Floris London 1927 ~ New Perfume Review + British Jazz Age Draw

When you hear the word flapper, do you immediately think of Americans such as Louise Brooks or Zelda Fitzgerald. Actually the term is British and was coined in 1920s to describe the “bright young things” that wore short dresses and cropped their hair.

Gentlemen shaved their beards, looked like dandys dancing the night away in speakeasys. This era inspired Floris London 1927, the venerable house’s newest scent in their Fragrance Journals that evokes a particular year in British history.

Floris London is referenced by Cecil Beaton, the famous English fashion, portrait and war photographer, diarist, painter, interior designer and an Oscar–winning stage and costume designer for films and the theatre during that era. Floris London was considered so luxe that Cecil Beaton mentioned the brand in the above quote “Luxury is not just fine cloth and precious stone, even more it is thoughtfulness. Sharpened pencils next to the bed… on the rim of the bath Floris scents…” Floris London 1927 is a sparkling floral citrus fragrance that brings  to mind the elegance, opulence and glamour of the twenties. ‘1927’ opens with shimmering aldehydes that explode with a burst of zesty bergamot and hints of mandarin. In the floral heart we find violet (which is referred to in Beaton’s quote), ylang ylang, narcissus with mimosa, all adding depth and complexity. Base notes of musk, amber, patchouli and vanilla temper the floralcy, which makes this a perfect scent for guys and gals.

    Sanctions videos are always informative, I’m not familiar with Floris fragrances but I’d love to get my nose on them….i think 1973 would be an interesting year to influence a fragrance…..

    This perfume sounds very interesting – fresh bergamot and mandarin, than clean, nice musky-florale perfume.
    I would like to see 1945 Victory Day represented in perfume.

    Hope I win this bottle of 1927 by Floris. Sebastian gave a desirous description of this fragrance and I already have a soft spot for the Art Deco period and Floris as I have No. 89, Santal, 1976 and Elite. Getting 1927 may urge me into acquiring the rest of the series. Thanking you in advance.

    Another great review from sebastian! I haven’t tried anything from Floris yet but I hear so many wonderful things about their fragrances. I do really love how their fragrances are inspired by specific periods in time I love when fragrances have a inspiration behind them and they try to capture a specific mood or place. I will definitely be sampling something from this house in the near future. Keep up the good work! I am in the USA in Az.

    I think this perfume is easy wearable-fresh musky perfume.
    I have never tried Floris, but have read many reviews, especially I’m interested in Honey Oud.

    I believe 1970 will be a very interesting year to remember in a fragrance, as this was the change of the trends and a more liberal attitude was shown by the young. The musk note is my favorite. Thank you in advance. Miami, Florida, USA

    I enjoyed Sebastian’s review of Floris 1927 because of his complete description of the fragrance’s note profile as well as the scent description as it progresses from the opening to the dry down. It gave me a good feel about what to expect from it.

    I like that it is uplifting. I didn’t realize that there was a series of different years from Floris. I’m not too familiar with this line, but recently went to Floris London in Charleston SC and bought the sampler pack. So far I am liking Cefiro which is another citrus floral and Bergamotto Di Positano the best. I am going to try the 1927 next after watching Sebastian’s review. It’s not often that I have a sample of something that I watch on Sebastian’s channel. Thanks for the review. US.

    Sebastian says London 1927 has been inspired by the roaring 20s. It has notes like vanilla that were common in classic perfumes. While it has uplifting elements, Sebastian finds the influence of classic perfumes in London 1927. I have few Floris perfumes in my collection. An era I would like to serve as inspiration is 70s-80s London. I am in US.

    Excellent review by Sebastian! I have heard of Floris before as I believe they are the perfumer of the Royal Family. 1927 is special to me because that is when by grandmother had her first child. This fragrance sounds divine. I would like to see a 2000 inspired fragrance. Thanks for the draw and I live in the US! 🙂

    Sebastian doesn’t spare any details in his reviews. I usually come away with at least some idea as to the character of the fragrance. Never been disappointed with a Floris. JF and Santal are magnificent .

    Excellent review by Sebastian and loved his description. I didn’t know about Floris fragrance journals either. I thought flappers were American so I am glad I read the introduction too. 1812 would be great since it was the war. I own bergamotto di Positano which is really good. Would love to get my nose on floris 1927

    I have tried actually 0 Floris scents, but a year I would be intrigued to see represented is 1945 with the end of WWII.

    I like florals and classic, old-school scents. This sounds like it captures the clean and softer styles, and the heady, stronger styles, of the 20’s in one bottle.
    I have a couple of Floris decants which I like, but I can’t remember the names of them off hand.
    If I was gonna pick an era, I’d also pick the 20’s. But I’d go in a speakeasy direction. Cocktails and smoke.

    I love Sebastians reviews they are always thorough and he talked about tge fizziness of the citrus in this citrus floral fragrance! He really enjoyed Floris 1927 and his reviews and the editors at Cafleurebon are always spot on thats why I know I have to try this fragrance one day! A fizzy citrus floral and the fun an elegance of the 20’s is right up my alley! I live in the USA.

    Good Morning I would love to acquire the 1927 Fragrance from Floris London. I am an huge fan of Sebastian and his work of Smelling Great Fragrances, I loved the way Sebastian explained the inspiration behind the fragrance ,The notes ,the emotions the fragrance would evoke for the wearer, how the notes contrasted with each other to the ideal times and season it would be appropriate for. I am an big Fan of the Brand Floris London I love the elegance And timelessness of the brand. I currently own 71/72, Islay & Honey oud. It may sound Cliche but I would choose the same year of 1970!due to to the sensual Glamour, coolness and freedom associated with the 70’s or maybe the the year of the 1920’s prohibition / Harlem Renaissance play off that theme maybe an Boozy, TobaccoLeather scent wih accords of Ginger to the replicate the energy: I would love to acquire the 1927 Fragrance I feel like I’m an Stylish , Debonair but approachable person and I feel loved ke his fragrance would complement this.

    I love the Cecil Beaton quote! I have always wanted to try Floris’ Geranium Rose, which was rumored to be a favorite of Marilyn Monroe’s. Sebastian’s videos always tempt me. I would like to see a fragrance that pays homage to 1939, the year many consider to be the greatest in film history.

    The only fragrance I’ve tried by Floris is Honey Oud but that was a big hit with me and I’ve wanted to try more. I enjoyed Sebastian’s review as I always do, particularly his description of the fizzy bright opening here. I am in the U.S. Thank you!
