The editors and contributors of  Cafleurebon live in many different countries around the world. But there are n borders in the blogosphere. We  seem to agree that autumn is a special season for wearing our favorite fragrances.  Our ten top perfume picks when the days grow shorter and the dry breath of a long hot summer is finally gone.

This fall season, the fragrance topping my list of favourites is Arquiste’s Nanban. Big spicy woods accented with leather and resins were a key trend at this year’s Pitti Fragranze in Florence and Carlos Huber and Rodrigo Flores Roux’s Nanban delivers some clever layering with unusual raw materials that sets Nanban apart from the many others that explore similar olfactive territory. Wrapped in Spanish leather, Nanban is dry and fiery with Malabar pepper, black tea accord, smoky cade, myrrh and frankincense. These dry notes are nicely contrasted with Persian saffron, Chinese Osmanthus, sandalwood, coipaiba balsam and styrax. Nanban pairs perfectly with the colours of fall and cooler temperature.

Autumn conjures mixed feelings for me.  The cooler temps are wonderful, and a perfect invitation to start pulling out the heavier scents from my perfume collection.  The other side of that coin is the onset of seasonal depression symptoms, and fighting the urge to just hibernate through the season and wait for spring.  One of the scents I love for the earlier part of fall when the temperatures are still hot is Mandy Aftel’s Amber.  Aftelier’s Amber has a sparkling citrus opening to brighten my moon paired with a relaxing lavender heart and a labdanum-rich amber base to cozy into.  With cooler temperatures, Providence Perfume’s Cocoa Tuberose by Charna Ethier is a beautiful blend of a gourmand cocoa paired with the seductive buttery tuberose that is intoxicating.  A new one for me this year is Wax Poetic’s EmberJeanette Price’s Ember possesses a play of smoky and hay notes that are an encouraging reminder to me that I can make it through the challenges of fall and winter and look forward to the rebirth come spring.

Patchouli is perfect for Fall, especially the later in gets and winter is on the doorstep.  I Profumi di Firenze’s line is not as well-known as some others, but they make some of the softest, most approachable and cozy perfume around.  Patchouly Rosso is a dry, herbal and bright style of patch – if you need that “dirty hippie dirt” – look elsewhere.  This is the smell of old fallen leaves on a dirt path.  There’s some bitter myrrh and freshly-cut cedar underneath the patchouli to keep things light and lively.  You’ll want this sprayed heavily on your favorite scarf come October!

Bond No.9 New York Amber is not a typical amber fragrance.   This is a fragrance that breaks all the rules.  It isn’t so much straight up amber as a spicy rosy blend of saffron oud ,myhrr and musk  with a surprising  floralcy brought on by osmanthus  and jasmine.  At first spritz it comes on strong, like a gust of cold air, but warms up and takes on the colors of   autumn leaves, all gold, orange, brown, yellow and red.  An usual scent with big sillage, and is my go to for Fall.

Creative Jan Ewoud  Vos  of Puredistance  teamed  up with Roja  Dove,  to create M, a luxe leather inspired by  the inside of an Aston Martin driven by James Bond.  M is much more than leather; everyone does leather. This harkens back to another era when guys were gentleman, open doors for ladies and dressed for dinner. Leather yes- but with a chypre twist of oakmoss and bergamot,    lending a classic air for the opening.  But it’s modern too with a cinnamon note,   layers of lacquered woods  and vanilla, which gives it an oriental flair without sweetness.  For us, M is more Pierce Brosnan in “Die Another Day” than Sean Connery in” Goldfinger” and from the moment Berkan smelled it, it has been a favorite.  Although M was marketed as Puredistance’s first masculine, Michelyn thinks that Jinx (Halle Berry) would wear it. This is a power scent that is not for men only. M is the ultimate statement maker with big sillage.

Sr Contributor Berkan Basoglu, and author of gurmekokular.com

Amouage Memoir Man is one of the most unique creations that we have encountered.  You cannot put it into a classification.  There are elements of a fougere, lavender, mint, yes but there is absinthe and vanilla all swirling around   incense and tobacco. An unforgettable blend of warm and cool. With such diverse ingredients a lot could go wrong, but under the brilliant creative direction of Christopher Chong,  this is a fragrance for long walks in the woods as the sun sets and mists roll in.

Mona di Orio was able to take familiar notes in perfumery and color out of the olfactive lines. With Mona di Orio Les Nombres di Orio Ambre she did just that, using light and shadow,  her signature chiaroscuro,  to create one of my most beloved fall fragrances. It’s at once demure and strident, vintage and modern, powdery and smoky, familiar yet foreign.  The creamy heart of ylang-ylang is tinged with a dusting of dolour. I put my nose to my wrist and envision a baby grand piano with yellowed ivory keys that have not been played for fifty years.  I hear a song of lost love, and cannot remember the words, just the melody.  The air is filled with a strange resinous scent reminiscent of honey. Bathed in benzoin and enveloped in Madagascar vanilla, I close my eyes and listen to Mona’s music.

