“A year ago I started studying mind control, positive thinking, and energy of the universe….and decided to launch a fragrance full of energy, positive thinking, and good vibes!” –Daniel Josier

Daniel Josier is a perfumer of Spanish descent and the nose behind his eponymous brand Daniel Josier.  His perfumes are under the radar, but to perfume aficionados his collection is highly prized. Daniel is very well known in  Barcelona, Spain where advertisements for his fragrances can be seen all across the city.

             Jean-Claude-Ellena

Jean Claude Ellena

Daniel’s education as a perfumer is one filled with many years of experience and the very fortunate opportunity to work under and be mentored by one of the greatest perfumers of modern times –Jean Claude Ellena. After finishing his perfume studies at ISPICA in 1997,  Daniel began working at Haarman & Reimer in Grasse, France, and  in 1998 master perfumer Jean Claude Ellena became his director and mentor for the next six years. After the merger between H&R and Dragoco which became Symrise.  M Ellena went to Hermes and Daniel went on to work at Expressions Parfumees, until he decided to be an independent perfume and launch his own line. Interestingly, Daniel’s composed  the first prototype of Tom Ford’s Tuscan Leather; Mr. Ford went in a different direction.  Daniel’s version,a smooth leather vs the distressed  and  Cuero De La Toscana, is a topseller in his own collection.

Daniel Josier with his wife Josune

Josune is Daniel’s newest creation and one that he holds very close to his heart as it is named after his wife of 24 years. When I asked why he decided to name the fragrance after his wife he explained, “Initially the perfume was to be called ‘Positive Thinking’…but this energetic scent was also charged with love. So I decided to rename it and give it the name of the person who fills me with energy, positivity, good vibes, and love.

Josune the fragrance allows me to close my eyes and vicariously experience Daniel’s relationship with his wife upon first spritz. From the moment my nose was introduced to the fresh bergamot and the sensual rose and jasmine bouquet my mind pictured a woman of positive light, one whose smile radiates a room, and whose touch is gentle, genuine, and always full of passion. As the fragrance dries down the earthy patchouli and comforting sandal wood sing to your heart the same way a first encounter with an exquisitely beautiful woman does; in the sense that obvious physical attraction is there, and then through conversation you find out that her beauty goes far beneath the surface and is anchored deep within her spirit where she displays a down to earth personality, a heart to lift others up, and a profound love for anything that makes the mind think, wonder, and imagine. The tail end of this romantic symphony is layered in warmth, energy, and jubilation as the sweet praline note takes form and intertwines with the warmth and delicacy of vanilla. The clean and sensual musk notes add longevity and truly make the fragrance long lasting and unforgettable.

Ode to Josune by The Nosey Artist

Closer…closer…I always want you closer,

24 astonishing years and you never cease to amaze me

I love you like a friend, I honor you like a queen,

And more than just my wife you are a symbol of hope for me-like a rose with unscathed petals that grew from a crack in the concrete

Your unconditional love is as rare and exotic as the finest of jasmine oils and worth more than the price of ten kilos

In a world full of chaos you are an infinite source of positive energy,

I have no need for meditation for you are my Zen moment and today I’ve had the honor of you becoming my muse

They say that scent is one of the most powerful senses that are linked to memory and I believe that to be true,

For when I close my eyes and think of you I am instantly enthralled with the delightful smell of your vanilla skin

Your natural aroma is as warm as the morning smile you greet me with,

And as sweet as the praline pies you bake for me

I couldn’t imagine what life would be like without you,

As a matter of fact I don’t even deem it possible for me to live without your presence

You’re a blessing to me and any other that you happen to connect with,

And like the prefect skin scent you make your way into the hearts of others without flamboyance or an over dose of projection

And this is precisely why I decided to bottle up the essence of your existence and share it with the world

When they feel your warm touch and embrace your uplifting aroma I want them to repeat the same words that my heart continuously sings out to you,

“Closer…closer…I always want you closer”

Josune is romance in a bottle. I experienced  8 + hours longevity but the sillage is intimate,  which is fitting for a fragrance meant to honor David’s wife, his beloved and  his studies in mediation and positive energy Josune to be delightful, uplifting, comforting, and very passionate all the same time.  Josune is a fragrance meant to be shared and would work well on both men and women with lean towards the ladies,  as the praline and rose add a touch of femininity.

  • I love the fact that his perfume reflects his love for his wife Josune. He has bottled his love of her. How beautiful is that? Its great to hear about Daniel’s work and the chance to hear about his scents. If i was lucky enough to win i would like to receive a sampler or indeed a bottle of Josune. Thanks for the draw – i am in the UK.

  • Thank you for letting us know about this perfume and indeed about the whole line – I’ve never heard of it and after the review and perusing the website, I want to smell them all! In spite of that, I think I’d be absolutely wowed by Ambrec Tabac, so that would be my choice. In the US. Thanks for the draw!

  • Very romantic to make a perfume with your wife’s name as the name. Very. I didn’t know about this line. Cafleurebon comes through again.
I would LOVE to win Le Musk. 🙂 Nice to have you here Daniel. US

  • First of all, I have to say I am very please to hear about the line. I loved the poem and the profile on Daniel’s experience and work so far. The picture painted of Josune (the fragrance) by the Nosey Artist (“delightful, uplifting, comforting, and very passionate “) is very appealing.

