Tournament of Roses Reviews: Best Rose Perfumes + 8 Valentine’s Day Rose Fragrance Draw

Roses have been used for perfumery for thousands of years and is the flower most associated with romance and seduction. Cleopatra famously carpeted her boudoir with rose petals while entertaining Marc Antony, so he would always think of the Egyptian Queen anytime, anywhere he smelled a rose. Our fragrant world is scented with roses…they grow and are cultivated across the globe: Cabbage roses, musk roses, Rose de Mai, Centiflora, Damask roses, roses from Bulgaria, Turkey, Morroco and in our backyards.  Easy to distill, the precious oils and fragrant waters have been a mainstay in perfume composition from the beginning, and still are. Lately we have been noticing an upswing in popularity of rose perfumes, which we can’t see as anything but welcome. There is a rose fragrance for everyone…vintage, gourmand, photorealistic, soliflore, fruity, modern, sophisticated, jammy, chypre, Oriental, attar, powdery, green, laced with oud or insence and down right dirty. We decided to poll our staff to find out which rose fragrances are closest to our hearts.

Amber Rose  (2013) by Shay and Blue features Rose de Mai grown in Grasse and the delicious viscosity of dulce de leche, a South American drink made from a sweet reduction of condensed milk.  Shay and Blue's perfumer Julie Masse dodges the more typical archetypes of the note by verging deeply into gourmand territory. Amber Rose is a fitting name for the perfume because it truly is ambrosial and if like me your purchases are governed by your sweet tooth, there is a good chance it will drop you and your wallet where you stand.

My mother grew roses in Seattle’s perfect sandy soil when I was a child. Great eye candy but to me it was the unique smell of each variety that propelled my nose into the core of each flower. Roses in my opinion should either be real or very alien. Amouage Tribute Attar  (2009) celebrates a very rare, venerated rose raised solely in Saudi Arabia. I cannot say what the T'aifi rose smells like alone as the perfumer has wrapped it in the most exquisite packing paper of frankincense and leather and the result is one of my most treasured perfumes. Being totally natural and bereft of alcohol, this perfume grows deeper and more intense with each passing year. The smoke softens and the rose’s nuances of dark jam and blood unfold onto new discoveries with each wearing. It wears like the finest glove.

Guerlain's Nahema was created in 1979 and legend has it that Jean Paul Guerlain created it after seeing actress Catherine Deneuve in the movie Benjamin. That may be true, but the name means  sweetness in Africa and daughter of Fire in Arabic and the perfume is a combination of both (Nahema was a heroine in one of 10001 Nights by Scheherazade). Jean Paul Guerlain considers it one of his greatest achievements.  Nahema was made from multiple types of rose oils and absolutes of Rose De Mai and Rose Damascus.  Nahema starts with a brilliant green rosy, hyacinth and aldehydic top note,  as the mid notes unfurl a succulent accord of rose absolute, muguet, geranium, plums and peaches bloom.  As it dries down it becomes honey smooth and balsamic, with soft musk notes, sandalwood, slightly oriental.  Roses wrap around the Guerlinade accord but in such a different way that you really have to stop, sniff and let it settle to discern it. When it launched, it sold poorly; it was too forward for the time and pre dated fruity florals by 20 years! Vintage Nahema is richer and more complex than the current formulation ( it is best in the Parfum) but it is still is wonderful.

Etat Libre d'Orange's Rossy de Palma Eau de Protection (2009), composed by Antoine Lie and Antoine Maisondieu is my favorite rose because of the way it unfurls, proud and bold.  A deep red Bulgarian rose made three dimensional with the addition of jasmine, it offers a touch of danger with the zest of bergamot, ginger, and black pepper and rests on a bed of sweet, dark secrets (benzoin, incense, cacao and patchouli).  Like the actress it is named for, Rossy de Palma successfully straddles the line between in-your-face and enigmatic.

A special delivery of fragrances arrived from my CaFleureBon colleague, and FiFi-award winning perfumer Kevin Verspoor, who recently launched his PERFUMEKEV perfume line. His Rose 1902 Parfum gracefully nods and responds to  Coty's classic perfumery. Rose1902 (2014) is a lovely stylized rose whose olfactive lines move the fragrance in curvilinear lines reminiscent of Art Nouveau style. The rose we encounter in Rose 1902 begins green, bright, fresh, pushed and pulled by notes of spearmint, bergamot and lemon. At the same time precious Rose de Mai, Turkish and Bulgarian rose absolues and oils meet heady jasmine, along with orris create texture and fullness. This fullness gives way to a balsamic and slightly resinous base that seems to temper its floral heart and leads to a soft powdery and balanced resolve.

I usually take my rose perfumes deep, dark, and animalic, but Neela Vermiere Creations Mohur Eau de Parfum, composed by Bertrand Duchaufour (2011), made me involuntarily reconsider a muted palette that gives just as much complexity. Its immediate trail of cool spices, honeyed sweetness, and rose creates, dare I say, a perfect parfum. Mohur's beauty lies in its breathy rose that is lovingly cradled by notes of cardamom and coriander, and a sweetness reminiscent of Turkish Delight that brings a nutty, dried fruit, and gourmand aspect to the rose. Balancing this sweetness is a rose oud accord; the oud is almost invisibly placed, yet if it weren’t there the fragrance would be incapable of taking us closer to its destiny-Its olfactive home, India

In 2003, Stella McCartney debuted her first fragrance, Stella, composed by perfumer Jacques Cavallier. Inspired by the fragility of roses that are just about to shatter, the perfume is a masterful blend of rose and amber, and is one of my favorite sheer rose fragrances even after all these years of smelling a cavalcade of rose perfumes. It has an unexpected complexity, as you can smell not only the rose petals but a trace of leaf and bark as well. When people ask for recommendations for rose perfumes, I invariably chime in with Stella.

Perfumer Ineke Rühland launched a series of floral perfumes called Floral Curiosities for Anthropologie in 2011. One of the perfumes in this line is Briar Rose, which I fell for immediately. I tend to like rose perfumes that are either dewy and a bit innocent, or that have visible thorns. Briar Rose tends toward the thorny genre. It is loaded with piquant fruits and hot spices. This smells like roses that have been growing wild on an abandoned estate for a century, the gnarled braches still able to put forth the sweetest of blossoms. This perfume manages to be dark while still wearing fairly lightly, which makes it very easy to wear any time.

Rose used to be something I loved to see and receive, but not smell like. That is until I first smelled Le Labo’s Rose 31. Utilizing 31 ingredients, Daphne Bugey captured everything I love about this flower. Caraway in the top adds the perfect amount of spice to the scent of fresh petals. Branches of warm cedar and blades of vetiver writhe up the arbor alongside slightly sweaty rosebuds. This dapper, elegant composition maintains a hint of mysterious, animalic strength and aninviting aura into its finale, like a lover waiting to meet you holding a single red rose…just for you.

There are roses you see and admire for their beauty, elegance or perfection of form. Then, there are the roses you happen upon growing untamed and free, deep in the forest. Providence Perfume Company’s  All Natural Rose Bohème captures that eternal passion and spirit. A sultry pagan nymph of a flower that smells of the earth and the wood around her, this fragrance radiates wild abandon. Charna Ethier distilled a perfect blend of roses, both common and rare, using rooibos tea to add lushness and saffron for texture. Without smelling like a typical mukhallat, the finest tendrils of oud add a haunting smokiness to the flowers as they come to rest on a bed of patchouli and fir.