  • It was a very nice review. I rally enjoyed to read it. Thank you for the draw. I’m a registered reader. And here are my winning choices:
    – Parfums Mona di Orio 75 mlof Les Nombres d’Or Ambre
    – Puredistance is offering 17.5 ml of M
    – 4 x10ml travel set of Ormande Man
    – Mandy Aftel of Aftelier Perfumes
    I live in Europe.

  • I love the smell of fall — the earthiness and the warmth of it, and the spices. For this draw, I’d be most interested in:
    Puredistance M Perfume
Parfums Mona di Orio 75 mlof Les Nombres d’Or Ambre
    Atelier Perfumes Amber
    Profumi di Firenze Patchouly Rosso

US resident. Thanks for the fall draw!

  • Linnea Wiedeman says:

Autumn is my favorite yime of year. Ape cider, baking, and sweaters. Nice review. Patchouly rosso, New York amber and Mandy Aftel amber all sound wonderful to me. I live in the U.S.

  • I was already in the mood for fall, even if it doesn’t land in my area for another several weeks. I happen to be wearing Nanban today and agree that it’s one of the smoothest and easiest to wear cozy scents, I wouldn’t call it at all dry though. Sweet, woody leather would be my description.
I love M, it’s one of my all-time favorite perfumes, and would adore to win a smidge more than the little I have of it so I could enjoy it more frequently. Failing that, I wouldn’t at all mind the Mona di Orio Les Nombres d’Or Ambre. I’m in the US. Happy autumn, and thank you to all the generous folks who provide for these giveaways!

  • madeleine gallay says:

Amber, patchouli, how do you even choose? It’s the fragrance of stepping on leaves after a rain, earthy and light. I adore Mandy Aftel, there is no doubt. But the name … Wax Poetic Ember, these all require high flat boots, a shawl and wind-blown hair. What is as romantic?

    In the USA. Thank you.

  • So many evocative Autumn scents. I already own Cocoa Tuberose (which I love) by Providence Perfume.

I am a registered reader in the US. I would love to win Aftelier Perfumes – Amber.

    Thank you for the draw!

  • I am anxious to smell Nanban. The descriptions I have read seem filled with the feel and smell of Fall in New England. I have several Mona fragrances, but am totally enamored with the new bottles. And I don’t have the Ambre. Mandy Aftel always does fragrances that are unique but approachable. Your list makes me want to start wearing my fall scents, but I am not convinced it has really cooled off. I am in the US.

  • Yes, fall is bittersweet. It’s my favorite season, but it *is* followed by winter, which is hard in the NE US where I live (and where this review seems to live, too, so to speak). . .but I love fall leaves, fall smells, fall weather, and fall scents. Myrrh and amber are in many of these scents – two of my fave notes all the time and especially in the fall.

Would love the Puredistance M (LOVE!!) or the I Profumi di Firenze Patchouly Rosso (stretching myself on patchouli ’cause the review made it sound so good).

In the US. . .thanks for the draw. Happy Autumn!

  • The description of Arquiste’s Nanban make it sound like the perfect scent for autumn and I can’t wait to smell it.

Of those in the draw, the Mona di Oprio Ambre and Puredistance M appeal to me the most.

I live in the U.S. and am a registered reader. Thanks for the draw.

  • I don’t like autumn : that’s why I need to wear comforting scents in this season; so with spices, amber, benzoin… autumn sounds better to me.
From your Top ten, I had the chance to test only Ambre by Mona di Orio, NY Amber by Bond N°9 and M by Puredistance… and all of them could fit my autumn mood and could help me to pass through easier. 😉

I’m interested in Mona di Orio, Puredistance and Ormonde Jayne.

I live in the EU. Thanks for the draw.

  • I love autumn, and there are hundreds of favorite fall fragrances I could name, but so many of them have incense and woods and amber in common. I also love a touch of sweetness in fall fragrances. I absolutely agree with your choices of Puredistance M and Aftelier Amber. They are such different fragrances, but both utterly striking ones. No sweetness in that M, though! It’s a tiger!

This time I believe the Patchouly Rosso from I Profumi di Firenze is calling my name. Myrrh and cedar under that heavenly patchouli? Yum!

    I am in the US.

  • We are just entering our spring, but autumn is my favourite season. These reviews make me remember the relief from the brash heat of summer and the sweetness of mental hibernation.
Amber is a terrific note for cooler weather, the Mona Di Orio Amber and Aftel’s Amber. I would love to win either of these or, especially, M from Pure Distance, my favorite ever on my husband.
    I live in Australia.

  • I agree wholeheartedly with your top ten entry of Puredistance M. This is a great time of year to wear fragrance. I would like to win the Ormande Man as I haver never tried it before. The photo of the fallen red leaves put’s me right in the mood for Fall. USA

  • I am ashamed to say I have never tried any of the fragrances mentioned here. But my favorite autumn fragrance is Chanel’s Bois Des Iles. That crisp but soft aldehyde opening with a creamy floral sandalwood heart – wearing it feels like I’m radiating a soft golden glow. Perfect for autumn when everything starts to turn yellow and brown.

Berkan’s description of Memoir Man is really tempting me to try it. I tried the woman’s version and found it a little too heavy for me. It sounds like the man’s version might be worth sniffing.

