4160Tuesdays White Queen X ÇaFleureBon (Sarah McCartney) 2018~ New Perfume Review + Down the Rabbit Hole I Go Draw

To commemorate the recent eighth anniversary of the Çafleurebon website, Editor-In-Chief Michelyn Camen and British perfumer Sarah McCartney of 4160Tuesdays decided to collaborate on a perfume that not only included an amalgam of some of their favorite notes, but was representative of strength and fortitude, all done with the idea of tapping into the wealth of material from Lewis Carrol’s “Alice Through The Looking Glass”. Thus the new perfume they named “4160Tuesdays X ÇaFleureBon White Queen came to fruition.

An eighth anniversary for any online magazine is quite a milestone. Eight is an auspicious number; the numerical 8 turned on its side gives you the symbol of infinity and the eighth card of the Tarot is the Major Arcana card of Judgement often represented by a woman in white (our higher selves) taming a lion (our base and earthier instincts) and thereby acting as the conduit between the two representing total control of earthly situations. In numerology the key element of number eight is power and strength. The power of eight is critical as it is not the power that comes with anger and aggression; it is the power that comes with patience and energy that gives you strength to accomplish your goals.

4160Tuesdays White Queen X ÇaFleureBon is an unusual and beguiling scent, and quite a departure from the 4160Tuesdays canon which often presents fragrances with a wink and a smile, a certain cheekiness if you will. White Queen is a grown-up perfume for men and women who have left childhood trappings behind. Opening with wisps of incense and citrus, 4160Tuesdays White Queen X ÇaFleureBon tumbles head first into the proverbial rabbit-hole of perfumery, and onion-like reveals it in wondrous layers. The further you delve into this perfume, the more interesting and addictive it becomes.

This is a fragrance that entices with promises waiting to be discovered and mined if you will just give yourself over to it. The White Queen as written in “Alice Through The Looking Glass” is a complex character and full of contradictions. She lives her life backwards so as to always know what will happen “the week after next”. Like the beloved character, White Queen the fragrance constantly surprises with its twists and turns; just when you think you’ve got it all figured out, it veers off into another direction that is both unexpected, and surprising. At its heart White Queen X ÇaFleureBon is a neo-gourmand, but void of all the candy floss sweetness that seem so prevalent these days.

Anne Hathaway as The White Queen in the Tim Burton movie

It is the softest white duvet that comforts and coddles sans the cloyingness. The hazelnut and raspberry add a woody/fruity nuttiness that eschews the typical jam or jelly feeling for something non-sweet and deeply satisfying. The touch of jasmine gives it a floriental feeling; rich and luscious without being unctuous. I would swear to a touch of orris in the mix, but White Queen does not offer up her secrets easily. The lactonic velvety cream note smooths and adds unity, and of course Sarah McCartneys’ signature patchouli is present as well, but dialed back allowing the milky florals to shine. 4160Tuesdays White Queen X CaFleureBon is a fragrance that you will absolutely want in your collection; and this is coming from a fragrance connoisseur who owns as many 4160sTuesdays as Guerlain and Chanel. Unequivocally, it is one of Sarah’s best.

Notes: incense, hazelnut, citrus fruits, raspberry, jasmine (the Queen of Flowers), cream, opoponax, vetiver, patchouli, musk.

Note: 4160Tuesdays White Queen X ÇaFleureBon is a limited edition and available $110 for 50ml and $180/100 ml exclusively at Perfumology  (there is a small quantity of samples if you contact Nir Guy).

Disclosure: Thank you so much to Sarah McCartney and 4160Tuesdays for supplying my bottle of 4160Tuesdays White Queen X CaFleureBon   The  opinions are my own.

White Queen X CaFleureBon is intriguing because it seems different from other Sarah’s creations. It is perfume of twists and has interesting notes like raspberry and hazelnut. Robert calls it neo-gourmand and I wonder how a neo-gourmand may smell like. Thanks for the draw and congrats to Cafleurebon on 8th anniversary. I am in US.