I would love to experience Josune, but I think I would choose Golden Vetiver as my introduction to the line since it lines up better with my tastes – Orquidea Negra is also on the shortlist!

Daniel, bienvenido! Me encantó el poema. En especial los toques un tanto cómicos como el verso que menciona los diez kilos de jazmín. Enhorabuena.

I am in the US. Thanks so much for the draw!

First of all, welcome Daniel to Cafleurebon. Reading this review that Daniel has dedicated latest fragrance Josune to his wife because she is the source of so many positive feelings in his life instantly reminded me of Roudnitska who also made a fragrance for his wife which eventually became part of Malle line…Even in the poem, Daniel is telling his wife how she is basically the sum of everything beautiful and positive in his life.

Thanks a lot for the draw. I have a feeling Daniel’s style has some resemblance to Ellena’s style. My choice for the draw will be Cuero de la Toscana. I am in the US.

  • Welcome to cafleurebon, Daniel! I love the deeply personal narrative woven into this fragrance, and that The Nosey Artist was able to pick up on all the nuances. It’s such a romantic story and I can’t help but be swept off my feet by it! Naturally, my choice would have to be Josune (or Golden Tuberose as back-up). I’m in Canada.

  • I just purchased Bois de Farine by Jean Claude Ellena this weekend, so I’m sure Daniel’s fragrances are fabulous having worked with Jean Claude. The poem to his wife is beautiful, what a lucky lady. My first choice would be the one to honor his wife, but if not it would be the Vanilla et Coco. I shall use mind control, positive thinking and the universe to win this fabulous prize. Thanks! I live in the US

  • Welcome, welcome, NA! So nice to have new friends here at CaFleureBon. Great article, I love that Josune illustrates a woman of positive light. And to hear Josier’s background. I’d love to win Orquidea Negra… I’m in the USA. Thank you for the lovely draw!

  • Mrs. MacDonald says:

The romanticism appeals to me…the fact that she radiates from the inside out is just beautiful and inspirational! i think though for me this would be a little too femme, so my choice would be Ambrec Tabac. Thanks for including me, and i live in Canada…you guys at Cafleurebon are very awesome!

  • BostonScentGuy says:

I love discovering new lines that are well-established in others countries. Looks like an eclectic assortment, too! As for the review…as an English teacher I love when people respond to things in poetry! I love how the various elements of the scent are broken down into strong images…praline pies and vanilla skin makes me feel warm all over! Welcome to Cafleurebon! If I were to wine the draw I’d go for Ambrec Tabac. I’m in the US, and thanks for holding this draw.

  • A big welcome hug to NA. 😀
    Great article.
Josune to me is love and romance in a bottle, it captured Daniel’s relationship and the moment with his wife.
I would like to try the sampler set of 12.
I’m in Malaysia. Thank you for the draw. 🙂

  • I’m very curious about this brand mostly for Daniel collaboration with Jean Claude Ellena. The fragrance that attempt me more from is line is ‘Le Musc’. I’m from Italy, thanks 🙂 !

  • marcopietro says:

Welcome Daniel and The Nosey Artist to CaFleureBon! It’s always a pleasure to meet interesting and creative people that have something to say in the world of perfumery…and something to say about love. Your ode to Josune is very personal, intimate and revealing of a strong and deep connection, thanks for having shared with us. I am a vetiver lover and inevitably my choice is Golden Vetiver.
    I live in Italy.
    Thanks!

  • Always a delicate thing to see something created out of a great love for your special other! If it’s a perfume, then is even better! I liked the poem! It was simple, but it caught the essential! Straight on point! Who needs big words when love is simple and beautiful? The fragrance sounds really interesting with the combination of jasmine, patchouli, sandalwood, praline and musk. I think it can be hard to restrain the strong notes, but I am sure Daniel did a great job there and in the end it resulted a nice and pure fragrance, just like the idea of love.

I would like to win Golden Tuberose as tuberose is my weakness in every fragrance. I live in EU. Thanks for the draw!

  • It’s so wonderful that Daniel’s newest creation was made with love and positive thinking.
Ambrec Tabac sounds gorgeous! I live in the U.S.

Daniel, welcome to Cafleurebon! Thanks for the generous draw!

  • Very beautiful review! I really enjoyed to read this article. I suppose that those perfumes are all fabulous. If I would as lucky to win, my choice would be Josune or Vanilla et Coco. Because I think that these two are incredible amazing. I think I would chose Josune. Thank you for this amazing draw! I live in Europe.

  • Hey Daniel, nice job way to go! Great story. I haven’t tried any of your creations as of yet, so after reading I’d be glad to win the Cuero dela Toscana if I’m chosen. USA

  • I am often drawn to fragrances that are created out of love for a person. They seem so personal and it’s an honor to be able to share in wearing something that is made from such strong emotions. Loved learning about this new perfume and the poem is beautiful. What a wonderful love he has for his wife. Uplifting, positive, so many beautiful thoughts. I would love to sample all of Daniel’s creations. I’m registered and in the US.