Klimt’s Beech Forest is amazing. I thought it was a photo when I first saw it. It’s so vivid and definitely puts me in an autumnal mood.

Thanks for the draw. I’m in Canada. If I win, I’d choose:
    – Mona di Orio Ambre or
    – Puredistance M

  • I think Amouage Memoir Man is fabulous, but I do think I like it better on my spouse then me. I am a fan of the Mona di Orio Ambre, warm and lovely. My favorite fall fragrances are YSL Black Opium, eventhough it smells nothing like Opium, I love this gourmand yummi fragrance. I also love Tom Ford Black Orchid, CB El Born, Naomi Goodsir or de Serail and Amouage Interlude Woman on myself. I adore fall, crisper weather, not heavy jacket weather yet, but fabulous sweaters, bonfires and a fragrance wafting from the knit sweater you are wearing. Apples, Pumkins, Squash all fun fall things I look forward to. I am in the US. My choices would be:

I Profumi di Firenze Patchouly Rosso
    MdO Les Nombres d’Or Ambre
Wax Poetic Ember or Puredistance M

  • i really agree with Memoir Man review that it would be quite a challenge to create a fragrance with these notes that doesn’t turn out to be a mess yet Memoir Man turned out to be quite right. I also like Mona Di Orio Ambre review that it is basically a fragrance of contrasts such as light shadow, modern vintage etc.

I could not help but notice in this article that fall and winter fragrances tend to be quite similar but one has more choices in fall as few days would also be suitable to summer classics…

for this draw, my choices will be:

    Puredistance M
    Mona Di Orio Ambre
    Bond No. 9 Amber

    I am in the US

  • Of the top 10, I know onlu Puredistance M and Ormande Man — both are beautifully suited to autumn. And if the Klimt doesn’t you in the mood for cooler weather with perfumes to match, I don’t know what will! I’m in the US, and would love to win:
    Puredistance M
I Profumi di Firenze Patchouly Rosso
    Mona di Orio Ambre
    Bond No. 9 Amber

  • I haven’t actually tried any of the fragrances listed in your top 10 🙁 I don’t own a lot of fragrances that I particularly associate with fall, but the 2 I do have are Chergui and VCA Bois d’Iris. I guess Chergui could go winter too though. I would absolutely love to win:

    Puredistance M
Mona Di Orio Les Nombres d’Or Ambre
    Bond No. 9 Amber
I Profumi di Firenze Patchouly Rosso

Thanks for the generous giveaway, I’m in the US!

  • We have a way to go for autumn here, but i love the new season when it gentles its way in. The reviews are evocative and crunchy. Would love to try Puredistance M, I Profumi di Firenze Patchouly Rosso, Mandy Aftelier’s scent, or the Wax Poetic Ember. Registered in the US.

  • I adore the cozy fragrances of fall. Most of my collection are more wearable in the fall. I would love to win the Bond no. 9, I have spritzed it at Nordstroms in the past. My other choice would be the Mona di Orio, you had me at vanilla and honey! thanks for the kind givaway. I live in WA. Thanks again. Rox

  • The Mona review was the one that really put me in the mood for fall. Fall is so nice with its cool, cozy evenings. I’d love to try Mona di Orio Les Nombres d’Or Ambre, Puredistance M, or I Profumi di Firenze Patchouly Rosso. I live in the US. Thanks for the great draw!

  • I love pictures of autumn leaves! I have not tried any of the perfumes listed, but I would love to try Mona di Orio Les Nombres d’Or Ambre, Puredistance M, Wax Poetic Ember, or Mandy Aftel’s Amber. I am in the US, thank you!

  • BostonScentGuy says:

Wow! What a generous draw. I’d have to say the Klimt painting definitely put me in the mood for fall since I love nothing better on a crisp fall day than to walk or job through the woods when I can! I’m familiar with almost all the houses of every fragrance you mention and they all sound quite perfect. I have been bringing out the smoky (CBIHP Burning Leaves, Fumerie Turque) and Ambery frags as of late! I’ve smelled Nanban and am intrigued, love Ormonde Man, and Puredistance M. I’d be interested in any of the fragrances, but in particular 1. M, 2. Ormonde Man, 3. Wax Poetic Ember (Hay and Smoke!!!). 4. Bond no9 Amber, 5. Patchouly Rosso. Really any of them would be wonderful of course!
    I live in the US.

  • I so love top ten lists and fall is my favorite time of year
Ever review had me wanting to buy each perfume
My favorites was Nanban and Mona di Orio Ambre
    I would like to win
    Bond No 9 ny Amber
    Mandy aftel Amber
    Mona di Orio Amber
    I love Amber perfumes!
Thank you and I live in the US

  • What a lovely shortlist for fall, filled with a couple I’ve tried but even more that I need to try! Cocoa Tuberose is on the top of my “try” list, as is Les Nombres d’Or Ambre (which I would be ecstatic to win) and Nanban. Just talking about fall scents puts me in the mood for autumn… my favorite time of year (and favorite perfumes to go along with it!). The images selected for this article are lovely. I especially like the “LOVE” leaf photograph. And any colorful autumn forest image is beautiful in my book.
Thank you for the generous draw. I am in the USA.

