1/11/11: Looking Ahead to A Fragrant Year + A SCENTSATIONAL ’11’ PERFUME DRAW

With a unique numerical date 1/11/11 (there will be only two more like in this century —11/11/11 and 12/12/12) the spiritualists and the numerologists are predicting everything from UFO sightings over Moscow to the start of the countdown to Armegaddon on 12/12/12.  We are just a group of perfumistas looking ahead to a fragrant year…our hopes, dreams and of course the perfume.

 Vanessa's Perfume Diaries

Monthly Contributor Vanessa Musson

1.)  Greater availability of carded samples in store.  A quick squirt of a tester – the so-called “spray and pray” method of scent selection – shouldn’t be encouraged, as it can make for hasty sales, repented at leisure.

2.)  A decant supplies company based in Europe.  The US-based ones are great, but the shipping bumps up the price considerably!

3.)  Adverts containing note listings, or at least a broad indication of the style of the scent, beyond hints conferred by the model alone, as in: “something Keira Knightley would wear on a train”.

4.)  Roja Dove’s Perfume Diaries Exhibition and associated lectures on perfume-related topics.  All over again, please!

5.)  Converting more of my friends and family to perfume.  It’s a slow and steady war of attrition, which I do believe I am winning. : – )

6.)  More honesty on Ebay.  I think I may have just got scammed

7.)  More luck swapping away the albatross bottles in my collection that continue to haunt me.

8.)  The ever deepening virtual sorority of perfume bloggers

9.)  More blind sniffing dates with perfumistas in Europe, the States, or wherever my travels take me.

10.) Fewer flankers – and if there must be any more muted pink glazed Stella flankers, can we please start a McCartney series now?  McCartney In Three Peony, whatever.

11.) A new laptop – or netbook, even – I think I need Intel’s finest core to have any hope of keeping up with developments in the fumosphere…

No better way to celebrate this MYSTICAL and MAGICAL Day then with an awesome GLOBAL draw of 11 PERFUMED PRIZES. Leave a comment onsite regarding what you are looking forward to in 2011. The draw is random. Specifying a prize isn’t necessary, but is fine!!!  Draw ends Thursday January 13, 2011 at 1 am and 11 seconds EST.

Hoping for a year of health for my family, loved ones, and myself.   Will work toward living "in the moment" with all the joy that each moment deserves.   Wishing for serenity and passion.
Thank you for the opportunity to enter the draw.  Any prize would be most delightful, but DSH perfumes would be of particular interest!

  • things I'm looking forward to
         winning shooting star
getting all sorts of  rare decants in 2011
         travel travel travel
         buying more fresh flowers

  • I'm looking forward to more awesome projects like the (Mystery of Musk and Outlaw Perfumes projects) from the Natural Perfume Guild. I'm loving this growing interest in naturals, the more the better!

  • In 2011 I am looking forward to improving my perfumes and I would love to have anything from Anya's collection (something to strive towards).

  • 2010 was the year I really started getting hooked – Guerlain in particular was a focus.  2011 will be more L'Artisan, Amouage, and sampling all four-star and better fragrances in The Guide starting with the letter B and up. 🙂 (already did 'A')
would love the opportunity to score any of these scents – they all look interesting!  (I too am putting DSH on my shortlist this year.)

  • I'm tickled beyond belief that I'm included with Michelyn's picks of so many other talented IndieWomen!!!
This definitely lifts the January blues 😀
    Thank you so much!

  • I'm looking forward to what you all will be doing next at CaFleureBon!  I love the diversity of voices here and am looking forward to reading all the new contributors.  In a very short time this blog has certainly become a Shooting Star!  I would love to be entered in the draw for the Xjeroff.

  • I am looking forward to our vacation this upcoming Sept. 2011.   We are taking 3 weeks off to celebrate life and other cultures to include lots of fabulous food, smells, sights and people. Our travels will take us  first through the Greek Isles, then to Istanbul, Turkey where we will meet a fellow perfumista and her hubby who will be showing us the city. I can't wait to meet her.  And then lastly we will head to Barcelona, Spain and drive up the coast to soak up some sun and swim in the sea.
11 is my favorite number and I think 2011 will be a fabulous year.
    Cheers everyone!

    ~Dawn

  • I am looking forward to sharing some of my creations with others outside of my comfort circle. Love the CaFleureBon has done so awesome in first year. Would love Xjeroff or DSH.

  • I look forward to more bold scents with atypical,   "experimental"  notes… like ELD'O's   LIKE THIS.    Agree with Sergey that "complex" is where-it's-at,   not transparent/evanescent/cutesy.    Whoever gave "musky",   "dense" and "high sillage" a bad name?    (-;

Wishes to all my dear Perfumisti for a fabulous year!!    xoxox,   DAVE

    11 things:
    1) A job
    2) sanity
    3) financial fluidity
    4) continued good health
    5) continued love and support from family and friends
    6) appreciation of what I already have
    7) finding a new thing to reignite my passion for fragrance
    8) feeling more happy and a lot less miserable
    9) a chance to meet some new friends that love fragrance as I do near me!
    10) peace, I want more peace within myself
    11) allow worry and guilty to melt away from my soul.
I hope I'm not asking for too much.