One of the first niche rose fragrances I bought was Rose Ta'if by Ormonde Jayne. It was released in 2004 and only available at the shop in London. Linda Pilkington kindly sent me a sample for an article I was writing at the time, and from first sniff I was and still am smitten. I know it is ridiculous to think that this is more a brunette's perfume than a blonde's and I am sure going to hear it from our blonde readers (remember the hair color you were born with first), but the warm, voluptuous quality of this amber tinged rose is more Dame Elizabeth Taylor than Princess Grace Kelly. Tumultous and tempermental, with an edgy combination of spicy saffron and sweet dates afloat in a orange blossom scented sea, Rose Ta'if is a "dessert rose" not a desert rose. If you want to blend in at a party, this is not the perfume to wear…it is audacious, opulent and sweeps into a room like the star it is.

There are certain Fragrance Houses that suit my chemistry and my sensibilties and Parfums M. Micallef is one of them. Not  only does Perfumer Jean Claude Astier seem to have my number perfume wise but Martine Micallef's artistic bottles fulfill my love of all things blingy.  Royal Rose Aoud (2012)  opens with a BIG bosomy Bulgarian rose dipped in the most decadent white chocolate note I have smelled in a long time. Creamy sandalwood and saffron make their entrance surrounded by delectable fruits. I start singing the chorus from West Side Story's "I Feel Pretty" just about mid way through the heart notes of soft white flowers. There is a hint of oud/ agarwood, perfectly mannered and never overpowering. If you want to feel as if you are lolling around in a rich sultan's harem  give this Turkish delight a try.

  • Gorgeous choices! Loving the variety, and the mention of the ELdO which goes very unnoticed. The Shay and Blue sounds gorgeous, and a line I’ve not explored at all (and seems to still be very low and in the know if you get what I mean) – need to read more about these.
I’ve always been toying over getting Ta’If by Ormonde Jayne but always forget about it, then I rediscover that papery, peppery opening and realise how much I need it again.
The Micallef and Le Labo also are two I have never tried and must (and houses I haven’t explored properly!) D:
    Great post, love choices <3

  • Victoria Austin says:

Ahhhhh….so many rose fragrances and so little time to discover and wear them all! Love so many and you’ve covered many of them here. I love the way Michelyn thinks about Ormonde Jayne Ta’if being a rose fragrance for us brunettes and in the vein of Elizabeth Taylor! I will be thinking that thought the next time I wear it!

  • What a beautiful post about roses! I enjoyed every single bit of it especially Cleopatra scenting her boudoir with rose petals and laughed out loud with Michelyns comment about Taif being a brunnetes perfume! All of the offered perfumes are so lovely but my choices are Mohur, Taif , Rosy due Palma and Amber rose. Thank you!

  • What a lovely article! I enjoyed reading everyone’s recommendations for rose scents (and must admit that a lot of these I’ve never heard of, but loved reading about). My choice (s) would be Rose Ta’if from Ormonde Jayne or Rose Boheme by Providence Perfume Co. I’m in MI (USA) Thanks for the fantastic read and the draw-good luck everyone!

  • I love this piece because you had some many contributors to it. The voices were different as were their approaches but their descriptions– though diverse- were perfection!
I love either the Le Labo or Rossy de Palma version

  • Fantastic choices and so nice to see nahema and Stella mentioned
I enjoyed everyone reviews and loved Valerie description of Kevin vers poor new perfume rose 1902 and Michelyn review of Ormonde rose ta if as a brunette perfume David really hit it with the amouage
my choices are le labo rose 31 and rose t’aif for my wife who is a stunning brunette She might like royal rose aooud too oh add Rossy
great artwork and love the nick knight painting

  • ROSES ROSES ROSES every varietal of rose smells differently. just as every rose perfume smells differently too. Sophia Grojsman has utilized rose in such a creative manner in her perfumes. Paris Y.S.L. seems so light but has one of the best sillage of any perfume made. also her creation of .360 for Perry Ellis is an AMAZING rose perfume that feels like the diffusion silk ribbons

Carons’ Nuit de Noel and N’aimez que moi give life to rose in ways that are truly unexpected and equally as beautiful.

I love to visit the rose gardens at the Brooklyn Botanical Garden when they are in full bloom they have thousands of varieties it is like it is an olfactive experience not to be missed do it at least once in your life, you won’t regret it.

  • What a great article! Being a guy I love to wear them and I have some in my collection, I really love the variety that is on the selection from niche like Neela Vermeire Mohur and Le Labo Rose 31 to the mainstream Stella and Nahema, it is the most amazing flower to wear, love every single one of the selections.
I am in the US and my choices are Ormonde Jayne Rose Ta’if, Mohur, Rossy de Palma and Rose Boheme. Thanks

  • Did not know so many different types of rose perfumes existed so this article was an eye opener!

loved the description of Rossy sure Palms, Mohur, Briar Rose and Rose Boheme, think I have to try get some samples of these if possible.

Am from Hyderabad, India and would love to win the Royal Rose Oud (eager to see Micallef’s take on the classic Rose and Oud combo of attars). Ormondo Jayne’s Rose Ta’if also sounds very interesting…never got around to smelling this famous rose yet and would be nice to experience.

am a guy but I love rose perfumes specially when rose is used in attars, heady and intoxicating 🙂

  • So fascinating that there are so many different rose fragrances. I too grow some roses and it amazes me when they bloom and the variety of them. I have one that is a very deep clove and the rose itself is a midnight purple. Then I have one that smell just like lemons. The Amouage Attars are to die for. My first rose that I fell in love with is Andy Tauers newish PHI Une Rose de Kandahar. Stunning is Tom Ford’s Noir de Noir as my first purchase. It seem hard for a guy to pull of a rose but I’m coming out of my shell and saying to hell with it, “I LOVE ROSES!!!” Everyone did an excellent job on their descriptions.
I believe I would choose Le Lebo Rose 31, Micallef Royal Rose Oud and a pick for Mom Ta’if Ormande Jayne.

  • I’ve been enjoying exploring rose perfumes recently. Rose is a note that can create so much variety in perfumery, as these reviews illustrate. My selections would be Ormonde jayne’s Ta’if, Amber Rose from Shay and Blue, and Le Labo’s Rose 31. (I’m in the US)

  • Frankly, I didn’t realize that roses could be presented so many ways… everything from bright and green to dark and seductive. Rose Ta’if and Royal Rose Aoud sound amazing,

I’m a US Resident – thanks for the draw!

  • I never tire of the allusion to Cleopatra’s rose strewn boudoir! And I would love a print of that Nahema ad. I’m so tired of stupid celebrity faced perfume ads.
There is not a rose listed I wouldn’t love to have, but my first choice (since I’m not EU–love you, Mahur!) would be the Micallef Rose Oud. They all sound very lovely, though, and I would love to try any of them. Thanks to the perfumers for some wonderful gifts.

  • Michelyn stating that Ta’if is the rose fragrance for brunettes made me chuckle, I definitely love that one and I am not a brunette. I also love the Collage by Max Ososki I would frame that and hang in my home. I personally have loved rose based fragrances ever since I can remember and I have several loves. I also love that roses come in all different sort of types, from the bright to the fresh, dark and sensuous and even paired with Oud so often in middle eastern perfumery. I am in the US and would love to be entered for the Le Labo Rose 31 and even more so for the Shay and Blue Amber Rose. Thank you so much for this fabulous draw.

  • love the review of different rose scents! I would love to experience the subtle fragrance of different blends of roses and that would be an indulgence! Amber Rose would be my choice!