  • So happy it’s fall (let’s hope)
All the writers did such a great job that I want all ten.
I really would love to win Puredistance M because Roja Dove is a mega star and it would be good on women too
Also since I love patchouli, the patchouly rosso might suit me.
I loved the comparison of Mona di Orio Ambre to hearing a forgotten song so beautiful
Those 3 are my choices if I should be so lucky as to win
    Usa reader

  • To my shame, I have not tried any of these gem talked about here, with an exception: Puredistance M. This one is the quintessential definition of how a leather fragrance should be: refined, smooth, powerful, but yet elegant. M stands for Magical! That is for sure!
Two others that I am very curious about and are mentioned here are Ormonde Jayne Man and Amouage Memoir Man. The first one because is made by Geza Schoen. Everything he makes is an instant favourite of mine, so this one will not be far from what I love looking at the notes and the description. The second one, Memoir, because no house plays so well with the note of incense as they do.

If I were to win, I would like to win either: Puredistance M, the Ormonde Jayne Man set or Mona di Orio.

    I am from EU. Thanks!

  • I totally agree with the quote from Breakfast at Tiffanys. Fall is a very special time of year to me. I love the coolness that comes with the setting of the parching sun, the briskness of the chill in the very early morning hours. I love the fall birds that make their way into my backyard. I have several favorite fall fragrances.. MDO Ambre and LAP Mon numero 8.
    I would love the
    Mona di Orio Ambre
    Patchouly Rosso
    Puredistance M
    OJ Man
I am a registered US reader

  • Awesome list! I absolutely love the autumn. I love walking through the leaves and watching them fall from the tree.
In my collection I have Cocoa Tuberose and it’s very nice.
    I’d like to win:
Les Nombres d’Or Ambre Mona di Orio
    Puredistance M
Bond no 9 New York Amber
    Wax Poetic Ember

Thank you! I live in the U.S.

  • Living in South Africa, we are moving into the freshness of Spring. Reading the reviews, the colours, cool crispness, and smoky odors of Autumn were perfectly conjured up. I love the sound of the contradictions of Les Nombres D’Or Ambre. Also Bond No.9 New York Amber and Cocoa Tuberose (a most unusual combination).
The name ‘Ember’ evokes Autumn for me, even before I have read the notes.

  • I love autumn, for the outdoor smells and for wearing fragrances too, so I’m already in the mood for it. 😉
I live in Berlin, Germany and autumn started here already, love the crisp morning air.
Ambers are a good start, I have Aftelier’s Amber, which is stunningly green in color, but Ambre Vie by Matriarch is my first choice Amber fragrance.
For the draw I’d like to win Mona du Orio’s Les nombres d’Or Ambre.
    Happy Autumn to all!

  • Great rewiew and beautifull list! In my collection there are Ormonde Man and Amouage Memoir Man and I love both. Your choice of images won me over, in particular I love the Japanese screen and the picture of Klimt.
They are the perfect visualization of my idea of autumn, the melancholy grace of the pictorial tradition of the East and the color strength in the mitteleuropean painting.
It is difficult to choose from a list of such quality, my choices would be Puredistance M and Mandy Aftel’s Amber.
    Thanks for the generous draw!
    I live in Italy.

  • Ah autumn and the enveloping warmth of cashmere sweaters and scarves…Autumn may not be my favourite season but I do love the fashionit favours. While I agree with most of the contributor’ choices for Fall , I am in absolute love with amber scents and Mona di Orio and Mandy Aftel can do wrong …
I would love to win Mona di Orio’s Amber or Puredistance’s amazing M
Thank you for this generous draw.

  • Autumn is my favourite season, the reviews have made me excited for all my favourite fall activities! I particularly liked the review of Mona di Orio Les Nombres di Orio Ambre…the description of dolour and lost love brings the heady feeling of melancholy juxtaposed with the feeling of change and newness. It captures what autumn feels like for me, the transition between the lazy summer day and the crisp winter air, the desire to be outdoors vs. the longing to be inside curled up with a good book by the fire.
As stated the one that most caught my attention was Mona di Orio Les Nombres di Orio Ambre (I love ylang ylang). Also Arquiste’s Nanban, Mandy Aftel’s Amber, Bond No 9 New York Amber, Ormonde Jayne Ormonde Man, and Amouage Memoir Man all have piqued my interest.
I am a registered reader in Saskatchewan Canada.
Thank you for such an amazing draw!