  • For 2011 I want…
    Answers.
    Relaxation.
    The beach!
Quality decants and bottles for my very new collection. I'm being picky and going slow.
    My first DSH's. 🙂

  • I'm looking forward to expanding my indie business by moving out of my comfort zone, improving my health and learning a new language.

  • Oh, Kathleen – best wishes to you and your results!
2010 was very self-indulgent, perfume-wise. I look forward to maybe buying less but contemplating more…  (yeah, right)
Getting my sniff pals together again for Spring and Fall SF Sniffs!
Meeting more wonderful people on the blogs,  facebook, and real life, who share and enable so beautifully.
Being able to get and wear my spring choices, because right now I am too cold to even think about them.
    These draw prizes are amazing!!!
    Happy 1/11/11!

  • Work more productively, procrastinate less
Stop buying cheap unsniffeds because they never work out
    Invest in more fall/winter scents

  • Carlos Powell says:

I'm looking forward to a better financial situation, success in my music, and of course more and more perfume!

  • I love Jarvis' concept of a "smelltrack"! And I'm looking forward to reveling in and writing about the daily scents around me, as well as experiencing more of the great perfumes of the past, present, and future.

  • I am looking forward to happiness.  It has alluded me for the past few years and I NEED it. This year, I am determined to get to my happy place …AND STAY THERE!  Oh, and I'm also looking forward to winning the Xerjoff!! 🙂

  • In 2011, I would just like for things to be Better.  Is it that difficult to just be Better?

I would also like to find a new scent, something I like enough to purchase, maybe something smoky, maybe something involving birch tar.  I would like to find a rose scent that works for me.  Roses and birch tar?  I would like to be able to smell Shalimar without becoming anosmic for two days — what does it smell like, anyway, and what's in there that kills my sense of smell?

  • I'm looking forward to many things, big and small. On the fragrant front, I'm looking forward to sampling Iris Ukiyoe, Tabac Aurea and Tabac Blond. I'm optimistic about finding an HG for my new husband. I'm also really looking forward to reading the reccently published book on No 5, and Jean Claude Ellena's new book (is it REALLY coming out this time? I heard that before!).

Great prize draw!! I would totally go for Xerjoff, but there's no bad prize on this one! I heard that Geza Shoen works with Linda Pilkington, so I hope to try some the Escentric line this year, too. Looove OJ.

  • I am looking forward to many things, among them my daughter's first birthday. This will be a year of many "firsts" and I'm reveling in the excitement of it all!

  • I'm looking forward to another year with family and friends; esp. new perfumista friends on this wonderful blog and others.  Guerlain is my "house", but the Xerjoffs I have tried are winning me over:)  Quality, for sure!!

  • It's wonderful and fulfilling to hear of so many eagerly awaiting the Natural Perfumers Guild's next project.  It's already in the works, and will be a real conversation – and nose – stimulator, I promise.   We have another catchy phrase, and a lot of work to do!  Thank you, everyone, so much, for the wonderful feedback, and with Mystery of Musk and Outlaw Perfume under our belt, we're moving forward into exciting territory with the next one.

  • This new year I am looking forward to taking a family vacation, expanding my business, and trying the best vetiver of '10 and Mati Hari.

  • I'm looking forward to successful surgery and recovery so I can enjoy my 14yo son's growing up years 🙂

  • What a generous draw! I enjoyed reading everyone's lists, especially the Spinal Tap reference. :o) PLease enter me – I'm dying for the DSH scents, but I would be thrilled to win anything. I have been wearing my tiny sample of Anya's Amberess, and it's fantastic, too. You can't lose, really!

  • For 2011 I am hoping for more civility and understanding among humans on Earth. I wish for that every year, maybe someday it will come true!
On a personal level, I wish for financial freedom, vigorous health and an abundant garden. I would also like to meet more of my perfume "friends" in person!
In the perfume world, I wish Dior would stop spending money on releasing so-so perfumes and tell IFRA to take a hike by restoring Diorissimo, Miss Dior and all the Dior classics to their original glory. Then I want them to give me a bottle of each one for coming up with this brilliant idea.  😀
Oh, and I really want that Xerjoff Kobe Shooting Star please!!!!!

  • What do I want for this year???
A political sense of peace in the US
A good season for our kitten fostering activities–that would be fewer unwanted kittens and good homes for all those that we do foster
Increasing my perfume knowledge.  Being a newbie I try to learn form all my opportunities
Frequenting our new and local indie perfume shop!!
Convincing hubby that even though I have enough perfume to last the rest of life, one more little bottle isn't really too much more.
    Trying swaps and bottle splits
Spring!  I'm looking forward to Spring!
These are lovely draw items!  The fragrance community is truly a gifted and generous group.

  • Looking forward to another busy year at my job. Making money to support my insatiable appetite for more beautiful fragrance releases to grace my beautiful collection. Enjoying more fun swaps with my wonderful perfume friends and sharing our sniffing experiences. And to read more wonderful articles about some of the wonderful Perfumers that create this wonderful scents.

