Ormonde Man by Ormond Jayne Review (Geza Schoen) 2002+ What the Next 007 Would Smell Like Draw

Actor Idris Elba is in the running to become the new 007James Bond (source.com)

Ormonde Jayne London was founded by Linda Pilkington in 2002. In collaboration with perfumer Geza Schoen, the brand became a cult favorite but until last year impossible to find in the USA.  Two of the first fragrances to debut 15 years ago were Ormonde Jayne Woman and Ormonde Man by Ormond Jayne. While one of the newest in the London perfume house’s collection Ormonde Jayne Ambre Royale (Sebastian reviewed this in December 2014) is currently the number one best seller worldwide, Ormonde Man by Ormond Jayne has had a cult following over the years and along with its counterpart Woman,  was the first  to use hemlock in a fragrance and surprisingly, oud. But instead of smelling heavy and dark, Ormonde Man by Ormond Jayne smells sophisticated and classy. To our noses, it smells very British and elegant, as if any guy could spritz it on and suddenly be olfactively transformed, Instead of  wearing sweat pants  he would magically be dressed in a bespoke suit and tie. There has been a lot of speculation about who the next 007 James Bond will be now that Daniel Craig is passing the torch. My money is on Idris Elba, the epitome of British style and sexiness; he would be wearing Ormonde Man by Ormond Jayne which wears close to the skin…perfect for 007.

  • I admire Sebastian expertise and details in describing the scent. I have never tried this House that is why I would love to win a bottle. Thank you for a giveaway!

  • I would like to see Christian Petrovich from Argos be the next James Bond. I would like to win this because this house is very well received in the fragrance community and I would like to try them out. Sebastian always delivers a spot on review and this was no exception. He makes me want to run out and blind buy, if that makes any sense. Thank you for this generous opportunity.

  • Sebastian describes it in such way that says, the man wearing this is a boss. While I’m not the boss yet I do try to project that in the world–so why not have the scent to match. Idris for 007 would an excellent choice.

  • Samuel Roldan says:

Well i dont have any niche fragrance lol this wil be nice to win , i dont really know what ia the smell but im looking forward to having the fragrance blessing and thanks for the opportunity to participate.

  • I love to win the Ormonde fragrance that Sebastian did due to the biggest factor of when HEB mentions the fact it’s pure perfection, refinement , & class! I’ve been wanting a very elegant fragrance for quite a while now… I think the new James Bond should stay Daniel Craig, if not him I would say it should be Daniel Craig, he has the finesse, well-put wardrobe, & unique fighting style to challenge any adversary.

  • Tom Schroeder says:

I like Sebastian’s description of Ormonde Jayne Man as a classy fragrance, yet one that could be worn in the office as well as formally. Having a decant, I completely agree, and would love to have a full bottle. It is to me a classy timeless and sophisticated scent. I greatly enjoy wearing it, and would like to sample more fragrances from the house. As far as the next Bond, I fully agree with Idris Elba. He would crush the role as a modern Bond. –San Jose, California, USA

  • john lowery says:

While watch Sebastian’s review I was sniffing a sample of Ormonde Man. He is spot on. It smells like the epitome of elegances and class. Idris Elba should become the next Bond. He smolders with sensuality and sophisticated British class. I’d love to have Ormonde Man, since so much of my fragrance wardrobe lacks subtle perfumes.

  • Sebastian always showcases fragrances that aren’t as talked about on other YouTube channels. I’d love to own a bottle of this juice!

  • Thanks for another giveaway. This fragrance just seems really well
Most have been talking about it in a good way. Still haven’t got a chance to try out out so it’ll be nice to own a bottle. Always enjoy Sebastian’s reviews. From California

  • I enjoy how Sebastian breaks down fragrances, explaining notes, and describing how the fragrance smells. My favorite Ormonde Jayne is Black Gold. I would like to win a bottle of Ormonde Man by Ormonde Jayne because I like chypres. Hello from Wisconsin.

