"This Spring I wanted to really embrace the sense of renewal and creativity that always comes this time of year.  With the flowers, Peony and White Lilac, there's that breath of fresh air and life that they represent.   With Fire Opal, I wanted to re-imagine an orange scent with a flash of green and spice that would make you want to breathe life in.   And lastly with Metropolis, as it's kind of abstract, it's about creativity and our sense of individuality within the man-made world.  And with all four of these new designs, I wanted to make perfumes that would inspire happiness in some way". -Dawn Spencer Hurwitz of DSH Perfumes

Dawn Spencer Hurwitz of DSH Perfumes is launching two new fragrances Peony and Metropolis and redesigning two perfumes from her archives White Lilac and Fire Opal (Formerly Fire Opal Orange 2).

A few weeks ago I was speaking with Dawn about how this past year has been challenging for so many of us, and the winter so long, I felt that it was time for lighter, more joyful fragrances. Pretty florals. We must have been thinking the same thing because Dawn has re-designed a perfume her color series  Fire Opal. It is meant to be a happy scent with alot of orange oils, which I have always called Nature's prozac and  for me smells of renewal. A bright green radiant opening, moves through a spicy orange, orange blossom and jasmine heart with a tea-tinged moss drydown.  *Notes include ambergris, bitter orange black tea, blood orange, orange blossom, jasmin grandiflorium, green oakmoss,  frankincense, mysore sandalwood. Available in 1 dram, 10 ml, 50 ml, body products and .25 presentation flask.

Peony is as classic a Spring scent as there is.  Dawn has  been creating and selling a relatively simple, straight forward peony perfume for her clients in Japan for the past 5 years or so.  It’s a very important flower to both the Japanese and Chinese as a symbol of health and prosperity and this “simplicity” is really quite approachable. Lush and feminine. *Notes include: Peony, Russian Rose Otto, Orris, Petitgrain, Egyptian Geranium, Violet Leaf, Green Oakmoss, Patchouli  In 1 dram, 10 or 30 ml Eau de Parfum.

White Lilac: According to Dawn: "This *IS* one of the quintessential Spring aromas although not everyone has experienced white lilacs as opposed to the traditional light purple or even dark purple lilacs.  White lilacs tend to take on a more ethereal, dewy quality and even exhibit a subtle, sweet fruitiness in the first wafts". White Lilac has a honeyed dry down, so it is not a BIG white floral.  *Notes include: French Beeswax, Summer Lilac, Honey, Neroli, Musk and  Violet Leaf Absolute, She had discontinued this scent but now has brought it back. In 10 or 30 ml Eau de Parfum, 10 ml Essence Oil, body products.

metropolis dshperfumes 2014

Metropolis is new for 2014and targeted to men, although I am sure that will not keep any of her women fans from wearing it, "Modernism. Minimalism. Urban chic. An abstract masculine design with notes of brushed steel, glass, concrete and motor oil."  *Notes include: Aldehydes, Ambergris, Cedar, Bergamot, Oakmoss, Black Leather Accord and Indian patchouli. In 1 dram, 10 or 30 ml Eau de Parfum