  • Yessssssssssssss! This is awesome! Thank you for this great Valentine’s draw! I loved reading the opinions of all of these contributors. I appreciated John Reasinger’s information on, and review of Le Labo’s Rose 31, because I am the most curious about that fragrance. I also enjoyed Valerie Lee Vitale’s review of the sweet and soft Mohur. Also, Michelyn’s description of Ormonde Jayne’s Rose Ta’if. My choices are:

    Le Labo Rose 31
100ml EDP of Royal Rose Aoud
    Neela Vermeire Creations Mohur EDP

but really, I’d be thrilled to have any of them.

I live in the US. Thanks so much, again!!

  • Elizabeth T. says:

What an amazing draw, thank you! I love the phrase in the Ta’if review… “an edgy combination of spicy saffron and sweet dates afloat in a orange blossom scented sea.” I live in the USA and would love any of these, but I think Ta’if would be my top pick, followed by Amber Rose or Rose 31. Thanks again!

  • Great article!! Always nice to read articles about new perfumes or perfumes I don’t have experience with. Always interested in discovering new rose dominant fragrance.

  • I love roses, and I love how many different ways they can be presented in a perfume! I also like to see how people’s tastes differ, and I am always looking for new rose perfumes to try. I am in the US, and I would love to win Ormonde Jayne Ta’if , Micallef Royal Rose Oud, Rossy de Palma Eau de Protection from Etat Libre D’Orange or Le Labo Rose 31. Thanks for the draw!

  • Roses roses everywhere! Some fantastic ones represented in this tournament. The scent of roses is not sexist at all mix it with something edible and everything goes out the window wafting.. I’m thinking I could go for a BIG bosomy Rose dipped 😉 so Royal Rose Aoud is a choice followed by one that sounds very intriguing indeed Kevin’s Rose 1902. Thanks to the generous sponsors in this fabulous tournament. Thanks to you all for sharing your love of Rose perfumes.

  • leathermountain says:

The photographs in this article really tell a story of many different strands. I was agog.

I live in the US, and I would love to win Kevin Verspoor’s soon to be released perfume Rose 1902, Amber Rose from Shay and Blue, Royal Rose Aoud by Parfums Micallef, Le Labo Rose 31, Rose Boheme from Providence Perfume Co, or Rose Ta’if from Ormonde Jayne, roughly in that order.

Thank you so much and a very happy Valentine’s Day!

  • I love how this article featured rose perfumes from many houses! It is a note that scares me, however, I think I would really adore Shay and Blue’s Amber Rose the most, seconded by Micallef’s Royal Rose Aoud! I live in the USA!

  • I resonated with John’s comment about not wanting to smell like roses. At least, I used to not want to; I didn’t think I could ever wear a rose-centered perfume. But after a lot of sniffing and learning, I’ve completely changed my mind. I’d be thrilled to win any of these perfumes, but if forced to choose, I’d go with Rose 31, Rossy de Palma Eau de Protection, Amber Rose, or Rose 1902. I’m in the US; thanks for the draw!

  • Carole Fallon says:

Rose perfumes really run a gamut in that one genre – sounds like we are really in a rose revival!
I would just love Briar Rose, Micallef Royal Rose Oud, Stella or Shay and Blue’s Amber Rose.

  • Rose is one of my favorite flowers–I have four varieties currently growing in my garden, all with very different physical and aromatic characteristics and I enjoy their uniqueness. I love to make teas, oils/creams, and to cook with them as well as to wear them and use them to add a sometimes subtle, sometimes powerful fragrance to my home.

I truly enjoyed this element in the reviews here: the unabashed enjoyment of the different aspects of rose fragrances, the numerous facets that can be revealed by altering either the variety/accord of rose used and/or the supporting notes. Fabulous! I was also gratified to see one of my favorites–INeKE Briar Rose–included in the list.

I am in the US and would appreciate Rose Ta’if, Amber Rose, Mohur, or Rose Boheme. Thank you for the draw!

  • Rose can be so confusing and overwhelming sometimes, but also intriguing. Deep, dark roses, sweet candy, jammy roses, fresh and green. So many unique roses, I find myself loving it in many fragrances. I truly think there is a rose scent for everyone, it can just take some hunting! Loved the articles in depth look at so many roses, some I had not heard of. I’m on the USA, I’d love to try Rose Ta’if, Amber Rose, Rose 31. Thank you for a wonderful article.

  • ‘Very excited to learn about the PERFUMEKEV perfume line and the new Rose 1902 Parfum. I would be interested in Amber Rose, Briar Rose, Rose Boheme, Rose 31 and of course, Rose 1902. I live in the US.

  • To me, rose fragrances offer so much variety and that can be attributed to the versatility of the note itself. Personally, I have tried many types of rose scents, few mentioned in the reviews and others I have never even heard of. One of the benefits of reading reviews such as this, is that it allows me to learn about the different variety that exists. I have always been intrigued by the scent of rose 31 and John Reasinger does a nice job at describing its aspects; i believe every perfume should hold some mysterious facet – its what makes the person smell unique and intriguing.

I am interested in Rose 31, Rose Ta’if, Royal Rose Aoud, Amber Rose, Rossy de Palma Eau de Protection, Rose 1902, Mohur, Rose Boheme, or InEke Briar Rose

  • So love rose and I am starting to amass a nice collection of rose scents thanks to articles like this one. I can practically smell each scent from the beautiful descriptions and images! I would love to own a bottle of Providence Perfume Rose Boheme because I love all of Charna’s work! My second choice would be Rose Ta’if by Ormonde Jayne because I’m a tad Tumultous and temperamental too! I’m in the U.S.
Thanks and wishing you all a very loving Valentine’s Day!

  • I enjoyed reading all the different interpretations using rose, particularly the different spices that combine so beautifully with it.
I’m in the US and would love to try any of these: InEke Briar Rose, Le Labo Rose 31, Amber Rose from Shay and Blue, Rose Ta’if, or Royal Rose Aoud. Thanks for the amazing draw!

  • i love david falsberg’s comment that rose “should be real or very alien” & then goes on to discuss amouage’s tribute attar. because “AKafkaesqueLife” has called tribute the rose that darth vader would wear!! i live in the states, & if i got lucky enough to win i’d choose le labo’s rose 31 or rose boheme. thank you for the drawing!

  • I enjoyed John Reasinger’s reviews of Rose 31 and Rose Boheme. I tend to agree that, while I enjoy the flower, it’s not my favorite flower to smell like. I just don’t think I have found THE rose for me yet and that’s why Rose 31 and Rose Boheme would be my choices. Oh and Briar Rose sounds interesting too!
I’m in the US. Thanks for the draw!

  • I thought I hated rose frangrances (though I love the flowers) until I tried Tauer’s Une Rose Chypree, which really surprised me! So now I’m looking for any rose that has spice or darkness in it. I liked the back ground on the tale of Naheme and I wish I had the whole story featuring the two princesses from the 1001 Arabian Nights. I’d love to be entered for the
Royal Rose Aoud by Parfums Micallef, and for Ormonde Jayne Ta’if (even though i’m a blond 😉 I’m Canadian. Thanks for the great rose ideas!

  • I loved the review. Most rose scents are too sickly or too old ladyish for me. Glad to see there is more variety. I would love to try Labo Rose 31. The cedar intrigues me!

  • Wow, what a fantastic draw, thank you! I adore rose perfumes anyway, and reading this makes me want more!

I was struck by how many different aspects of rose there are to discern, and how each reviewer picked out the unique quality of each perfume. Even for one flower, the possibilities are infinite!