  • Fall is my favorite season as I am not fond of heat and tend to stay indoors. It’s like the Truman capote quote I come alive in Autumn.
I have read some amazing reviews for Nanban and M. I agree these are perfect and loved your reviews of each. I wear M ( I only have a sample ) so I liked the Halle Berry part.
    Wax poetic ember
    Mandy aftel Amber
    Bond No 9 Amber
    Puredistance M
    Patchouly Rossy
    Mona di Orio Ambre
Thank you and I am in the USA

  • I’m located where there are four very distinct seasons and Fall is my favorite. I really haven’t experienced those on the top ten. Nanban is on my to try list because of what I read on this site. Reading about the incense, tobacco, smokey and dry notes puts me in the mood to bring my Fall scents to the front row. 🙂

    – Puredistance M
    – Ormonde Jayne Man
    – Patchouly Rossy
    – Mona di Orio Ambre
    U.S.A

  • Valentine Girl says:

The review of Patchouly Rossy put me right in the mood for fall with its promise of old fallen leaves on a dirt path. Fall is just as busy as spring for garden work & as I get ready to shut down my garden for the season & plant bulbs for next year’s show…that’s all I smell in the air; dirt and leaves! I was also intrigued by Wax Poetic’s Ember with smoke and hay notes, as catching whiffs of the scent of a bonfire burning swirling with the dirt & leaves also reminds me of autumn.
I adore leather – so I really was intrigued by the review of M by Puredistance. Although I enjoyed the Jinx reference, I wonder if M would suit M herself –Judi Dench! Someone once gave me a bottle of Hot Couture by Givenchy and I find fall is the only time I can ever wear it. Even days later I still get faint whiffs of it in my scarf, but sometimes I find it way too overpowering and heavy, so I would love to try Amber interpreted by the talented Mandy Aftel. Thanks for a wonderful draw — choices are: Patchouly Rossy, Wax Poetic Ember, Puredistance M, and Mandy Aftel’s Amber. USA resident gardener!

  • Jennifer Witt says:

Fall is my favorite season. The leaves outside my window have just changed color and will only stay ablaze for a short period of time, but it is GLORIOUS while it lasts.
The scents I would love to try are:
    Bond No 9 Amber
    Mona di Orio Ambre
    Mandy aftel Amber
I’m in the (very vivid) midwest USA. Thanks for the draw!

  • I’m still so very new to niche fragrances that I’m not sure who I agree with … because I have not tried any of these (yet)! But of all the descriptions, I think Berkan Basoglu’s description of Bond no 9 New York Amber has convinced me that it’s the fall fragrance for me. “At first spritz it comes on strong, like a gust of cold air, but warms up and takes on the colors of autumn leaves, all gold, orange, brown, yellow and red.” Autumn to me is always double-edged and bittersweet; on one hand you have the fresh, crisp air that whispers of possibilities and harvests, but on the other hand you have the dying and falling leaves that signal the end of summer’s glorious warmth. A “spicy rosy blend” with an amber base sounds like a perfect accompaniment for the mood.

All the talk of cool air and phrases like “old fallen leaves on a dirt path” and “long walks in the woods as the sun sets and mists roll in” have really made me excited about autumn (even though I’m a summer person).

    Obviously, my first choice is:
Bond no 9 New York Amber!

But I would also love to try:
    Profumi di Firenze Patchouly Rosso
    Wax Poetic Ember
Parfums Mona di Orio Les Nombres d’Or Ambre

    I’m in USA.

  • I love fall and all the smells that come with it! I’m in the Us and would love to try:
    Arquiste’s Nanban
    Patchouly Rosso
    Puredistance M
    Wax Poetic Ember

    Thank you for the draw!

  • What great reviews and commentary, thanks all. Pam Barr’s description of the fallen leaves on a dirt path is one of my favorite things about October; there are many local trails I enjoy and the smell of dry leaves would make a great perfume in itself. Sadly, I can also empathize with Michael’s seasonal depression so late fall is bittersweet. Of the scents in this generous draw, I’m most attracted to I Profumi di Firenze Patchouly Rosso – I agree Pam, patchouli is so perfect for fall, also Wax Poetic Ember and Puredistance M. Thanks everyone, I’m in the US.

  • Fall is my favourite time of year – I love the crunchiness of leaves underfoot, the slightly musty smell as they turn to rot and powder, the warm glowing colours and the crisp bite in the air as fall turns to winter. I just love it all and looking at the images in this post has made me excited for it to come!

Of all the fragrances mentioned, Arquiste’s Nanban is the one that appeals to me the most, but since I’m also an amber lover, I’m attracted to Mandy Aftel’s Amber and the Mona di Orio Amber. Wax Poetic’s Enber sounds interesting, too, and all of them seem a perfect fit for my favourite season!

Of the fragrances in the draw, I’m most interested in:
    Puredistance M
    Mona di Orio Ambre
    Wax Poetic Ember
    Aftelier Perfumes Amber
    I’m in the US. Thanks!

  • I love the shades of fall. the crisp fresh air, the smells of woodsmoke. Nanban sounds amazing.
I am in the USA and would love to try:
Les Nombres d’Or Ambre Mona di Orio
    Puredistance M
Bond no 9 New York A mber
    Wax Poetic Ember

    Thanks for the opportunity!

  • I Love autumn, especially the scents when I am walking through a forest or the vineyards. I Don’t know the perfumes you listed but I would like to try:
    Les Nombres d’Or,
    Mandy Aftel,
    M by Puredistance,
    I live in Europe.
Best regards and thanks for the draw!

  • “The air is filled with a strange resinous scent reminiscent of honey. Bathed in benzoin and enveloped in Madagascar vanilla….” This part of the Mona di Orio Ambre review spells autumn to me. I haven’t tried any of the mentioned fragrances, but I would be interested in Mona di Orio Ambre and Puredistance M. I live in the Netherlands, EU. Thanks fot this, yet again, awesome draw.