  • After reading Robert review and this part “Unequivocally, it is one of Sarah’s best” i am pretty sure i wanna try this juice. Also the notes like incense, raspberry and vetiver are right on my alley. Thanks a lot for this great chance on draw, i live in the EU.

  • This perfume sounds like it contains my two favorite facets of perfumery which are often unfortunately mutually exclusive; a scent that tells me a story or takes me on a journey and a scent that is appealing and wearable. I would love the opportunity to try this…it sounds gorgeous! I am in the US and I appreciate the chance!

I am delighted to hear about a combination of jasmine, lactonic note and a gourmand character that doesn’t solely rely on sweetness.
Alice happened to be my favorite literary heroine as a child, and number 8 mu favorite number 🙂
I’d love to try this fragrance, thank you!

    Best,

I absolutely love fragrances that tell a story the longer they’re on the skin. It’s a fitting fractal metaphor for life and its many ups and downs, even on a daily basis. Despite being a Leo, I’ve come to recognize and resonate with my innate balance between the male and female, oftentimes percieving it as a woman clad in white, so the reference to the strength card is strikingly familiar. In addition, Alice Through the Looking Glass is one of my all-time favourite stories, and the combination of a jammy hazelnut-creeam gourmand with images from “Wool and Water” just makes me shudder in anticipation. Unlike Alice, I DO care for Jam. Said the Queen, “it’s a very good jam.” Canada.

The concept of it having many layers that reveal itself is what appeals to me most. Note breakdown sounds really good. Live in Albuquerque NM

  • Barbara Carter says:

The white duvet, the allure of things waiting to be discovered and mined, the neo gourmand of this, the berry, the nuts – sounds like a perfect afternoon tea with the Mad Hatter and the March Hare. A surprise waiting in the wings to happen as the story unfolds. As always, I tip my hat to you Robert, what a lovely review. I do enjoy unwinding your reviews, they are marvelous, as I am certain this creation is.
Down the rabbit hole and through the looking glass once more. Bring it!

  • Robert had me at “It is the softest white duvet that comforts and coddles sans the cloyingness.” Would love to see how the scent gets wrapped around my body. I live in New Orleans, Louisiana.

  • These notes sound gorgeous. Robert always paints a picture with words, and Sarah is such an artist herself, I know I would love, love to try it.
    I’m in Ohio, USA

  • Some fabulous combo of notes ,this really seems like something I’d be into ,smooth creamy lactonic scents thse are definitely comforting ,something I’d love to wear when relaxing, yum ! Fantastic review as always.

    Im in Canada

Thanks for the generous giveaway ,fingers crossed on this one !!

  • Absolutely needed that revelation about the numeral 8 today. Actually thinking about an infinity tattoo. thank you for that review Robert. It was right on time. I absolutely adore incense. In the US.

  • OK, like I excited ENOUGH ALREADY!!! I was ashtray sold in this fragrance when i learned that Sarah and Michelyn worked together on it… But common you HAD to add Robert’s AWESOME descriptions of it as well!!! I was trying to go next week to go get it… But now having read this, I want to get it YESTERDAY!!! LOL… THANKS FOR BOOSTING MY ANXIETY TO ASK NEW LEVELS!
All jokes aside great review Robert. I look forward to picking this up next week. No need to include me in the draw

  • Robert had me at lactonic…..and many of the other notes! I have become quite a fan of Sarah’s work recently. She has a talent for making especially comforting scents with a touch of whimsy. Im certain White Queen is the same as Alice in Wonderland is the proverbial whimsical fairy tale. Couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate 8 years! I will forego my draw as I will order now to not risk it selling out!

  • RoseMacaroon says:

This just sounds so yummy, while firmly in the spheres if beauty and elegance, not desserts. Whenever there’s a creamy laconic note uniting other/various notes I’m all over it, but the particular blending of hazelnut raspberry, jasmine (orris?) and patchouli sounds like my exact cup of nearly–not-quite consumable artistry.
    Thank you for the draw!
    I’m in the US.