I am torn between the Micallef Royal Rose Aoud -roses and white chocolate sounds like a dream! – and the Rose 1902, because I have smelled the Eighties re-creation of La Rose Jacqueminot and it was incredible. Either one would make me very happy!

  • I love how everyone described their rose scents. Each one so literal, it was as if the fragrance materialized right before my nose.

I would like to receive Rose 1902 or Rose Ta’if as a prize if I win.

Im in the USA and thanks for the draw.

  • What a beautiful post about roses! I enjoyed every single bit of it! I love rose scents. In my opinion Neela Vermeire has one of the best houses and I love every one of her perfumes.
My choice would be Ormonde Jayne Ta’if. She has a lovely discovery set and you can try all her scents. One of my favorites of the collection was Ta’if.

  • I enjoyed reading all the rose reviews: so evocative, I could smell the roses! Particularly liked David Falsberg’s rose preference of real or alien. An alien rose sounds like fun.

If I were fortunate to win, I would choose Rose 1902 (very keen on this one!); Shay and Blue Amber Rose, Rose 31. I live in the U.S.

  • Rose is not my favorite note, or rather, I never found my perfect rose. I like the component more green and fresh in that flower, therefore among those proposed by you, the one that attract me is Kevin Verspoor’s Rose 1902.
I’m in EU, Thanks for the draw!

  • I love the reviews – there are several that I will seek out.

My absolute favorite rose – which I have not yet bought because of the price – is M Micallef Rose Extreme. I am probably going to sell my Rose scents (Amouage Lyric man, Le Labo Rose, etc) to finance it.

I like in the US – and if I am lucky enough to win, I would love the Micallef Rose Aoud.

  • Great article! I couldn’t find a good rose fragrance in mass market stores. The description of the scents fitured here is very interetsing, I’d love to try!
    I’m worldwide and US reader.
Woud love to have Royal Rose Aoud, Rose Ta’if from Ormonde Jayne, Rose Boheme by perfumer Charna Ethier

  • Really great article, about a topic that I Absolutely LOVE : Roses.
Your reviews are, as always, very instructive and colorful. The tab with your blog is always open on my Firefox page…
My absolute favorite from the perfumes above is Mohur, closely followed by Ta’if.
Oh what a fantasticl draw ! How I would like to win one of them!
Thank you for the chance, You are wonderful!!!
    Love, Gentiana

  • I love the way you’ve described each of these, especially the description for Rose Ta’if by Ormonde Jayne, and Amber Rose by Shay and Blue. Rose is a note that I find difficult to wear, but your reviews convinced me that there MUST be a few out there for me! I love gourmands, and these two sound like they have some of the gourmand notes I love. I live in the US, and I would love to win ANY of them!

  • What I love about those reviews of rose centric fragrances is that each of you chose a perfume that is a totally different rose than the others so it’s a really wide variety to chose from 🙂

I will try my chances on Micallef Royal Rose Aoud, OJ Rose Ta’if, Shay and Blue Amber Rose, Kevin Verspoor’s Rose 1902, Le Labo Rose 31 and NVC Mohur.

    I live in Poland
Thank you to Cafleurebon and all the sponsors of these fabulous rose perfumes

  • I loved the way everybody talks about this wonderful scent. Reading about Tribute Attar that it is like wearing the finest glove or that Rose Ta’if is is more a brunette’s perfume than a blonde’s….. wonderful!
I own some rose scents and I would be happy if I had RoseTaif of Ormonde Jayne.
    I’m in Europe.

  • The wide variety of rose perfumes amongst the editors’ choices made me smile on this dreary Monday morning… Rose scents were never my cup of tea until a simple tea rose combo made me fall in love with this gorgeous scent. The conclusion is that somewhere somehow, there is a rose(rose perfume ) for everyone..
I would love to win Le Labo’s Rose 31, Neela Vermeire’s Mohur or Kevin Verspoor’s much anticipated Rose 1902..I live in France..
Merci for this article and draw.

I enjoyed every piece and picture of this wonderful post. There can surely never be enough rose perfume’s.
My choice would be Mohur, I am from the EU

  • Lovely article and amazing photos! I love how Guerlain came up with the name for Nahema (it seems in the same vein as it came up with the name of its other classics.
One year ago I thought I didn’t like rose. It took one or two special perfumes to convince me otherwise, so there really is a rose for everyone.

My choices would be Mohur, Kevin Verspoor’s Rose 1902, OJ Rose Ta’if, Le Labo Rose 31, Rossy de Palma, Micallef Royal Rose Aoud, and Shay and Blue Amber Rose,

I am in the EU. Thank you for the draw!

  • meganinstmaxime says:

I love roses as they paint such varied hues and can be spiced up, sweetened, chocolate addled and of course jewell like with oud. I’m a bit embarrassed that I’ve only tried the Ormonde Jayne from this list but am dying to try Nahema as soon as I can find a tester of it. I’m in the EU and would be stoked to win any of the EU rose perfumes but would love Ta’if, Rossy or Mohur. Thanks for draw.

  • I adore rose perfumes and your article brilliantly shows the versatility of rose in perfumery. From the wide selection of rose-based fragrances, one can see the rose’s many facets. It can be green, fresh and dewy and yet in other perfumes, it an be dark and jammy. I cannot get enough rose!

I’d love to win either OJ Rose Ta’if, Le Labo, Royal Rose Aoud, Rossy de Palma or Kevin’s Rose 1902.

I’m in Canada. Thanks for the draw.

  • Fabulous reviews. I really liked the variety; In the run up to VD everyone talks and writes about the romantic rose, soit’s very refreshing to read something different.
I’m in the EU and my choices are Le Labo’s rose, Etat libre d’Orange’s Rossy de Plama, Shay and Blue’s Aber rose, Ormonde Jayne’s Ta’if and Neela Vermeeras Mohur.

  • Thank you for the review! I must say, the topic was really timely… I’ve been looking at some of the rose perfumes for Valentine’s day 🙂 I always love reading your reviews, just following the words, I can almost smell them.
I’m in the EU and my choices are Royal Rose Aoud, Rose Ta’if, Amber Rose, Rose 1902 or Mohur EDP.

  • maysamassimo says:

Hi! I really liked the attention you gave to Nahema, the ultimate rose fragrance and an influence for all the others. I’m in the US and my choices would be Neela Vermeire Creations – Mohur EDP, Ta’if from Ormonde Jayne, Amber Rose from Shay and Blue, Rossy de Palma Eau de Protection from Etat Libre D’Orange and Ineke Briar Rose. Thanks!

  • I enjoyed being reminded there are many types/kinds of roses with differing smells. USA
Draw choices – Le Labo Rose 31, Rossy de Palma Eau de Protection

  • I enjoyed the art combined with all of your favorites, reading about new to me roses and seeing the love for old favorites like Nahema and especially Stella, which I feel is often overlooked in the avalanche of newer roses. I’m pleased to read about Rose 1902 and it’s one of my choices, along with Rose Boheme, Mohur & Rossy de Palma Eau de Protection. Thanks for another spectacular draw, I’m in the US.