  • Thank you so much for the love and to be a part of this incredible fragrance community!  I am thrilled to be on your lists for 2011 and hope it will be an exciting year for aroma art form!!!  Let's go!! 🙂 <3
ps: I hope it is ok to throw my hat in the ring for the giveaway… I am always looking for fabulous finds for my Museum and so many of these perfumes are stunners. 😉

  • I'm looking forward to finding a perfect amber, trying some more incense and trying some more niche fragrances esp. stuff with spices! Also looking fw to attending a Sniffa in 2011! Would love to win…anything!

  • I look forward to finishing school. Getting accepted into grad school and finding a job (hopefully).

  • as 2010, thus 2011 for DSH. thank you for the generous draw and may 2011 continue to see your creativity blossom. You must read sergey’s article…on vintage fragrances… and for those who love Dawn’s fragrances… click on the icon on cafleurebon.

  • What a wonderful blog you guys have! And what a wonderful giveaway– please count me in! Those dsh and anya's garden look delightful, and I've never heard of xjeroff and didn't know about escentric 3 so will have to check those out…
In the coming year I am looking for improvement in my chronic health issues, and especially in sleep, pain, and cognitive function, because I used to read blogs online and even contribute, and now I don't have much stamina for reading books or online and I miss it terribly.  I also hope to get back in touch with friends with whom I've lapsed communications due to health/attention problems, because I recently saw an old friend for an evening and it was lovely. Reminded me of the joys I can still experience!

  • taffynfontana says:

I hope Kathleen has a clear mammogram as well. Sending you good thoughts and my prayers Kathleen. This coming year I want to organize my scents so I can easily pick them out based on the mood I am feeling.

  • Work more, dance more.
Hunt for an vintage fragrances in obscure little perfumeries and antique stores (Ah, glorious pre-reformulation scents! Oakmoss anyone?)
Explore a bit more the realms of chypres and roses.
    Give and receive love.
Start a fragrance community in my country.

  • In 2011 I am looking forward to:
    1. Joy of living in love with my DH and celebrating our 9th anniversary.
    2. More clarity, awareness, and planning in my life.
    3. My Mom's visit in May
    4. I am hoping to visit Boulder again and pay a visit to DSH Essence Studio, of course, which is my Boulder tradition.
    5. Spending less time at the computer and more doing other things I like

  • Aaron Potterman says:

I look forward to spring and the recreation of all the wonderful scents I made up last year!

  • Thank you so much for this amazing giveaway!  You are all fantastic, and I enjoyed reading your wishlists.
I am looking forward to spending more time playing the piano, spending a little less time at work, and being able to visit my favorite perfume haunts, like Scent Bar and Barneys, on a more frequent basis this year.
    Hugs!

  • I look forward to graduating from college this spring. I can't wait to read whatever I fancy, never write any more essays, take any more finals, or live in that little studio apt!!

  • Thank you for your wonderful blog! In 2011 I just want to not buy so many impulse purchases on ebay and spend the money more on good quality, maybe more spendy, niche bottles. I'd also like to get my perfume cabinet under control. Since that will never happen, I can only hope for finding a matching second perfume cabinet.

  • What I hope for the most in 2011 is to be able to experience as much as possible in fragrance and write about it. I have learned what my favorite notes are (cedar, oud, leather), and am enjoying having my mind blown by the very unique creations of some perfumers. If I had to pick from the lovely group of prizes you have offered us here, it would be the DSH perfumes (one of my favorite perfumers) or the Escentric 03 (that I have not yet sniffed, but wish to). Thank you for such a great post, it's always fascinating to peer into the hopes and dreams of other scent lovers.

  • nadia slakov says:

What an amazing blog!! love all the inspiring looking-forward statements.
i am looking forward to staying grounded and unshakable, of knowing my true self whilst in the middle of the storm.
i am looking forward to showing my love and appreciation to those in my heart, and making room for some more.

i am a huge DSH fan!!

  • My hopes and dreams for 2011
    1. To find a job I enjoy (and which also pays the bills).
    2. To travel to London (an old love) and New York (which I haven't visited yet) with hub.
    3. To be able to buy perfumes again (this one is connected with wish #1).
    4. That the IFRA nonsense will stop: do not ban the ingredients, but rather add "health warning" stickers, if you must.
    5. That the Classics that have been tempered with will be returned to their former glory.
    6. That the endless flood of itsy-bitsy-teeny-weeny-tutti-frutti pink juices will finally stop.
    7. The very same wish applies also to celeb-U-frags.
    8. And also to the use of "faces" for fragrances – bring back the wonderful abstract, artful advertising that had more to do with the mood of the fragrance than with personifying it.
    9. I wouldn't mind, either, if there would be no more sequels (and threequels etc etc) for perfumes.
    10. That the fragrance ban is not going to happen.
    11. To be healthy and happy and enjoying life.
(and if I'm lucky I hope to win the DSH prize!)

  • Scentabulous says:

This year … more gratitude … for the Ones who make the fragrance world glisten and glow so brightly.  Michelyn … you are a star.  It is a joy to watch as you shine more brightly with each unfolding moment.  Thank you for your friendship and your hard work in this scentabulous world.
Ah yes, to organize all the bottles, decants and vials.  Of course, to feel well enough to re-enter the world that I adore.  To continue studying and loving what I learn … about perfume, about life …
To help … where and how I can.
    xo

  • Thank you for this opportunity! I have lots to learn, and I'm looking forward to budgeting more time for reading fragrance blogs.

