Creative Director Clara Malloy of Memo Paris has enjoyed a prolific and successful relationship with defacto in house perfumer Aliénor Maissenet, (now of Symrise). Memo's leitmotif is sense of place, memories of journeys; in fact the name Memo comes from the word memories. The first Marfa was inspired by Clara Malloy’ of Memo Paris trip to Marfa, Texas, a town in the high desert. Sr. Contributor Sebastian Jara is a big fan, and it changed his mind that tuberose couldn’t be worn easily by men. He reviewed it here.
The PRADA "store" installation by Elmgreen and Dragset in Marfa Texas (Photo by Grey Malin)
One of my favorite photos is a PRADA store installation standing like a mirage in the middle of a desolate strip of road just off Highway 90. While I am not sure if the cowboy is just gawking or thinking of buying Prada boots, I think he would smell great wafting Memo Paris Marfa Spices. Tuberose is a big note that had a big moment last year, and even the most macho of men now understand that the flower known as “The Queen of The Night”, is fit for a king as well. With notes of agave and cardamom, the desert beckons.
