penhaligon's opus 1870 timothy dalton the scent of 007

Penhaligon's 1870  and Timothy Daltonas James Bond inThe Living Daylights

A brand that is over hundred  fifty years old is bound to have hidden gems;  perfumes that don't get much buzz on the blogs. Penhaligon's Opus 1870 (2005) is the equivalent of fragrant buried treasure. We welcome back Sebastian Jara of Looking Feeling Smelling Great, vlogger and founder of a popular Facebook Group. Since we are both big James Bond movies fans we think Opus 1870 is the perfect 007 scent for Timothy Dalton in The Living Daylights,  one of the lesser known, but fabulous James Bond flicks. Sebastian is a Penhaligon's fanboy (and hint… black pepper, yuzu, cinnamon and a wood dry down to "Live Another Day"for).

Love this fragrance and Sebastian always does an amazing job! My favorite bond is Daniel Craig.

  • Super-cool! My husband would love this! Craig and Connery are his favorite James Bonds. My hubby is mine. 🙂

US resident. Thank you for the draw!

  • I enjoy all of Sebastian’s videos. He’s great at breaking down a fragrance and providing a wonderful picture of what the fragrance smells like. This one has caught my eye. Truly sounds like a hidden jem. I would have to say that my favorite 007 is Pierce Brosnan. Thank you for this wonderful opportunity.

    Cheers

This would be an awesome fragrance to add to my collection. I’m fairly new so I’m still exposing myself to what’s out there, and this sounds great.

  • My favorite Bond is Timothy Dalton. I enjoyed the video – what did Sebastian say about compliments and non-obnoxious scents? It was amusing, so I should watch it again. I generally wear BIG fragrances but I love pepper, cinnamon and cedar and it’s nice to wear something quiet now and again. Sounds rather CdGish to me. In the US. Cheers!

  • Love Penhaligon’s fragrances. Have several and have only sampled this one. A great blend. A perfect rundown from Seb. Connery is my fave Bond.

  • bhaffar on YouTube says:

I like all of Sebastian’s videos because he knows what he’s talking about and has a good nose. Without a doubt Sean Connery made the best James Bond. Cheers!

  • I love 1870, as well as Juniper Sling. But Opus is definitely my top pick. I grew up watching Connery as Bond. He’s the only “real” Bond imo.

  • Sebastian always does a great job, he mentions a modern classic for mature guys type of fragrance. This reminds me of my favorite Bond man Sean Connery. Thanks for the giveaway!

  • I enjoyed Sebastian’s description as “classy and masculine”. He also caught my attention by saying this fragrance appealed to “guys that like fragrance but don’t want to stand out too much”. My favorite James Bond has to be Sean Connery.

  • Ross Katzenberg says:

I’ve never tried 1870, but it sounds great. I love Sebastian’s quality production and that black hat! My favorite bond is Rodger Moore circa A view to kill because he’s obviously too old, drunk and red faced for the role and he makes one of the campiest bond movie over the top hilarious. Pick me!

  • Love 1870 Opus from Penhaligon’s. This one is all about the woods at least to me, with a nice kick of incense and rose. Absolutely classy, no doubt about it ! A classic Bond Scent by all means. Favourite James Bond actor would have to be Roger Moore for me 🙂

    Cheers

  • I’m I. Such of the perfect work scent. And I was trusted Sebastian opinion. He’s definitely a legend in the fragrance community and I learn something from him every time I watch his reviews. I do have a few samples from this house and I’ll love to win this bottle. This house have a lot of class.

  • Always was a fan of Penhaligons never got to try any of their fragrances though. Would be amazing to win! Good luck all

  • Amazing house always wanted to try something from their house. Great review as always Sebastian! Good luck all

  • Great job on the review. I am always in the mood for a great work fragrance. I tend to gravitate towards deep fragrances but at work i love an uplifting light fragrance to carry me through the day. This has some of my favorite notes in it. Clove and cedar sign me up. Thank you for a good review. Penhaligons has quite a few great fragrances that hopefully will get more recognition. Roger Moore by far my favorite James Bond. In the USA.

  • I enjoyed Sebastians honest take on fragrance and the fact that classic fragrances such as this sometimes go without enough attention. Favorite Bond is definitely Sean Connery.

  • fazalcheema says:

From Sebastian’s review it seems Opus 1870 is pleasant but also not the kind people would wear for attention. in other words, those who wear it, wear it because they want to enjoy it themselves. My favorite Bond is Roger Moore even though I know Sean Connery is favorite of most. It is hard to explain but Roger Moore exhibited a certain kind of confidence that I have not seen in other actors. He came across as this calm and calculated person which suits Bond’s image. Thanks for the draw. i am in the US.