  • Hello, and thank you for this opportunity! I'm looking forward to budgeting more time for reading fragrance blogs. Wishing you all a fabulous and fragrant year!

  • So interesting to see everyone's wishes and dreams!  I for one wish for more sleep, work harder in my mom's fashion company, organized collection (ditto Jarvis as we are often partners in crime together with all these decants!), time devoted to my own studies in natural perfumery (I will graduate one day Anya… really~), global shipping from more companies (Taiwan really is on the other side of the world from just about everyone) and looking forward to new releases from my favorite indie and natural perfumers many of which I heard about from Cafleurebon~

  •
Hopes for 2011, in random order…
Take more time off and travel.
Meet more of my perfumista friends, wherever they are.
Do something different and worthwile, professionaly – with nice, smart people rather than exclusively with computers.
Keep cooking, focusing on taste, presentation and improving my bread-making skills.
    Learning new things.
Sitting peacefully on the balcony, watching the clouds go by.
Discovering more indie perfumes. And vintages.
    Oh and, a long-term perfumista girlfriend. :p

  • On the fragrance front, I, too, am looking forward to that Bertrand Duchaufour rice and ink perfume he mentioned! I have a bunch of things on my wishlist, and I think I will try to get them all in the coming year…. if I can afford them!! Thank you for sponsoring this giveaway!

  • Ooh, I agree with Vanessa's Europe based decant supplier. One is sorely needed. 🙂
I am looking to another year filled with perfume discoveries, hopefully a job in the same industry (oh, how I wish my love of perfume would combine with a job where I can practise it daily).
Continuous enjoyment of perfume friendships being established (and those already existing) all over the world.

  • What I'm looking forward to in the new year is the smaller Xerjoff bottles, new fumes from indie perfumers (LOVE) and hoping to only buy what I love and not just like. Have a wonderful new year everyone!

  • great article on an auspicious date !
I am looking forward to spreading the love of Bruno Acampora Profumi , my new employer . Maybe a draw for a sample set here on CaFleureBon ?

  •
@Katyryn, Michelyn has indeed pulled together a diverse group of contributors with varying interests and focus. I think we can promise one thing in 2011, and that is, CaFleureBon won't be boring. ; )

@All Our Readers, Sincerely wishing you all first and foremost great health.
    Happy 11/01/11 Lamont Prince

  • Learning more about botany, discovering more wonderful natural perfumers, some fruitful experimentation in my aromatherapy lab, and buying a few more wonderful vintage 'fumes on ebay, haha (Femme is still my favorite of those).

  • I launched a massive pefume project this year, and have selected 120 perfumes to sniff my way through over the course of the months.  I'm looking forward to that a great deal.

  • What a fascinating list of lists! Many of these items are my personal goals as well. Lots of cultural references for me to go research…I especially like "demise of one-upmanship" and similar thoughts. Vanessa's word: FUMOSPHERE is brillilant. I am looking forward to reading this blog in my continual search for knowledge, entertainment and community. Happy 2011!

  • Kimberly McDaniel says:

    A most auspicious date!
I do so look forward to reading/learning about the new experimental perfumes. This promises to be an exciting year! Let's crank it to 11!

  • My perfume related wishes for 2011 are:
    1. More time – both to enjoy the perfumes I have and to smell new ones.
    2. More patience – to weed out the ones I like well enough but not that much before the buying frenzy takes over and I end up with a bottle of something I never wear.
    3. Some good swaps to get rid of the unloved bottles from point 2!
    4. Something from Bertrand Duchaufour that I love rather than admire so I feel less left out!
    5. All my favourite bloggers to continue doing what they do so well which gives so much pleasure to me every day.
If I win, I'd love the Xerjoff or Anya's Garden.  Thank you so much.

  • Hi, Michelyn, Thanks for inviting me to participate in this fun blog post. It's great to read everyone's hopes and aspirations for the new year.

  • I look forward to letting my wife try all kinds of new perfumes on me, and I'm dying to win the Xerjoff!

  • Hi guys – thanks for the draw!  All of these sound amazing.
On perfume, I'm looking forward to:
    – PARIS IN OCTOBER!!!  Woo-hoo!!!
    – Purging my collection – passing on perfumes that I don't love so much to those who can appreciate them
    – No more unsniffed purchases!
    – More swapping and splitting and trying new things – especially anything by Mathilde Laurent, Yann Vasnier, Bertrand Duchaufour, L'Artisan, and Guerlain!
    – Crossing fingers for Cartier L'Heures travel sprays or coffrets?!

  • This I wont pass for sure. I think I have a great year a head of me. The closest thing I´m looking forward to is to go and watch the new Narnia-mocie with my youngest daughter tonight. 🙂
After that I´m looking forward to a possible (springtime) trip to one of Europes big cities, probably London but it could be Paris, Barcelona or Florence also.
And to meet my perfumista friends in Stockholm.
In May me and my darling husband celbrate that we have been a coupple for 25 years. During summer I have some family matters to look forward to (but some of them are still kind of secret…)
And of course I´m looking forward to win any of the prices in this draw. Thank you! 🙂

  • Wishes for 2011 in terms of perfume: I wish and hope that I will exhibit some fiscal restraint and patience in determining Full-Bottle-Worthiness! Even so I'd love to win that "50ml flacon Shooting Star in silk pouch of Kobe"!

