Perris Monte Carlo Cacao Aztèque (Gian Luca Perris & Mathieu Nardin) ~New Perfume Review + A Gift from the gods Draw

 Cacao Beans apped by M.C

2x Art and Olfaction Finalist in the Independent Category, Perris Monte Carlo is known for their transportive scents of place and olfactive journeys.  The new Cacao Aztèque is time travel back  to 1400 B.C. and the Aztec civilization, where cacao was thought to be a gift from the gods. The seeds were used as currency and ground into drinks for their aphrodisiacal and hallucinogenic properties.

Gian Luca Perris , Creative Director of Perris Monte Carlo

With Cacao Aztèque, a new addition to the Black Collection, Gian Luca Perris (Creative Director) and Mathieu Nardin of Robertet (perfumer) had a clear vision of cacao which is true to the ancient culture. It is not the Western idea of “chocolate” in perfumery … this doesn’t smell like a Kit-Kit bar nor is it particularly gourmand.

I have never smelled a Perris Monte Carlo fragrance. What I enjoyed most about Sebastian’s review of Cacao Aztèque EDP is the note breakdown . My special evening fragrance is Olfactive studio’s chamber noire. USA resident.

  • Gabriel Garcia says:

Yes I ve tried pm at neimans and I was able to sample a few things but not tried the Aztec. Sounds like a great scent.

  • If my memory serves me right, I smelled a Perris Monte Carlo scent in NY a few months back, but I dont think it was cacao. Which era would I travel to? Maybe Andalusia in its Golden Age.

My evening favorite right now is Phaedon Tabac Rouge. USA resident.

  • Haven’t smelled Perris Monte Carlo. The notes on this is appealing to me. Hope I get a chance to try it. Thanks Sebastian and others for this giveaway. Thanks USA

  • I have not tried this line yet. I’m glad to finally see a review on something from the line. I love how Sebastian described the fragrance and made it clear that this is not a gourmand fragrance, as well as how he described the scent of actual cacao pods. I would love a chance to win the giveaway. What era would I like to travel to? Hmmm…that’s hard, maybe the 1920s, so I could be a bad girl wearing Shalimar lol.

  • Sebastian says the main focus here is on the flower pittosporum. I admit I had never heard of this flower before so it seems like a novel accord in this perfume. He also reminds the viewers the name may indicate it is gourmand but it is more a mix of spices and floral though the cacao name does hint at the name Azteque in the perfume. If I have to go back to an era, it is def. the 80s. In fact, if they invent time machine tomorrow, I will take a straight trip to the 80s America. I am watching some of the 80s movies these days and it just seems magical and fascinating decade. I am a child of the 80s too but I was not in America in the 80s. Thanks for the generous draw. I am in the US.

  • Petersen Pohlen says:

I like how Sebastian gets right to the point in his videos. I love Oud Imperial by Perris Monte Carlo. I would love to travel to the 1920s.

  • I haven’t tried anything from this line, but I’ve read several reviews that sounded intriguing, particularly the Absolue D’osmanthe. I would love to chance upon a shop with the full line and really dive in. And this Cacao Azteque sounds nice: a non-gourmand cacao fragrance, what a surprise!

I have smelled those flowers in SF as well, so I’m curious how it translates in the fragrance. Is it prominent enough that even a dilettante such as I would be able to discern it?

As to the time travel, I might choose to experience the 1980s, but as an adult this time 😉

  • @Sr.Fragancia says:

Another great review by Sebastian Jara of Smelling Great,. I never smell fro this house but it sounds sounds very interesting. I hope i win lol.
    Cheers!
    Smell you Later Pip.

  • Frederick Helton says:

I’ve tried both Oud Imperial and Bois d’Oud from this house and was impressed with both. I’m willing to try the new fragrance based on Sebastian’s great review. What I like about Sebastian’s reviews is that he doesn’t put too much hype on the fragrances but give an unbiased opinion. My favorite era was the 80’s when there was a shift in music and movies from old school to breaking new boundaries in entertainment.

