Profumi del Forte Versilia Aurum: Breaking Dawn + “Liquid Gold” Sample Draw

Growing up in South Florida I spent my share of mornings on the beach watching the sunrise. As the chill of the night fled the breaking light it always carried a special scent, too. The last vestige of the night blooming flowers overlaid the slightly woody smell of the pines and the crashing surf. The between times of twilight and dawn seem to carry a special magic. The Versilia series from Profumi del Forte is meant to evoke the different facets of the Tuscany beach coast. Forte del Marmi is centrally located on the Versilia and it is also the city where Profumi del Forte is from. The beachside of Versilia is backed by the Apuan Alps behind them giving a unique mix of geography.

Profumi del Forte Versilia Aurum was created, according to the press release, to evoke the spirit of that most noble of metals, gold. A fragrance that is necessarily rich and precious, but not insolent or over the top, not just for the lucky ones. In the end, I believe I found the true path with this mix of sweet and warm, a delicate balance of fruits and flowers, woods, resins, marine breezes and aphrodisiac memories. My Aurum is a jewel for the olfact, to be worn with style on summer´s sweetest evenings."

Upon reading that I was worried about the fruity aspect as the note list has orange, strawberry and plum listed but those notes never appear on my skin. Instead of a fruity floral Versilai Aurum acts more like a Floriental on my skin and as I like that style better I am happy that that is the way it wears on me.

As I said above on my skin I barely detect any fruit. The only one of the listed notes that sort of appears is the plum. Truthfully it is the tuberose and jasmine which carry the early going for me. Rose, iris and lily of the valley all eventually appear. The lily of the valley adds a bit of olfactive alpine quality to the florals. Vanilla is the central note of the base. It is contrasted with balsam, musk and ambergris. The ambergris adds the beach quality which reflects Versilia. Versilia Aurum starts with flowers and eventually warms up.

Profumi del Forte Versilia Aurum has above average longevity and average sillage.

I reviewed Profumi del Forte Versilia Platinum and found that was more Alps than beach. Versilia Aurum turns that formula around and is more beach than Alps. Which as someone who spent too many early mornings on the beach suits me fine.

Disclosure: This review was based on a sample provided by Intertrade Europe.

We have three samples of Profumi del Forte Versilia Aurum to giveaway to one winner, courtesy of Luckyscent. To be eligible for the draw leave a comment below naming your favorite beach smells and or your favorite Profumi del Forte fragrance. The draw will close June 7, 2011.

  • This is a beautiful line of fragrances no doubt. I own and love Profumi del Forte By Night White and Jim likes the Profumi del Forte by Night Black. At this point i have to name those my favorites.

  • Living in the midwest, I’ve only been lucky enough to experience the beach of an ocean only a couple of times. What I remember loving most of all about it, is how that incredible enormous expanse of the ocean breeze  hits my face, and smells salty, warm and balmy on sunny afternoon or early evening. I also just love the mixed beach smells that come from us human visitors; the coconut oils and sunblock lotions.

  • My favorite beach smell so far – Corsica coastal cypress trees, unelievable combination of sun, seawater, hot sand and coniferous smell! Thanks for entering me.

  • My favorite beach smell is pinus nigra and laurel together with salty air. My favorite of the Profvmi del Forte is Tirrenico.

  • I've never lived more than a few miles from the beach…Portland, Maine…Westhampton Beach, New York…Virginia Beach, Virginia.  My favorite beach memories are from my childhood in Maine:  salt, tar, seaweed, pine, rock…these smells say "beach" to me and evoke so many memories.  I'm always on the lookout for beachy perfumes.  Thank you for this post.

  • I love Bobbi Brown Beach simply for the suntan lotion memories. 🙂
Still looking for the perfect scent to capture the actual scent of the beach, though, minus sweaty people!

  • My favorite beach smell is sand and salty air. And I'm fortunate because I can smell it almost everyday where I live. And the sweet scent of Nivea sunscreen is lovely.

  • My favorite beach smell is the salty air (and of course, you need the accompanying breeze!).  I love Roma Imperiale…it's a scent that always makes me happy wearing it.

  • Nice review, Mark. I like almost all beach smells, but a favorite of mine is seaweed drying in the sun.

  • I have never had the chance to test any of Profumi del Forte. Their descriptions sound intriguing.
I have a Granny at the Bulgarian Black Sea coast and I have always associated the smell of the beach with the aroma of sun-warmed fig leaves and pine needles, as well as with the regular peaches, grapes and vanilla ice-cream for а delightful snack while sunbathing!

  • I recently discovered Profumi del Forte's Roma Imperiale, and it is HEAVEN.  Love it.  Had to get a bottle.  🙂  As to beach smells, I love the salty scent of the sea spray.

  • My favorite beach smell is the scent of my skin after a day of being AT the beach.  If only that could be bottled….I'd buy a vat.  I also love all of the different sunscreen smells as folks apply.  My father wore Sea & Ski when I was a kid (fair Irishman burned to a crisp otherwise) and whenever I smelled that, I knew it was going to be an great day.

  • Fav. beach smell is the scent of the salty sea, but from farther away, from the road and coming around the corner just before you hit the beach……….

  • how interesting, the name and the concept 🙂 my favorite beach smell must be Hermes Eau de Merveilles, as well as Honore des Pres Love Coco, which is very unusual and very summery to me.

  • oh, and for natural smells, oops 🙂 fig trees in the sun is the best coastal scent!

  • I would love to try this! My favourite Profumi del Forte fragrance is Marconi 3, which I just bought a bottle of. And I love the smell of salty sea air.