  • I’m looking for a suit and tie scent. Sebastian described this as a close scent with out the strong projection, sometimes less is more and this is what the scent sounds like. I really have more summer scents and looking to add a sophisticated scent.

I think the next Bond should be Gerard Butler. I think he’s underrated and has the swag to pull it off. Thanks from the USA

  • Gregory Duncan says:

Sebastian always gives appropriate scenarios to wear certain fragrances. It’s helpful for those looking for a specific perfume. I think Benedict Cumberbatch(spelling??) would make a great Bond.

  • I have a sample of this one and Sebastian is spot on with his description. I have worn this to the office and it really is such an elegant scent. I would say that you feel like it becomes a part of you rather than feeling like you’re wearing something, if that makes sense. I would love to win a bottle of this one since my sample is just about to run out! Idris would make a great Bond, but I think James Norton or Tom Hardy would be great picks too.

  • James Sherwood says:

Hi, I try to catch most of Sebastion’s reviews. I am a registered subscriber of his Feeling Good Smelling Great Channel. I am also a registered subscriber here at Carfleurebon. I use a different email address for his channel. I hope I still qualify for a chance to win.. My favorite Ormonde Jane is Montabaco Parfum. This review was short and sweet. I liked it . I think the next James Bond will be The Brooding Irishman Aidan Turner. Thanks for the chance to win a real nice fragrance. Jim in Md.

  • As always, Sebastian puts out great reviews that are concise and yet speaks volumes. I don’t believe I’ve tried any fragrances that exude class quite like the early formulations for Polo Green. I suppose an early James Bond actor would easily pull that one off in the casinos of Monte Carlo. As for the new Bond, Idris Elba would be a perfect choice, and this fragrance sounds like something he would wear. Cheers from Connecticut.

  • I am new to the fragrance world and am on a mission to smell and collect different and unique fragrances would love to sample some of your houses scents.

  • Would love to try this creation formulated more on the masculine side. Like it was deemed classy in the review. My favorite OJ is Orris Noir. US

  • I’ve already smelled this before and I love it. I was quite surprised when he described OM exactly as I had to my friend. I like that he’s honest and very accurate. Good job!

  • I think Sebastian’s one of the best fragrance reviewers, and this video was another great one. Ive never tried an Ormonde Jayne fragrance, so it would be great to win this. The notes make it seem like something id like. The next Bond should be Elba or Tom Hardy in my opinion.

  • I enjoy watching Sebastian’s fragrance reviews because he is knowledgeable and has many different fragrances that he likes. I would like to win a full bottle of the Ormonde Jayne as well. Thanks

  • I always enjoy Sebastians reviews. He always goes in depth about a fragrance and leaves no stone unturned. I’ve never tried an Ormonde Jayne Cologne and I would like to win because I don’t own any niche fragrances in my collection. I would like to see Tom Hardy as the next Bond. Thank you!!

  • Antonio D'Elia says:

Sebastian’s reviews always makes me order a sample! I’m excited to try
Ormonde Man. Since meeting you Sebastian, my wallet has not been the same 🙂 Jack Huston gets my cote to be the next James Bond!

  • fazalcheema says:

I cannot believe Ormonde Jayne Man has been out for such a long time because it does not feel like so. Sebastian says it is sophisticated and woody and ideal for formal occasions. It is not heady and notes are in ideal sync with each other. My favorite Ormonde Jaybe perfume is Vanille d’Iris. I am in US.

  • Guy-adler Dorelien says:

I admire how Sebastian always goes into depth with his reviews, and how he has a large collection. I have never smelled this line before, and I would love to get my nose on it. As for James Bond, I honestly agree on Idris Elba. He is the epitome of class and would be great new face to the character.

  • Next James Bond?..Richard Madden. My favorite Ormonde Jayne so far is Black Gold. I have tries a sample of Ormonde Man and would love to win a full bottle. Sebastian does a nice job categorizing fragrances and giving a good impression of how it will smell.

