One of my pet peeves in perfumery, is when fragrance companies place restrictions on who can buy their perfumes based on where they live, not realizing that there are no country borders in cyberspace and dedicated perfumistas will get them anyway through splits or through "scent mules". As soon as you read about an intriguing fragrance on a blog, you head to their website and they either won't ship to your country or the charges are more than the cost of the perfume. Now I realize that has alot to do with regulations out of a perfumer's control, but where there is a will there is usually a way. If you are a regular reader of ÇaFleureBon, one of the most memorable perfume reviews of the past two months was The Silver Fox's (who lives in the U.K.) post on Papillon Perfumery. USA readers were intrigued, but the British brand which debuted on Midsummer Day June 24, 2014 wasn't available in the States. That has changed; instead of "The British are Coming" … "The British are Here". Ann Onosku, the owner of Cleveland, Ohio's Indigo Perfumery, has been championing Liz Moores, the perfumer behind Papillon for over a year when Liz was still formulating our fragrances. The two women became friends-in-fragrance and Liz Moores chose Indigo Perfumery as the exclusive USA stockist of Papillon Perfumery.
Ann Onusko, owner of Indigo Perfumery in Cleveland
Ann Onosku told me, "I first discovered Liz Moores and Papillon Perfumery in the spring of 2013. The very thought that one woman had the intense desire to not only teach herself the intricacies of creating perfume, but to follow through and produce three individually beautiful perfumes amazed me. Once I smelled them, I knew I had to add Papillon to Indigo’s worldwide collection of artisanal fragrances. Her debut line is an intoxicating triumph of balance, discipline and olfactory delight. We are very proud to be the exclusive US stockist".
Liz Moores Founder and Perfumer of Papillon Artisan Perfumes which is based in the UK
Liz Moores was equally enthusiastic about crossing the pond to Cleveland. She wrote, “I chose Indigo primarily because Ann and I had been communicating long before the launch. She showed great enthusiasm for the brand as it was emerging and it felt very much like she was championing us all the way. As Papillon is truly artisan in every sense of the word we like to work closely with our stockists to build a solid business relationship and also a friendship. We had all of this from Ann and more. The way Ann supports small niche brands is very appealing and her love of perfume shines through in the brands she selects to be in her shop. Papillon is looking forward to a long and successful relationship with Ann and Indigo Perfumery".
This is great news for us Yanks who initally grumbled, "why can't we experience Papillon Perfumes and the three new artisanal fragrances so many bloggers are raving about? Why can't we buy Tobacco Rose, Anubis or Angélique"? Stop complaining and start spritzing!