  • I'm feeling very good about the upcoming year!
    1. Moving back to Portland, OR after many years of being in places that don't feel like home.

  • Wow !  What great lists you have all compiled!  I recognized Jarvis's collection before I saw him in the photo!  And I am so excited about Bruno Acampora, Carol!
Thank you for today!  Fragrant regards…

  • For 2011 i hope that i can perfect my habilites of understanding fragrances. As a consumer, i wish that Guerlain release again L'Abeille, bot now in an afordable format.
The prize i`d pick if i`m sorted on the draw is the xerjoff frag

  • OMG!  All fabulous wishes for the New Year!  I have to say, my hope is to travel to NY for the (Chandler Burr) Museum Exhibit!  I'm going to start saving my pennies now…or maybe after my next frag purchase!!!  Thanks everyone, for the fun read!

  • Happy New Year everyone! What a fun blog and a great giveaway. Thanks for the opportunity! What do I look forward to? I look forward to sniffing around India and seeing what goodies are there. I'm also starting to gear up for my 2nd career (which begins in the next two years, but I have to start getting ready now). Good luck to all!

  • I'm looking forward to even more natural perfumes to choose from & reading about them on this Fabulous blog!

  • Wow, these lists make me feel like such a slacker. 🙂 I have two goals for this year: 1) a project I'm working on whereby I complete 1 page of a planned graphic novel each week for a year, then self-publish it; and 2) hop on a train to NYC to see (and sniff) the Chandler Burr exhibit.  I hope every one of us attains our desires this year!

  • I resolve to sniff anything and everything I can get my hands on. I'm looking forward especially to a trip to NYC and thinking about attending my first Sniffapalooza! Happy New Year!

  • GREAT lists.  There are things on here that are so inspiring!  Mine is to continue to get my business on-track and moving forward (that's non-perfume stuff, of course).  Perfume:  I would like to actually spend real, quality time with my collection.  Sometimes I wonder if I'm just amassing stuff.  No time really, to enjoy it!  Must change that.

    xo

  • Thanks for this, all!  I'm looking forward to gardening (the seed catalogues are here!), and hopefully meeting up with some folks I have met through these blogs.

  • Henrique I would love l’abeille in mini me bottle like the xerjoff!!!
June Thomas: Yes it made Mark’s list and it on mine too
Denise: keeping it simple is the ultimate luxury

  • Number one on Wikio, that's excellent! And well deserved.
    1) Trying scents that are launched this very year
    2) Visiting old shops in the city that "probably" could keep old bottles to sell
    3) Be thankful for another special year
    4) Create an atmosphere where I can garden at home some seeds starting in Spring
    5) Get to know better many fragrances ' history through the years
    6) Write a blog about my personal thoughts
    7) Try to translate my blog entries into English on another blog. Although this looks a bit far away
    8) Win a perfume prize haha
    9) Extend my friendship through chats and mail and letter exchange
    10) Travel to the US

    11/11/11 It's a very significant date indeed!
    Much Love!

  • A holiday! The same weekend (first weekend of July) has become a tradition for all of us my father's side of the family to go away to a quite little place in South Devon. It will be fun, and it's the only thing set in stone for me this year.
Fragrance wise, more originality and ideas in designer scents wouldn't go amiss. 2010 was not a bad year for it. 2011 should be better!

  • I am looking forward to: moving to SF, finding rewarding work, enjoying the California outdoors, being geographically closer to my family, hosting my niece & nephew on their first big road trip together, streamlining and consolidating my possessions, and enjoying life's mundane and spectacular moments.
And if I am drawn, I'd love to receive escentric 03.

  • For this 2011 I would love to go to Paris for my 10th wedding anniversary, also to win in an online draw :p and to keep on discovering amazing perfumes (the last being Sombre Negra)

  • Hoping that this 2011 Serge Lutens add Iris Silver Mist or Encens et Lavande to the export line and also to take vacation to a nice place…

  • In 2011 I am looking forward to my best friend's wedding and to finding a more fulfilling job, hopefully with a salary that will allow more fragrant purchases 🙂

  • This year I'm looking forward to improving my health (slow but sure), having my parents come home from Africa and spending time with them, getting more pefume decants, and vacationing in the Okanagan of southern British Columbia.

If I'm drawn, I'd be very interested in the two fragrances by Anya's Garden.

  • Oh I got a 'taste" of Mata Hari which was sooooooo beautiful, beyond what I expected and lovely.
I have yet to try Anya's perfumes and am not familiar with Xjeroff's Shooting Star but I am game!  Please enter me.   Thank you.