  • The is on my to buy list. God I hope I win this. Great review Sebastian Idris Elba gets my vote

  • lordkelwynne says:

Sebastian’s reviews have led me to many fantastic scents and now this one. An opener of juniper with a dry down of wood notes is right on the money for my tastes. I have yet to wear anything by Ormonde Jayne as it is largely unavailable for me to try. I’d proudly sport this number. I am in the US in Pennsylvania.

  • A very British elegant and classy offering indeed! A refined heart of precious agarwood and black hemlock spiced up with juniper berry and pink pepper… Great review from Sebastian as always! Ormonde Man a masculine men’s fragrance sound like a winner for formal event. James Bond… Ya, I think he should be able to pull this scent off! As far a the next 007… HMMMM, Need to be someone iconic… GQ says Luke Evens is the readers choice but I have always liked the acting of Damian Lewis… I’m not British so who knows… THANK YOU for this draw and I do live in the US.

  • Frank Gambina says:

What I enjoyed about Sebastian’s review is how he mentioned that in the heart of Ormonde man there’s a note of black hemlock which I thought was intriguing. Out of the many fragrances I’ve studied online which are in the hundreds I haven’t come across one with this note. My favorite Ormonde Jayne is Ormonde man and another one I’d like to sample is isfarkand. I’d like to win a bottle so I can proudly display it’s beautiful presentation in front of my few designer bottles as well as use it for those special occasions. Idris Elba should be nominated next 007 especially after his role in Dark Tower. He showed some serious gun slinging skills. Thanks for the opportunity and God bless.

  • Loved the review especially when he mentioned how classy the Fragrance is. Would love to try this fragrance with a suit and tie. Unfortunately, i have not tried any OJ fragrances. I would love to see either Idris or Luke Evans pick up the mantle of James Bond. And I’m in New York.

  • Slaydabomzi35 says:

I loved Sebastians review for the intricate details he always provides when giving note breakdowns on the fragrances. You can almost smell it through the screen as he describes it in depth.I have never owned an Ormonde Jayne fragrance before, but I keep hearing that ormonde man is the epitome of a masculine scent so I would love to get my nose on it.
Also,Tom Hiddleston should be the next Bond.

  • I always love Sebastian’s specificity regarding notes. I have Tolu which I like very much, but other than that I really haven’t tried any of the others. As to whom should be the new Bond, I have no idea as to who are the contenders. Certainly Idris Elba would be right up there, but I’m sure that there would be others. I’d love to win this and I would so enjoy being able to gift this to my son. Thanks for the draw. I’m in the USA

  • Gabriel Garcia says:

Sounds delicious, I hope I can find it at saks at some point.
Sebastian is a great resource for great fragance.
    Thanks

  • BostonScentGuy says:

I thought it was interesting how Sebastian associated this with crisp dressing and fanciness, as it makes me think of the outdoors mostly, so it’s interesting to think of it in that way. I do appreciate that he says it is restrained and balanced…maybe that’s why it feels kind of fancy. I do agree that it “screams class.” I think Idris should be the next Bond for sure…he is the sexiest Brit I can think of currently and his work on Luther feels Bond-ish at times. I love OJ and wish her scents were closer to me! I like Woman, Man, and Orris Noir, as they all feel similar. I also love Ta’if, Tiare (which feels like a contemporary Cristalle), and Tolu. OJ’s green scents are some of the only scents with Iso-E-Super heavily added that I like! Thanks so much for the draw–I’m in the US.

  • doowtnehpets says:

I enjoyed Sebastian’s description. Note breakdown sounded a little by the numbers, but he made it sound good. Never tried any Ormonde fragrances. I’d like to try it just cause of how great he made it sound.

  • This sounds like a wonderful scent. I definitely trust Sebastian’s taste in fragrances. Daniel Craig has been a great Bond, but I think Idris Alba will certainly be able to pull it off. Thanks for the opportunity. I’m in Idaho, USA.