  • Great choices and congratulations to Kevin on his new perfume line. I would love to win amber rose, royal rose oud, rose taif because I too am a brunette, and briar rose. I enjoyed the variety of roses and the reviews were beautiful. I loved Valerie’s and Nancy for their evocative nature and Michelyn for her humour and spot on descriptions. Would love to loll around !
    Us reader

  • Ahh roses so beautiful to look at and so difficult to wear
Everyone did such a beautiful review that I want them all
For briar rose Tama wrote such a lovely image of a rose growing on an abandoned estate
For nahema I did not know it was inspired by Catherine deneuve
For ormonde Jayne the description was a wonderful mix of humor -a brunettes perfume and poetry floating on a orange blossom scented sea
Amouage tribute loved that roses should smell real or alien
I am in the US and would choose
Briar rose taif amber rose royal rose Aoud rose 31and rose Boheme
A shame mohur isn’t offered to us but I am grateful for all that is

  • I love rose. Nahema is for Catherine Denevue, I never knew. I would love to try Rossy de palma, & Briar Rose. Thanks for the draw.

  • I am a teacher so I enjoyed the comment
” “dessert rose” not a desert rose” for the Ormonde Jyane section. I would love any to try but the play on words with that was fun.

  • When I started making potpourris in the ’70’s, roses became a favorite flower of mine. They became the basis for most of my compositions – sometimes whole opened, dried heads, sometimes perfectly dried buds, sometimes just masses of dried petals – or a mix of all of the above. Always beautifully saturated color and most of the time, very fragrant. They always mixed so well with whatever I would combine them with. I have many favorite perfumes based on rose too. but reading about the Shay & Blue Amber Rose here really interested me. I don’t think I’ve ever sniffed a gourmand rose scent before! My choices for this wonderful draw would be for the Shay & Blue Amber Rose or the Micallef Royal Rose Oud. I live in the US.

  • I have just learned to appreciate roses and am looking forward to trying many of these because the presentation sounds so unique. I would love to win Royal Rose Aoud, Rose Ta’if, Amber Rose, Rossy de Palma, Rose 1902, Rose Boheme, or Briar Rose. I really enjoyed Tama’s description of Stella because it was describing a sensation I also got but couldn’t put into words (the roses shattering), and I loved Michelyn’s nod to my favorite femme fatale brunette, Elizabeth Taylor.

  • I loved reading about all of the different approaches to making a rose perfume and even though I’ve tried many there a few new ones described that piqued my interest enough to search for samples. I am in the U.S. and would be most interested in Rossy de Palma, Rose 31, and Rose Boheme. Thanks for the draw!

  • I loved hearing about Cleopatra’s carpet of roses! I am in the US and would love Briar Rose, Le Labo Rose 31 or Mohur. Thanks!

  • There are so many rose fragrances !! Perfume preferences say so much about about a person , so this is what I find interesting about the article . Getting to know each of you by your choices ! And the soon to be released Rose 1902 sounds positively ravishing – I WANT IT . Well because I love La Rose Jaqueminot…I live in the US so this would be my first choice , and then Le Labos’s lovely Rose 31 .
My favorite rose fragrance ( though you didn’t ask ) is The Pink Room No 1 by the late Guy Robert , his last creation . Such a fresh, young rose that makes me sigh each time I wear it . Happy Valentine’s Day ALL .

  • Goodness, some of these description I can actually see the thorns wrapped around the scent or the smoldering smoke coming from the rose itself. The Amouage Tribute Attar that David Falseberg describes sound like my kind of fragrance but sadly is not in the drawing. May have to search for this one on my own. I also like John Reasinger’s description of Le Lebo Rose 31 with all the ingredients and animalism strength also sound very appealing. Rose is an amazing note in perfumery and would like to explore this avenue for myself.
I would start of by choosing Le Lebo Rose 31, then onto Mohur, possibly Royal Rose Aoud and lastly Rose Boheme. In the USA. Thanks once again.

  • I loved reading the descriptions and all the types of and ways that roses are used in perfumery. I would love to win Le Labo Rose 31 (#2), Mohur(#1), Ta’if, (#3) Briar Rose, Rossy de Palma, Royal Rose Oud, and Rose 1902. I live in the US. Thank you!

  • Very interesting Rose choices. It was fun reading everybody’s take on them. I always discover a new aspect of a fragrance that I didn’t notice before. Loved Nahema’s review. One of the few roses I deeply love.

I live in US. My first choice is OJ Rose Taif. Rose 31 and Mohur after.

  • Nice reviews. I was most drawn to the Tribute Attar and its description and I’ve not tried it yet, or any of the Amouage attars.. However I love Rose 31, it’s truly a masterpiece of a fragrance.
I’d like to win in order or preference Mohur, Rose 31, Rose Ta’if, Amber Rose, Rossy de Palma, Royal Rose Aoud and Rose 1902.
    I’m in the EU, ty

  • I love rose perfumes even I don’t wear them very often, but this evebing my scent is going to be Nahema thanks to Kevin Verspoor’s review.
I like the sentence that there’s a rose for everybody: vintage, gourmand, photorealistic, soliflore, fruity, modern, sophisticated, jammy, chypre, Oriental, attar, powdery, green, with oud, insence , dirty. …. For me now, please , the vintage Nahema rose. Thank you.
I’m in Spain and I would like Mohur or Rose Ta’if.

  • I like how the article highlights so many different directions rose perfumes can go. I’m in the US and interested in Royal Rose Aoud, Le Labo, Rose Ta’if, and Briar Rose.

  • They all sound so appealing! But I loved the description of Rose Boheme, very evocative. I’m in the US and would like Royal Rose Aoud, Rose 31, Mohur, or Rose Boheme.

  • I have a bottle of the Le Labo Rose 31 and adore it. Definitely up there with my favorite rose frags. I have tested Rose T’aif and Rossy de Palma, but they don’t work as well on me. I’m in the USA and would love to try Rose 1902, Ineke Briar Rose and the Rose Boheme.

  • I enjoyed reading the whole article but what I found really interesting was the story of Nahema another Guerlain perfume, the meaning of the name Naherma and that the initial perfume was ahead of its time (what masterpieces Jean Paul Guerlain did with his art).
I live in the EU and my choices are Royal Rose Aoud, Rose Ta’if, Amber Rose from Shay and Blue, Rossy de Palma Eau de Protection, Rose 1902, Le Labo Rose 31, Neela Vermeire Creations Mohur.

  • Alex had me at his description of rose and dulce de leche – yum! I live in the US, and my choices would be Royal Rose Aoud, Ta’if, Amber Rose, Rossy de Palma, or Mohur. Thanks!

  • I found the little story behind Nahema’s craetion very interesting. I quite enjoy a few movies of Catherine Deneuve, but I have never seen Benjamin. Now, both are on my “to see”/”to test” list!

I would love to win either Royal Rose Aoud or Rose 31.

    Thank you very much!

  • What a wonderful article with such beautiful descriptions! I have been a lover of rose scents for a long time and always enjoy new discoveries. I love learning the stories behind the creations of these gorgeous sounding scents. I live in the US and I would love an opportunity to win either the Rose Ta’if or the Royal Rose Aoud.

  • Beautifully written article on one of my favorite flowers! Iam lucky to be able to wear most rose perfumes! I enjoyed reading this article it shows how truly multifaceted the rose can be. I live in the US and would love to try the rose ta’if, rose 31 or Mohur. Thanks–Tati

  • What a great article!! I always thought that I did not like rose when it came to perfume but since learning more about notes and trying many very well done fragrances I have changed my mind.My favorite part of this article is the photographs chosen to go with each fragrance – gorgeous!! I reside in the US and would be thrilled to win either Le Labo rose 31,Ineke Briar Rose,Amber Rose by Shay and Blue or Rossy De Palma by ELDO.This is such a wonderful draw to celebrate the rose and Valentine’s Day – I would be honored and grateful to have any of these in my collection.Thank you so much and Happy Love Day to you all <3

  • I love rose perfumes and what a great showcase of the ways it can be used. So versatile and so many moods. I’m in the US and would love any of the fragrances I’m eligible for. Thank you and Happy Valentines Day!