  • doowtnehpets says:

My favorite part of the review was Sebastian’s description of the scent. Never tried Perris at all, never even heard of them. If I could travel to an era it would be some era in the future when machines do lots of the hard labor and there’s automatic driving cars and we live in a self sustained world and there’s no wars, ha yeah sure…one can dream.

  • I always enjoy Sebastian’s reviews. His very descriptive and dimensional imagery helps me visualize the fragrances he is describing. I have not tried any of Perris Monte Carlo, but would like to. As for the era I would like to visit, The early 1900’s. Thank you.

  • I have only read reviews of the Perris Monte Carlo line, never tried any of their fragrances.Sebastian’s review of Cacao Azteque is succinct yet creates a vivid olfactory impression of the perfume.Back to the future, Wise Guys, Blade Runner, Body Heat, so many many of my favorite films are from the 80s. Take me to the 80s.

  • Never heard of this house. The bottle is beautiful. Sebastian mentioned the notes, and I thought for sure this was gourmandish. Plus, the presentation of the bottle look liked it be a beast mode fragrance. Doesn’t sound like either is true. But still would love to get my hands on this elegant perfume
Why not time travel to the aztec era. Imagine all the natural fragrances and world treasures that were then.

  • Sebastian always gives you great information concerning a fragrance. I’ve never had any fragrances from this house, but I’d love to try this one. If I were to travel back in time I’d like to travel to the medieval time period in England, Scotland, and Wales. Thanks for the draw. I’m in the USA

  • I like Sebastian’s on point reviews and his knowledge about fragrances. I have never tried any of the Perris Monte Carlo offerings. I gues I would like to travel back to medieval time with knights, princesses, and witches. Thank you for a giveaway!

  • The Cacao notes make me think that this could be reminiscent of Mexican Azteca chocolate. This makes me very interested in trying this.

  • Jaymes Aimetti says:

Although I have not experienced this fragrance, Sebastian does a great job making it sound exotic!

  • Steven W Drabik says:

love when Seb brings new houses to my forefront, never smelled anything from this house. would love to travel to the jurassic era

  • I always enjoy Sebastian’s reviews. I love the notes of this fragrance. And I find it interesting it is part of the Houbigant company.
If would love to travel back to the 20’s era!
    I live in the U.S.

  • Xavier Reynolds says:

What I enjoyed about Sebastian’s review of this fragrance is its unique take on cacao. I enjoy the very spicy, exotic vibes of many fragrances and am curious to try this. From Columbus, OH.

  • What I truly enjoyed about Sebastian’s review was learning about a new fragrance note-pittosporum. I have never tried any fragrances from the Perris Monte Carlo line. Era I would love to travel back to? the 60s! I reside in the USA.

  • I simply enjoy the video reviews because they are still rare compared to the written ones. I haven’t heard of this house until today. I would like to travel back to the 1950s. US

  • I love Sebastian’s review. Interesting review.
There are so many perfumes with cacao produced in 2016-2017 year!!!
I have tried some Perris monte Carlo perfumes, but do not remember which perfume..as I remember I wasn’t impressed.
Era I would love to travel back to? the 80s!
    USA, DE

  • Richard potter says:

I love Perris. My faves are Ylang Nosy Be, Patchouli Nosy Be, Absolue d’Osmanthe Extrait, Ambre Gris. I like that Sebastian finds this savory and not sweet. Perhaps reminiscent of Santal Majuscule? USA

  • Cacao Aztèque from Perris Monte Carlo sound like an interesting scent with the not too sweet cacao representing the Aztec idea of harvesting from the cacao plant… Great as always Sebastian! I am not familiar with Perris Monte Carlo… The era would you like to travel to would be the Victorian Period. The dapper clothing everything to the hilt. THANK YOU for the chance at this Draw. And I do live in the US…