  • I loved this review. I bought OJ woman for myself as one of the first few niche scents when I got into perfume. When I had my first Christmas with my (now) fiancé, I bought him a grouping of perfume samples. Nothing like trying to create a fellow addict. He got into it and one of his favorites from that group was Ormonde Man. He’s has kept the decant bottle to remind me 😉

I agree with Sebastian that the notes are blended just perfectly and that it can be worn with a suit or a tux. We are getting married in October and I think it may be great for that too.

Oh and love the idea of Idris for James Bond. 🙂

    Thanks!

  • I really enjoyed Sebastian’s review…so simple and attractive!!!
I have never tested OJ perfumes and wish sooo much to tested all Geza’s creations for OJ. So it is good chance for me.
Maybe Joshua Lee «Josh» Holloway will be able to be new James Bond.
    US

  • From the few that I tried, Ormonde Man is my favorite from the house so would really love to win the giveaway. And Seb’s review further reinforced my thoughts of the quality of Ormonde Man and made me want it even more. Thanks, Seb & Cafleurebon!

  • codylwoodward says:

Sebastian’s YouTube reviews are always spot on! I don’t have a favorite Ormonde Jayne but would love to win this bottle to have a favorite! It sounds like masculine class! I’d love to try and own it. The next James Bond
    should be Tom Hiddleston. USA

  • I like notes in this fragrance and I like the fact that this fragrance can be worn for special occasions but can be worn and you won’t be noticed by a mile away. I would to own this because it would be something I would enjoy wearing. Idris Elba would be a great fit for the 007 part. He has the personality and swag for the part

  • Lindsey Pope says:

This is a great review of Ormonde Man which I agree is very classy and as the editor notes perfect for bond 007 but I think Hiddkeston will get Bond because Idris might be too old

  • So beautiful review, dear Sebastian. I liked it very much. He described Ormonde Jane Ormonde Man with big excitement, and mostly used word were “perfection”, “perfectly blended”, “classy”!!! It is good, that this great perfume has british chic and as Sebastian said could be wear in all occasions” formal events, meetings and in office.
So I am excited and want to test this perfume, all the more so I am not familiar with Ormonde Jane perfumes.
I am agree, that Idris Elba would be a great fit for the 007.
    USA

  • I get a more feral, untamed Nature sense from the exquisite Ormonde Jayne Man than Sebastian, but isn’t that variety of experience part of why perfume is so great? The man I see wearing it is a Wizard of the Woods.

Ormonde Jayne Woman is breathtaking and truly deserving of its place among modern masterpieces, and her translation to OJ Man was done better than most masculinizations. Having gone through my 2ml sample, I desire more.

I’ve seen Gillian Anderson’s name floated for James Bond, what a way to kick some new life into an outdated franchise!

  • Great review. The best part is that Sebastian and I are in total agreement—this is a scent that exudes class, sophistication, and discretion.

My favorite Ormonde Jayne is, well, Ormonde Man. I got a sample of it recently and used it up in about three days. I couldn’t get enough. And neither could my girlfriend—when she got close, she just lit up. It immediately went to the top of my very long to-buy list!

The next James Bond? That’s easy—Christian Bale. Or, if they go with a woman—Charlize Theron. She was an amazing spy assassin in Atomic Blonde.

    I live in the US.

  • Elizabeth T. says:

Great review! I have heard this one mentioned many times over the years, and I LOVE OJ Woman, so I’m surprised I haven’t had a chance to sniff it yet… well, I guess not that surprised given it’s availability up until now in the US, but still. I love the hemlock in OJ Woman, and would love to smell the masculine version of it. In today’s counters stocked with colognes, it’s hard to find one that smells truly classy. For this reason most of all I’d love to smell it. Thanks for the review. I’m in the USA.

  • Love this review! My favorite part is Sebastian describing it as the best classy and refined scent. I have never tried Ormonde Jeyne so have no favorite. I would love to win this bottle. The new James Bond should be Idris Alba. I’m in the USA.