  • I love the great coverage of a very wide set of interpretations of rose and the many options available. I’m in the US and will be thrilled to get any of the fragrances available.

  • Roses roses.. i like it. Beautiful pictures in the article as always. For me best of roses in Rive Gauche by YSL.
I’m in Russia and my choice is Royal Rose Aoud or Rose Ta’if. Thanks for the opportunity.

  • Rose has really grown on me as I have gotten older. Didn’t appreciate it at a younger age, but now I realize I like some spice added to my rose. I now understand how versatile the scent can be. I am in the U.S. and I would be excited to win Ineke’s Briar Rose, Mohur, and Rose Ta’if. Thanks to all and Happy Valentine’s Day.

  • I didn’t know that Catherine Deneuve was the inspiration for Nahema! She is an absolute beauty and I can smell Jean Paul Guerlain’s muse in his creation.

My preferences are Rose 1902, Rose Ta’if, or Rossy de Palma. I am in the US. Thanks!

  • I enjoyed all of the specifics given for so many different rose perfumes in this article, and I learned some things, too (such as finding out that Rose Boheme has a rooibos tea note and Royal Rose Aoud has white chocolate). If a winner, I would like any of the following: Le Labo Rose 31, InEKe Briar Rose, Kevin’s Rose 1901, Rose Ta’if by Ormonde Jayne or Amber Rose by Shay and Blue. I am in the US.

  • This is such a terrific article! I have been rose obsessed this past year and loved reading theses reviews. For me, roses brings back so many memories from bouquets I have received in the past celebrating milestones, or just given as an expression of love.
Thank you to these sponsors for their generous offerings!
My choices are Rose Boheme, Mohur, Rose Ta’if, and Royal Rose Aoud. Happy Valentine’s Day!

  • Roses, so classic and I think always beautiful, no matter what the fashion is. I prefer green roses, but I have many to try, especially Etat Libre d’Orange, as lately I like everything I have sampled. I live in the US and would chose Rose Ta’if, Rossy de Palma Eau de Protection or Le Labo’s Rose 31. Thanks for the draw.

  • As with all of these types of post, I most enjoy the variety of favorites! From classical Nahema to what I consider a post-modern non-rose rose, i.e.. Le Labo Rose 31. Yes, I know John says it smells like everything he loves about the flower – but I firmly believe that there is nothing rosy about the scent, other than its name!

I live in South Africa and would adore Royal Rose Aoud by Micallef:)

  • I have never been a rose girl. I loved to read and imagine these smelling wonderful on me.
My USA choices are Le Labo Rose 31, Ormonde Jayne Rose Ta’if, EDLO Rossy D Palma, and Rose Boheme. Thank you!

  • I’ve never had a lot of love for rose, in perfumes, anyway – the green, lush scent of the uncurling wild rose petals in my grandmother’s garden were always entrancing. I like the way the review considered many different moods and facets of rose, and the characterizations based both on the personalities of the scents and the personalities of the writers. Made me want to smell some rose perfumes!

I would be thrilled to try any of these:
    1. Le Labo Rose 31
    2. Etate Libre D’Orange Rossy de Palma
    3. Shay & Blue Amber Rose

  • I enjoyed reading about all the varieties of rose fragrances. I live alaska, USA. Please enter me in the draw for
    1. Le Labo Rose 31
    2. Rose Boheme
    3. Rose 1901 and
    4. Royal Rose Aoud

  • Someotherspring says:

Super selection of rose fragrances, thank you! I LOVED reading about different varieties of roses…it led me to further online research, and then to a shop to get 2 new absolutes (Bulgarian and Turkish). I’m in the US, and would feel so very lucky if I were able to try any of these:

    1. Le Labo’s Rose 31
    2. Guerlain’s Nahema
    3. Etat Libre d’Orange’s Rossy de Palma Eau de Protection
    4. PERFUMEDEKEV’s Rose 1902

  • Such a wide spectrum of rose scents on review. Was never much of a rose fan myself, but I had the pleasure of smelling vintage Nahema. Amber Rose, and Royal Rose Aoud sound like roses up my alley, gourmand scents… yummy.

I would like to win either Royal Rose Aoud or Ti’af. I’m from Singapore

  • I have found it very interesting, that Cleopatra carpeted her boudoir with rose petals. I love reading about different incredients of scents. It was nice to learn more about the different roses!

I live in Germany and would be very happy to try some of these:

    1. Rose 31

    2. Royal Rose Aoud
    3. Rose Ta’if
    4. Amber Rose

  • I enjoyed reading about different kinds of roses and I also found the story of Nahema very interesting.

I live in Europe and I would like to win either Rose 31 or Royal Rose Aoud.

    Thanks!

  • Fazal Cheema says:

There are lot of interesting facts such as rose used in Tribute is from Saudi Arabia and how Nahema was inspired
by Catherine Deneuve. I have Nahema in parfum form though newer formula and wonder how it is
in vintage formula. Another interesting fact is that Etat Libre Rossy has been inspired by an actress.

    my choices are
    1. Ormonde Jayne Rose Ta’if
    2. Le Labo Rose 31
    3. Parfums Micallef Royal Rose Aoud

    I am in the US

  • Rose perfumes are my favorite so I am eager to explore the writers recommendations. I own and love rose 31 but it’s really cumin and not much rose Real or very alien was a great line as was more Elizabeth Taylor than grace Kelly for rose taif , since I am blonde by choice I will agree.

  • Great article
I adore roses but like many I have trouble wearing them especially the powdery roses
All sound great and I enjoyed how different the favorites from each writer are
    Nahema is beautiful
Since I don’t own many rose perfumes I would welcome all
Rose Boheme ,amber rose , rose 31, rossy de palma, rose 1902. Mohur,
Royal rose auod or rose taif
    They all sound gorgeous
    Happy valentines day

  • Your reviewers have shown clearly how wonderful and versatile the rose is. I particularly enjoyed David Falsberg’s account of Amouage Tribute Attar. I swear I can smell it now even though I have never had the good fortune to try it. I also agree with the description of Ta’if as a dessert rose – it must be those dates!

If I were to win I would choose Rose Ta’if, Rossy de Palma Eau de Protection, Kevin Verspoor’s perfume or Neela vermeire’s Mohur. I live in the UK.

  • Reading the reviews it’s so clear that everyone likes hers/his rose perfume very different. I loved reading all the reviews and it’s nice to know that rose receives so much love over here.

I’m in the Netherlands and I would love to win Mohur, Royal Rose Aoud, Rose Ta’if and of course the new Rose 1902. Thanks for this lovely draw.

  • tomate farcie says:

I didn’t know that rose is the easiest to distill. Thanks to all the reviewers for showing the uniqueness of the rose through their choices.
I’m in the US. I would choose Rose Ta’if, Le Labo Rose 31, Ineke Rose Briar

  • I love rose perfumes and actually wear both Briar Rose and Stella quite often as they satisfy my perfume cravings but are fairly light and work safe (although Briar Rose goes on strong). There are so many ways to do rose that sometimes I don’t recognize a rose-centric perfume as rose until I have read the notes list. Sometimes it is just that familiar note that I love and can’t identify.
I am in the US and would love to have Rose Ta’if from Ormonde Jayne, Rose 1902, Amber Rose from Shay and Blue, or Rose Boheme by Providence Perfume Co. Thank you.

