Since launching in 2010 with four fragrances, Italian perfume house Laboratorio Olfattivo has grown into an artistic collection that now numbers eleven eaux de parfums. Their most recent releases are Salina by David Maruitte, (which we reviewed in 2013) and Kashnoir by Cecile Zarokian also launched in 2013. This company is dedicated to allowing perfumers free reign when it comes to pursuing their inspirations and fulfilling fragrant dreams. In this exclusive Labo, perfumers work in an environment that nurtures creativity while releasing modern scents that bring classic perfume structure into the 21st century.
Painting Theodore Chasseriau
Kashnoir, was brought to life by perfumer Cécile Zarokian who embarked on an olfactory journey in search of exotic and forbidden essences of the East. Narcotic flowers, psychotropic herbs and intoxicating spices are paid homage with a compostion that displays unusual complexity. The opening of Kashnoir begins innocently enough, with clean aromatic lavender and cool citruses crowned with invigorating herbs. Kashnoir is all about seduction, and at first, it draws you in gently before passionate waves of the plushest orange blossom surround a soft fog of musky white flowers and a dark rose heart. Here emotions are stirred and furtive glances are exchanged. Drawing to an opulent finish intensepatchouli smolders with sensuality as the shadowy vanilla and charred benzoin beckons at the base. From its disarming opening right through to its unapologetic and downright carnal finish, Kashnoir showcases orange blossom at its sultriest. This is my first encounter with Mme Zarokian's fragrances of which my CaFleureBon colleagues have written extensively, but I was not prepared for such a dangerous liaison.
Sillage: very good. Longevity: great.
Notes: Lemon, bergamot, lavender, coriander, rose, orange blossom absolute, patchouli, benzoin, heliotrope & vanilla.
Disclosure: Review based on samples sent to me by MiN NY.