  • I too feel inspired by what I have read so far!  I did not discover my love for perfume until recent years, having grown up in a fragrance-averse household.  Even so, I am beginning to understand its power – to soothe, excite, inspire creativity, even repel (only as necessary, I'm not that evil…)
For 2011, I hope to continue on this "scent journey" while resisting the urge to buy unsniffed just because it sounds interesting, or has a pretty bottle.  Perfume-wise or otherwise, I hope everyone is able to accomplish their personal goals this year.
As for the giveaway, they all sound great but I would LOVE the Xjeroff!  Thanks for much for doing this!

  • I'm looking forward to a better year healthwise for my children. I am also ready to do some real gardening this spring – I can't wait.
1/11/11 is a great day at my house because it is my oldest daughter's birthday – she is 12 today.
    Thanks!

  • I'm looking forward to wearing all the great stuff I bought over the course of the last year — and hopefully not buying quite so much. 🙂

  • A turning point year in terms of learning about perfume, changing my body returning to love.  I expect 2011 to have crisis and breakthrough–great joy and grief.  Please enter me.

  • I would love to start my own business, help my baby grow up beautifully, do more yoga, live in harmony and laugh more often ))) please enter me!

  • Wow, I didn't even think about the date today..
Mmmm, Mata Hari sounds great and Xerjoff also!

  • I'm looking forward to getting a job (I've been unemployed for over a year) and trying lots of new scents!

  • I've started picking a word (theme) for the year.  2011 is abundance — so I'm looking forward to thinking on that daily and working to bring it forth.  And, if I am so lucky as to get a prize, it would be the pair from Anya's Garden that I have not tried yet.

  • May the new year brings new scents to discover. I hope to win one of Anya's bottles to start  my 2011 scent explorations.

  • Zee Boudreaux says:

Having just sampled Anya's Garden Perfumes, Amberess and Light I must say I would love to receive larger supplies of them (both are addictive).
I'd be sure to love anything by DSH as well though.
2011 is my year of perfume. Studying with both Mandy Aftel and more on the aromatherapy bent with Jeanne Rose, building my organ and my perfume collection step by step.

  • 1.11.11  Thank you, for the invitation, to share my wishes, wants and needs.
First, I hope to keep my heart open to love and everything that nourishes my spirit and soul. I also have the deepest desire. To learn more about, your lovely perfumes, that connect us all to each other and to experience the aromatic journey you have gifted the universe with.

  • what am i looking forward to in the new year? hopefully looking more within than forward or without… to light and all it reveals, to the disassociation with illusion and further conversation with joy. to more experience with aroma and the magic it represents…  and of course, to snuggle time with my feline companion.

  • great lists! i'd add no more fruitchoulis, ever. we have enough. i'd be thrilled to win any prize!

  • My wish for 2011 is health for me and for all my loved ones. For perfumes, I would love to find a Holy Grail green fragrance which makes me feel like I'm in the countryside. It would be my personal relaxing smell, because I really need it. I haven't found something like that yet. Some green fragrances are too green (too much galbanum maybe), other smell like raw vegetables, other smell like farms… I need something which smells like mountains, forests and streams. Well, at least something which makes me feel like that 🙂

Thank you for this wonderful draw!

  • It is my birthday so of course I will enter this amazing contest.  Fabulous line up of perfumes and a great post!
I am in sort of seclusion in an Ashram in the California hills……no mind…
I am looking forward to making perfumes that lift the spirit and heart.
Less effort, more breath (my lesson today)
I'd like to deepen my relationships with the many wonderful perfumistas  that  share the love of perfume with me….
Om Shanti…bring on the perfume.  Off to climb Shiva hill~
    love,
    Ragna

  • 1. Starting a new chapter in my life, and a move to CA (am I crazy moving to a bankrupt state?).
    2. Trip to? Maybe Rome (which is crazy, because I'm leaving my job and moving to a bankrupt state)
    4. Perfume, Perfume, Perfume
    5.  Meeting a man this year (it always happens when you aren't ready for it, and with all my new changes, it's bound to happen because I've got too much going on, so I'm just going to embrace it if it does.)

  • So generous!  In 2011 I am looking forward to appreciating what I have.  So many wonderful things divide my attention and I hope to revisit some.  Best wishes for the new year!  -C

  •
I'm wishing for inspiration, creativity, peace in the world, my world, your world and the world of Nature and wildlife…And I'd love Anya's 3.5 oz of Light 3.5 oz of Amberess

  • Karen Carpenter says:

I look forward to sniffing the first freesias & daffodils & returning to the opal mines of mysterious northern Nevada & continuing my quest to find an old, original, unopened bottle of L'Heure Bleu.  Happy, happy New Year to all!!

  • Jeremie Eva says:

wishing peace inside and on earth  ; and good health for all first
Then for finally  c hoosing between working with  natural perfumes or painting, where to put this plentifull creative  energy into, so it can manifest as abondance.
    As for the magic realm of smell, let me play with honeysuckle and boronia, with agarwood and gardenia with linden blossom and lotus flower,looking forward to discover  and sniff the unknown…;
To mix the exclusive ,to reveal and fly with the subtle…
Looking forward to create from the amazing palette of natural earth, why not to be taught by the "noses" of natural perfumery ….
And yes , i wil go for Anya's garden perfumes please.