  • Autumn holds a sadness for me, the summer is past and the mood changes. Of course its totally about perception I admit, as places like Canada or Helsinki which I have visited in Fall is a performance of Natures finest array of colors. And with such beautiful fragrances here its more cause for a celebration! Being International (NZ) I’d choose Mona di Orio Ambre, Puredistance M or Aftelier Perfumes Amber. Now the sadness has disappeared at the descriptions of these works of olfactory art. Thank you for a generous draw and eloquent review.

  • I love fall and eagerly await it’s temperatures. We do have a ways to wait for that where I am, but I at least the calendar says it is here! I have not tried any of the top 10 fragrances, but agree amber is always a beautiful reminder of fall. Color, scent, all of the above. I would love to try Patchouly Rosso. It just sounds glorious! I would also love to try the Wax Poetic Ember, I cannot wait to try this line! Also, the reivew of Mona di Orio makes it sounds irresistible, as well. The review of Patchouly Rosso was my favorite for fall, just sounded cozy and warm. I’m in the US. Thanks for the draw.

  • marialovesperfume says:

I don’t really like the fall, because I am a summer person, but I do love Fall fragrances. My favorite reveiws were Bond No 9 Amber and Mona di Orio Ambre, very nice , leaves swirlign and lovely songs. I would like to win Mona di Orio Amber, Puredistance M. I live in the Eu

  • Fall is my favourite season of the year.
I live in Japan, where Fall seems very short, it lasts maybe 3 to 4 weeks and is merely a passage from Summer to Winter temperatures. I don’t deal well with heat, and the crispness of the air, the Fall winds that are so refreshing, the change of the colours of the leaves, everything lifts me up, much more so than Spring.
Citrussy summery scents are not my thing. I like to wear ambers, and gourmand fragrances when the days finally start to cool off. They bring me comfort and make every day feel like a cozy moment.
I have tested the Mona di Orio Ambre and it is oh so gorgeous, unfortunately not available here. I’d like to enter the draw for the Mona di Orio of course.

  • I would totally agree that New York amber and Mandy Aftel’s amber would seem to be excellent choices for Autumn wear.
The scents which appeal to me (and would be available should i win) are Parfums Mona di Orio ‘Les Nombres d’Or Ambre’ and Mandy Aftel’s ‘Amber’.
I live in the UK and Klimt’s Beech forest has put me in the mood for kicking autumn leaves in the park very soon. Its a time of mindful retrospection with the hope of another upcoming year!
    thanks for the draw.
PS. I also LOVE ‘Face the foliage’ – it has inspired me to do some creative work with flowers, leaves and love! x

  • This is a great top ten perfume list because it is so varied and I loved the descriptions . I do like fall and the kids are already planning their Halloween costumes. I haven’t tried any of these but really need to. The face foliage was so clever that I followed the link and saw the others
    Ormonde man
    Bond no 9 Amber
    Mandy aftel Amber
    Puredistance M

  • Autumn is my favorite time of year. The sweater-weather temperatures, the actual soft fuzzy sweaters and leather jackets, the colors, the extra-golden sunlight, holidays, foods, everything. The sense of new beginnings amid the falling leaves. The scent of the outdoors, and the personal scents that come out after the heat fades.

Of all the fragrances mentioned, Arquiste’s Nanban is the one that excites me the most, but since I’m also an amber lover, I’m attracted to Mandy Aftel’s Amber and the Mona di Orio Les Nombres d’Or Ambre
“ I hear a song of lost love, and cannot remember the words, just the melody. The air is filled with a strange resinous scent reminiscent of honey. Bathed in benzoin and enveloped in Madagascar vanilla….” I mean wow.

All the scents mentioned sound great, but I’d include more vanilla because I love it. Maybe Mona di Orio’s spicy take. Amber, patchouli, chypres and fougeres, all yes. Tea for Two is on my own list, and the original Frapin 1270, and OJ Woman. I don’t think I’ve tried OJ Man, but if it has anything in common with its counterpart I’d love to!

New York Amber sounds like a very saffrony oud with florals which I also like because saffron is my favorite spice. Ember is one I’m sampling now (thanks guys!) and it’s got a fresh/burning thing kind of like leaves but not the same(hay?), with a Bois Farine thread underneath. Hard to explain but really interesting!

I’ve never tried Patchouly Rosso “This is the smell of old fallen leaves on a dirt path.” I adore that kind of patchouli, especially a drier, more austere version. But I also adore my Montale Patchouli Leaves which is ridiculously over the top.

    top choices:
Mona di Orio Les Nombres d’Or Ambre
    Ormonde Jayne Man

    Mandy Aftel’s Amber
    New York Amber
    Patchouly Rosso

    I’m in the US. Thanks!