  • I liked the comment about Rose Ta’if being a brunette perfume. 🙂
    USA
Would welcome Le Labo Rose 31, Rose Ta’if or the Rossy de Palma Eau de Protection.

  • Rose is a scent that everyone has experienced so it’s not surprising to see so many different types of rose fragrances, expressing different facets of this flower. Interesting to see such a variety of rose perfumes – means there is a rose perfume for everyone.

My bottle of Stella is nearly empty and would love to win a bottle of Royal Rose Aoud, Rose T’aif, or Rossy di Palma. I live in Canada.

  • Thank you for this nicely curated bouquet of rose perfume reviews. I enjoyed reading impressions about the scents I have yet to experience, like Amouage’s Tribute Attar. And I’m thrilled to see Providence Perfume alongside Ormonde Jayne and M. Micallef — the description of Rose Boheme is bang-on, in my opinion.

I live in Canada, so if I were to win, my choice would be Ormonde Jayne’s Rose Ta’if (I’ve just squeezed every last drop from my beloved teensy sample). Or one of the two I’ve never tried: Amber Rose by Shay and Blue or Neela Vermiere Creations’ Mohur (both sound delicious)!

  • One of my favorite notes, and so nice to read about many rose perfumes i have never sniffed. I’m most curious about Rose 1902, Briar Rose, and Rose 31, and I live in the US. Thank you.

  • Lovely reviews from the whole gang! Roses are a bit tricky for me, but like Tama, I like a few visible thorns in my rose scents.

Thank you for the draw. I’m in the US and am most interested in: Rose 31, Rose Ta’if, or Briar Rose.

    Happy Valentines Day to everyone!

  • I love the picture just above the part about Eau de protection. This expresses the texture of a rose’s petals in an incredible way. It makes me immediately want not only smell but also touch a rose…

Thank you for that great opportunity.

I’m in Germany and I#d love to try Rose Ta’if, Rose 31 or Mohur.

  • I loved that Michelyn said Rose Ta’if is a brunette perfume, more than a blonde one! I thought I was the only one who made associations like that! I have fragrances that are for dark clothes, rainy days, pink versus nude lipsticks… perfumes are part of a whole picture I hope to augment, not redirect or challenge. And I tend to think of the whole aesthetic picture when selecting which one ol going to wear. That said, I’m not a massive rose fan, but some of the tournament of roses selections sound like persuasive mind-changers. I’m in the US. Thank you for the reviews and the draw.

My choices, should I be so lucky, would be (in order, more or less):

Rossy de Palma Eau de Protection from Etat Libre D’Orange

    Neela Vermeire Creations Mohur

Amber Rose from Shay and Blue, Nose Julie Masse

Rose Boheme by perfumer Charna Ethier of Providence Perfume Co.

Royal Rose Aoud by Parfums Micallef

    Briar Rose by Ineke Ruhland

  • I hope that you’re right in your belief that more rose perfumes are coming out lately…the more the merrier, I say! I also enjoyed seeing some recommendations for fragrances I haven’t tried, which are mixed in with some that I really love (and have been lusting after, actually). (I’m in the US, so I can’t ask for Mohur if I win…but IT IS SO AMAZING! EU folks, go for it!)

My choices, if I were lucky enough to win, would be these. They’re more or less in order:

Rossy de Palma Eau de Protection from ELdO
    Taif by Ormonde Jayne
Royal Rose Aoud by Parfums Micallef
    Rose 31 by Le Labo
Amber Rose by Shay and Blue
Rose Boheme by Providence Perfume Co.

Thank you so much for this fabulous draw!

  • I live in the US and loved what David had to say about his mother growing roses in Seattle, my home. I grew up in SE Alaska, but my mother was raised in Colorado where she was surrounded by wonderful plantlife; her father was an orchardist by trade, horticulturist by avocation. She battled the northern rainforest and grew such a tall, beautiful pink rose tree by our back porch that it was featured in a local publication. My choices (and so wonderful these all are) in order would be:
    Rose 31 by Le Labo
Amber Rose by Shay and Blue
    Rose 1902 by Kevin Verspoor
    Rose Boheme by Providence Perfume
Rossy de palma Eau de Protection
    Briar Rose by Ineke Ruhland
Royal Rose Aoud by Parfums Micallef

  • Roses are the most amazing flowers because with all their beauty they have thorns
Everyone writes so beautifully it would be unfair to single out one review
I am amazed how diverse and unusual the choices are since I haven’t read reviews of several including amber rose and rose Boheme
    Kevin’s rose 1902 sounds incredible
My choices are all offered as I only have decants of rose31 and rose taif
They are night and day and I agree rose taif stands out in a crowd
I can imagine Liz Taylor wearing it
Mohur sounds especially beautiful as well and I have coveted it for a year royal rose oud is just gorgeous to look at
Happy valentines day and thank you for this chance
The images used were beautiful I loved the rose strewn steps

  • Rose is one of my favorite notes and I love how varied the fragrances are on this list. I personally gravitate towards darker roses but gasped when I tried Perris Monte Carlo’s Rose Taif a few months ago. It was so beautiful that I wanted a bottle on the spot. I love when you find something that takes your breath away.
I would love to win OJ Ta’if or Micallef. I live in the US and thank you for the draw.

  • I’ve only recently come across some rose perfumes that aren’t sour on me, so I was very interested to read about this assortment, especially the ones with some sweetness. The accompanying photos were also terrific. I’d love to win Rose Ta’if, Royal Rose Aoud, Amber Rose, or Briar Rose, and I’m in the US.

  • Made me feel like I was laying on a bed of Roses from all over the world!!! Being as “Rose” is my middle name, we share a special connection. My pick is for Charna Ethier of Providence Perfume’s Rose Boheme!!! Pick me, the Rose!!!

  • I really enjoyed reading these reviews, my interest especially piqued by the gourmand-ish ones. My mouth is absolutely watering from these luscious descriptions! I would love to win Amber Rose by Shay and Blue, Micallef Royal Rose Aoud, or Ormonde Jayne Rose Ta’if. Thanks so much for the generous draw. I am in the U.S.

  • Rose is one of my favourite notes, and the ones you selected are definitely some of the finest around. Rose Ta’if is probably my favourite Ormonde Jayne (even over Tolu), and rather than “dessert” over “desert”, I would call it “floating rose flower”, as it is very fresh. Mohur sounds delicious, being nutty and fruity and spicy – what can go wrong with those characteristics? Rossy de Palma to me is a blood dark red perfume with a peppery twist that makes it pretty rough. I love the versatility of rose! Rose 31 is not that animalic to my nose but rather fresh and woody, a really refined beauty.
I am in Belgium (EU) and I’d love to win:

Royal Rose Aoud by Parfums Micallef
    Rose Ta’if by Ormonde Jayne
Amber Rose by Shay and Blue
Rossy de Palma Eau de Protection by Etat Libre d’Orange
    Rose 31 by Le Labo
    Mohur by Neela Vermeire Creations

    Thanks for the draw!

  • susie frankel says:

Briar Rose and Amber Rose are my choices. USA
The thing with roses is numbers and that each rose has a different allure from various climates, soil and management technics. Rose scented perfumes each offer something different. The article’s scent descriptions were read with peaked desire. My mother’s scent was rose and I have forever been in its spell.