  • Denise Smith says:

You all very energizing! I am starting my own botanical garden. Learning, studying, exploring etc
    all  about  natural essences!

  •  This is an amazing giveaway!! I would like to receive Xerjoff Shooting Star. Thank you so much!!!
Happy New Year and best wishes for all!!!

  • Looking forward to hot weather so I can wear Nuit de Tubereuse every day again.
Looking forward to Bertrand Duchaufours's new creations. (I see I am not alone in this!)
Looking forward to meeting more new wonderful fume heads.  2010 was great for that!

  • Peace already!  Spiritual Oneness. Prosperity in all realms for all people.  And I wish for a finer tuned nose.  Lordy Lu I love perfume!    Love, Annie

  • There's so much to look forward to…on the top of my list is visiting my son in Rome, the return of my husband's health, and getting more perfumes on my wish list. So health, family, and fragrance are tops!

  • Christine Lewandowski says:

Let's be more gentle with one another, use our planet's resources more sparingly, speak more kindly to one another.  I would like to see the end to the armed conflicts around the world and the invention of an entirely new (& renewable) energy source.
Fragrance wise, I know nothing of Lynn Zorns' work & I'd like to correct that.  I want to pare down my collection to the "must haves" before my family moves to St Louis.  It would be wonderful to have a visit to Boston to see my perfume friends.
As far as trends for myself, I can see me continuing to explore the dichotomy of chypres & "powdery" scents.  I am avoiding fruity florals, musks (can't smell them) and "fresh"/"sport" aquatics.
    Hugs to all!

  • Chris Schaefer says:

My website will be redone and up.  I will launch my line of natural perfumes.  I am excited at the opportunities that abound in this new year!

  • sonia garcia says:

There are lots of things that I want to do this 2011, one of them is to go back to Europe and enjoy some nice vacation there, and also to try the SL Boxeuses that made it to a lot of best of lists.

  • you smell!!! says:

Wow! This is an amazing giveaway! First I just wanna wish all the people a happy 2011 and to make the best of it! I personally would love to go to the Iguazu Falls this year and to keep on trying/buying amazing new creations! Also to see if I can win some cool prize here…    😀

  • looking forward to the further explosion of more small, individual creative enterprises made possible by the internet… to more local food… to hopefully finding employment in the field of my choice!… and, since I'm a pragmatist, to earning the money that will help me buy and sample more delightful perfumes… would be thrilled to try the DSH scents–I've heard great things–but Anya's are surely a close second.

  • Wow! What a fabulous way to start the new year. I’m hoping for the world to wake up, and for love and peace to prevail! Thanks for the opportunity to win such beautiful prizes!

  • in 2011 I wish for more time to write make art and time to smell the (metaphorical) roses–since I'm a chypre and incense kind of girl. and of course more time to experience fragrance and its wonderful enthusiasts!

  • Looking forward to more great projects from the Natural Perfumery Guild, and furthering my knowledge!  I would love either of Anya's new perfumes!  Thanks for the drawing!
    Michael

  • This is the year that I hope to channel all of my projects into a synchronized effort.  I often feel pulled in different directions, distracted at times trying to keep things together.  Like watching NASA launch a rocket, which gives off a billowing cloud of exhaust until finally there goes a flare, slowly at first, but finally above and beyond everything, 2011 will be the year I finally get beyond the pull of gravity.

  • I am looking forward to learning more about natural perfumery….. and finally making something that I like :-).  Changing priorities and focus.  Making some new habits.

  • This year  I plan to study at least 5 scent in detail, pay my taxes on time and to have a great time doing yoga and being healthy. I would also love to explore some of Anya's scents!

  • Plan to get back to my natural perfumery explorations working with essential oils in organic jojoba. My inspiration? Natural perfumes used for their healing properties as well as pure pleasure, of course!
Need to learn all the basics, learn more about fixatives, try other natural perfumers creations, and more.
Also, want to do more Tai Chi and get off my computer chair and into my garden on nice days.
Curious about Anya's perfumes or the DSH offerings. Love soap, too.

  • I look forward to increasing my knowledge of perfumery and blending.  To experience each and every moment of life to the fullest.  To helping others find the blessings in each day no matter how small. To  be thankful for having the gift of life.

  • I am looking forward to acquire more precious scents for my collection and become familiar with those unknown to me yet. Would prefer to get the Xerjoff conribution. Thanks for entering me!

  • Would prefer Xerjoff contribution, thanks for entering me. Looking forward to acquire more precious scents in my collection and getting known the new ones. Thanks!!!!

  • A dream is to have the time to venture into perfumes.  Never a big desire to win things but these oh yes.  I've admired Anya's perfumes for some time.

  • Thanks for such an amazing drawing!  I'm looking forward to eating healthier this year, getting my life organized and of course, learning more about the wonderful perfumes that are out there.

  • I'm looking forward to getting closer to finishing Grad school and hope to land a new job with continued success. Great piece by the way. I like Mark's comment about Min Michelyn's comment about being respectful of others view, and Emmanuelle's point about finding room for 71 bottles of perfume…so true.