  • The very mention of amber puts me in the mood for fall — it’s the colour of autumn leaves and its sweet, sappy, boozy scent is like soft cashmere. So naturally, I agree wholehearted with the amber scents in your Top 10. I especially appreciated Michelyn’s analogy of Mona Di Orio’s Ambre to music. Also Michael’s review of Mandy Aftel’s amber, Providence Perfumes’ Cocoa Tuberose (not an amber, but a classic in my books) and for introducing me to Waxing Poetic’s Ember. I live in Canada, and I would be thrilled to try Les Nombres d’Or Ambre, Aftelier Amber, or Waxing Poetic’s Ember. Thank you for the draw!

  • I enjoyed the whole review but Mona di Orio part along with the amazing pictures/paintings made me long for autumn although here in Greece the temperature is still high and the weather sunny.
Mona di Orio a perfume of contrast a chiaroscuro creation with amber notes that strongly recall of autumn and remind us of falling leaves and sweet melancholy of this season which I love for this reason and only…
Also Puredistance M loved the association with Bond a masculine creation, a strong smell not only for men but for women as
well, Jinx indeed is a perfect match.
In case I win I would love to try Puredistance M or Mona di Orio Amber.
I am a registered reader living in EU and I wish you all a Happy Autumn time.

  • I thoroughly enjoyed the article as it really captured Fall through scent! I totally agree with the Bond No 9 Amber being on the list as it is the one I reach for the most during the season! Also the Mona di Orio is a great one as well for Fall. I look forward to trying those on the list that I’m not familiar with. I live in the US and thanks for the draw!

  • I haven’t tried a single one of the fragrances on your list yet, but amber, benzoin, and tobacco are some of the notes that I usually reach for in fall, and I see that they’re heavily featured here. Any of them would be lovely, but the two I’d most like to win are New York Amber and Les Nombres d’Or Ambre. I’m in the US. Thanks!

  • I adore spicy, cozy, ambery blends and I’m happy that autumn is finally here so I can indulge in them. I haven’t tried the fragrances in the article, but I love a number of Mandy Aftel’s perfumes. I would love to win Aftelier Amber. I’m in the US.

  • It was pretty cool today so I am definitely ready for Fall.
I am lucky to live where there all 4 seasons and while I like spring fall is cool too.
Memoir man and arquiste Nanban sound like my favorites but since they are not being offered my choices just based on the review would be wax poetic ember, mona di Orio Ambre, and puredistance M
    I live in Canada

  • Amber has always been a fragrance that moves me. I wish I could figure out the connection to my past. I think most would agree it is a cold weather scent. It offers such comfort, like a cashmere blanket thrown over the shoulders to envelop you in warmth. So the fragrances with amber appeal. But none more than the evocative description of Mona diOrio’s Ambre. I love the olafactory picture of the old grand piano, playing an old beautiful melody. Beautiful description! I am the most interested in the Mona di Orio or the M Puredistance, which also sounds beautiful. I live in USA. Thanks for the draw.

  • The only two I’ve had the pleasure of smelling are M and Ember, both excellent choices. I’m also really looking forward to trying Arquiste’s Nanban (which I first heard about here!) and have a decant on the way.
Of the listed choices I would most like to drive home with Ormande Man.
    I am in the US.

  • Autums is my favourite season as it seems to be for a lot of perfumistas 🙂 I completely agree with you with Memoir Man , perfect for colder days, very comfortable to wear, even for a woman, by far my favourite from the Amouage for men- Another one I like to wear after having forgotten during the summer is Myrrhe ardente, it’s a pity it is now discontinued.
If I win I would like Puredistance M , Ormonde Man Travel Set or Ambre of Mona.
    I’m in EU.

  • I have not had the opportunity to try any of these fragrances. However, the description of Nanban sounds amazing. I have been wanting to try out more leather fragrances lately. I am most interested in trying Les Nombres d’Or Ambre and M, but would be glad to have the opportunity to smell all/any of them as they are all new to me. I live in the US. Thanks

  • Glad fall is here, although I love the beach and summer best. I was really impressed by the reviews and Arquiste Nanban, Mona Di Orio Ambre, Bond no 9 Amber and Amouage memoir which all sound fabulous. I live in the USA.
    My choices would be
    Mona di Orio Ambre
    Aftelier Amber
    Puredistance M
    Ormonde Jayne Man
    Bond no 9 NY Amber
    Wax Poetic Ember
    Patchouly Rossy

  • Nanban I can wait to get my hands on and smell away. Also, Ambre is a winner as well. I’m excited to break out my more resinous/deeper scents as they are by far my favorite. All your photographs and art work you put into the article get me ready for the changing season. The more I read the article, the more I agree with all these amazing fragrances you have selected. Kudos! In the USA. Thanks for an amazing draw once again. Choices:
    Mona di Orio Ambre
    Aftelier Amber
    Puredistance M
    Ormonde Jayne Man
    Bond no 9 NY Amber
    Wax Poetic Ember
    Patchouly Rossy

  • I can definitely agree with Amouage Memoir Man. A true masterpiece of a fragrance. Amouage never disappoints me when they release a fragrance. Your quick thoughts of it was on point. It is an amazing one for the fall, and made me think of leaves changing color and the weather getting a bit cooler. If only it was a choice for the draw! Haha

I would love to win any of
    – Les Nombres d’Or Ambre
    – Puredistance M
    – Ormonde Man
    – Wax Poetic Ember
    -Aftelier Amber

I am in Canada and thank you so much for the draw!