  • Sebastian’s review is always interesting. I liked his description of Cacao Azteque- not so sweet and pleasant cacao perfume!!! Unfortunatly I am not familiar with PMC perfumes. I would like to travel back to the early 90’s. US

  • I like the way he describes the smell of cacao-I could smell it from the description! I like several from Perris MC: My favorites are Absolue d’Osmanthe, Essence de Pachouli, and Rose de Taif. Wouldn’t mind going back to the 80s since I love music from that era. Not sute I need to reluve the fashions and I’ll skip the perm this time. I’m in the US and thanks for the draw!

  • I am a subscriber to Sebastian’s channel.

This perfume has all the notes I like. It is as if it was a bespoke fragrance created for my taste. The presentation is great too.

    In WA,USA.

  • Elizabeth T. says:

Floral, woody, peppery, spicy… I didn’t know that that is what fresh cacao smells like. Wonderful review! I am familiar with the PMC line, though have never tried any of the offerings. As a child I wanted to travel to pre-Revolutionary war America… now I’m not so sure, I do love the creature comforts of today! I’m in the USA. Thank you!

  • You had me at cacao….but then to hear it WASN’T a gourmand? And mixed with tuberose? Sign me up! I love listening to Sebastian’s straightforward reviews for they allow me to judge for myself whether I’d life the fragrance. I’m not familiar with PMC but if this is what they put out, I’d like to be – so here’s hoping I win that bottle. 😀 And hm, if I could go back in time I’d head to Haight-Asbury and do a lot of people-watching. I’m in the USA!

  • I have never tried this line of fragrances. I am a huge fan of Sebastian Jara. His reviews are excellent. I would love to win this fragrance. Also I would love to visit Ancient Rome or Greece.

  • I am really curious about a raw cacao, as some of my favorite scents have sweet cacao in them (the drydown of TF Tobacco Vanille for example). I’ve also eaten raw roasted, unsweet cacao straight from the pod and it is so addictive. I am not familiar with Perris Monte Carlo but will research them, as the bottle is amazingly beautiful. I would love to travel back 3,000 years to the time of the ancient Egyptians, a civilization know for perfume. I am in the USA. Have a great holiday!

  • Theobroma indeed!Thank you for the review and draw.
I’m not familiar with Perris Monte Carlo.
I like how Cacao Azteque sounds, that flower sounds lovely, I love spice-inflected blends in the fall!

Hmmm… I might travel back a couple thousand years to the ancient middle east and central asia. Not sure.
Or to the 1800s, when so many inventions were changing the world.

    USA

  • Hello! This is the first time I have heard of Perris Montecarlo and Sebastian’s fragrance channel. I must say, I really enjoyed his review, it’s simple, straightforward, but his description is still evocative. The notes breakdown are very helpful. I’d love to win this as it made me curious about pittosporum, never heard of it in perfumes. I’ve always wanted a spicy jasmine-ish and cacao fragrance. It sounds absolutely lovely! What era would I like to travel to? La Belle Epoque! In France, I would love to witness art and literature flourish! Thank you for this opportunity to win the fragrance!

  • oldandsmelly says:

I am in the USA, I was not familiar with Perris Monte Carlo but am now. I like Sebastian’s delivery, he speaks clearly and is engaging. He is very good at picking out notes and describing those notes. Had no idea that pitosporum existed, sounds like an intriguing note. Era I would like to travel would be the 20’s of Left Bank France.

  • Cody Woodward says:

I enjoyed how Sebastian’s YouTube review gave some insight into cacao and how this fragrance captures the scent. I’m not familiar with Perris Monte Carlo but I am now!. The era that I would love to travel to is the roaring 20s!

  • This perfume sounds amazing! I love the idea of Aztec chocolate being the inspiration for this, or at least what it takes after, and that the pittosporum is so highlighted in the scent.