  • Robert tells the story of this fragrance in such a way as to make its very mystery part of its appeal. The notes are very interesting and I quite like the idea of a gourmand that is not sugary sweet. Thanks for the draw. I”m in the USA.

  • Thank you for this draw! I’m intrigued by the idea of a gourmand without the hyper sugary sweetness. It sounds like a fabulous scent!

  • “it comforts and coddles sans the cloyingness” – what a glorious description! Sounds utterly intriguing…

  • ElenaChiss says:

I have never tried anything from 4160 Tuesdays before and I think White Queen would be a nice start. Also the combination of hazelnut and raspberry sounds really interesting and different!

I am from EU. Thanks for the draw!

  • Thank you for the draw. Lately I’ve been into milky floral like lattedoro so really excited to try this. I live in Europe.

  • I like Sarah, she is little bit crazy in good way, I think. We met on Pitti and i tryied some of her fragrances, but I haven’t any yet.
So I would like to try “one of Sarah’s best”. Thank you.
    I live in EU.

  • I never had a chance to try any perfume from this brand, however I heard so much wonderful things about this brand before. From the review, 4160Tuesdays White Queen X ÇaFleureBon sounds incredibly fabulously. I would be very glad If I would be the lucky winner. Thank you for the chance. I live in the EU.

  • I haven’t tried any of Sarah’s perfumes, but I need to. This one is especially enticing to me, as I love perfumes that have to be peeled like an onion. Robert’s delicious description, esp. the creamy patchouli is a mastery of words. I live in the US.

  • I would love to try this! I love a perfume that has layers, they are so much more interesting to give the wrist a sniff as it develops. The hazelnut and patchouli interest me the most. I love gourmands, but as I’ve experienced more fragrances over the last 5 years, I’ve found I prefer my gourmands without the over the top sweetness. Thanks for the chance!! USA.

  • A neo-gourmand?! Sarah McC is way ahead, I am so curious to try this! And I am sure it will smell incredible on my wife. Please let me win this to Germany.

  • I don’t often take time to enjoy videos online but have completely enjoyed watching a few of Sarah’s at the 4160 Tuesdays youtube channel. Delightful to hear her voice. I also enjoy Sebastian Jara’s videos, these all are changing the way I learn and think about fragrance.

Thank you to Robert for sharing the deliciousness of White Queen with CaFleureBon readers. Very happy to hear it is not overly sweet, a fitting thing for the White Queen. At the end of 2017 I made a list of perfumers and houses that I would like to get to know better in 2018. 4160 Tuesdays is at the top of that list. Thank you for the fragrant excitement and for the generous draw. I am in the US.

  • Robert’s article was so much fun to read! Congratulations on 8! I love Sarah’s fragrances and Love Patchouli. I would love to try. I live in the US. Thank you!

  • I have been intrigued with this one since hearing of the collaboration, and also because it celebrates 8 years for CaFleurBon. It sounds divine and I will willingly go down that rabbit hole.

  • I never had a chance to try any perfume from this brand.
I enjoyed this perfume’s description: “wisps of incense and citrus”, “woody/fruity nuttiness”, than “jasmine gives it a floriental feeling; rich and luscious “.

  • I have a couple of Sarah McCartney’s creations, Sleep Knot and the evening special edition she did for Scent Trunk (which I cannot for the life of me remember or find the name). I am almost out of that scent in particular and I’m so sad! It has a raspberry note as well, and I wasn’t sure if I would like it when I first ordered it, but it is such an exquisite scent. The inclusion of raspberry in White Queen makes me want this all the more!
I love the imagery of the white duvet-clean and fresh and beckoning. I am seriously overworked right now and the idea of just lying in a comfortable bed sounds like heaven. Especially when it smells divine (there is nothing like fresh warm linen out of the dryer, is there?)
I live in Saskatchewan Canada. Thank you!

  • Sounds like an interesting mix of notes. I havent smelled hazelnut too often, but it seems like it would complement milky florals with its decadent nuttiness. I’m in the US

  • Scentedwow1 says:

It’s the case when i have difficulty imagining what the perfume might smell when going through the listed notes but i definitely want to dive in the ‘duvet’ of The White Queen which is described here as a must have for such passionate perfume lovers as we are here.
    I’m in Switzerland. Thank you!

  • Lilaclady68 says:

Hazelnut is making quite the scene this last year or two in fragrances. I made a perfume using hazelnet. I’m absolutely facinated picturing the smell in my mind as a floriental and not just as a out & out gourmand as the perfume Tentation Piemontaise from Scent & Chemistry Facebook page, or Angel Muse..I’m also partial to opoponax and so curious to know if I’d be able to detect it…I live in Toronto, Canada
    Merci beaucoup pour ce concours!

  • Catanosmia says:

I love that he describes this as a neo-gourmand but what is most appealing is the collaboration that brought this fragrance to life. I’d love to smell this creation–what a great way to mark this anniversary! Thanks for the draw–I’m in the US.

  • Sounds really good. Would like to try it. Great report By Robert and mentioning that you will want this in your collection makes it more appealing to try. Thanks for the giveaway

  • A neo-gourmand with an incense note woke up my interest, I can’t imagine how this would smell and hopefully it would work on my skin. (EU)

  • Once again, happy anniversary, Cafleurebon!
The card of Strength is one of my most favorites in the Tarot deck, and I agree very much on this: “The power of eight is critical as it is not the power that comes with anger and aggression; it is the power that comes with patience and energy that gives you strength to accomplish your goals.” That is energy of Regulus changing signs from Leo to Virgo. I hope that this energy is captured in the fragrance.
Thank you for the opportunity, I live in the EU.

  • VerbenaLuvvr says:

Recently I started exploring this house, many left to try, but so far Eau My Soul and Centrepiece are favorites. It is lovely that Cafleurebon has done a collaboration piece to feature Cafleurebon. It will be interesting to experience this fragrance, as with a top note of incense, it would not seem to correlate with a white queen theme so it is a mystery waiting to be unraveled. As a devoted fan of this site, I want to congratulate you again on your longevity and wish you much continued success. I live in the US and thank you again for your generosity.

  • Sérgio Teixeira says:

    Thanks for the opportunity Cafleurebon.
By the review i became very interested with the designation from the get-go: neo-gourmand. I have a very sweet tooth, and hazelnut and raspberry just appeal to my senses. Not the bubble-gum vibe, but a luscious mature and adult kind of nuttiness delight. I live in Portugal and would love to try this one.

The review is amazing & my conclusion about Robert’s review is that he wants to say there is a queen in a bottle, and meet her. The notes sounds great & right up my alley. Never tried any of the 4160 Tuesdays perfumes so far. Unequivocally, it is one of Sarah’s best…so on my want list like Eau My Soul

As a gourmand lover my mouth is drooling from Robert’s review … “The “hazelnut and raspberry add a woody/fruity nuttiness that eschews the typical jam or jelly feeling for something non-sweet and deeply satisfying.”
Add jasmine and a touch of orris to this concoction and i’m in my gourmand Nirvana…
I do like 4160 house a lot-i own full bottle of Maxed Out-great colaboration with Maximilian Heusler-Youtube reviewer -super underated scent imo.I also like Eau My Soul a lot.

What a interesting-sounding fragrance! Robert does an excellent job of describing the twists and turns that are evident from the list of fragrance notes. I’ll admit my curiosity is definitely piqued – “curiouser and curiouser” indeed! I love the smell of hazelnut but haven’t encountered too many perfumes with this note so I’d love to see how Sarah has rendered it.
    Congratulations on 8 productive years!
    I live in the US.

Reading that Robert mentions it as a must have makes me very ecstatic. It seems like a true gem.
A perfume that wants “to be discovered and mined if you will just give yourself over to it ” is just perfect.