  • I enjoyed finding out about the Catherine Denueve legend for Guerlain…and I loved this particular group of pictures that you selected especially Nick Knight’s Flora. I am from the USA and would love to win:
    Rose Ta’if by Ormond Jayne
Amber Rose by Shay and Blue
Rossy de Palma by Etat Libre
    Rose 31 by Le Labo
    Rose Boheme by Providence

  • I loved the sensual descriptions in Michelyn’s reviews of Rose Ta’if and Royal Rose Aoud. I would love to win either of these (I’m in Australia). They sound completely decadent and delicious!

  • I love the descriptions of all the different kind of rose perfumes, but most of all I loved the delightful illustrations!
I live in the EU, Sweden and if I’m lucky I would love to win Royal Rose Aoud, Rose Tai’f or Rossy de Palma.

I am in the USA and right now I am sitting through a dangerous winter storm. While the snow, sleet and heavy winds swirl outside, the fragrance of roses waft in my nostrils from reading the wonderful reviews of the perfumes in this article.

My birthday is February 14th and it would be extra special if a lover was waiting to greet me with a single, red rose as described in the Le Labo review (especially if he looked like the picture above it)! However, as that is not likely to happen, winning a bottle of perfume would make my birthday especially “rosy”. My top choices are: Rose 31 by Le Labo, Rose Bohème by Providence Perfume & Rossy de Palma Eau de Protection.
Thank you for this wonderful draw, and fragrant Valentine’s Day greetings to all.

  • I am glad to see that rose is making a come back. Felt it was being under-appreciated lately. I am especially glad that men of the western world begin to see it as something appropriate for them to wear too. The selection of roses here is lovely. I was especially swayed by Rose 31 description, a frag I have been meaning to sample some time now based on other reviews. Nice choice of picture to go with it btw 😉 Also being reminded of Nahema made me a bit emotional. It is a fragrance I once loved on someone I now have lost. I have a finished bottle tucked in a drawer somewhere that I forgot about on purpose. I think I’ll look for it today. This winter day is beautifully sunny and memories seem harmless – although it’s sure to give me a bitter chuckle… and I’ll probably reach for a cigarette afterwards.

    I am an EU resident:
    Mohur by Neela Vermeir
    Rose 31 by Le Labo
Rossy de Palma by Etat Libre d’Orange
    Rose 1902 by Kevin Verspoor

Hello..I am in the USA and right now I am sitting through a dangerous winter storm.

  • Roses roses everywhere and I want them all. Rose taif with its chewy dates and rose 31 with its skank. Rossy the best celeb scent ever although i miss the old bottle with the dragon tattoo. I would love mohur Rose Boheme because it sounds interesting and I like moss gown Amber rose yum Royal rose aoud (sounds amazing ) Rose 31 Taif rose by ormonde Jayne Rose 1902 since it was inspired by coty. And briar rose because I love all things Ineke.

Throws petals in the air !!!

  • Thank you all for all the reviews and draws!

I loved reading about the “ambrosial” Amber Rose and, as a brunette, am glad to know Rose Ta’if would fit me perfectly. And I liked reading how Briar Rose calls to mind a beautiful wild image of an overgrown uncultivated thorny rose, fitting the name and scent together. Mohur sounds spicy and fabulous–wish I had an EU address! Loved the vivid description of Royal Rose Aoud, it feels pretty and decadent and languorous….

USA (so no Mohur for me)
    Choices would be:
Amber Rose, Rose Ta’if, Rose Boheme, Royal Rose Aoud, Briar Rose, Rose 31, Rose 1902, Rossy de Palma Eau de Protection

  • Rose is my favorite raw material in perfumes, so I love your reviews of these beautiful rose perfumes. It is nice to remind us of J.P.Guerlain’s Nahema. I’m impressed and excited about Rose 1902 as Kevin’s response to Coty. As I adore Mohur, I love words “a perfect parfum”. I love rose/oud combination, therefore it is great to see Royal Rose Aoud in your selection. Really thanks to everyone who gives the perfumes for this fabulous giveaway. I’d love to win any of perfumes available for EU, I’m in Croatia. Mohur, Rose 1902, Royal Rose Aoud… Happy Valentine’s Day.

So many different rose fragrances! I enjoyed hearing about the expert noses’ favorites. I would like to try Rose 31 or Rose Boheme. I live in the US

  • Anastasiya Mason says:

I enjoyed reading all the reviews but especially about Amouage growing deeper and more intense with time. I did not know perfumes can do that! Also I learned what Nahema means. I am curious about Rose Ta’if, Briar Rose and Rose 31. I am from the USA.

  • Rose is my favorite note and roses my favorite flower; I never tire of reading about them in any way shape or form. Thank you!

What I enjoyed most of all about this article was learning what our contributor’s favorite rose perfumes are, and why they enjoy them. I love all the different reasons and preferences!

I’m in the USA and would be thrilled with any of these fragrances, but I’d especially love Kevin Verspoor’s Rose 1902, Royal Rose Aoud by Parfums Micallef, Rose Boheme by perfumer Charna Ethier, and the young gentleman in all his glory featured above.

Thank you so much for such generous prizes! (And the young gentleman in all his glory.)

  • What a lovely selection of favorite Rose scents! I love that there is such a wide variety here, rose utilized in many different ways. I think that’s what is so wonderful about Rose perfumes – there is always some Rose manifestation for everyone.

I live in the US, and would love to be entered for:

Royal Rose Aoud by Parfums Micallef
Rose Ta’if by Ormond Jayne London
Amber Rose by Shay and Blue
    Rose1902 by PERFUMEKEV
    Rose 31 by Le Labo
Rose Boheme from Providence Perfume Co.

This article truly captures the essence and history of the beloved rose, from the Holy Grail Nahema, to the lesser known Briar Rose. Briar Rose and I have been having a Spring affair for years now and your review hits the nail on the head. It is indeed dark yet light, and almost clean somehow! It’s as if it were a whole rose bush, bloody thorns an all, smack dab in the middle of a green apple orchard while someone nearby snacked on blackberries and smoked Djarum clove cigars. It truly is a unique masterpiece and I’m glad to know I’m not the only one who appreciates it. As far as the contest is concerned, if I had to pick one it would definitely be the 100ml EDP of Royal Rose Aoud by Parfums Micallef as I already have Briar Rose, Micallef has been on my want list on my perfume forum for years but has always somehow been out of reach for me financially. I’ve been wanting this one especially, as ever since my very first introduction with the rose and oud combination, an attar Al Hanouf by Al Rehab, I’ve been addicted with the combo! I also have Thierry Mugler’s Miroir Des Voluptes, which is a very different take on the rose oud combo, and while it is beautiful I find it too harsh for Florida’s heat and humidity and think that the gourmand approach by Micallef would be better suited. Thank you for the article and generous giveaway and Happy Valentine’s Day to all!

  • Whenever I thought of Perfumes I thought of roses. It is now I am encountering perfumes that smell of pure leather, smoke, or old furniture, ice cream or pee, which show the vast amount of changes, Innovations, creativity, and challenges perfumery has gone through. I love many, I wear some and appreciate often but rose has always been the star note in perfumery for me. Whether its sunny or wet, stormy or dark, light or heavy, dirty and musky I adore rose perfumes.
I tried Le Labo Rose 31 at Saks and walked away with a smile in my wishlist. You described it in a very romantic way as roses almost always do that; “like a lover waiting to meet you holding a single red rose…just for you.” It really is that dirty sexy romantic rose perfume.
I am intrigued by other rose perfume reviews you have put up especially Rossy de Palma and Amber Rose.
I would love to win all 3 of them 😉
    Rose 31
    Rossy de Palma
    Amber Rose
    I live in USA
    Thanks
