thanks for the draw.

  • Sounds like a lovely blend (and I love citrus); I’d wear it AND curl up in a hammock with a good book, on these HOT summer days. I’ve begun to venture into natural perfumery and read somewhere that rosewood is endangered? USA – thanks for the draw!

  • Elizabeth T. says:

I love the art chosen for this! It perfectly captures the hazy, too-bright heat of summer. Citrus is about all I wear in the heat of summer, but I haven’t tried this one yet. It sounds beautiful! I don’t think I could go wrong with “a crown of luscious citrus notes.” Just thinking about it makes me feel refreshed. Thank you for the great review and generous draw! I’m in the USA.

  • I love citrusy perfumes, but sometimes I find their very simple, so I hope this perfume with its “balsamuc” and “botanical” side will be perfect for me.
Thank you Ida for this interesting review.

“If you can’t curl up in a soft hammock under the shady boughs with a good book, this is the next best thing.” I love citrus and this sounds like a lovely and refreshing pefume for this horribly hot weather. Thanks for the draw. I’m in the USA

  • Thank you Ida for this interesting review.
    This perfume sounds very interesting.
Is this perfume suits summer hot days?

  • bumbuliuki says:

Thank you Ida for a wonderful article and a perfect choice of art from Michelyn
This summer has been quite unforgiving and a citron based perfume like Tabac Citron would be the perfect antidote.
I appreciate citrus perfumes that are zesty instead of sour/bitter. Tabac Citron seems the perfect match.
    Thank you for the draw.
    I’m in the EU .

  • WaltherP99 says:

Thank you for this draw , and a nice review by Ida , but i have to disagree with 2 of her statements.I’ve sampled most from the brand – they do have quite a few jems, so i’m familiar with Tabac Citron too. What i disagree with:
1.I don’t get any tobacco , or hey on my skin-from the start till’ the end.
2.Excellent longevity??? I don’t get anything close to this.I don’t know Ida’s perception of “excellent longevity” but to me 4-4.5 hr’s of longeviry is average.
I do love the smell of Tabac Citron , just like i love Cocoa Tuberose , Osmanthus Oolong , Samarinda , Provanilla and a few more.
    Cheers from VA

  • Here’s what drew me in from Ida’s review: “Tabac Citron…wears like a lingering aromatic endearment fluttering about you on butterfly wings.” I’ve never tried any fragrances from this line, but have been interested in Tabac Citron as well as Cocoa Tuberose. Thanks for the chance! I’m in NC, USA.