  • bunchofpants says:

“The tail end of this romantic symphony is layered in warmth, energy, and jubilation …” I need this! It’s so lovely that he named a positive and uplifting fragrance after his wife. Were I to win, I would definitely want to try Josune! And welcome, Nosey Artist! I’m in USA.

  • I am touched that he chose to name this perfume after his wife. It sounds like a beautiful veil of scent. I’m impressed with the Nosey Artist’s Ode, and beautiful description of this perfume. So exciting to discover all these new perfumes out there in the world. I’m in the USA

  • Dear Daniel welcome !!!!
I loved the idea of giving his wife’s name Josune to this perfume creation in order to honour the love, the positive feelings and energy that his beloved wife brings into his life. This is so romantic and I am touched. I also loved the poem and the words naming his wife friend and muse for life.
I also loved the notes especially rose, musk, and praline since I am a gourmand notes lover.
I am a registered reader living in EU and I thank you both for the review and draw. In case I win I would love to experience the sampler set in order to fully experience and understand Daniels work.

  • girasole638 says:

Thanks for the draw and welcome to The Nosey Artist! I sometimes think of perfumes as olfactive poetry so it’s appropriate that The Nosey Artist chose to compose an ode as part of his review of Daniel’s perfume – how creative! It’s a tough decision, but I think the fragrance I would most like to sample is Ambrec Tabac (because I always crave warming scents at this time of year), or Josune because this review makes the rose and praline combination sound so lovely! I’m in the US.

  • Welcome, The Nosey Artist! You’re in the company of wonderful writers here. This article is captivating. I already love your writing style because I read some of your reviews on Instagram. I have not tried Daniel Josier’s perfumes. I read about the perfumer and explored the website some time ago. The poem is comprehensive. It is on positive thinking, scents, love and friendship.
The intimate sillage of Josune is a reflection of the commitment and unique relationship. I see myself wearing Ambrec Tabac, but I imagine my wife wearing Josune. I am in the EU, Croatia. Thank you.

  • I love how the fragrance is dedicated to his wife. It sounds absolutely beautiful and I know Daniel put 110% into it. I have not tried anything from this line, but I would love to win Interdit Absente! I’m in Canada and thank you so much for the draw!

  • Welcome! I like the idea to name a fragrance after your loved one. However I’d be most curious about Golden Vetiver. The list of notes sounds just mouthwatering. I’m in the EU, thank you for the draw.

  • The Nosey Artist, welcome! The definition of perfumery as liquid poetry is the greatest description I’ve read here!!!!!!
The poem is amazing and I suppose that Josune as a pretty romantic scent deserves it to the last drop! A floral-woody-musk almost always works for me, and I cannot help feeling attracted to this one in particular. Porbably because of the poem, but you can’t go wrong with jasmine-rose-sandalwood-musk-vanilla combo, can you?
If I win, I would like to get the sampler set of all 12 fragrances.
    Thank you for the chance!
    I am in Bulgaria (EU).

  • Wonderful review! I really enjoyed to read this article. I have much respect to Daniel Josier mainly because he work with my favorite nose that is Jean Claude Ellena. I suppose that Daniel Josier fragrances are fabulous and Josume seems to be the perfect scent of his collection, a fragrance called with the same name of his wife is a big responsibility. If I would as lucky to win, my choice would be Ambre Tabac because I love amber and tabac notes. Beautiful poem that fits perfect with this article. I really love this part ‘enjoy perfume as liquid poetry’ this is why I love perfume. Thank you for this amazing draw!
    I live in the US.

  • Welcome to CFB! What an amazing review on this gem of a fragrance. I love the story behind it and it’s filled with love and affection. It’s the perfect romantic scent.
If I were to win, I would love the chance to have Interdit Absente. It has been on my wishlist for a while.
    I’m a Canadian reader.

  • Josune sounds like a love story in a bottle. Rose and jasmine together in a scent always melt my heart like seeing a couple who are truly in love.

Welcome and thank you to the Nosey Artist for the review and poem. It was delightful to read. I would love to try Josune. Thank you for the draw. I am in the US.

  • Yay I am not too late. I don’t know this line at all but I am so impressed with Daniel Josier. Imagine studying with the great Jean Claude Ellena. The Nosey Artist ‘s poem was amazing and I really felt I was Daniel writing about his wife. I would love to try Josune but also Ambrec Tabac.. USA

  • Welcome to The Nosey Artist! I enjoyed his review of this “romance in a bottle” Josune and his liquid poetry. I would like to win the sampler of 12 and I live in the US.

  • I would like to welcome you The Nosey Artist! Great read on this lovely fragrance. It was quite touching to hear about Josune. It sounds like a masterpiece in a bottle. Interdit Absente would be my choice. Good luck on the future Daniel! I know you’ll continue to make incredible fragrances. I’m international (Toronto).

  • Iuno Feronia says:

Very romantic Approach. Sounds wonderful, but all perfumes from Daniel Josier do. interdit Absente would be my favourite – I live in the EU.