  • I love the concept of unsung perfume reviews. Nice change to hear a review and not just read it. I would love this big bottle on my shelf. No one but Connery. USA

  • Sebastian is one of my favorites fragrances reviewers on YouTube. He has a lot of passion and knowledge doing that. My favorite Bond is definitely Sean Connery.

  • I enjoy Sebastian’s reviews. He is always short and to the point, but with lots of good information. Also he is a cutie to watch! I have never tried Penhaligon’s. I looked on Luckyscent.com and it shows it as a unisex fragrance. I tend to go more toward the unisex than the feminine. So would love to try for myself, if not maybe my husband would like. I’m ‘old school’, so Sean of course. Thanks.

  • This one sounds very interesting! Sebastian always does an amazing job describing fragrances. I’d love to have something this under-the-radar in my collection.

  • BostonScentGuy says:

Love Penhaligon’s and this succinct review. Don’t need to enter the draw, since I’ve experienced Opus a fair amount. The brand has a lot of wonderful and subtle delights!

  • Gabriela Sanchez says:

I love how great Sebastian described in detailed the scents really great review could picture the smell pretty well on how you described. Subscribed YT preciosachynna
I really love how Pierce Brosnan did a great act on the James Bond Movie.

  • I love the description as “classic with a hint of the past”. Favorite bonds are almost the bookends….Connery and Craig:)

  • Donovan Reich says:

I would love to win this bad boy, it’s my next to buy from the Penhaligon’s house! Daniel Craig is my favorite Bond as my generation can relate more closely to his character. Thanks again for the chance and draw!

  • Eric meyers says:

Sebastian describes fragrances in a way that makes you want to buy them no matter what. Love the explanation of the dominant note usually a deciding factor wheather to purchase or not. Daniel Craig

  • I enjoyed that he has recommended Penhalogon over mainstream designer. My favorite Bond is Daniel Craig.

  • Sebastian never fails to get us intrigued in any fragrance and this from penhaligons is no different. I would love to get my hands on this one..

  • I like Penhaligon Bayolea and Sartorial and need to add Opus 1870 to my collection soon based on Sebastian’s review.
Connery is my favorite Bond although Craig is good too

  • bunchofpants says:

Sebastian looks like he smells great 😉 I love his conversational and down-to-earth approach to explaining fragrance, and he’s convinced me that Opus 1870 is worth a try … the cedar drydown sounds like something I would go for, because I love aromatic woods.

Daniel Craig is my favorite Bond. I’m in USA.

  • Wow I love Penhaligon’s fragrances. Sebastian always helping the fragrance community to discover new fragrances and thing related. I’m not a big fan of James Bond so I go with the classic Sean Connery.
    Thanks Sebastian and Cafleurebon.

  • Sebastian is a great reviewer that describes fragrances simple way and I like it. Simple explanation of the notes and what type person is focused.

    Roger Moore is my favorite.

  • Eric Moseley says:

sebastian is always on point with his reviews, thats why im an avid follower and the best 007 it has to be Daniel Craig for sure
    greetings

  • It has to the elegant Sean Connery for me. I enjoyed Sebastians review very much, the descriptions taking me to the point of a sensory experience. Thank you for this generous draw. Daniel Craig is also quite alluring in his own way as well. I an in the US.

  • Wow I wish I get this bottle. I like Daniel Craig, he’s more of my time.
I follow every reviewer on youtube and Sebastian is one of my favorites with Marc Robes08, Al, Dracdoc, Fragrance Bros and Redolessence. This is my dream team of fragrance reviewer.

Thanks to Penhaligon’s London and CafleureBon

  • Wonderful review Sebastian. I love pepper note as well I need to try this one . Daniel Craig is my favorite Bond .
    Thanks! USA

  • Nice giveaway . I like Sebastian , he’s always doing greats reviews of many different brands and he knows what he’s talking about cuz he has a big collection and have already experienced a lot of types of fragrances.
Sean Connery is the truly James Bond.

    Thanks from CA, USA

  • If I win this one I think I’ll gift it. Penhaligon is a great house in some ways unsung itself. Sebastian did I fine job describing as I sampled 1870 myself. I enjoyed the Robert Moore movies the most, more my era. 🙂 USA

  • This sounds great – I like how he qualifies it a a good office scent. I find that an overdone frag in the office can be truly miserable! I think Pierce Brosnan made a great Bond and has been sadly unappreciated!

  • Great job, Sebastian! I could mentally picture the harmonizing climax of the Cedarwood and Cinnamon, then having them gently linger mingling for the duration. Loved your review. There really is something about a woody scent mixed with enough spice that does require us to “Enjoy Another Day.” I am a Bond fan and yes loyal to Sir Sean Connery, my favorite Bond Man.. I am a US registered reader. I look forward to more of your Vlogs here on CaFleureBon.

  • Paramedica SP says:
