Now in its third year, The Art and Olfaction Awards celebrates artisan, independent and experimental practices in perfumery.. Director Saskia Wilson Brown introduced perfume without politics. There is total transparency, and blind judging, The selection of the Art and Olfaction Awards judges differ from traditional judging practices.

The competition had preliminary judges to select the finalists and then a finalist judging panel to select the winners. While the judges came from a diverse group that includes various experts, critics and scientists, this group included peers of the entrants as well. All judges reflected a love of scent and understood the outcome was to be transparent without any of political elements seen in other competitions.
Calling all perfumers and olfactive artists worldwide…The Institute for Art and Olfaction opens submissions for the third annual Art and Olfaction Awards on October 5th:
Starting 00:01 (PST) on October 5th and ending at the end of the business day on December 4th, 2015, submissions for the third annual awards are welcomed in three categories: Artisan, Independent and Experimental. Submissions are open to perfumes and experimental scent projects that were (or will be) released to public consumption or view between January 1 and December 31, 2015.
2016’s Art and Olfaction Artisan Award will be presented to two outstanding artisanal perfumes out of five finalists. For the sake of the competition, w an artisan perfume is defined as a scent created by a perfumer who has direct ownership in the company, and blends every formulation – without the use of a fragrance house at any stage of the process. 2016’s Art and Olfaction Independent Award will be presented to two outstanding independently created perfumes out of five finalists. For the sake of the competition, an independent perfume is defined as a scent created for or by a privately-owned company with no more than three separate perfume companies in its holdings, and formulated by a perfumer who does not have a direct hand in every aspect of the production run
The winners will be announced at the award ceremony in Los Angeles on May 6, 2016.