  • I'm looking forward to getting back into the work force again.  I want to give the gift to my daughter of her leaving college totally debt free so need to work so to pay the majority of her tuition and living expenses. I want to find that perfume that smells like The Body Shop Warm Amber shower gel.  I've already started to eat better so expect that to continue.  And I really really look forward to visiting my beloved sister and niece and nephew later this year.

  • I am looking forward to a more relaxed work schedule, and having more time to spend on perfume creation! I am looking forward to my recently purchased gardenia and jasmine plants making it through winter (fingers crossed) and blooming all spring and summer. Also, perhaps a trip to southern France that I have been continuously putting off? That would be phenomenal!
What a great draw! I would love the chance to win one of Anya's perfumes!

  • Looking forward to learning more about fragrances and maybe having the chance to smell some vintage perfumes that I have read so much about. Thanks for the opportunity to enter the draw.

  • Dear Anya ,
I discovered you on the internet in my quest for organic personal care products and all though to my disadvantage I have not had the luxury of using your perfumes, you have inspired a desire in me to learn about this art form . I don't believe in cosmetic products that are in the long run harmful to the skin and ultimately what you have created in your perfumes is a natural remedy with the added benefits of the complexities of nature . Its almost like your showcasing GOD's glory in nature through your understanding and love of it ..

  • Cindy Foster says:

Thank you for another awesome drawing!!! I am looking forward to becoming a healthier me. Also want to gaining more knowledge in  perfumery & blending. Wishing everyone a happy, healthy & prosperous 2011.  ~  Warmest Aloha to All!

  • Super start to 2011! I'm not looking forward to any one fragrance in particular, ready and willing to sniff one and all.

  • Naphirisa, thank you for your lovely comments about my perfumes and the healthful spirit of natural perfumes, which does occur on many levels, whether wearers realize it or not.

    Sincerely,
    Anya

  • I'm inspired by the glorious potency of essential oils, and this year I am embarking on my education of combining them into customized anointing/perfume oils.  I'm also looking forward to a trip to Guatemala, crosscountry skiing tomorrow (and throughout the wintery season), continuing growth in my relationships, integrity of the self shining through the spirit.

  • Michelle DOWNUNDER says:

I'm looking forward to vibrating at a higher frequency, putting my hands in the soil, growing things, appreciating all my family and friends, living, loving and giving.

  • I don't place much meaning on dates and times, but even I think 11/11/11 11:11 will be an interesting one.  Birthday's tomorrow, maybe I'll get a gift out of this!  🙂

  • This year I'd like to stop being the world's biggest procrastinator and finally go about finishing unfinished business. Since I have been living under a (prehistoric) rock perfume-wise, I'd also like to visit the ginormous backlog of perfumes unsmelled, or I'll have my perfumista card revoked.
Oh yeah, and I'd love one of those escentric 03 decants 😉

  • Oh, how very nice.
My sole wishes for this year are to remain in good health and for financial/workplace stability. Little do we often remember that both of those are more precious than gold (or Xerjoff!).
My best wishes to EVERYONE here!

  • Thank you for the wonderful draw! I would love to try Xerjoff or Anya's Garden! I have a bottle of Mata Hari and it is gorgeous! Whoever wins it will fall in love!

  • I also do perfume giveaways!  I love it!  Firstly here's a big kiss and hug to everyone for good-wishes for this new year.  I hope that everyone's inspirations manifest in grand ways.  Also, I'm so excited to be eligible to perhaps (if luck is on my side) to win a perfume!  Oh how thrilling.  I've got my fingers crossed. Thanks!
    XOXO

  • Wisjing everyone a great 2011! I'll move back to Stockholm and set myself up as a freelancer, practice my yoga and smell fabulous…!

  • I want to go for vacation, stop procrastinating and become more physically active. Happy New Year 2011,

  • I'm looking forward to some harmony in life in 2011, rather than the run away train that was 2010!
Oh and some more quality time experimenting with my essences and perfumes!  🙂
I'd love one of the natural perfumes!
    Holly

  • in 2011 i am looking forward to the birth of my first daughter and my birth as a new mom
i bet no one can beat that one 🙂
i hope to win Anya's perfume

  • Fantastic drawing-thank you!
Looking forward to career dreams coming true for my fragrance sales business.  Happy 2011!

  • I've heard Dominique Dubrana is working on an "ultimate musk scent". Hopefully this will be released this year, and if so then it's probably what I'm most looking forward to. Out of the prizes, I'd be most interested in the bottle of Kobe. Cheers.

  • Looking forward to my new apartment in June & my wedding in November. What better way to celebrate these with new fragrances?

  • Happy New Year to all my fragrant friends. There is one thing I wish for: a cure for epilepsy, all kinds of epilepsy. If I could put all my wishing energy into any one thing, it would be for this.

  • In 2011, I'm looking forward to exploring the indie perfumers! My New Year's resolution is two-fold: 1. no more un-sniffed bottle buying, and 2. get sample sets from all the best artisan perfumers (Anya included!).
Thanks for the draw—I'd LOVE Ambress 🙂
(really I'd be happy to win anything 😉

  • Extremely glad to learn of this community and the work people in it are doing.  So far my only experience with such scents has been via an Anya's Garden sampler, and it was a revelation. I can see that natural indie perfumers are the one's I'll be following.
