Dennis Ingui of Aurorae Yoga and Prostate Cancer Survivor
I just turned 64 on October 18th and would have never reached it if not for a periodic physical I had at 48. I was diagnosed with prostate cancer with a simple PSA blood test. Most experts will tell you that there is no need for this test until after 50, but due to cancer history in my family I decided to get these regular checkups at 40 and thank God, for it saved my life. I decided on having radical prostatectomy surgery to remove the disease. I was lucky they caught it early while still encapsulated in the prostate and they were able to remove it completely. After the surgery, I was physically depleted and depressed. I needed an outlet in my life to rebuild my body as well as develop some inner peace in my mind so I gave yoga a try. Yoga has helped me accomplish both of these goals while creating a positive and balanced attitude toward life. I can’t emphasize enough how important it is for everyone to take the time to get a checkup at least once a year. It’s crazy that most people will take better care of their cars than their own bodies, then eat well and find a physical activity you enjoy and exercise regularly.– Dennis Ingui, Founder and Owner of Auorae Yoga
I have known Dennis for 20 years, ever since we were a dream team of Merchandising (Dennis) and Marketing (Michelyn) for a large jeanswear company. He has been an inspiration to me both personally and professionally. Many of our readers may have noticed that clean shaven celebrities grow moustaches and beards during November (Movember) to show their support for Prostate Cancer Awareness. According to the American Cancer Society, Prostate cancer is the most common cancer among men, except for skin cancer. This year, an estimated 180,890 men in the United States will be diagnosed with prostate cancer. Studies show men skip doctor visits more frequently than women and only go when they are extremely ill, skipping preventive care. If one male reader makes an appointment for a PSA blood test, we feel that in itself is an accomplishment. The Movember Foundation is the only charity tackling men’s health on a global scale. Rochas Moustache- Edmond and Thérèse Roudnitska (1948)
This Movember wouldn’t it be great if you could not only look snazzy with your Mo, but smell like a Mo too? Thanks to Rochas you can! See, back in the late 1940’s the brilliant team of Edmond and Thérèse Roudnitska created what is considered one of the most pivotal masculines of all time – and it just happens to be named, Moustache. Yes, whilst you’re sporting your finely groomed Mo’s, you can smell like a true stache. Brimming with bracing citrus, pleasing aromatic herbs, a dose of leather, and a dirty little tidbit of naughty, it’s a cologne that is as playful as it is serious and modern as it is classic. Best of all, it has the stamina to last all day and then be quickly refreshed – lasting long into the night. Honestly, one could hardly ask for anything mo’ to complement their Mo than mo’ Moustache! Aramis Devin Vintage Ad
Aramis Devin – Bernard Chant (1977)
My father, brother-in-law and my husband’s best friend are all dealing with prostate cancer, and thanks to early diagnosis, are all in remission. I am constantly reminding (some would say nagging) my husband to make sure to have the tests done on schedule. I guess my reminding works, as he follows through as recommended. Nagging doesn’t work for everything, though. My man has been wearing Aramis Devin since 1977. From time to time I suggest he try something new. He will humor me, but inevitably returns to his fragrant comfort zone – vintage Devin – a manly chypre for all seasons. Gail Gross – Sr. Contributor
Vintage Eau Sauvage Ad Rene Gruau
Eau Sauvage- Edmond Roudnitska (1966)
November is Movember and Movember is all about the worldwide movement where men don’t shave for the month to raise awareness for prostate cancer. My fragrance choice to connect with Movember is the iconic first fragrance from the house of Christian Dior, Dior’s Eau Sauvage. Sauvage means wild in French and men are the wilder sex. Eau Sauvage has been taming the wild man with its luscious citrus and aromatic notes since the mid-60s and men must be tame with the idea of getting screened for prostate cancer on a regular basis. Ermano Picco Carven Vetiver
Carven Vetiver – Edouard Hache (1957)
In Italy we don’t celebrate Movember as fortunately there’s a national health program for prostate cancer screening (as for female breast cancer) so I confess I had to google for it. I really enjoyed the idea of moustache as to “change the face of men’s health”. There are few perfumes indeed that literally impacted on men’s self-awareness and surely the one that changed the face of men’s perfumes starting the woody olfactory family is Carven’s Vetiver that Madame Carven created for her beloved husband. True to genuine manly values, its “no thrills added” woody freshness still speaks to men –Contributor Ermano Picco (who has a fabulous mo) and author of La Gardenia nell’Occhiello
Kourous The Fragrance of Triumphant Masculinity
Yves St Laurent Kouros Pierre Bourdon (1981)
Happy Movember! Classical Greek artists clearly understood every muscle, vein and curve in the male anatomy. They had to in order to portray the perfect male form in their sculptures. Since Movember is all about encouraging men to increase self-awareness of his own body, what better fragrance to link to this movement than Yves Saint Laurent’s classic fragrance for men, Kouros. With extreme overdoses of musk, woods and animalic notes, Kouros represents strength and masculine beauty. The aromatic notes convey vitality and good health. Like a great work of art, Kouros is one of few men’s fragrances, created in the 1980s, which has stood the test of time. –Guest Contributor Clayton Ilolahia, and Author of What Men Should Smell Like

Arquiste El Rodrigo Flores-Roux/ Carlos Huber (2016)
Is your upper lip struggling to grow that manly ‘stache for Movember? Dab on a bit of Arquiste’s ultra-butch El – winner of our Best Male fragrance at Tranoi this year — and even Princess Elsa could sprout a healthy handlebar. This is machismo in a bottle, a modern nod to the overt masculines of the 1970s such as Azzaro Pour Homme and Aramis. With its complex array of fougere and animalic notes, El is earthy, rooty, musky, swaggering – and guaranteed to bring out your inner Burt Reynolds.–Lauryn Beer Editor