  • I agree that Amouage Memoir Man is perfect for autumn, and it a unique scent. I also agree that patchouli is great for autumn.

    1. Puredistance
    2.Aftelier Perfumes
    3.Ormonde Jayne London Perfumery
    4.Mona Di Orio

The whole superb review put me in the mood for autumn but I must say that the pictures did all the magic. I love autumn in pictures!

I am a registered reader from the EU.

Thank you very much! Wish you all the best!

  • Beautiful post on some lovely fall fragrances including quite a few that I have yet to sniff and am very curious about. The pictures are what resonates with me putting me in an autumnal mood as much as the text, and I especially feel for the ‘chiaroscuro’ and Michelyn’s description of “I (…)envision a baby grand piano with yellowed ivory keys that have not been played for fifty years” to the wonderful Mona di Orio Amber. And yes, that would also be my autumnal choice should I be so lucky.
Thank you for this post and the draw.
    In EU, Denmark.

  • Love fall! As alway, crisp writing and expertly chosen images. I would agree with Nanban, Ember, Ormonde Man, Memoir Man, and M. With fall I like to delve into deep, rich, “bass” aromas: coffee; incense; smoke…..I love the darker colors we see and wear..the browns and oranges. The scents and colors and the chill somehow complement one another – and you have captured that in the selection here and in the images. Time to pull out the sweaters and retire pastel colored polos for a while!
I am in NYC, USA – and thank you!

  • Here in the Sonoran Desert, there really isn’t a fall. Just relief from the hot, hot summer. I agree that fall feels more like a beginning or a renewal. Of the seven fall fragrances you are offering in this draw, Bond no 9 New York Amber, Puredistance M nd Wax Poetic Ember appeal to me. I live in the US your eclectic choice of visuals in your reviews put me in the mood for autumn.

  • Great round up of some fantastic fall fragrances. I love Memoir Man great choice and anything from Mona Di Orio is always worth checking out. I live in upstate NY where it gets pretty cold pretty fast
My choices are Puredistance M by Roja Dove
    Mona di Orio Ambre
    Bond No 9 NY Amber
    Wax Poetic Ember
    Ormonde Man
I profumi di Firenze Patchouly Rossy
I hate raking leaves, but love going trick or treating with my kids Thank you for this great chance. I am new to your site, I was searching Mona di Orio interview and found you guys

  • Fall is my fav season for sure. I love seeing the beautiful scenery. Those are also great choices. I like Memoir the most. My choices are
    Les Nombres d’Or Ambre
    Puredistance M
    Ormonde Man
    Wax Poetic Ember
    Aftelier Amber

    Canada

  • Just as I was feeling like less of a noob, I realized I had not smelled even one of the perfumes on your list! As for the drawing, I’d love to try any of them, especially Mona di Orio Les Nombres d’Or Ambre (ylang!), Bond No. 9 NY Amber, and Wax Poetic Ember. I’m in the US, and I love that quote from Truman Capote, and completely agree with it.

  • Nanban sounds incredible. I need to get my nose on that one soon. It made me think of walking in a forest during the fall and seeing all the leaves on the ground. I would say spring is my favorite season. I love seeing flowers bloom and that refreshing light breeze in the air. I would like any of Les Nombres d’Or Ambre, Ormonde Man, Wax Poetic Ember, Puredistance M, and Aftelier Amber EDP. I am in Canada and thank you for the draw.

  • Autumn is the most amazing time to wear perfume! I cannot agree with you more! Pitty, I only know Puredistance M, and I will wear it tomorrow, though I have a sample. One of the notes I associate with the Fall is patchouli, indeed! Some of my faves – Mauboussin by Mauboussin, Patchouli Intense by Molinard and Patchouli Leaves – Montale.
I live in Bulgaria (EU), that’s why I would like to win one of the following:
Parfums Mona di Orio Les Nombres d’Or Ambre,
    Puredistance M,
    Ormonde Jayne Ormande Man,
    or Amber by Aftelier Perfumes.
    Thank you for the draw!

  • It is easy to think about colder weather coming and perhaps entering into a period of hibernation until spring, as Micheal Singels indicated in his comments in the article, but as he also states, amber is great at this time of year. It kind of helps ease a person into autumn.

I have to agree with Berkan Basoglu that amber in a perfume can warm things up for a person, and makes you think of the golden color of the fall leaves. The Bond No 9 New York Amber bottle, also, is gorgeous.

Yes, I am a fan of amber!

If a winner, I would choose one of the following: Bond No. 9 New York Amber, Mona di Orio Les Nombres d’Or Ambre or Puredistance M.

I am in the US and follow via Feedly. Thank you for this generous drawing.

  • I love autumn, it’s my favorite season. I definitely agree with the inclusion of several amber scents, one of my favorite notes especially in the autumn. One of the most evocative aspects, that puts me in the mood for the season, is the contrast of light and shadow, as mentioned regarding mona di orio’s ambre. And so that would be my choice if I won! I’m in the US, thanks!