  • Sebastian strikes again, one thing that I’ve come to realize with Sebastian that I come to love about his reviews, this one being no exception, is that he takes his time with his videos but without much silence. It a precise approach with Zero filler. I would love to win OJ man because the note of Black Hemlock really intrigues me the way Sebastian describes it. I personally think the best actor to be 007 would be Tom Hiddelston (Loki) He had that British Charm with a cool personality to back it up. USA

  • Refinement and class, those two words summarize the review. OJ Man is that and more. I think it is by now a classic.
As for the next Bond i think is going to be Tom Hiddleston..
    I’m in the US. Thanks.

  • Dhruba Dasgupta says:

I definitely didn’t know geza shoen was the perfumer so that was cool to learn. I’ve heard of montabaco and taif rose and how those are good but wish I knew more. Ultimately though I’d like this fragrance to wear to upscale occasions, especially in the spring summer! Idk about the next bond though. Never have been a huge fan.

  • Sebastian describes a fragrance so well, you can practically smell it in the air as you read about it. British class – I love it. I have sampled Ormande Man and Isfarkand in the past and have enjoyed them both. I would like to add this bottle to my collection. My pick for the next James Bond would be
    Tom Hiddleston.

  • striker5555 says:

It is always a joy to see Sebastian review fragrance. He was particularly descriptive and truly excited about the fragrance. I think Hugh Jackman would be awesome as 007.

  • I love how Sebastian introduces and describes the fragrance with such enthusiasm. He gives just the right amount of info and detail to have your interest piqued. I am not familiar with this house. It sounds fabulous and I would love to win a bottle.

  • This one sounds great.Sebastian is a great reviewer-bought like 10 fragrances because of him.I own Sensual Love – it was a gift, but i’ve never smelled the other frags from the brand.Winston Virginia

  • I always enjoy Sebastian’s reviews. He makes me want to buy it!
I don’t own anything by Ormond nor have I ever sampled any of the scents. This one sounds so uplifting and fresh.
I think Ryan Gosling would be a different take on a James Bond character!
I live in the U.S. (Pennsylvania)

  • I do follow Sebastian as a reviewer for a long-long time – since his old chanel Man Loves Cologhne .Sophisticated and classy, and a good business scent” – count me in.I do own Tolu by the brand, but not the version you can get in US , but pure parfum one called Tolu Made to Measure-bought it in UK.Unfortunately us customers for whatever reason can NOT get pure OJ pure parfums. To me this is a big mistake.
    Virginia USA

  • Sebastian as always has the best scent reviews on YouTube, best scent descriptions I know on the net. Unfortunately I haven’t favourite Ormonde Jayne’s scent, because I smelled only a few samples in the shop from this brand, and I’d love to know more about. I think that Tom Hardy can be next James Bond. I have an address in Huston, TX

  • I’m a big fan of Ormonde Jayne perfumes. I really haven’t come across any that I don’t like. I would love to see how this one is on my hubby. I’ve always enjoyed Daniel Craig as 007. Perhaps Jason Statham would like to take a crack at the role, he’s got the moves for sure!
    I’m in US and registered.

  • doveskylark says:

I am on something of a British kick these days (literature, TV, travel plans) so this fragrance would be so appropriate. I would like something refined and elegant as a change from my beast mode fragrances.
I have never tried anything from this house.
I really do hope Idris Elba will be the next Bond. James Norton would be my other choice.
    I live in the USA.

  • Thanks for the review and draw! I love OJ Woman, it feels like it resonates with my soul.

Often, the masculine counterparts work as well or better on me (see Amouage) so I was already quite interested. The coriander/cardamon/hemlock thing sounds very similar to Woman but maybe arranged differently? I am curious to see how similar components build something else.

Chiwetel Ejiofor would be my pick for Bond, but I have never been a Bond girl. Certainly would not object to Elba!
